This was by far the quickest, easiest, and best overall smog experience that I've ever had! I showed up around 9am and the owner greeted me and got straight to work to get me out of there! He is definitely a "smog wizard", super cool, and even was able to point out that my car had a recall that I knew nothing about! Overall, this was a great experience for someone like me who usually hates when my dmv renewal says that I have to find time in my day to take my car in to get smogged! I don't even know how to begin to explain my frustration with this place. I had a list of things to do to my car today: get a smog check, get a tuneup (my check engine light had just came on not 1 week ago), get an oil change... My mistake was taking my car to THIS smog place first. ANY other smog place would have seen my "check engine" light and advise me that the smog test would automatically fail due to the check engine light being on. Because this worker is DISHONEST and GREEDY, he went ahead and smog tested my car, obviously knowing I would not pass because of the check engine light. Do not bull me and say you didn't see it. You are trained in this field and should know better. I have never failed a smog test and I had no idea a check engine light caused an automatic fail. Now, no one will touch my car. It is a VW, so it is extremely hard to find people who know what they are doing, much less after it has already not cleared a smog test. SHAME ON YOU GUYS FOR BEING DISHONEST. If you told me to get the engine light fixed first, I would have graciously came back to you for business. But since you make your money by taking advantage of individuals, I will never do business with you again and I will most definitely spread the word. If I can make a complaint against you to the state, I will. That is what I am doing next. This is my warning to everyone else who goes to you for help, DONT. These people will take your money, leave you with no direction, and expect you to pay again to get it rechecked (other places will often give you a free retest). read more

This review is just for people with "specialty" vehicles so you don't waste your time. Otherwise, it seems like this place does fine. I took my 1979 VW bus to Smog Wizard after reading their website that claimed "Yes we do any type of inspection!" and "Passenger Cars, Hybrids, SUV, Minivan, Diesels, Trucks, or Heavy Duty Trucks, and Motorhomes We literally do it all." I would have been in and out the door in about 15 minutes, but as I was paying for the super quick smog & certificate the owner and I got into a conversation prompted by my bumper sticker ("viva la agricultura organica"), which he'd quickly looked at and thought said something about Argentina. It turns out I've been to Argentina, and he'd like to go, so we chatted a bit about that before I got on my way. I took my car in for a smog check and filled out the paperwork. About five minutes after me some guy comes in and tells the clerk that he is in a real hurry and will tip the guy a 20 if his car is finished in 30 mins. The clerk jumped his car in front of the two of us waiting in the shop. When i asked for my keys back they were reluctant to give them to me. I took them and told the clerk that my time was also valuable and left. The shop called me to say that it was really the case that the other car could be done more quickly than mine. But by then I was at another shop on 16th that was $15 cheaper and saw me right away. Lesson to smog wizard... you don't know who your clients are. I know how valuable my time is and won't be trumped by a jack a$$ with a $20. read more

Smog isn't the most exciting thing to get done which is why speed, accuracy, and customer service are key, in my opinion. This smog shop is amazing based on those aspects~! Fast - Didn't take long and was helped immediately :) Accuracy - Well, I passed and they gave me my sheet and explained any points that I had questions about. Customer Service - Friendly staff! The gentleman who helped me obviously knew a lot about customers and extremely nice. It's definitely different from other smog shops. It would be a very courteous and respectful thing if this business could say, "Just to be sure, has your battery been disconnected recently? If so, you won't pass the smog test because of an OBDII Not Ready error. You may want to wait and do some more driving rather than waste your time and money." That would be great, but why have scruples as a business when you can cheat your customer out of more money? They do not offer free smog retests here, they offer half-price smog retests. My battery was recently disconnected during engine service and I wouldn't have spent the money if I had known. read more

I needed to get my car smog due to moving from out of state. I took my car in this morning. The clerk was very friendly and attentive. He took my car in and ran the test. It took 15 minutes. After he was done, he said my car would be in the DMV system. He suggested I take the paperwork as well because sometimes it doesn't match it. It was great service for a great price. I took a vehicle in to get a smog, and the check light came on when I got there and thought the light was finicky. Being an expert, the Indian guy who said he is the only owner/manager knew the car would fail the smog test but chose not to be honest and take my money anyways. I have gone here before and won't be back. I didn't know any better, but he did. I also spoke to a few people who said they had experienced the same situation in the past, and in good faith, the shop worker (at different businesses) did not "smog" their car and charge them, telling them it wouldn't pass and to get it fixed and bring it back. Very quick and the price seems about standard (unless you're going somewhere else with a coupon.) I think I chose this place because the reviews seemed good and it's not too far from where I live. I'm short on time, and I remember the last time my car was smogged (when I lived in another city) was a disaster and made me horribly late to work. I would recommend this place. I did in fact choose it over places with coupons because I didn't have to go out of my way, and they didn't look busy. And good reviews. The places I did find coupons for didn't have good reviews. Is that worth paying possibly an extra $10-15 for someplace with good reviews? I'm not sure, but my time is limited. I was actually sort of worried my aging car (8 years old, bought in another state with different standards) wasn't going to make it this time. I asked whether there were any trouble areas, and the owner assured me, oh no, in fact, it looks like you take good care of your car. Have you had a tuneup recently? I appreciated that little bit, even if I wasn't entirely sure whether I really do take good care of the old thing -- I just make sure I have it serviced pretty regularly. Do I take good care of it? I don't know, but thanks anyway. :-) Sort of my reaction to being told my hair looks good today, when in fact, I napped on it. read more

When I arrived at Smog Wizard to get a smog check, my car battery happened to die on me for the first time ever when the technician was trying to take it back. Looking under the hood, he noted there was a lot of corrosion around the connections, which likely explained the problem. He tried for about 10 minutes to see if he could get any readings, but the battery continued to die despite a couple of jumps, so instead of running the full test and having it fail, he recommended I go to Autozone up the street for a new battery. I did just that and came back the next day. It was a close call (I had only driven 40-50 miles on the new battery instead of the recommended 70 to produce accurate test results), but the smog check passed, I paid $56 and was on my way. The two technicians I interacted with were very friendly and helpful. I was impressed by their professionalism. I highly recommend Smog Wizard. read more

45. star rating. No appointment necessary which is great for a non planning errand girl like me. I walked right in and within the next hour I had a certified smog check completed and for a good price: about $56 compared to the $65 and up quotes I was getting around my neighborhood. Plus the place had A/C. I mainly gave it a higher rating b/c I overheard the customer service to the woman before me when they told her that her car didn't pass. They tried everything they could and gave her some advice on what she have done to the car. I think they also gave her a discount for the second attempt and offer to waive the fee on something when she came back. Plus they were friendly and helpful to me checking to make sure we were comfortable. Pros: quick for being busy and a place of walk ins. Great price. Cons: none really Verdict: I'll bringing all our cars here for future Smog checks. read more

Nothing like procrastinating until the day something is due!!! My car registration is due TODAY!!! Checked online while at work, did a quick search for smog check and Smog Wizard came up. Oh great and it's only 1.3 miles away from my work location. Easily accessible, lots of parking and when I arrived no one was there. That can be a good thing or a bad thing...no time to think it through, I need to get this car smogged NOW so that I can get my tags after I get off work! The gentleman started right away and within 20 minutes of my walking in the door, he was finished and my car PASSED! The price was about $10 higher than what I normally pay, but I'll pay that for the convenient location and fast service. Not sure if it was just a slow day for Smog Wizard, my lucky day or what....but if This is the kind of service that they give every day, everyone should take their car to Smog Wizard! ;-) read more

I had an hour to kill and needed to get my car smogged. It was a Sunday and I didn't have many options, so I headed on over to Smog Wizard. Since there weren't any customers ahead of me, the service was pretty fast, albeit much more expensive than my usual smog place... about $20 more than I normally pay (hence, the 4 stars instead of 5).
