It's been a few years, but I finally needed a SMOG check before I could get my registration renewed. And every time this happens, I can only vaguely remember the last random place I found to get my vehicle tested, via a Google search. So once again, I used Google, and found this gem. The reviews looked pretty good, so I decided to give it a go. I went in last week, after I got off work at 4 PM. Yes, getting down Folsom Blvd during rush hour traffic did suck ass, but once I got to Smog Express, it was smooth sailing. It wasn't busy inside, and [[HIGHLIGHT]]the gentleman behind the counter helped me right away.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] They charged me around $60 ($65?) For the test, which I felt was pretty reasonable. The test itself maybe took 10-15 minutes, and I was all set and ready to go. The service was quick and friendly, and the prices were reasonable. I couldn't think of one good reason to give this place less than five stars. I wish they were located a little closer to me, but that's an MP (my problem), lol. read more

Perfect! So quick and the service was spectacular! I called to ask if I need to make an appointment and they said no you can just come in

I walked in to smog express & repair on a Thursday afternoon to schedule a diagnostic so that I could register my car that had failed to pass emissions numerous times. A representative scheduled me to return on the following Tuesday. I dropped my car off at 9AM and was advised the diagnostic would be $180 and that I would get a call within 2 hours. At 130 PM I finally get a call back advising me that they could not figure out the issue. The representative stated that the car was not burning fuel efficiently which is why it's not passing emissions, something I already knew. The call lasted 60 seconds and upon arrival the mechanic didn't even bother speaking with me at all and simply wrote a note suggesting I take it to another shop that he recommended. As logic follows, I wouldn't suggest taking a vehicle to another shop recommended by a shop that couldn't be bothered to probe beyond the surface level. I wasted five days banking on a smog repair shop to repair my vehicle that couldn't figure out the issue in 4 1/2 hours. The shop however did the courtesy of not charging me for the diagnostic, which I believe is fair since they did absolutely nothing but use the computer and why I rated it two stars. I was told that this shop had experience with GM vehicles and if anyone could identify the issue I was having it would be this place. Clearly not the reality of the situation. The quality of customer service in my opinion is measured by communicating effectively. I was not provided any detailed report as to what tests, if any were conducted on the vehicle because I wasn't charged for the diagnostic. If you have a simple issue such as an oil change this place may be ok. read more

Juist a word of information for owners of "older" (meaning 1995, OBD-1 equipped vehicles), while this service has excellent ratings and well deserves them, they do NOT service and repair smog systems on older (pre-1996 OBD-1 system) vehicles. Older vehicles with the OBD-1 computers need to be tested on a dyamometer with tail-pipe check and while SMOG EXPRESS & REPAIR does have the necessary equipment, they do NOT work on pre-1996 or so vehicles as a matter of policy. Big disappointment for those of us who have "older" vehicles that are otherwise in excellent repair, but the State of California puts this unnecessary and highly annoying mandate in their CARB statutes in its desire to coerce the public into 1) buying new vehicles and 2) fulfilling the EV policies it feels are desirable.
