I truly like Dr. Gold as my eye doctor, but hate dealing with his staff, and the lab they work with for glasses does incredibly shoddy work. I needed new lenses in my glasses last year, but what I got back was shockingly bad. The lenses on the glasses were rough and uneven, with strands of material coming off. Mind you, I only had them replace the lenses to upgrade my prescription, so I previously had a very nice pair of glasses. They basically ruined them. Even the staff member I was working with admitted they were bad. I had them sent back for repair and they came back in OK shape, however they clearly lack attention to detail as the glasses were dirty and still had the old nose pads on which I had asked them to replace. I had the store replace the nosepads, but given how much I spent on the lens replacement you would think they would at least clean the glasses and replace the nosepads, but no. Never getting glasses there again for sure. Fast forward to today when I tried to order glasses elsewhere (online) and needed something called the PD (pupillary distance) number. Usually this is on the prescription, but not on the one from Dr. Golds office. So I called the office to get it and was told that you have to pay an additional $20 for this since you aren't getting glasses with them. From my previous experience, why in the world would I ever get glasses from them again?!! However, they refused to get it unless I pay them $20 for it, what a scam! I told them this was ridiculous and hung up. There are other ways to get this information thankfully, so I'm not paying $20 for it. Its a shame as I really like Dr. Gold, but he really needs to revise how this practice is run. Another issue is the staff asking for SSN# which no one does anymore due to identity theft issues. They said they needed it to run my insurance, so I reluctantly gave it to them, but made sure they shredded it right afterwords so they wouldn't keep a copy of it. Of course I don't know what they kept in their computer files which worries me, but not much I can do about it. This alone is enough to avoid the practice, but combined with everything else, well, I guess I won't be back unless things significantly improve with the practice. I hope Dr. Gold reads this and considers fixing these issues. read more

Dr. Gold is a GEM! Located in Washington Heights on Broadway and walking distance from home, there's no where else I want to go to get my eyes checked, contacts and eyeglasses. Dr. Gold is so attentive, friendly and knowledgeable. He tells you like it is and gets you the best price on lenses and glasses. The gals working in his office are also excelente and everyone speaks Spanish! Sure sometimes there's a wait but the lobby is comfortable and the Starbucks is down the block, so get a coffee and relax... Dr. Gold is worth the wait! read more

Dr. Gold has been my preferred optometrist for as long as I can remember. He has given me better understanding of my vision and can pinpoint whatever issue you may have. But, today, one of his staff members were very dismissing. They have a really bad policy. Even if you have a prescription and just want to LOOK at frames, you have to come in before 4 pm even though they don't close until 6pm. I came in just to look at some frames at 5pm and there were 3 people standing behind the counter. I was told I had to come back due to their 4pm policy! I will never come back. What kind of a place won't even let you LOOK at frames? Such poor customer service skills...I ended up going down the street to Optica Express a few minutes later and was helped in a matter of seconds in buying a pair of glasses! Dr. Gold is the best! He really cares about his patients. I got two eye examinations (glasses and contacts), he was patient, courteous and provided great advice for smart eye care. I purchased a great pair of glasses in December, it took me hours to choose and I felt supported every step of the way! I just ordered contacts, and since I have to wait he gave me a few free pairs!!! While I was checking in I asked a question and the staff gave me such great information. No place is perfect...LOL...so I had to give 4 stars out of principle. I walked in at 10:08. By 11:35am I was outta there. KEEP IN MIND that I didn't have an appointment and the center is located in a busy, highly visible area in The Heights so there were a lot of clients this morning. I was seen by Dr. Ramirez this time and she was just as wonderful as Dr. Gold but not as talkative (LOL that man can go on for days but he's so sweet). She answered all of my questions patiently. I missed my appointment time but one of the receptionists said that I could stay and wait to be called again . I have to agree about Dr. Gold. He was awesome, took his time during my exam and we talked extensively about options for bifocal contacts for me. He gave me a couple to try and I went away for the summer and said I'd be back in the fall to follow up. Then... Fast forward - 4 calls and 4 office visits, I can't seem to get my prescription or order a couple of boxes of contacts. Certain members of the staff are rude and had the gall to ask me what took me so long to follow up and said they'd charge me again for another Dr. exam. I saw Dr. Gold on one of these visits and he showed no recognition of me and almost gave me a prescription BUT then asked me if I wanted to try another brand of bifocal contacts. This is a lot of hassle just to get my hands on my prescription and I wonder if it's legal to withhold it. They say they can't sell me less than 6 months worth and when I tried to order through 800 contacts.com they refused to give my prescription. read more

I had my first eye exam here & I was very very pleased. First of all, setting up the appointment was a breeze. I called as a new patient, & had an appointment set for the very next day. All the staff were very friendly, especially Dr. Gold!! My wait time was not long at all, & the exam itself was both quick & thorough. I mentioned that I sometimes have dry & itchy eyes & he immediately offered me some drops to try for free. Overall this was a great first experience, & I'm at ease knowing that I have such a fabulous eye doctor so close by! read more

His knowledge and expertise are obvious, but moreover he truly seems to have my best interest at heart. He's definitely someone I feel like I can trust. You can't find a better eye doctor than Dr. Gold. He took his time and made sure I was happy and comfortable with the prescription and contact lenses I received. Its too bad Dr. Gold has the office staff he does, however; I have never before been less impressed by the service I received at the front of the house. I patiently waited for almost an hour to get an answer on my services and reimbursement, but left with the wrong information. The young office manager did not take the time to listen to my question about an eye exam vs. a contact lens exam, continuously left me mid-sentence to go help other customers, and rolled his eyes when I asked him for their provider ID number so I could get reimbursed. read more

I have been coming here once a year since I moved to the neighborhood and have always had the same, pleasant experience. Dr. Gold is a wonderful human as well as an efficient Optometrist. I book on Zoc Doc, after work (which has been difficult with other doctors), and never have to wait long for my appointment. The office staff is helpful and congenial. I get my contacts here (Dr. Gold is kind enough to give me a few pairs to last until mine arrive) because they have some incredible deals (better than online). I love Dr. Gold but his staff is terrible. WORST customer service of anywhere I've ever been so DO NOT GO!!!! I came here two years ago and had an exam. I was trying to decide on contacts but I have severely dry eyes so Dr. Gold was working with me to find the right fit. Like most people I work during the day so I can't do drop in visits and had to wait long period for an appointment. When I went to try a new pair the woman working the glasses counter started yelling at me that I needed to pay for a visit. I had not even seen the doctor I was just trying out contacts before deciding which ones to spend hundreds of dollars on. I explained to her the doctor was having me try different kinds and she rudely yelled that he shouldn't be doing that. Is she the doctor??? I did not order contacts or come back to try more as I was put off. This year I decided to try again. I dropped in on a day off and waited for an exam before deciding to leave and make an appointment as it was super busy because the hours listen online are incorrect. I made the appointment and I confirmed with them the day before. When I arrived the girl at the front desk asked me where my voucher from my union was. I was unaware I needed this as it had been two years since I had been there. She refused to let me see the doctor or call my union. I had taken the morning off of work for this and it was a waste of time. When I asked why no one mentioned this form when I made or confirmed the appointment she said "I don't know." When I told her she should in the future she said "whatever" and rolled her eyes. I will NEVER come back. Dr. Gold is a nice doctor but why hire rude staff who treat customers like they are stupid? The staff should be welcoming. I work in customer service and was horrified by the attitude of the people working here. read more

I've been coming here for years for the simple fact that the services are great. The staff are genuinely kind and so helpful. They make it a quick and fast visit. In addition, they also allow walk-ins and I find that to be awesome because emergencies happen and Dr.Gold is excellent in reassuring that all will be fine; I have gotten many sample eye drops to fix the problem. Every time I go, it's a great and professional experience. Also, Dr. Gold see pediatric and I was very happy to bring my daughter for her very first eye exam. This office is very recommendable. I just started going here earlier in the year but, it feels like I've been a patient for years. Dr. Gold is very funny and knowledgeable as well! He told me things about my vision that previous optometrists never did before. The staff is patient and understanding as well. Sometimes, the place gets way too crowded and the wait is a while but, it's understandable why: everyone wants to be seen here haha. They also take walk ins which is great if you didn't have time to make an actual appointment. You have to wait though but, you're still seen in the end. This place is !!! read more

Office consists of 2 doctors who are both incredibly pleasant, professional, and knowledgable about their profession. I was born with an eye condition that usually throws optometrists off and have poor vision and headaches.
