Boisterous atmosphere with a bohemian vibe. Their version of a frozen strawberry Daiquiri came in a mug w/ a straw and was topped with freeze dried berries. Confusing presentation - but it was really tasty and refreshing. We started with some roasted oysters with brown butter caper sauce. The oysters were small but tender and delicious- the sauce was a nice accompaniment but we were expecting some whole capers which would have brought a nice briny and vinegary burst to complement the butter. We opted for the chicken platter as that what they were famous for. We prefer our chicken on the bone when fried, but their boneless thigh meat that they served us had an incredibly shatter like crust that was truly finger licking good. The charred breast meat was incredibly juicy and tender. My only disappointment was the side of gravy. With all those chicken pieces and bones, the kitchen could do a much better job at creating a deeply rich and decadent sauce. And a naked chicken needs some serious adornment to elevate it. My husband loved the sunchoke hot sauce and dipped just about anything he could in it. Chicken salad was well executed. But come here for fried chicken and oysters, both are delicious. The whole/half chicken come with grilled chicken breast - it's good in its own right but can't hold a candle to the fried chicken thighs which are juicy, extremely crispy and served boneless. Brochus is hands down my favorite place in Savannah. Everything about this restaurant was outstanding, from the food to the drinks to the service. The chicken platter was absolutely incredible--the chicken breast literally melted in my mouth. The biscuits were pure perfection, and the sauce selection took everything to the next level. Between the rich gravy, the spicy sauce, and the honey butter for the biscuits, every bite was better than the last. Dessert was just as memorable. The eggnog crème brûlée was so unique and delicious, and learning that it comes from the owner's grandma's recipe made it even more special. They're located a bit south of downtown (20 min walk from Forsyth Park), so it's not walking distance to a lot of sightseeing, but it's worth the trip! The entrance is off of 40th street through a large fence. There isn't much signage, it looks like Google Maps is taking you to a nondescript building. They take reservations for tables inside, and the place fills up! Walk ins are welcome at the bar and outside on the patio, but again, it gets full quick! If I went with a group, I would definitely order a fried chicken platter -- the platters looked absolutely stunning! I got a fried chicken sandwich, and the chicken was amazing. Moist on the inside and crispy on the outside! The biscuits with honey butter were also a tasty snack. We met family in Savanah and got stuck in a rainstorm. Thankfully Brochu's had plenty of indoor and outdoor covered seating. You order drinks from your server but go up to the window to order food. Most of the small plates are plenty to share for 2 or 3. The rice was the favorite amongst everyone at the table. Chicken sandwich was a second favorite. These 4 stars are hanging heavily on the fact that the kitchen knows what they're doing, and the food and flavor is insanely delicious. We didn't have a reservation, walked in at 5 and was offered bar seating or outside. Being that it's mid June, we chose the bar. Maybe we should have sat outside.. Placed our order for a whole chicken platter, buttered vegetables, pork and beans, and bama butter oysters. I also had two "daisy" cocktails, that were delicious. Refreshing mango margarita style cocktail. The oysters came out great. Then we were handed a half bird platter, which we politely told them that we hadn't ordered. Turns out the bartender messed up the order entry. It happens. He proceeds to bring us out "the other half", that was missing 2 biscuits. But then I was charged for two halves and extra biscuits instead of our original order (which comes with 4 biscuits, per image search). The bartender was very apologetic, however we had to keep saying that something was missing from our meal. He offered a free drink and $10 off, yet our meal was already more than it would have been if we had received our original order. Also, randomly, the bartender changed the World Cup to a "crazy indie Japanese film". Just to add to the whole experience. If you are visiting Savannah, this is a place you should venture south of the touristy area and visit. My wife and I have been here 6 or 7 times now and it's consistently great, very quick and a very friendly staff. Pictured are oysters with garlic habanero sauce, the little gem salad, Mahi Mahi and the fried chicken sandwich. They have tons of oyster options to pick from and the salad was tasty, lots of avocado and a mustardy vinaigrette. The shrimp were actually amazing, some of my favorite shrimp skewers ever. The chicken is what they're famous for and it didn't disappoint. The half bird comes with fried pieces and grilled pieces - both were incredible. I actually think I liked the grilled pieces the most because of how unique they were, they were blackened and seasoned amazingly and came with a super tasty sauce. The food here is delicious, glad I tried this spot! But you should definitely get a reservation if possible! We didn't know we needed a reservation if we wanted to sit inside, so we could only sit outside. It was a really warm and humid evening, so it wasn't super pleasant. There were so many flies that we spent so much of our time swatting flies away from our food than getting to enjoy the food itself. They have a fly fan on the table to help discourage the flies, but it didn't really help much at all. On a plus side, there were two cats who were hanging out around us that were very cute and sweet! They have a window outside where you can place your order when you're ready. We ordered the whole chicken dinner, the wedge salad, chicken wings, and the grilled and raw oysters. The oysters were delicious, both raw and grilled. The flavor of the grilled oysters really complimented the oyster's natural flavor really well, and I really enjoyed these. The chicken in the whole chicken dinner was very flavorful and tender. The chicken salad and the fried chicken were my two favorites. The wedge salad was also very good, I really enjoyed the dressing that they had on the salad and the lettuce was nice and refreshing. When researching for my trip to Savannah, I looked for restaurants with mentions of James Beard awards and Michelin stars. Andrew Brochu's name came up as a former chef at Michelin-starred Alinea in Chicago, so I added this restaurant to my list. I could not see the restaurant when I got out if my Uber because the restaurant is back a ways from the street with a tall fence hiding it. The address is Bull St, but the entrance is on 40th St, about a half block from Bull St. You'll walk through a gate onto a large patio and see the restaurant. I walked around the block initially, looking for the entrance was on alert, as the area appeared a bit seedy, but no one approached me . I checked in with the hostess. The place was busy around 6:00, but there was a spot for me at the bar. I ordered the Half Bird with a side of BFT biscuits. The Half Bird includes a fried boneless chicken thigh cut in two pieces, a chicken breast that was sous vide and then charred in a cast iron skillet, and a chicken salad made from drumstick meat, mayo, and sour cream. A "wing sauce" (gravy) and sunchoke hot sauce were also served with the chicken, as well as house pickle spears. The seasoning was on point on EVERYTHING, including the BFT (Brochu Family Tradition) biscuits, which were crisp and fluffy with a savory flavor that included black pepper. The dish was perfect at every bite! I felt compelled to get dessert after that dinner, so I ordered the Banana Pudding, described as banana custard with bourbon bananas. There was also a "crust" on the bottom layer. Maybe graham cracker or vanilla wafer, which is common with banana pudding. It was another perfect dish, and a perfect end to dinner. On my yearly trip to Savannah my brother took me to his favorite restaurant. Brochu's There is an acronym I heard once, K.I.S.S Keep it simple stupid!!!!! Brochu's keeps it simple. They make classic dishes simple, but PERFECT. I ordered the chicken liver which I heard was to die for, the liver was really solid. It came with a side that was some sort of horseradish mayo, which complemented the liver toast in a way that I never knew could exist. The cheeseburger was simple, but perfect. The ingredients were super fresh, the bun was perfectly toasted, the patty was juicy. It was great! I also got a chance to try the whole chicken dinner which is essentially chicken 3 ways. Grilled, fried, and chicken salad. I know I know chicken is kind of over played and boring. But again Brochu's dishes are simple, BUT PERFECT! The grilled chicken is the juiciest most tender chicken I've ever had, the best fried chicken I've ever had, and the chicken salad was also pretty good. Not to mention they make an amazing biscuit. It was a nice day, so we decided to sit on the porch - there's a decidedly more fast-casual feel when you sit outside - when you're ready, you will order at the window, and also go up to the window when you're ready to pay, or if you want to add anything to your order. They bring out a fly fan for the table to keep away the pests. My expectations were rather high for Brochu's, as I've heard great things about the place - the chicken is supposed to be a generous helping, and the chef used to work at Alinea in Chicago. But maybe my expectations were set too high. For one, the half bird came in at $31 and I was told it could feed two. This was definitely not the case - what I got was one grilled chicken breast, two fried thighs, two quarter pickles, and a small cup of chicken salad. Tasty, yes. Generous portion, I think not. It's probably enough for one. So get an appetizer and some sides too, if you're dining with two. We got the cheddar rillette, which was quite tasty, albeit small as well. Two puffy bread pockets, topped with a slightly sweet salt and pepper seasoning, and giardiniera, mostly made of cauliflower.
