I started with a mango walnut salad and I ate a mixed grill appetizer which included a shrimp kebab chicken kebab as well as a scallop kebab. It was really delicious. One of my friends had lobster and shrimp spring rolls. Everyone was pleased and we would definitely come again. The service was great. Chive hit a few high notes but regardless, ended up falling short. It is a dark and funky cocktail bar, which specializes in seafood with an Asian twist. The staff was quite uneven: the host Sam (who looked like he may still be a high school Freshman) seemed unprepared for his role, and stood at the podium awkwardly while we provided the reservation details. Our server Cassidy, however, was clearly more experienced in the hospitality industry, and saved us, showing us to our table. The cocktails were uneven: excellent boulevardier but a meh blood orange martini. Likewise, the food was uneven. The mussels, which Cassidy recommended were truly outstanding: a generous portion steamed in a delicious yellow curry and fennel broth. They were amazing. But the tuna ceviche was a disappointment: a strange and massive column of tuna and avocado, interspersed with an odd melange of fruit that just didn't work. Likewise the lobster & edamame, which was perched upon a large pile of gloppy risotto. Cassidy was a trooper, but in a city with so many excellent restaurants, I would not repeat. read more

Revisited, one of my favorite spots in Savannah... Chive, sea bar, and lounge. The results were good, just not as great as usual. We sat at the bar, which is absolutely gorgeous. The bartender was friendly, mixed a great drink, and very helpful in making a selection from their craft cocktail menu. We also shared one of the specialty salads which had mango, strawberry, pecans, as well as the lettuce and vegetables. The ginger dressing was the star of the night! This was a delicious dish. The muscles, were a little bit disappointing, and things just didn't come together in a cohesive fashion. Maybe it was me, but I expected just a little bit more from my previous experiences here. This has always been one of the better restaurants in town, and still is. Just had the one slightly disappointing dish, which brought the overall rating down to four stars. If I had a 4 1/2 star option, I would've very quickly clicked on that. This is a beautiful spot for date night. Definitely recommend chive! read more

We celebrated our anniversary here while in Savannah. One of the best restaurants we have experienced in a long time. The only downside is trying to find a parking spot in downtown Savannah. His suggestions were on perfect. We tried the stuffed wings with blue crab, chive mussels, lamb chops, she crab soup, and the Chilean sea bass. I can't stop thinking about the mussels and the yellow curry brith with fennel and garlic. It was so delicious. I wanted to grab the bowl and drink all the sauce but I wasn't at home so I had to leave it, but we did order more bread so we could suck as much as we could. The Chilean Sea Bass topped with red curry sauce and served on top of risotto was equally delicious. The fish was flaky, perfectly cooked and paired well with the red curry sauce. Although I did not personally try the soup or the lamb chops they were a hit as everyone left with empty plates. I forgot to mention the stuffed wings. Well they were delicious. The appetizer comes with 1 wing that we shared. Yes shared. It's stuffed with blue crab meat and I believe grilled with a slightly smoky flavor. A must try appetizer. I can't forget the carrots and cucumber salad on the side in a sweet and spicy rice vinegar sauce was also yummy. Great choice, the bar staff was super and entertaining. We got to ask all the questions about mocktails and cocktails they offered. We had a couple of appetizers - the ceviche tower was excellent, and the charcuterie board was really good. For the meal we shared a shrimp dish which was also good. The decor and seating arrangement was unique. There is a center bar area with lots of bar seats around it when you first walk in. There are tables in the middle, and the booths on the side are essentially couches separated with curtains so each booth has privacy, which was really nice. If we visit Savannah again, we would definitely return. read more

During our week-long foodie adventure in Savannah, we stumbled across a spot called Chive--and wow, are we glad we did. From the moment we walked in, the vibe was cool and laid-back. We were seated in these comfy little chairs that made it feel more like a lounge than a restaurant. To our surprise, we recognized our waitress from another location we'd visited earlier in the week. She remembered us, treated us like VIPs, and made the whole experience even better. My wife was on a mission to get her oysters fix--and she finally did. I watched in pure disgust (I hate oysters), but she was in her happy place. The waitress recommended the bass, which caught my wife's attention, but I had my eye on the crab-stuffed flounder. I was feeling adventurous, and let me tell you--it paid off. When the food hit the table, we were knocked out of our socks. I took one bite of my wife's dish and thought, "OK, that's good..." but then she tried mine. Game over. I clearly won the night (she still disagrees, of course). As the evening wound down and closing time neared, our waitress nudged us to try dessert. "Since you're twisting my arm... OK then!" We ordered the chocolate marquis, and it was absolutely worth it.
