    Fun water. Not internal.

Tasty Scandinavian food with a local twist. Order at counter. Friendly service. Very Scandinavian vibe, just there and happy to serve. Pretty hearty. Bring an appetite but it is worth it. Also square eggs are awesome and so on point. I remember those living in Denmark.

Delicious breakfast! I ordered the Swedish hash with smoked trout and my partner had the Swedish meatballs. We shared an order of the Danish pancakes as well. Everything was wonderful and the restaurant had a warm cozy atmosphere.

    Our breakfast brunch was amazing‼

Food was delicious, ambiance very nice, and customer service was quick and excellent!

    Dutch pancakes = 10/10

Stumbled upon this place on a road trip that took us through Astoria. It was a cute place with delicious food. I had the Dutch pancakes with the lemon curd and the jam and a side of bacon. Both were amazing! The food was out fairly quick, as well.

Really wonderful food and service. A great location and nice vibe. Great way to start the day!

Very cute breakfast spot in Astoria and it turned out to be both delicious and very family friendly. It's an order at the counter and they bring the food to you spot but we managed to get a good sized table for 4 adults and 4 kids off to the side of the restaurant. I loved the little pancakes with the jam and lemon curd but my favorite thing was the breakfast crepes. The sauce was so rich and delicious. Very unique flavors and food presentation was so nice. I would love to come back

Golden Milk with my wallet next to danish pancakes but Broder calls them Æbleskiver.
    Logan J.

Jack was kind and welcoming as soon as we walked in. The golden milk with Swedish oat milk was to die for, but in the literal way, just in the way you say, "omg this is to die for" but it was really that good. And the large 16oz was enough to drink throughout the entire meal. Matter of fact, it lasted longer than my appetite. But enough with the golden milk. Like I said, Jack was very kind as we walked in. I mentioned that I misread "Lord Bergamot" listed in their tea section as "Lord farquad" and Jack laughed as he mentioned in response that he had watched Shrek the night prior with his son. But now we're really getting away from Broder. The entire reason you're reading this review. And honestly, if you're still reading this, I'll do my best to convince you it was worth the investment of your time. The restaurant was maybe three quarters full as I walked in. Audible environment wasn't overwhelming but it was lively with laughter from those that were there already. Must have been because of the food. Or maybe drugs were involved. No judgement either way. I ordered corned beef hash and the danish pancakes with lemon curd and strawberry/blueberry jam. But thankfully they don't mix the two or that would have not been good nor palatable. The corned beef hash was hearty and delicious. Great portion and the flavor drew a curiosity of the spices used to make such a layered dish. The danish pancakes were quite soft and not too sweet. The spices were also intriguing. Okay I give up, I need to drive home now. All of this to say, great staff, peaceful environment, decadent food, and a place I plan to come back to. I might come back and edit my review and tell you about Jacks son and Gary from the infamous band floating glass balls. But that's only if you're lucky...

    Uunipurro (oatmeal cake).

Excellent brunch experience here with our toddler son. We have Danish heritage in the family, so it was wonderful to eat some Scandinavian food. I thought my son would love Ableskiver, but he didn't, lol! My son loved the side of sausage though! I had the uinipurro (oatmeal cake), which was really tasty & healthy. My husband liked his ham/cheese crepe as well. The inside was clean & modem. I really like how the bistro is connected to The Commondor boutique hotel's lounge. The cozy lounge has a fireplace & books, and lots of comfy oversized couch. The service was very friendly too. We will definitely revisit in the future.

Super cute and quirky decor. Order at the counter then they deliver to your table. We got a Bloody Mary and a grapefruit mimosa. Both delicious. They even had jalapeño vodka to make the bloody even more spicy. DH got the two egg breakfast minus the lingonberry. Sausage tasted homemade. Mustard sauce was savory but sweet. I got the mushroom sandwich. I was expecting an actual sandwich but it was served open faced. Mushrooms, eggs and bread were perfect. The sauce was very sherry forward. Not my cup of tea. I would love to go back and try the rest of the menu the next time we are in town.

This is a nice little Nordic cafe. We got the Swedish hash and potato crepes to eat, both of which are served with 2 eggs. We also mocha and mimosa to drink. The food was delicious, and I loved the mocha as well.  Friendly staff, and the place was cute. Give this place a try; you won't be disappointed.

Broder Strand Astoria - danish pancakes

Cute shop with great food. We'd first encountered Broder at a different location where the food was great but customer service was lacking. When we noticed this location we were hopeful. At this spot the service was as great as the food...all so good we ended up eating here both mornings while in town. Our fab breakfasts: danish pancakes, potato pancakes, and the classic 2 egg plate. Every single bite was YUM. At this location they use counter service for placing your order. Service was very friendly, well-organized, and the food served fast and hot. Literally zero complaints...all goodness. We will definitely be back anytime we are in Astoria.

Cute Nordic breakfast cafe adjoining the Selina Commodore hotel in DT Astoria. Delicious coffee, lots of loose-leaf tea options, savory and sweet breakfast selection. Hubs got the two eggs with fruit pancakes + strawberry compote (the day's offering as each day they make a new, fresh fruit sweet spread). Egg options include soft/med/hard-baked. Or scrambled, but also baked. Don't expect diner fried, but still very tasty served with rock salt and scallions. Aebelskivers are delicious, served 4 or 7, dusted with powdered sugar + two fruit dips. Lemon curd is a must. They're quite sizable so if you're not sharing four should be plenty. Espresso drinks lean into third-wave roast (more medium/bitter). But sugar options abound... raw and granulated. Staff is so friendly all over.

Service was great, food was amazing! The ham breakfast sandwich was the favorite-- it was so flavorful and well seasoned. The only thing I would change is the Swedish meatballs could have been salted more & I didn't love the jam on top (thought they should be more savory vs sweet). Still absolutely delicious and highly recommend!

Potato, pepper and mushroom hash topped with soft baked eggs and beets. Simply amazing!

Does Broder serve those very, very heavy Finnish pancakes made for Finnish loggers in Canada?

Nope. No Finnish pancakes. They have Ableskivers (round Danish pancakes) with lemon curd, lingonberry, and other dipping sauces. They're amazing, but not Finnish.

The Knot provided the perfect combination of both. The food was excellent! In particular, we absolutely loved the pickled rockfish, salmon chowder, salted chocolate caramel custard and house-made citrus NA ginger ale. We happily enjoyed our meal while watching ships, seals, birds and ocean life. The server told us about the ships and even a podcast report to learn more about passing vessel traffic. It simply made me want to return for a longer and slower visit! Maybe to sit by the fire pit out front while watching life go by. A bonus was a (free) EV hook up adjacent to the property.

We got our bread and basically finished it before we got our drinks. The bartender was new and she was looking at physical recipes to make each of our drinks. Im glad we weren't in a hurry. The view is outstanding and you can sit outside in the nice weather which we had that day because the inside is very small. We even saw a sea lion swimming off the pier as we enjoyed our drinks. A little pricey for what you get but overall still good but not somewhere I would return to with all the other options in the area.

One of them suggested Broder Nord and I'm so glad they did. It's a restaurant I've wanted to try. We were still able to snag a table mid-day on a Sunday. The staff were friendly and efficient, the dining area was light filled and airy. But the food-yummo! My one complaint is that they don't have any mocktails or NA beer or wine. But the coffee was quite good. The four of us shared the pancakes, which are more like pancake balls. They were soft and delicious. We ordered lemon curd and lingonberry jam to spread on them. I loved that they weren't very sweet, it was like having a not too sugary treat. For an entree, I had the Swedish hash with trout, which is topped with baked eggs. It was simply divine. One of my friends had the Lost Eggs, which is eggs baked with creamed spinach. She raved about the delicious sauce. Another had an open faced sandwich with a potato pancake and our other friend had the sausages, which come topped with some salad veggies, and a pastry. Everyone really enjoyed their food. One friend bought a large cookie we all split, it was like a butter cookie with lemon curd in the center. Again, not too sweet but totally delicious. Take a trip to Scandinavia at Broder Nord!

The sad thing is that the molded sawdust is sheathed with veneer, thin sheets of wood peeled from often old growth trees or endangered tropical hardwoods. Often that tree that took a hundred years or more to grow, is being used to make a piece of furniture with a life of 3-5 years. Don't let us get started into veneer poaching http://www.nbcbayarea.com/news/california/Redwood-Park-Closes-Road-to-Deter-Burl-Poachers-248659171.html. Or hardwoods fueling war lords. http://bigstory.ap.org/article/liberia-ex-forestry-boss-arrested-corruption. That's just sick. The Good Mod is going against that grain. Their specialty is mid-century modern from the Scandinavian invasion. Those Vikings and their furniture! They refinish or reupholster the pieces as necessary and the price reflects that. If you have ever priced having a piece of furniture shot with a couple coats of lacquer by a professional, who also, by the way, is being paid to properly handle lacquer, which is very toxic, you know. But those prices are comparable to the new price in its time. And you are getting a piece of furniture you can pass down generations. In fact, some of it may become design auction material in the future. They were good on my visit with cadenzas, occasional chairs, classic Knoll chairs, a few sofas, lighting. They also gather up some industrial artifacts and repurpose them, if that fits your aesthetics. One of their newest spec pieces is a walnut ping pong table, which could also be used as a dining table. This item would fit well into the tech startup world. If you are an art director or set decorator they would be a good resource. The Good Mod has moved around and as of this writing are up a creaky elevator or quite a few stairs on the fourth floor. But that gives them a new big cheap space. And note to new arrivers decorating your Pearl condos - if you can rock this style, you can patronize a great Portland reuse business. You can even fib a little and claim your hip grandparents/parents/you bought it new! The Good Mod cleans up and restores furniture from the mid-century modernist age. Reduce, reuse, recycle! Be cool, stay cool, keep cool! (Thanks to Mr Oscar Brown Jr)
