A few friends were taking me out for my birthday, we had originally planned to go to a different place on N. Mississippi, but they were surprisingly closed. One of them suggested Broder Nord and I'm so glad they did. It's a restaurant I've wanted to try. We were still able to snag a table mid-day on a Sunday. The staff were friendly and efficient, the dining area was light filled and airy. But the food-yummo! My one complaint is that they don't have any mocktails or NA beer or wine. But the coffee was quite good. The four of us shared the pancakes, which are more like pancake balls. They were soft and delicious. We ordered lemon curd and lingonberry jam to spread on them. I loved that they weren't very sweet, it was like having a not too sugary treat. For an entree, I had the Swedish hash with trout, which is topped with baked eggs. It was simply divine. One of my friends had the Lost Eggs, which is eggs baked with creamed spinach. She raved about the delicious sauce. Another had an open faced sandwich with a potato pancake and our other friend had the sausages, which come topped with some salad veggies, and a pastry. Everyone really enjoyed their food. One friend bought a large cookie we all split, it was like a butter cookie with lemon curd in the center. Again, not too sweet but totally delicious. Arrived here at 11:09 am and the time is now 12:52 pm, still haven't received our food. We are a party of 8 with two small children, one was asleep at the time and so my wife who was carrying her sat down at an empty table while the rest of us waited in line. One of us went inside to get a menu, but was told to wait outside in line. This same server came out a minute later and rather rudely told us we needed to all wait in line and leave the table. Fast forward 30 minutes the same server came out and told us we could sit at the same table he had made us leave. Do not come here if you have small children or the patience of a saint. Bring some snacks maybe? Update: got the food at 1:03 pm. Most of my party got the meatballs, while I got the fish board and the kids got the danish pancakes with a side of bacon. Food came out at the same time, and based on the food temperature it seems some of it had been waiting for the rest to be finished. Perhaps they felt the long wait time was necessary to make the food more appetizing, but despite the long wait and almost desperate state of hunger, the food tasted disappointingly mediocre. Nothing was outrageously bad or good, but rather bland. The sole exceptions being a rather surprisingly spicy horseradish sauce and tasty...jam. We've been to all (?) the Broder locations, as we really enjoy the food. Loved that this location had self-serve drip INCLUDING decaf. Slow counter service and a bit of a wait for our food here, but on par with great food. My husband tried something new (baked egg sramble) which wasn't his favorite item on the menu as he found it a bit dry...the rest of the items were yummy as usual. Highly recommend the cardamom pastry knot. We saw those come out as we were waiting on our food and they looked good enough we grabbed one to-go. FABULOUS. read more

Stopped in for some breakfast with the sisters on a Sunday morning and overall had a pleasant experience! The service was friendly and we were lucky to get a table inside just as it was getting cleared. I ordered a matcha latte and a breakfast sandwich with bacon. This is an open face sandwich. Overall the sandwich was good with the fresh greens. The bacon and eggs were cooked perfectly. The restaurant was quite crowded and busy, clearly very popular! Also the wait for the food was a bit longer than expected. This was my first time visiting but I would definitely love to visit again and try other items on their menu. I haven't had a lot of Scandinavian food and would be interested in exploring more of that! read more

Broder is definitely in the list for popular Portland breakfast and brunch institutions and I will say the abelskiver alone gets them that nod. I have been to this spot and the sister locations and can say that the food is tasty with a calm, relaxed aesthetic. I have tried a couple other items like the potato pancake, seasonal sauteed veggies, and sweet/savory porridge. All of the food has been good, but I will say the abelskiver is the standout for me -- the most memorable little bite that I will order every time I go in. Service is friendly and definitely helps explain the menu if you have any additional Qs. This spot is pretty flexible if you're an omnivore OR a lacto-ovo vegetarian aka you eat eggs and dairy. I would, however, severely advise against dining here if you are strictly vegan as I think you'd have pretty limited options with things either substituted or completely excluded. I appreciate their vegetarian options, but really not a vegan spot. Prices are fair for the quality and taste; swing by and see what you think! Fair warning, waits can get crazy during peak weekends hours so plan accordingly. read more

Everytime I travel to PDX, I try and swing by to Broder Nord or the other 2 locations. The ambience is super cozy on a cold rainy Portland day. My go to is to get the full experience, aebelskivers, smoked trout, gimlet (rye). The trout has the perfect amount of smoke and crisp. And the aebelskivers with jam is just heaven. Service is excellent. It gets very popular on weekends so expect a lil wait. 11/10! read more

The ebelskivers were good but lacking a little flavor. They were puffy and of good texture but there was no flavor. I got some brunch here after a barre class and had a great time. I've been to their other location, Broder Cafe, and in comparison, this location offers much more seating both inside and outside. Thus, the only wait you have is when you order at the counter (then you're seated and the food is brought out to you). We ended up waiting for a while anyways as the line was quite long, and they were short-staffed. The food here is delicious and portions are great for lunch. Pretty good spot. Everything we ordered was pretty high quality. A step up from the "standard" brunch place, whatever that means. For example, the soft boiled eggs actually had nicely runny yolks and the whites weren't browned. A lot of places screw these sorts of things up. Nothing stood out to me as too incredible though. Like there wasn't any dish or drink I had that makes me eager to return. The meal was also a bit expensive, a little over $60 for my girlfriend and I, and we didn't order too much food. So yeah, at that price point I guess I see it as an ok option but not one I'd want to settle for. read more

The staff were all wonderful- everyone we spoke to had nothing but kind things to say and even gave us blankets as we sat outside in the chilly weather. We LOVE the Broder restaurants, as they have 3 in the Portland area (our fave is Broder Söder, such a lovely spot!), and one in Hood River. This location is small inside, but in the warmer months they do have patio seating as well. If you come here when they're busy it's a bit awkward because you order at the counter and then you can take a seat at an open table, but since it's a small place they don't take your order at the counter until a table is available. Because of this we waited in line to order and then stood at the counter in all about 20 minutes before it was our turn and a table opened up. But this system helps keep orders spaced out for the kitchen team working hard to prepare the meals and ensures you have a table to eat at when your food is ready. I had a delicious lamb burger there, and I like that it's a good size, but not too huge like some burgers are. The Hubs had the open-faced meatball sandwich (Danish-style meatballs), and while he said it was delicious, it was a rather small portion, even by my standards. We both had a potato pancake as our side, also tasty, and I ordered a side of sautéed veggies for us to share, which were perfectly cooked & tasted excellent as well. I travel often and love to try new restaurants and food. You have to order from the counter, and it took a really long time to get the food, which wasn't that good or worth the wait. The best thing was the brisket but I wasn't thrilled about the potato pancakes and the Danish ball pancakes "abelskivers" were heavy boring and lacking in flavor. The dips options were also nothing to write home about. The lemon curd and apple compote tasted like canned pie filling options and the syrup was just ordinary syrup. The lingonberry jam was ok. I had one pancake and it was plenty. It was also really noisy in there as it was crowded, and the loud music on top of it made it uncomfortable to attempt conversation. The mandatory 18% tip just added salt to the wound. They have lots of really good reviews so all of this took me by surprise. I won't be back. read more

Ordered the Pytt I Panna (Swedish hash) with trout and the six piece Aebleskiver (Danish pancakes). Both were delicious and I really enjoyed it. The Pytt I Panna comes with Yukon gold potatoes, sweet peppers and two soft baked eggs. It's topped with roasted beets and scallion and served with Nordic rye toast or gluten-free toast. This dish was super flavorful and filling. I thought the serving size was perfect! The Aebleskiver is served with your choice of two of the following: lemon curd, lingonberry jam or seasonal compote. It was light, fluffy and not overly sweet. The lemon curd and lingonberry jam were so yummy and out of the two, I liked the lemon curd more. A pleasant spot to brunch on Mississippi! We ordered first and grabbed a number and sat down. It's a really nice vibe overall, especially with the color scheme that screams Scandinavian themes. The food does take a while to come out. I think we waited for about 40-45 minutes until it came out. I was pretty darn hungry when the food came out. The Aeblerskiver was fluffy and quite dense. I was expecting it to be lighter, but what gives. The lemon curd was a lot better than the jam, but I quite enjoyed trying both together. As for the lost eggs, I love that it wasn't very salty! Came here for a solo brunch on a Sunday. Was expecting a line since they didn't take reservations, and indeed there was. Which was fine. Once I ordered at the counter, I found a seat and waited for my food. And waited. And waited. 30 minutes later, still no sign of the food. When I asked a server about it, I was told dismissively that it was a Sunday. At this point, I had been there for over an hour. Then I started getting attacked by bees. When I looked up, I saw that there were a couple bee traps hanging on the tree around which the courtyard is centered. Food finally came. I was still hopeful. But unfortunately was disappointed. Im not generally a brunch person but I appreciated the departure from the typical boring brunch menu at this Scandinavian spot, tho nothing too new or crazy flavor wise. We tried the Lost Eggs dish and the Abelskiver (donut balls). The lost eggs were pretty tasty, it's a skillet w/ poached eggs & you can choose w/ ham or mushrooms and we got the mushrooms which added some more smooth creaminess and savoriness to the dish w/ the creamed spinach. It had a bit of crunch on top which was nice for texture. Abelskiver was pretty good too especially w/ the lemon curd & lingonberry jams. I didn't think the syrup for 2.50 was worth it. We also tried a side of the sausage which was pretty good too. Food was good, but always a little annoying when you have to order first at counter w/ automatic gratuity but then they bring it to your table and bus after you. From front door to front counter is the hungry ordering line, so best you take a moment to review the menu to avoid flat smiles from the staff. Cozy & homey, feels like what IKEA tries to be. The unique Scandinavian twist is what makes the tastebuds naturally interested. The kitchen is always consistent with great salt balance. The simple mulled wine was spoonfuls of spiced tidbits. We stumbled upon Broder Nord while scoping out the local area and I'm more than glad that we found it. First, they are only open until 3pm, so be sure you get there before closing time. There were so many things that we wanted to try, but settled on a few classics for our first time. Clearly, everyone should grab the Swedish meatballs; it doesn't matter the time of day, if they are available, grab them! First, you can't go wrong with meatballs, but more importantly, everything on that plate was incredible. I was torn between the potato pancake and the daily side, but I can't say enough about the pancake. It was also perfection. If you're looking for portion control, taste the bread, but move on. Broder's family of brunch restaurants offer some of my favorite breakfast foods in the PNW. I am thankful for a location nearby after they closed the former NE location near the river. This restaurant can be classified as fast-casual. I am personally not a fan of this style of dining, especially when compared to the experience at other Broder locations. However, I am sure this experience works for folks who could be in a rush or are just hopping in for brunch quickly. I enjoy sitting for more than 45 minutes. We came here on a weekend, so we expected a wait. The team was very gracious and made us coffees, while also noting our place in the ordering queue while we waited for fresh table space. Guests who have not ordered are not entitled to a table - so please heed the messaging from staff. Once we were able to order, things went fast. However, prices are not different from other menus in Broder, and this location adds an automatic gratuity. Considering that the team did not check in on us aside from taking an order and delivering food, it feels a little strange. I understand the intention, but, for a fast-casual joint, this will definitely ruffle feathers. We heard several people commenting on this being a negative. I ordered the lost eggs, and, my eggs were not cooked. Most of the wet ingredients were too moist, which is probably the reason behind the eggs whites remaining raw. From my perspective, the dishes here seemed rushed and quite small (this is a comment from a fellow guest). I love Broder, so this experience doesn't deter me. However, I would recommend a summer experience more when the patio is ideal for outdoor dining. It would be nice to see heaters added to the patio in winter, which, could add some ease to the indoor space. read more
