Over the past month we have searched for a facility to take care of my Mom due to a continued decline in memory and reached out to their director Susan and was able to secure a room in their "memory care" wing of the facility. During the process, their nurse met with my Mom and had contacted her PCP for information and up until yesterday they became concerned that my Mom was on a antibiotic for a medical condition that she no longer has (tested negative early April). When I asked what my Mom's PCP told them I was informed they had left a message an they did not respond. In literal a few hours we went from moving in on April 6 to "sorry, we can never take your Mom, but can help you find a place". Please note that we have already given the notice at my Mom''s current facility. The worse part is that I never spoke with the nurse. All of my Mom's health concerns and denial came their director on site contacting me. The question becomes: do you want your loved one in a place where their director and nurse can make decisions like this in a vacuum and apply them to your already stressful situation.

They did not provide regular detailed invoices yet charged my mother's credit card continually. After a month an a half and after I discontinued their service, I questioned the billing and had to insist on a full accounting. It took a while to get this, but it turns out, she was over charged over $800. My mother was finally refunded this amount but I was never given an explanation nor an apology, so I have to conclude it was due to incompetency, lack of oversight, and/or possibly fraud.

For the price that residents pay they have yet to clean the hallway carpet. It used to be white and gray (maybe when they first opened). It's been brown for quite a while. With 80 or so residents at $6K a month, you'd think they could at least afford professional carpet cleaning once a year. The rooms also aren't cleaned very well. Families have to pick up the slack. Food is unhealthy and with sedentary residents, they'll be sure to gain weight easily. High staff turnover rates and staff that don't seem to care about people as much as just collecting a paycheck. Lots of "it's not my job" attitudes if you ask for anything. The lady at the front desk is so grouchy and unfriendly, you'd think she was working for free. Luckily there are a handful of caring staff (like the activities director Kelly and a few others) that keep this place going.

Took good care of her really were sincerely interested in her well-being. About a year and a half later she had a terrible stroke and went to the hospital. Parkland said let's bring her home because you have eight brothers and sisters and we'll have a hospital bed and a 24 hour nurse so you guys can visit with your mother. She passed a week later, and everyone in the family got to see her, or get a telephone conference, to say they loved her. We highly recommend Parkland memory care for your consideration.

Through experience I have come to believe that staff turnover is highly correlated to quality and consistency of care. As I searched I was looking for an intimate and clean setting with low staff turnover as an indicator that the staff were happy in their job and therefore capable of providing consistent high quality care. Many, if not most at Parkland have been there 5-6 years. It was no contest. Parkland is a great facility, built specifically for memory care patients. What truly impresses, though, is the caring, attentive nature of the staff...and I mean everyone from the executive director to the caregivers!! They actively engage the residents and are kind, attentive and respectful. I am so happy I made the choice to take her to Parkland. She recently passed but loved her time there, especially loved the staff and the residents. If you have choice, you need to look at Parkland first. Incredible!

I gave them a 30 day notice that we would be leaving, but they failed to adjust the last months billing to reflect the move out date. Then the next month, after I turned off the automatic billing in the payment system they charged another month to our account. The manager of this site, Logan, is a liar and a dirtbag. He never once followed through on anything, and he accused me of being the problem. He accused me of stealing the wheelchair that I bought on their demand, and claimed he had video evidence. I'm sure he did see me take the wheelchair out with my mother, but that's not evidence that I stole the chair. They did return the money after I called them out 2 weeks after they stole our money. I'm still going to have to go to small claims court for the services that they documented that they didn't do. If you love the person you are caring for, then DON'T GO HERE!
