This store has to be one of the best in the area, The vegetables are of the best quality, a great selection of meats, Good deli and of course my favorite, the bakery, It's like anywhere else you have to buy the sale items to save a buck, but a choice T-Bone steak on sale for $4.99 a lb is a good deal to me, I bet I spend a little over half of our food money here. easy parking, quick checkout and plenty of room in the aisles, the only problem I have had is sometimes the prices are so low at the Deli you might have to wait a while, like when Krakas ham was $2.00 a lb, people were a little crazy. read more

Looking for reasonably priced lunchmeat that is fresh? This is the place! A nice surprise has been their extensive list of ethnic foods and variety of cheeses, sausages, and more. Don't expect all items to be cheaper than everywhere else, but overall, our grocery bill has been cut by 40% and the vegetable and fruit quality is better than Jewel or Dominicks. Want an idea? Paid 69 cents per pound for red peppers this weekend, $2.99 a pound for Bobak's ham, and $5.99 per pound for Ribeyes that were really thick, tender, and packed with flavor. Give it a whirl. Ever since Mariano's open, this place has gone downhill. Their produce is not as fresh is it used to be. Prices are not the deals they used to be. Seems like everyone has given up and they just don't care about customer service or cleanliness. Lettuce is wilted . You don't ever ask for advanced sales paper. Its like stored in Fort Knox. I mean, what's the big secret?? Aldi, Mariano's. all the stores put their sales papers out a week in advance. This place just doesn't want to give out deals. You would think that they would bend over backwards to keep the little customers they have left. But that is not the case. What time, I bought some lamb chops and I took them home, and they smelled rancid. I still had the receipt and I returned them. And the manager gave me a hard time...like it was my fault! read more

5 stars for service and selection. This would never be a good every day grocery store, but if there's something you couldn't find in the other area stores, give this place a try. Also, their butchers are super helpful, not just with discussion about cuts, but also suggestions for prep. They also run great specials on whole beef tenderloin. Why is it so reasonable? It's select and not choice, but for something like a Wellington, you'll never notice. Great spot. read more

This place is WONDERFUL! NOT your regular grocery store (for example, you can't buy EVERYTHING here, but what you CAN buy here is GREAT). Freshest produce (best prices), great meat selection (good prices), great deli and small bakery. Great sales (weekly ads). They also offer many things you cannot find anywhere else in area (ethnic specialties, Polish, Mexican and kolacky from Racine Bakery-wish they carried more selections from Racine Bakery!) and very nice wine selection. I'd be in trouble if I lived closer, as I would probably balloon up from gorging myself on massive amounts of their food and alcohol. But, since I live aways away, I stock up when I get here about once every other week. They have a deli kiosk when you walk in the door to place your deli order so there is no waiting in line for that. My son has a closer relationship with the "cookie lady" at the bakery than his grandma. read more

This place always has interesting things. They have your conventional grocery store items plus unique foods from "around the world". I've been able to find unusual things here such as chick pea flour and other obscure items like ground chicken. The deli has excellent prices on their lunch meat. The produce department has regular specials and can have very good prices but watch what you buy as I've seen some of the products out of date on numerous occasions. The meat department has average prices but I've had to stand around waiting for help on a couple separate occasions. For the most part, it's worth a trip if you're looking for some different foods. read more

Excellent and one of a kind grocery around. I have never had a bad experience at this location. The manager knows EVERY item in his store. I was looking for Rose Water and he walked to the EXACT location without thinking. The sales are awesome, especially when the shish-k-bob's go on sale for .89 cents!! Good place for groceries. Not expensive at all. My only discrepancy is that their bakery isn't the best. It just doesnt have the amount and variety of baked goods that even your standard Dominicks would have. All in all, its actually a pretty solid place. read more

Ordered the Italian Beef package again. Same price, same great deal. Outstanding! My husband went to pick up the order, and came home with just beef and au jus. I called the store to ask about the balance of my order. Each person I spoke to was very professional and apologetic. The clerk asked for my address and said they would deliver the balance of my order to my home. Outstanding! To top it off, they added a gift card to acknowledge my inconvenience. read more

This has to be my favorite grocery store of all time ( Granted Whole Foods, Walts and Piggly Wiggly are all contenders) this is a specialty grocery store with practically Aldi prices. Especially if your main concerns are produce, meats, bakery and deli. You can purchase enough to fill your fridge for a week or so for $45 while it would cost $100 at Jewel. Granted might not always have little things your looking for but plenty of great ingredients for ethnic recipes. Also have have unique offerings like great seafood spread, six or so in house sausages (Greek, hot, mild, chorizo etc.) and like I said before cheap quality meat with wider variety then Jewel/Dominick's. Plus whole bakery spread. If you live in the South Suburbs definitely where you want to shop, they have other locations too. Even when I move to the city will probably still make the trip out here once a month. read more

I love this grocery store! The produce is the best I have found in the area. The deli is well stocked. All of the employees are so nice and helpful. They have a lot of ethnic foods I can't find elsewhere. They carry Labriola bread products which are the absolute best and I haven't found elsewhere out here. If there is a long deli line (although they move through it efficiently in my experience) you can always order at the kiosk at the front and pick it up towards the end of your shopping trip. read more

My mistake for listening to her. 3 different cards locked out because their system is crap and the manager tells me maybe there isn't money in the accounts or maybe I should use cash, if I had cash on me I would have used it! Although the deli department is wonderful, the produce department is not. More than once, I have bought produce that was firm and looked fresh and when you cut into it, it is brown. This happened to me once again today. I went in for eggplant and it looked wonderful, but after cutting into it, it was bad. In the garbage it went. I also had a hard time finding some yellow squash that was not wrinkly and soft. After digging through what they had, I found one that was somewhat firm. I will be oven roasting some veggies tonight and I can only pray that their squash will not end up being tossed. Mokena Brookhaven started out really good, but now that Mariano's is in Frankfort I think less people are shopping here. That might be one reason their produce is near the spoiled point. I don't think they sell as much as they used to. read more

First and last time there unless I stop to try a homemade pizza. Sent in 3 different areas to find twinkies and cupcakes.....first store I have seen that doesn't carry them. Lettuce 1 day from expiration finally dug and dug and found 2 with a one week expiration dates of 1 week. Bakery looked good, hubby tried delicious looking cherry strudel, very blah taste for 2.99, hopefully cherry slice wb good, his Entemanns donut I bought instead of Twinkie very good. Pomegranate Cheerios taste like regular ones only crunchier but much more expensive. read more

if i could do more i would besides leave a yelp review, i would. me and my 3 friends walked in , were not served whatsoever at the warm phyllo dough spiral section so we simply left due to the fact we were on our work break. we walk out to the car at a faster pace due to the snow outside and we then hear a man screaming at us and running towards our car claiming we stole, in front of other customers, in front of those in the parking lot, in front of girl scouts at the front entrance. EMBARRASSING. he screamed what did you steal, what's in your bags and began to say security will be called and began to take a picture of my car and license plate after we offered him to check our bags. we went back in requesting the picture to be deleted and requested a reasoning as to why we were publically confronted and chased outside the building. To conclude, besides being impolite and completely rude overall, that is against all store protocol to CHASE customers to their car, who purchase groceries from your store every week. A regular customer or not, that is AGAINST PROTOCOL and not allowed. My 3 friends nor me unfortunately will NEVER be coming back to Brookhaven Mokena. read more

I like Brookhaven a lot of ethnic foods but since Marianos open seems like the quality went down.

Places like Brookhaven make me miss the suburbs. Not enough to move back all the way out here, but maybe make the trip to see Mom and Dad even more often. I spent $45 here yesterday and got at least a week's worth of turkey, chicken in stir-fry form to make for dinner tonight (for $1.50), cheese, and then at least 2 weeks worth of apples, nectarines, romaine (99 cents for what I'd normally pay at least $3 for), spinach, broccoli, tomatoes, peppers (seriously, red peppers for like $1.25/lb? When Dominick's usually charged $4? ) cilantro (huge bundle for like 45 cents), bananas...really, you name it. I think it was priced at least 50% lower than what I'd expect to see at the bigger chains for produce. And it is clearly a much better quality than what I am used to! I too steered clear of the middle for the most part (parents advised me the prices weren't any better on that stuff than the chains, and in some cases even more so), but they do have a much more interesting selection than the chains. I was so happy to see this V8 Splash Smoothie that I used to drink years ago and that ceased to be found in the grocery stores I frequent. A place like this probably wouldn't work in the city, I don't know how they could keep their prices this low, but I so wish they would!!! read more

Hate to be the reviewer that breaks the 4+ star ratings this place has going but it really is just OK. I started shopping here when they initally opened and would have gladly given it 20 stars then, now they get just three. As other reviewers have posted the deli and bakery are both impressive. I also think both areas are pretty hit or miss. They have a hard time keeping these great deli deals in stock! Especially the more popular meats advertised like smoked turkey and ham. The lines have gotten ridiculous and I no longer attempt them unless its right near opening or closing time. Other than that the lines can easily be 15 people long. They are great about substitutions though. I have had more than one stale pastry form here and now no longer bother. The salads in deli tasted off to both me and my husband. I can't put my finger on it but it seems like instead of mayo they use yogurt? I'm not sure. The variety in the store is very misleading. One would think that a store that sells Indonesian Cinnamon would have a HUGE variety of spices and this is so not the case. Other than the random ethnic spice or product Jewel probably has a larger and more extensive spice collection. The selection of packaged goods are dismal. Want Ritz crackers? They will run you about $5.00 a box if they are even in stock, Don't expect to be able to select a different brand. They seem to carry 2 of 3 of the most popular brands of items and have a very hard time keeping those in stock. All in all for what its worth it's OK. BUt if you require a anything beyond deli meats and produce be prepared to make an adttional stop somewhere else. Also be very wary of the "great deals" on anything beyond deli and produce. They once had milk for $1.69 but every visable gallon expired the next day. Same for yogurt that was 10 for $5.00. I know that stores often do this but I have yet to see milk for $2.00 a gallon expiring the next day. 3 to 5 days later is as close as I have seen stores cut it. read more
