Since moving, we have continued to frequent the Jewel-Osco chain. This location is our closest grocery store other than Mariano's. Since the latter is quite expensive, we started getting our weekly food here and learned a few things: *This grocery store is much smaller than other locations north of Frankfort. They do not have the capacity for all the specialties they offer elsewhere. *Due to the above comment, I believe the space in the store has been compromised. The aisles are tiny. Look out around every corner for others and there is barely enough room for two carts. Add stocking workers and it is a cat and mouse battle. *They have a large alcohol and drugstore portion of the overall store. *They are open much later than other stores in the area. We have discovered other grocery stores in the area which have suited us better. But this continues to be our go to place for a quick item or a stock up on food staples. What happened to customer service? The human interaction felt almost nonexistent. I needed help at self-checkout, and a clerk walked over, scanned her badge, and cleared the alert without even asking what I needed. As usuall item under the sales signs will not "clip" for the price shown on sign . When you ask for help understanding the problem from people who work there you get a blank stare. We then went to the service counter and was told "Just tell them I said the price is what is on the sign" like that is going to work. This is what we get EVERY TIME we are in there. I askwd for a exchange or refund and he store manager basically laughed at us and stating the plants were sold "WITH NO RETIRN OR EXCHANGE". Even though they are part of the Jewel "Floral department", they told us the store does not honor the outdoor plants? So we are stuck with 4 dead plants. I remembered that this jewel was there on wolf and stopped in to buy nutmeg. Just nutmeg.....I walked in and almost puked from the rotten scent that was..... "I thought was do to a garbage can in the entrance," and chose to hold my breath till I got inside and sadly realized that the smell was coming from the grocery store itself. The smell continued all the way to the spice isle and I couldn't get out of there fast enough. I will never be back! The drive up and go is the most TERRIBLE drive up and go I have EVER experienced. When you tell them you don't want substitutions they give them to you ANYWAY even when you mark DONT SUBSTITUTE. They constantly say that they don't have fresh catfish and other items, and often I have gotten out of my car to find that they do have the items in the store, the shoppers just get lazy, and don't care to look for the items. read more

May 4th around 3:30pm my husband went to jewels to buy some 'lemons' & cashier #3 a young man with black hair was being so rude too him. Mind you my husband does not understand perfect english, he was asked how many lemons were in the bag and my husband obviously could not respond so the cashier grabbed the bag in a rough matter and continued to count them. he then said ' fuck u man ' after my husband tried to pay with a $100 bill he was accused of the bill being fake ( which WAS NOT. ) the cashier took a while even asked someone else to check the bill. my husband at this point went descrimiated only because he couldn't defend himself and respond in english. after my husband grabbed his stuff he came home to me and told me what was said to him. i speak both perfect spanish and english so i went back to jewels with him to report this issue! Manager took down my name and number . i hope to hear from the store soon about this problem or i will be visiting soon again to speak to corporate some how! that cashier should be fired ! even if he's having a bad day that doesn't give him an excuse to be that way. if he doesn't like his job . go find another one. Went in tonight to purchase a few items, had alcoholic beverages I wanted to purchase in hand and was looking at formula. Employee Gina said she could not open the formula case so that I could purchase formula. I said it was ok because I was just looking. She saw that I had alcohol in my hand, I followed her up to register and had my items ready to purchase. She then got on the intercom and announced she could no longer serve alcohol while looking at me. She then refused to let me purchase the items she saw I had. Jewel has lost a life long customer. She could have let me know that I needed to purchase the alcohol before 11pm. I called Jewel Osco on laraway and they informed me they sell alcohol until midnight. Very strange that frankfort doesn't and also can't give formula out after a certain time? We will not be back and we will be telling everyone we know of this experience. read more

This is the second time we bought milk from this location and is already curdled and smells bad well before the sell by date. I can remember when Frankfort did not have a decent grocery store and when this one opened, people called it THE Jewel and it was a hang out! I have had really good luck here. I love running into people I know, I really like the organic area for food and I like that there is an Osco connected. We are really lucky to have so many great grocery stores so close. I think the selection here is really good and the prices decent. I do not grocery shop here on a regular basis as I get it delivered, but whenever I need something I have forgotten, I run in here and then usually lumber out with way more things than were on my list. Too many temptations would be my only real complaint. I also wish they would drop the self check out lines. No one seems to like them and they take longer than using a line with a person in them. It's too bad that the other two reviewers seem so darn crabby, it's really a good grocery store. Jewel you may not be a jewel but you're definitely at least a rhinestone! read more

Pre-pandemic, the stocking of shelves appeared to be very poor. Items on shelves were never "faced" so that customers wouldn't have to reach far, far back or kneel on the floor to get them. Those people who worked at Jewel during the pandemic have been rewarded with more self-checkout machines and more layoffs. Today, the deli closed at 4 p.m. without any explanation, turning away quite a few customers. A price dispute at one checkout took more than 10 minutes before a manager arrived to deal with it. I realize the pandemic has resulted in shortages of items, etc., but that doesn't explain why this store seems to be so poorly managed. read more

Went to pick up a drive up order in the morning on 12/19. I received a message on my phone after checking in that it would be up to 5 minutes. It was over that timeframe and received a message that my order was picked up. I got nervous and went in. I ran into the girl who did the drive up orders. I asked her if that was my order. She was very rude and said to me you need to give us time. I said my text said my order was picked up. She said we aren't that stupid. What? Took my order and will not be shopping at that store again. Returned home and found the Susan cookies from the bakery were cracked, because of improper bagging. read more

This Jewel in Frankfort takes forever to restock its shelves. Items you regularly buy suddenly disappear totally and may reappear weeks later. I asked three weeks in a row for a particular brand of cider, which was always available before. Now they are slowly replacing products that you really like with their own Signature brand items, and they are much inferior. You no longer have a choice. Produce can be just awful. Expensive, packaged tomatoes often have rotten items included. Last Sunday, I ordered 12 meatballs for a dinner party tomorrow. When I went to pick them up today, they apologized for not having called me, but there were only 7 meatballs in the deli case and wouldn't have any more until Sunday. Horrendous service. I had horrible service here. I was checking out and had to give my ID for identification for the alcohol I was buying. The woman who came to check my ID told me she wouldn't sell me the alcohol because she thought it was a fake. I am 21 years old and told her I had other proof that it was actually me and instead of being at least looking, she was blatantly rude to my face and embarrassed me in front of the whole store. I had just bought alcohol from them the day before and told her that, she still said no. Jewel is my 2nd choice behind a large liquor store in Orland, but that store couldn't get stock, so I called Jewel. Sarah insisted they don't and never did carry 1/2s in her WHOLE FOUR YEARS of tenure at Jewel. Incorrect. In fact, the liquor manager who was there (Mike I think?) about a year ago went to great lengths to help me attempt to procure an NA 1/2 barrel. We didn't have any luck, but I was so impressed with his service, I ordered and received a 1/2 of MGD 64 instead. Well, Sarah, you lost a customer for liquor and everything else. I will not tolerate being lied to. The young stockers are eager to help and will walk you to product if you can't find it. The supervisors and managers are lazy. They only point in the general direction or, as in Sarah's case, tell you a lie that the product was never carried. There are four five other grocery options in the area. I guess if you need good customer service and truthful response, you need to go to Mariano's or one of the other competitors. read more

In town for a funeral and went to Jewel for some groceries. After waiting for 10-15 minutes at the deli for a few customers with numerous needs, I THOUGHT it was my turn. Then the guy behind the counter called out a number... a number? Oops, the stores I normally frequent don't use these so I hadn't even noticed. Did the guy behind the counter give me any slack when I said something? NOOOOOOO.... Instead he turned to the next customer with a magic number (who had just walked up) and totally blew me off. Needless to say, the customer didn't offer any help either. I gave up and went to check out. After I mentioned what happened to the clerk, the response I got was, "That's deli guys for you." With that I asked for a manager. He said all the right words about how this wasn't supposed to happen and offered to take me back for prompt service. I was fed up and left. This is our go-to grocery store, I visit here twice a week and we love the cheap chicken Monday and the wide selection of meat and seafood. The produce is always fresh and reasonably priced. The cashier Varnell and the workers are very welcoming and friendly.
