A great place to come for a small festive meal. Although, you could come here for any meal. Watch out for those Starters, amazing.

3.5 stars Travelled all the way across the ATL and thru ridiculous traffic to get there hoping the place would be memorable. It wasn't. It wasn't bad, but nothing stood out. Food was good but lacked seasonings which would have put it above average. I.E. Every appetizer seemed to come with a slightly different aoili and every entree with watery mashed potatoes. Service for our table was shuffled and the final waiter seemed a little less knowledgeable or enthused than the one we started with. Wine list was ok. Prices were very reasonable. I'd try it again if I was local, but wouldn't make it a destination spot from other parts of the city. Definitely a grey haired crowd kind of place. read more

The smoked salmon dip was off the chain! The Creole chicken and sausage over basmati rice was incredible. Everyone else in the group said their meal was tasty as well. Everything was lovely except for my meal. I ordered the artichokes as an appetizer and the vegetable plate and everything except the corn was drowning in either butter or oil. Not something one would expect from a vegetable plate. Our waiter was wonderful and offered to bring me a new plate which I turned down but he did try to rectify the matter and in fact took the cost off our bill. The oil on the artichokes was delicious but since you are supposed to hold the leaves in your hand, the oil made very a very messy meal. I wiuld suggest that in the future, the vegetables be steamed and the oil offered for dipping. Or, make certain the menu notes that the food is cooked in oil and/or butter. read more

Brooklyn Cafe - New American Near Me - Atlanta, Georgia

In this non-chain deficient segment of Atlanta, Brooklyn Cafe is a ray of hope. You see, it's been around for a while, opening in the early '90's and then getting bought out in '05 with a revamped menu. And trust me, the new menu is a vast improvement from the former basic Italian fare. On my most recent visit I chose the shrimp tacos and they were very good. The shrimp was large and flavorful and the citrus cream sauce was divine. I would love to try the same sauce on chips, salads, and other dishes-- so good! The tortillas were a little dry, but I'm not judging too much as this isn't a Mexican restaurant. The bite of my mom's crab cake was phenomenal. I'd definitely get the crab cake salad next time around. Service is friendly, good wine list, rather short and uninspired beer list. If I lived in the neighborhood I'd drop by pretty regularly, in part because of the tasty eats, but mostly because of the complete lack of decent restaurants in this area. read more

This is one of my favorite places to dine at outside the perimeter. I use to come here for lunch all the time when I worked for IBM and was able to eat here again before I went to see a show at The Punchline. Of course walking in, i ran into one of my friends that I have not seen in a year! That's what I love about this place...it's got a strong following and the fans just keep coming back. It's like my personal Cheers, OTP! The food is amazing...the best thing on the menu...the CRABCAKES! If it's your first time...don't look at anything else, just get this...trust me! All crab meat with no filler! If you want a smaller portion the crab cake salad is a very good option. Honestly, I've tried a lot of things on their menu and everything is delicious so you can't go wrong with anything you choose. What a neighborhood gem. Imagine all the flavorful heartiness of a trendy steak & seafood bistro combined with a wine-inspired Napa Valley haunt. Being vegan I miss out. My friend gushed about the richness of the grilled avocado & crab appetizer (obviously a Yelpers fav too). I scarfed up the first order of Panko encrusted tomatoes and then, while scraping the leaves off the grilled artichokes, ordered the tomatoes again. :) For entrees the seasonal vegetable plate was good, with the tomatoes being the standout for me. The Asian Kale side salad was so flavorful (they blanched any bitterness away) that next visit, I may just order 4 of them for dinner. My buddy had fat diver scallops which were seared perfectly. The owner has curated an impressive list of wines including several 90 pointers. The two of us had three bottles, plus a sweet finishing glass of port. When the owner noticed we were wine enthusiasts, he came and poured some tastes for us. Seems like a grill. Eats like a New York village critic's choice. Service was great and very accommodating for my crazy dietary restrictions. Oh, and request Paul to wait on you. He's got the right touch of 'let you enjoy the meal' service. read more

I disagree with Marisa. Who says Brooklyn refers to Brooklyn, NY? There's a Brooklyn in just about every state in the US. As a matter of fact, Wikipedia tells me that Brooklyn, Ohio is one of northeast Ohio's most culturally diverse communities so perhaps the Brooklyn Cafe patterns itself after it. I mean who's to say? I love Brooklyn Cafe for a lazy lunch or early dinner before I brave the traffic back home to Old Fourth Ward. Their Caesar salads have one of those awesome Parmesan cheese wafers on top. It's so good. And their fig and walnut salad is just right for a starter when you are really hungry. The roasted pork tenderloin sandwich has great flavor, but sometimes it's a little dry but the panko crusted grouper is a real treat. This place is so down-to-earth and so friendly ... it really makes you feel right at home and I don't even live in the neighborhood. I guess what I am trying to say is that even though I work in Sandy Springs, I've never really identified with Sandy Springs until I walked into Brooklyn Cafe and had a delicious lunch on referral from my co-worker Alyssia. So let's not hold lack of egg creams against a great little neighborhood restaurant. ;) read more

I went here for lunch-date with a relative who was raving about it. It doesn't live up to that kind of hype, not even for lunch. I thought this place was kind of sad. Very mediocre food, and a bit overpriced for what it was: typical American traditional, a few rungs above burgers and fries (though they do have those). Ended up here on a Friday night because I was too lazy to make dinner and was really tired of getting the same old take out from our usual spots. I never usually make reservations in the Sandy Springs area, but my spidey senses were tingling so i called and reserved a table. Lucky thing i did because the lady told me i took the last spot until 10pm. So we ended up getting a 8pm reservation. When we arrived, the place was packed. Our table wasn't ready so we grabbed some seats at the bar and got some drinks. I wasn't too jazzed about their beer selections though. Apparently they have a more serviceable wine list. I downed a couple of beers before realizing that it was well over an hour and our table still wasn't ready. As I was about to stumble over to the hostess, someone escorted us to table right behind where we were sitting. I was a bit peeved that no one even bothered to say sorry or clue me on the time frame....but whatever... Here's a rundown of the food. Lobster Bisque - Quite good really. I'm so used to the slop they serve at Diners that this was a breath of fresh lobster air. It was a bit salty, but full of flavor and even a hint of cognac. Nice..... Strip Steak - This was actually quite nice as well. Well cooked and seasoned. The sides and veggies were kind of generic like an outback steakhouse though. Overall a solid steak. Crab Cakes - Good quality lump crab meat and they didn't try to fool me with fillers. Overall it was a good experience once we sat down. Good quality food and decent service. read more

I love "one of a kind" restaurants, as opposed to chains, no matter how good the chain. There is something about a restaurant that has not been replicated and homogenized in multiple locations. Focused owners helps too. The Brooklyn Cafe in Sandy Springs (Atlanta suburb) is one of those local "joints" I like to find whenever possible. The location is a little hidden in a strip center behind the new "city center" development, but that adds to its "local's neighborhood" vibe. The restaurant's layout and bar is a bit funky, but again, "one of a kind". The food is excellent and the service always friendly. The menu is "American" I suppose, but varies and I've never had anything at BC I didn't like. Try the gazpacho in the warmer months. Solid wine list too... Gee, maybe I should give it FIVE stars?Yes, I should...and just adjusted my rating! read more

Am I really the only person in Atlanta that's had an egg cream?? I ordered one here, with Ubet Chocolate Syrup no less, and the blank stares I got from the waiter, and then the bartender, and then the manager, all told me what I wanted to know. You can bring a great, romantic, delicious restaurant to Sandy Springs, but you can never bring Brooklyn. Even if egg creams don't make you think Brooklyn like they do for me since perhaps they're just a family tradition, there's really nothing here that screams Brooklyn-style Italian food. It's a nice restaurant though for Sandy Springs and it's usually filled with the locals in that Heards Ferry sort of area. Not worth making the schlep OTP though. read more

Brooklyn Cafe is a pretty decent lunch option if you are in the Sandy Springs area. It is in the same shopping center with Breadwinner Cafe, Little Thai and several other businesses. The same shopping center that never has any parking. Good luck on that front. Especially during peak lunch time. Brooklyn Cafe has a simple lunch menu consisting of several salads, sandwiches and a few special entrees. I've had their Monster Smoked Turkey sandwich which is quite hefty, filling and yummy. Their lobster bisque is also pretty good. On a recent visit, I had the day's specials - crab cake salad and wild mushroom soup. Both were good, not great but good. I think I was expecting a bit more with the salad portion of my salad. It seemed pretty boring for such a nice crab cake. Basic greens, a thick slice of tomato, a bit of corn, I think some carrot shreds and a vinaigrette. Not the best supporting cast for the star. But the crab cake was very nice and full of crab. They have a good wine menu as well. I find Brooklyn Cafe to be a bit overpriced for the location and food but it's good in a pinch when we can't figure out where to go. Service is always great. Crowd's usually the work crowd and the over-botoxed women of Sandy Springs. Ladies, ease up. read more

My experience at the Brooklyn Cafe was similar to Louise G.'s - disappointing. My wife and I decided to stop in for a late dinner on a Saturday evening just after 9. When we entered, the restaurant was less than half full, yet we were seated right next to a party of 6 who were enjoying an evening of cocktails. I don't blame my fellow guests - but I do question why the hostess did not at least give us the option of sitting in a quieter location - after about 15 minutes we did move. The hostess told us that our server (Alex or Alice) would be with us shortly but nothing for 10 minutes. When a waiter (who never identified himself) finally ambled over he asked for our order - no recitation of the specials, no offer of salad. My wife ordered shrimp tacos and I ordered the salmon. The food did come out quickly. My wife found her shrimp to be very tasty. Unfortunately the same could not be said of the salmon - a flat, unappetizing piece perched on a mound of mashed potatoes sitting in a grainy, gristly brown liquid (they called "au jus"). I think that in my life I have sent food back maybe once or twice - this $24 salmon dish was so unappetizing, fishy tasting and downright nasty that I put my fork down after a bite or two. Despite the small size of the restaurant, our waiter was nowhere to be found - in fact I don't recall that our original waiter ever came to check on us - so I flagged down a female server/hostess and told here that I could not eat the salmon. I asked for a vegetable plate, figuring that was safer. The veggie plate was a little better - perhaps warranting a 3 - the veggies were fresh but the dish was just greasy. All in all, this was a very disappointing visit and I am striking the Brooklyn Cafe from my list of eateries. As noted, my wife did enjoy her shrimp dish and the food did appear quickly. My wife also enjoyed her glass of wine, which had been recommended by our original waiter. But overall, the service was indifferent and thoughtless and my salmon dish was atrocious. read more

I being the "can I have a bite" person, I tried the crab cake which was nothing but crab and wonderful, best juicy hamburger ever, my lobster bisque was sumptuous and the Key Lime pie was devine ! A true Sandy Springs gem! Sandy Springers no longer need to drive to Buckhead or Decatur for a great foodie meal. At the invitation of some friends we recently had dinner there. The 4 of us started with the roasted artichokes and smoke salmon apps. Both were great! The wine list, while not pages long, was high quality and had some very good values - we opted for the O'shaughnessy Howell Mt. I had sea scallops over squash risotto and it was delicious. After the wonderful entree we had to try desert so we split a huge piece of chocolate cake 4 ways. Top it all off with a Mac 18 nightcap and this was a dinner experience to remember. There is a lot right with this place. It is small and intimate with a great, upscale neighborhood vibe. The place was at capacity but didn't feel overly crowded. We were greeted almost immediately. We placed drink and appetizer orders. Drinks arrived quickly and we ordered our meals. The appetizer arrived and then the salads came about 1 minute later. I intensely dislike when this happens. Our party of 5 had the following: Blue Cheese Chips - go and get them now. Trust me. For locals, they are better than Buckhead Diner. I am not exaggerating. Walnut & Fig Salad - great flavor and perfect size. The tiny diced peppers were an unwelcome surprise. It took me a few minutes to dig them all out but once I did, I practically licked the plate clean. Caesar salad - really good salad for a Caesar and I am an aficionado. I do wish all restaurants would skip those ridiculously salty Parmesan crisps. Does anyone ever eat them? Strip steak - huge steak perfectly cooked and seasoned. Mashed potatoes portion seemed a little small. Shrimp tacos - these were stellar. No other words to describe them. The pairing of this with a size of asparagus is slightly odd yet still delicious. Would love to see something that is finger food. Braised beef short ribs - mouthwatering, cut with a fork Beef swimming in gravy along with a small portion of mashed potatoes and five carrots. The carrots were badass and the potatoes were great as well. I thought that the gravy was delicious but a tad on the salty side. I would order this again. Bone-in Ribeye steak special - my husband didn't share a bite and practically gnawed on the bone. I am assuming he loved it. Creole Chicken and Sausage over rice - this is what my 12 year son gets every time we eat here. At first I was convinced that it was because it came with two obscenely large pieces of garlic bread. After feigning innocence he then ate the entire dish. We will definitely be back. While it is a little on the pricy side ($160+ for our party which included 3 glasses of wine plus waters), the portions were great sizes and our server (guy with dark hair and big puffy sideburns) did a great job taking care of us. My fiancé, his mother and myself came here for his birthday last month. Apparently she loves this place, but I didn't see the hype. We sat at a table right next to the door and it was freezing. The table felt a little cramped, as it didn't have much room between it and the window and table next to us. The service was sort of slow. We got the blue cheese chips appetizer which was yummy. But my main meal brings me to the 2-star rating. I ordered a chicken-something meal and it was not even cooked! After I couple bites I realized there was still some dark pink color to my chicken and quickly realized I was eating raw chicken breast! I immediately lost my appetite and put down my utensils. Luckily, they removed my meal from our bill. My future mother-in-law had made RSVPs on open table and specified it was my fiancé's birthday. But the waitress didn't know that until we told her. Whether this was the café's fault or Open Table's, I don't know, and I don't really care. He did end up with a nice (free) dessert though after we told her. I just had a superb dining experience at Brooklyn Cafe. It was pricing for lunch but well worth it if your looking for flavor, non greasy and natural ingredients! There crab cakes were all crab with no fillers, fresh (and I mean fresh) tomatoes with blue cheese and vinegarette was delicious. I ate every piece and hate tomatoes. I also tried the lobster brisque which was not too rich,a little thinner than usual, but great amounts of lump lobster with a hint of sherry! A must try! Can't wait to go back!!! read more

My wife and I have only been here once but it was really great! We had the gazpacho which hit the spot on a warm day, and I had the fish sandwich which was simply delicious! I met my friend here for dinner and it was just okay. Nothing special or exciting. When we arrived at around 6pm on a Wednesday the server asked us if we reservations and we said no and then she said they busy and we would have to wait. We both looked around and there was plenty and I mean plenty of empty tables. We ended up sitting on the patio and I order the pot roast and friend got the crab cakes. The pot roast came on plate that was full of juice. I thought the presentation was awkward and the server almost spilled the juice on me. The food was okay and the service was okay. For the price, I think I can find better food. read more

After reading all of the reviews I just had to try it. I very much wish it was worth it but I guess I set my expectations too high. The place is in a plaza so there's plenty of parking. There is also a decent patio but it overlooks a whole mess of a construction site, so not a nice view. Things ordered: App: smoked salmon - the portion is huge HOWEVER.. It's hot smoked and they don't specify it.. So you get a whole filet of smoked overcooked salmon with some bread toasts.. Not good. The manager came over to ask how everything was and we commented on the salmon. He took it away saying he'll "fix it" and brought the same dish right back to us saying it was cooked the way it was supposed to. I don't know about you but I've never had a dish returned to me after my comment and not even modified in the least bit. Main dish: crab cakes with a side of edamame salad. The cakes were decent, a bit too much mayo for my taste. The salad was excellent. Drinks: chambord manhattan - pretty good and large but they don't have a snifter to serve it in. If you have a full bar, shouldn't you have drink ware to accommodate it? Overall: Amy, our server, was the best part. With the construction and the roads closed all around it in addition to average food, I don't think I'd go out of my way to revisit. Which I sadly did this Monday. read more

This was my fiancé and I first time coming here. I must say that I am very impressed! I had Jack's Creole Chicken and Sausage with rice. It has a cream sauce that was absolutely amazing! My fiancé had the lobster bisque that came with a shot of sherry. It's was great as well. Our waitress Amy provided an excellent service. We finished the meal with some white chocolate bread pudding. We've frequented this place a couple of times. And yes, I agree with the previous fellow Yelper, it's a pleasant change from all the chain restaurants in this city. The staff is friendly and attentive. I was happy to also see it's more of an adult place; no little kids were screaming or hanging out which we seem to run into a lot. We're riddled with bad restaurant experiences but BC gave us hope that not all places are a complete waste of money or time. This is definitely a place of regulars. It seemed everyone at the bar knew each other and the bartender was nice enough to introduce us to everyone. I've ALWAYS loved their grilled artichoke. Oh my goodness, I could eat it everyday. We order it every time. They do such a great job with it. Last night at I had the chicken piccata. It was tough, so tough I had a hard time cutting it with a steak knife. My husband had the specia, Halibut which included Bree mashed potatoes... they were so good. We usually split a desert here but unfortunately they've decided to take the Bread Pudding off the menu. I was so disappointed. It has always been my favorite. We ordered banana fosters cheese cake. It was very tasty but I do miss the Bread Pudding. We'll definitely be back as we always are. After driving past this place multiple times a week since I moved to the area, I finally got a chance to try it out. And all I can say is that I am impressed. The service was great even though the restaurant was packed. The food was delicious. I highly recommend the grilled avocado and crab appetizer. My husband had the crab cakes and I had the short ribs. Delicious! We are now both huge fans and can understand why the parking lot is always full. We will definitely be back. It was a great way to start our date night. read more

Over the years, I been to Brooklyn Cafe for lunch and dinner. It's a worthy option in the area with indoor and outdoor seating in a small mall area in Sandy Springs. On a recent visit I had dinner with a girl friend while our hubbies took in a sporting event. The grilled artichokes are an appetizer ideal for sharing. A tad greasy but delicious. My friend loved the lobster bisque (her reason for suggesting the resto). While I tucked into the fig and walnut salad. Their fish tacos (I asked them substitute shrimp for fish) were also tasty - I'd get the sauce on the side next time as it overwhelmed the fish/tortilla. Their bar serves up a nice peach martini. The chocolate cake was large but nothing special. The menu includes something for everyone. Parking is easy. Our server was friendly and helpful in working with the chef on the requested substitution. We'll be back. read more

I've always passed by this place, but it's in a hidden shopping plaza so I never had the inkling to try it out until yesterday. I came here with a colleague and so glad we did. It's a charming little cafe that serves your typical soup, salad, sandwich items. I ordered the Monster Turkey sandwich on Ciabatta with fries (choice of fries, salad, veggie) and coworker got soup/salad combo of lobster bisque and house garden salad. My sandwich was delicious, they really pack on the meat in this and thus call it the "Monster". The bread was equally delicious. The ciabatta was just the right amount of hard/crispy on the outside and soft and chewy on the inside so it was easy to bite down without making me feel like i'm breaking off my teeth. I love the house dressing (balsamic) they put in the sandwich, it adds a tangy element! The fries were okay, i think they sprinkled some herbs on it which is a nice touch, but it was more on the chunky soft side and i prefer my fries crispy. Coworker really enjoyed the lobster bisque and it comes with a tiny glass of sherry where you have the option of pouring it in your soup, but she had a stressful day and took it as a shot instead! Salad was just your typical garden salad. The service is really on point and everyone is very friendly. I did notice most of the clientele were older females having a ladies lunch ^^ Will be making more visits in the future. read more

I went to Brooklyn Cafe on Saturday night and was extremely disappointed in my experience. It was a beautiful night in Atlanta and we were lucky to get a table for 4 out on the patio. Unfortunately that along with good company was the highlight of our night. The rest was pretty much a comedy of errors. It started with the wine list. As I was with 2 white wine drinkers, we decided to order a bottle of Sauvignon Blanc. After ordering, the waiter disappeared for quite a while and finally returned indicating they were our of our selection. No big deal - we picked another one. After a similar wait, he finally came back but had a different bottle entirely and told us they were also out of our 2nd choice. We agreed to the 3rd bottle but had to suggest they give it to us for the (lower) price of the previous selection. The food selection did not go any better. I wanted the Lobster Risotto which they were out of, they were also out of the special (it was only 8pm) and only had one remaining order of another entree 2 others wanted. They told us they couldn't prepare enough Risotto because they had a broken stove, so I'll cut them some slack this time. We finally made our selections and when the food arrived, 3 out of 4 were good, but I must say "nothing to write home about". Unfortunately the 4th entree, the Filet Mignon, which was ordered Medium came out well-done. So we sent it back only to have the replacement filet take forever to arrive, and when it did it was undercooked, borderline rare. So why did it take so long? Management did try to make it right by offering us free dessert. We ordered 2, 1 was complimentary (shouldn't they both have been?) Both were good and we were actually enjoying ourselves despite all the missteps on a such beautiful Saturday night, so it really didn't matter. Here's my advice to the management - please get your act together! This restaurant has been around a long time (by restaurant standards) and if you want to stay around, please pay more attention to stocking your wines and having enough food available. Unfortunately there are a lot of restaurants in the North Atlanta area, so it will likely be a long time before I take a chance on visiting here again. Sorry. read more

All right, so not quite five stars, but 4.7 rounds up! We had a grad dinner here last week - party of 7, including two kids. When we first arrived, I wondered that it was too uppity for young children, but they actually were very accommodating (plus it helped that the kids behaved themselves for the most part, hahaaa). We enjoyed our meal - shared the artichoke and potato chip appetizer, then between us all, we ordered steak, grilled chicken, shrimp tacos, and the crabcake salad...everything was mighty tasty. To top it off, we had the chocolate lava cake, which was aight, but oh-my-gootniss (yes, you read me right)! The key lime pie was diviiiiiiiiiine! Had lunch from here today & not impressed in the least, especially with the prices paid for the subpar food! My friend & I both got salads. I had the shrimp/avocado salad and I could've made better at home! Also tried the grilled artichoke and aside from a decent smoky flavor, & was barely any artichoke meet inside and not worth the money. Also had the carrot cake for dessert, the carrot cake was not impressive either, tasted a day or two old and had a slight lemon, pineapple taste to it. My friend & I were not impressed with any part of the meal for $50 worth of food! Will not be back to this restaurant. Only positive thing I have to offer is that the serving staff was very friendly & helpful with menu questions. read more
