So and done with it. This is a really chill vibe. The people who own this own the block so to speak, they own several other establishments there so you can easily traverse those since they're all somewhat connected by a courtyard. It's in Dunwoody and shopping center area so it's free parking so take that for what it's worth! There's plenty of seating, indoors and outdoors. Outdoors seating is really good because they have music on certain days and there's a screen there to watch advance on TV, and they actually throw other events and such in the courtyard as well. It's a fun place to be. Depending on what festival they're throwing, there could be very lively. Last time I was there I sat at the bar and the bar is pretty cool. It's about 15 or so seats available at the bar, it's pretty nice size. A lot of stuff that has been there has been friendly and accommodating. Bar and bites and message in a bottle. Brisket - The brisket was good. It had the right amount of fat and it was super tender to the touch. I would go and get just that actually. Really really good. Wings, lemon pepper - The wings are really good. They were pretty big and very meaty. They were season really well and you actually didn't even really need the ranch that came with them. Brussel sprouts - The brussel sprouts were pretty okay. They weren't seasoned like I would have expected brussel sprouts to be. And there and there wasn't like anything in them like bacon or onions or something like that. They were just okay. But I will say that they really did well when it came to dipping them and the sweet and spicy mustard that you get with the meal. Seasoned fries - The fries are really good. They come seasoned heavily, and they come in an odd corkscrew kind of shape. But this makes sure that the seasoning is all captured with the fries when they're served to you. Also, they go really good with the barbecue sauce that they give you. St. Louis style ribs - The ribs were okay, but not super tender. It felt like they had been there for a couple of minutes. They didn't come out really hot either so that was noticeable. Like you know how you can tell when the sauce wasn't freshly applied? It was kind of like that. Collard greens - so the collard greens really were okay but nothing special. They tasted like greens. They didn't have any extra heat to them or anything like that. Overall I would say this was a pretty good find. It's kind of tucked away so if you don't know about it then you won't know about it LOL. On one of those cool summer nights it'll be good to grab something to eat and walk around and go grab something from one of the other bars just to hang around in the area. It's a vibe. read more

I will start by saying that I'm a pescetarian and would not have picked such a meaty place on my own, although I do appreciate how many of their sides are vegetarian! I ordered the tuna melt, which I was super excited about but it was just okay. It did not compare to a diner tuna melt. It was so small for the price and nothing special. My side was mac and cheese on the recommendation of the waitress and while it tasted pretty good, the noodles were WAY overcooked and it was very salty. I tried my friend's broccoli casserole, and again it was good but too salty and the broccoli was so mushy. My friend really liked the mushiness, so that's definitely a personal preference. She said the brisket was so salty but tasted good. My other friend got the potato salad, and it lowkey looked like mashed potatoes. Again the potatoes were so overcooked that there were barely any chunks of potato. I will say it was pretty yummy! She got the pulled pork sandwich, which she said was fine and would get again. The waitress was super nice and attentive. We unfortunately sat near the pinball machines which was super loud. 2/3 of us would not go back. Came here with my family on a stormy Saturday, so the main part of the restaurant was relatively quiet, minus the patrons in the bar area. I wanted to sample as much as I could, so I ordered the pastrami sandwich (made it a Reuben) and the 3 meat platter with sides. My chosen destiny consisted of sliced brisket, pastrami rubbed turkey, burnt ends meatloaf, beans, brussel sprouts and cucumber salad. The pastrami sandwich was delicious and perfectly toasted. My only thought was that it could've had a bit more meat on it. For the platter, the winner of the 3 meats was definitely the brisket, followed closely by the turkey. I finished my meal off by sharing the banana pudding with my daughter (who loved every bite of it ). One cool touch to this place was the pinball machines and the chance to get on their leaderboard. Came here a number of times a year ago. Thought I'd try it again. I won't be back. Arrived around 7:10 and sat at the bar. They were out of my first choice of beer, but were ably able to provide me my 2nd choice. I got this beer around 7:14. Over the next 55 minutes, I watched as the two bartenders helped take care of everyone to both sides of me. I made eyecontact and waved several times and was thoroughly ignored. However, I would say the lean parts are a bit dry, but it still works out when eaten with the fattier part. Came here by accident looking for the seafood place. While walking up, my wife and I smelled the delicious aroma of smoked meats and said "I don't know what's making that smell, but THAT'S where we're eating!" Walking in we were greeted by a friendly server who was more than willing to share the best items on the menu. The Brunswick stew I would call more of a "take" on a Brunswick stew, but not at all in a bad way. It had a delicious and spicy tomato stew base but had large chunks of brisket instead of pork! Also swimming in the stew were barbecue beans and okra!!! and your usual standards. Top tier! The brisket sandwich was very good with smoked onions and green & red peppers with a queso cheese. Brisket was tender and not overly dry. Sandwich had muted flavors that allowed the brisket to shine. The meatloaf sandwich was the star tho. With a chipotle mayo and crispy onions on top of a layer of crispy pickles, it was a delight. Coupled with the Carolina gold BBQ sauce was over the top. The sides were tasty and the manager friendly as he came out to check to see how we liked it (he heard we were from out of town). Overall, it was just ok. Brisket had a nice smoke ring, but not a ton of flavor. Pulled pork was good, not great. Collards were good, but who serves greens with no hot vinegar sauce to put on them? Mac & Cheese was pretty flavorless. Burnt end special had a very heavily spiced sauce on it that didn't taste like any of the other sauces & it overpowered the meat. Seasoned fries were pretty good. Banana pudding was bland & im pretty sure i didn't see a single vanilla wafer in the whole plastic tub it came in. One of 3 entrees came & the other 2 didn't come out for at least another 10 min. Came here for dinner yesterday and loved it! They have two sections of the restaurant. One that was more typical restaurant service and part that was order at the counter type vibe. They have lots of delicious meats and sides to choose from. We got the half pound of pulled pork and then 3 sides to split between 2 people. It was more than enough food! I do tip for counter service when they bring it to me. That being said, I don't tip 20%. Call me cheap, I don't care. But the preset tips on the screen are 20, 22, and 25%. For counter service for food that isn't cheap. My salad (with meat) and an app was $35. To literally bring a plate to me is not worth $7-$9. It just isn't. So what I'm getting at is - do better. I love their smoked turkey breast, it has a flavor unlike any other I've tried, it's so good, their Mac and cheese is always fresh, and their pulled pork is flavored well and very tasty. What a hidden gem! Monty's is located near the Dunwoody village shopping center. You have to park and walk to the restaurant as it is located in the courtyard. Customer service 10/10. They let you sample anything you want to try and answered all questions. Our food came out fast and was delicious and they have plenty of barbecue sauces to choose from. We got the wings, potato salad, macaroni and cheese, cowboy beans and just a regular salad. Everything was great and the restaurant was very clean even the bathrooms! First timer today. This place rocks! The brisket is moist and incredibly tender and the pulled pork flavor and texture (not mushy!) is spot on. The wife loved the chili with just enough kick. When word gets out, that side of the Village is going to be crazy! The food isn't cheap but wasn't outrageous. Never had good bbq that didn't cost a few bucks more. Absolutely fan-freaking-tastic. I don't give out five star reviews lightly. Heck, I don't write ANY reviews that often anymore. (Sorry, y'all. It's not you, it's me. I just don't get out as much as I used to.) Anyway! We had the Pitmaster's Platter for 4. It comes with beef brisket, pulled pork, turkey breast, mac and cheese, cowboy beans, slaw, and pickles. We substituted the slaw for potato wedges. Portions were generous. We had plenty leftover to bring home with us. All the meats were super flavorful and moist, even the turkey breast, which can so often be dry and flavorless. The "pastrami rub" they use on their turkey fixes that. I loved everything. The mac and cheese and potato wedges were standard but good. The pickles were something special. I loved the pickled cucumbers as well as the pink-something-or-other that came alongside -- radish, perhaps? The cowboy beans were a solid hit with my husband and niece. I liked them, but they LOVED them. The sauces were excellent as well. Nothing *needed* sauce, which is the true sign of great BBQ. But they were yummy, and a nice accompaniment. My favorites were the house sauce and the mustardy Carolina-style sauce. Service was very attentive but not overbearing. Perfect, really. I'll be back. If, on the other hand, you think it can be found hidden off the main drag, off the parking lot in a courtyard in an upscale neighborhood shopping center, you would have found a barbecue restaurant that you'd never know, by its name is a barbecue restaurant. And one who could do a lot better with just a little effort. It may be just me, but Morty's Meat and Supply does exactly scream Barbecue. For example is there any question what they serve at, 'Cue Barbecue, Spice Right Rib House, City Barbecue, Brew and Que, Anna's Barbecue? all high profile Atlanta barbecue joints that compete for folks who really barbecue. As someone who has spent a lifetime in pursuit of the perfect barbecue (read more than 25 Yelp reviews covering barbecue joints from New York City to San Diego), the Brown Shoe Gourmet was pumped to discover that there was a barbecue joint (as are all places that sell 'cue are called) in his own neighborhood, and then disappointed to learn it had been there for three months and never knew. Yes, as a couple Yelp reviewers noted, their prices tend towards the high side. Yes, as a couple Yelp reviewers noted, no one is really sure just how much meat a quarter pound of meat really is until they see the dallop on the tray (where's the slice of bread that should come with it?). Why not offer your customers sandwiches with sides ( one or two depending upon their appetite and wallet ) or platters with more meat and two sides for more money? Morty's brisket, both times we've tried, has been on the dry side. Why? Because they either trim off that thin layer of fat that absorbs all the smoke flavor and/or they keep it under the warming light too long. Righteous Barbecue, offers its customers lean (for those who think they can eat healthy at a barbecue joint) or full flavor brisket. The pulled pork, on the other hand (the one without the watch) is good. Really good. Moist, with nice smoke flavor. The ribs were fair to middlin' - they have a rub that brought out a salt like flavor. MMS' smoked turkey pastrami rubbed was second to the pulled pork. Good flavor, and something a little different (more on different a couple inches down). Sides you ask? A bunch. Several exceptional. At the top of the list, something Morty calls Bubbie's corn pudding. Don't know the background for the name, do know it was severed in generous portion and tops Spiced Right's corn soufflé as the best in class. The fried potato wedges were also very good. Just right seasoning and good enough to make you forget counting calories. Their marinated cucumber salad was also pretty good, but not sure whoever came up with Brussel sprouts slaw, but I've not yet acquired a taste for it. Their NY deli potato salad offers nothing to really separate it from everyone else's, One of the too many unique things about Morty's is that they have two entrances. One door where you order at the cash register, the other door where you grab a table (in a manner of speaking) and a very friendly person will take you order. Menu and prices are the same regardless which door you choose. The sauces, five of them, are all on very big containers from which you can pour maybe an ounce into a tiny paper cup... so you and up making two trips just to figure out which one you like best before getting enough for your meal. (Hint: the mustard one is like most other Carolina mustard based sauces, and good on the pulled pork). The apple barbecue sauce is not too hot, their hot sauce is. Then there's the service: Fast, friendly and with answers to all your questions including why you have to get your sauce in those tiny cups (because people steal the bottles off the table). Well, maybe so - but having them there it would make eating there a bit more convenient and cut down on lines at the sauce dispensary as they have at City Barbecue. There's one other thing that may help explain why Morty skillfully avoided the word 'barbecue' in naming his barbecue joint (if any restaurant in upscale Dunwoody can be called a 'joint'), and that's because every day they have a special (trying to be all things to all people) that is not barbecue... from fried chicken on Sunday to Lasagna and Tacos and smoked salmon during the week. Morty's has a competitor almost just across the street, Porter's Brew n 'Cue and needs to step up his game if he's to be the best barbecue Dunwoody has to offer. Three stars. read more
