Red Onion Dog
Jasper H.

Craving NY style hot dog, this is the spot. They use Sabrett hot dogs and cooked to perfection. You get that iconic snap when you bite into their hot dogs. Also one of the only spots on the west coast where you can get the infamous pushcart / red onion sauce. They can be found by the courthouse during the week or in front of the Civic Theatre during performances.

No matter what your day is like inside the courthouse, make it a good ending with a Brooklyn dog. These guys were so friendly, and they even played the happy birthday song for me today. The Half red onion and Half Sauerkrat was delicious

Came to get a jumbo dog, wanted raw onions but they didn't have any. Hot dog had no flavor at all. It's like all the water diluted the flavor , would've rather had a Costco hot dog.

I've been intrigued to try this stand out. It's been outside of my work place recently and I figured I needed a quick lunch. The dogs were about $5 a pop. I had a regular dog and a chili dog with onions. I enjoyed my quick lunch and they had sodas for a buck fifty as well. If I need a quick lunch this is going to be the place.

I freaking love this market, Sat & Sun only, 10-4…read more What did I want to do for Mother's Day? Lane Field market! Walk along the Embarcadero & get a freeze on a hot day, stop by Chilanga's (the best booth there) & get my huitlacoche on. Live music, shade, delicious vendors, right across from the water. I did have a little detour from Chilanga's - while I was waiting for my spouse to park, I sat at a shady table with a woman who was telling me about the poke truck (Island Mike's) & explaining that her coworker ran it as a side hustle, and that the poke was delicious because he had lived in Hawaii. I agonized a bit - get my Chilanga's huitlacoche huarache - or try the poke? I eventually decided: it's Mother's Day, you can have ALL the things, just like at a buffet! So I went to Island Mike's first. They advertised Broke Da Mouth poke - and I was a little suspicious at first - cuz Island Mike's didn't look like a Hawaii native but a mainlander who spent some time there. BUT... I got my poke "island style" (furikake, sushi rice, and the poke - not lots of distractions like seaweed salad or ginger like in the "mainland style") - and it really was off the hook. Really fresh & delicious and perfectly made. YUM & YUM. $12 for one scoop (the smaller size) & very worth it. Of course I still needed my Chilanga's so then I got the huitlacoche huarache (a vegetarian taste of heaven - shredded lettuce, huitlacoche, Mexican cheese on a huarache (masa dough) & tried the mango passion fruit agua fresca. The huarache is huge and I'd already had the little poke, so I took most of it home to eat later. But it was just as yummy as I remembered. And the agua fresca is amazing. I'll still crave Chilanga's but now I'll crave Island Mike's too. I need to get down here more often because it is a super fun outing that is too good to waste on tourists!

There was live music and aa few food stalls. Good Eatz (filipino/hawaiian fusion) caught my eye mainly because they have a few Ube pastries (mochi, ube bar, etc). I first ordered the ube bar which passed the test so I went back to order the mochi. They also offer lumpia, spam musubi and chicken wing combo plates and pork dumplings.

Twice I got complimentary soup, twice did not. Maybe end of day is better in terms of what they give out. Sometimes there's condiments. Their outdoor eating area kind of changes too a bit sometimes. I get the OG taco usually and my gf gets the ceviche. Never had complaint although on most recent trip the ceviche seemed smaller portion. The taco was 5.99 each and fish seemed bigger than usual. I kind of suspect that as they close down they give bigger portions of what they have left. They had sold out of octopus and other menu items. Do try get there before 6:30pm cause they do start packing around 6:45 ish. Quality is good, tastes fresh. Tacos were filling for just $12. You're probably not supposed to but I often park in complex across street but street parking is easier. There's a $1 fee for credit so bring cash if that's a concern. Place is a go to for me and there isn't a crazy line like at other restaurants usually. Convenient, decent value, decent service, and good quality

The down side is you do have to ask for cheese on your tacos ( for example the Brigantine fish tacos include cheese), caution: the request will cost $2 per Taco Tuesday plate ,which includes 3 tacos for $9.99 with a small side of tortilla chips. Two Taco Tuesday plates of 3 tacos each and an additional side of Tortilla chips plus $2 for cheese on each plate x2 plates =$29, which we were a little taken back by the price, especially since it's a food truck and there is no service or places to sit, so it's sidewalk ambience.. they have sit down Restaurant prices If I am in the area again, I may try Kiko's Place again
