My husband and I frequent Brooklyn Fare because of the fantastic organic produce, and the amazing cheese selection. also I can find all sorts of whole grains and seeds, from hemp seeds to quinoa to chia. They lose a star because their delivery service is just awful. We have now tried 3 times, because we figured it would get better but everytime they bring us the wrong products or end up missing things. Even when we order online, and they call to clarify, we have had problems. hoping that their delivery service shapes up, but otherwise they are great! read more

I was thrilled upon moving to the city for the first time and finding such a great grocery store so close to home. I was initially pretty clueless when it came to navigating around to find the variety of groceries and more relieved than anything that I was able to nearly all the items that would shop for in one supermarket in the real world. The quality of the produce and meat is top notch, if slightly pricey. The large selection of other day to day grocery items in addition to tons of specialty food items is pretty hard to beat (from my limited experience in the city so far). The time saved from being able to get most of what I need on a weekly basis is obviously the biggest appeal for me. High quality along with wide selection...can't realistically expect anything more from a store in Manhattan. read more

This place reminds me of a boutique whole foods but with an ambience that resembles trader joes. I still prefer whole foods for the bigger selection, but BF seems to be the best grocery store I've found in the neighborhood. Prices are high for sure, but everything is very high quality. I've also had a sandwich from the deli section, and it was very tasty, would highly recommend it! Also, the scanning system is messed up. My salmon turned into "turkey" and several other items were mislabeled as well. The good thing is the prices aren't messed up, just the names. This problem should definitely be fixed as it can cause quite a bit of confusion. read more

People who work there are so nice. The first time I came here I was completely lost looking for the deli. There are staff members around willing and able to help you find the things you need. The woman who checked me out was also extremely nice. She noticed I looked like a new-by and asked if I wanted their store card. After spending $300 I get $10 back (FREE 3% back on my groceries!). There is also free delivery of groceries. I have only been here once but it is definitely going to be my go-to market in the area. It's a pricey place to shop and by lunch for sure. If you can afford it though, the deli is quite good. When I feel like splurging on lunch, this is the place I go. Roasted brussels sprouts...yes please. They have decent produce as well for the days when I watch the waist line and checkbook. I bought an apple, an orange, a plum and a nectarine for a total of $3.15. The only piece I tossed in the trash after a few bites was the plum. Plum had that hard/soft patchy thing going on inside. Some parts really good and juicy, other parts harder and unripe. Not a knock on the place, just saying I don't dig on fruit if it ain't choice. Apple hit the spot, nectarine not so bad either. Brooklyn Fare is one of the best things to happen to this neighborhood and a driving factor in my decision to stay in the area. Beforehand, I was forced - by default - to shop at Food Emporium (cue: dramatic, ominous music). Brooklyn Fare is by no means perfect. Their prices are sometimes inflated, the occasional fish/produce doesn't last as long as one would hope and I've purchased ice cream only to open the container and feel my smile drop upside-down at the sight of semi-defrosted,no longer creamy and frozen Haagen Daaz. That said, these risks are totally worth it. They have a vast selection of produce that is far superior to any competitor markets nearby, great essentials like high quality olive oil and truffled goodies and AMAZING pre-made food. My favorite is the veggie dinner plate of three sides and I alternate between the mushrooms (I swear they add crack - these 'shrooms are addictive!), haricot verts, kale salad, broccolini and the odd-salad, like avocado and black bean, which I had today - all for $10! Plus, their baked goodies are freaking epic. The chocolate almond croissant is one of my go-to cheat meals, and I look forward to it the three weeks in between each indulgence. They also have quite a selection of gourmet donuts, ranging from passion fruit and cacao nib to coconut and more. Very happy to have this market a block away and highly recommend it to anyone. Saw some items in their online flyer that I use on sale here. Redpack tomatoes 5 for $4 made my use of transportation worth it. Subway and 5 block walk later, NO Redpack Tomatoes AT ALL. A Hundred cans of Brooklyn fare brand and lots of every other brand. Some dairy items were about to expire where elsewhere sold there is a month or more leeway. Bait and switch?? disrespectful management? Trump Followers? My first and last time there. read more

What a cool little grocery store. I stopped in here on my way to the nearby MegaBus stop. I wanted to pick up some Brooklyn Local 1 to take home to my husband in DC. Brooklyn Brewery's website said that I could find it here, and find it I did. In fact, the nice guy working the deli counter helped me find two bottles that had yet to be placed in the refrigerator -- I wanted room temperature bottles of the Local 1 since I had to take them on a 5-hour busride immediately after purchasing them. There were lots of other cool goodies as well, including kombucha, a huge array of hummus, and a wide variety of chocolate. I also ended up purchasing a sandwich to eat on the bus. My cashier was friendly as she checked me out. Overall I was impressed, and I may stop in here again prior to another future busride. read more

My wife and I went there for dinner on New Year's eve. Not giving five star here is because it's a subpar Michelin 3-star restaurant. My cloth napkin is torn. First four seafood dishes are very salty. I had to drink 3 glasses of water to get my throat feel better. No palate cleanser between seafood and meal dishes. Inconsistent silver service practice with different servers. Explanation of dish lacks details which is quite important in French cuisine. It's a moment that guests can know and appreciate chef's cooking techniques. Servers repeat greeting to all guests making no special dining experience. If this is one star restaurant, it exceeded expectations. It meets two stars standard. But 3 stars, subpar tonight. Now the positives. Ingredients are the best in class. For $395 (tax included but gratuity isn't), you get $150 or more ingredients. Other than the first four very salty dishes, the meat dishes are great. Well balance flavors and good combination of ingredients, typical French. All four desserts are great. Silverware are made in France and paired well with each dish. Mocktail is reasonable priced. Bottom line: I would go elsewhere if I have to go to a 3 star restaurant. read more

This post is about the lunch. They got the freshest deli meats and sandwiches. The proscutto is one of the best i had. The grilled chicken is my go to as well. All Sandwiches come with free soda or chips. The hot foods are also worth trying. So far Ive only had the chicken meatballs myself. All of the sides look appetizing as well. You get one choice of meat and two sides. The only knock is that the portions are a little small if you're a guy. Overall this is a great lunch place if you're by the west side in the 30s because theres nothing over there. read more

Their deli department offers a wide variety of fresh food made from the freshest ingredients! Their sandwiches are good. Their sushi dept is soso as they are pre made and sitting in the cooler. Great selection of higher end groceries. Employees are always helpful! I usually get the meat box special (one meat and two sides) and heat it up at work so I can get out of there faster. Rating this completely based on Yelp definition of stars alone. It's A-OK. I can't say I'm a fan because I've only been here twice and both times I didn't actually get any groceries, just cooked food. The first was over a year ago, when I needed to grab a quick bite while in the middle of taking an exam at the Javits Center. The second was last night, when I came here and couldn't find anything to get for dinner except a pack of dumplings for $4.99. My grandmother would be ashamed that I shelled out $4.99 for 6 of the worst tasting dumplings I've ever had in my life. You think that's an exaggeration right? Nah. They were "buffalo chicken pot stickers" and they tasted bloody awful. That aside the prices of the groceries didn't seem too expensive and the staff was incredibly friendly...so that plops me at a dead average 3 stars. Eh. read more

this was my first time visiting this store. I was browsing through and i oversaw this woman being chewed out, like violently, over some condiments. It was the craziest thing i have ever seen. she had like a napkin and like 2 packs of something i couldn't make it out. Then when a manager came over, they proceeded to embarrass the customer even more. I didn't know it was that serious about small packets of condiments. I was really turned off by how the employees acted. I wish i knew the lady's name who initiated the argument with the customer, i would post it. She was very tan and Caucasian perhaps. Anyways, i hope the next time i visit if i do, there will not be any awkward scenes like that again. It turned my whole mood off. read more

Despite the price they have sales every day and if you shop the sales you can get a good deal on various items. This used to be my favorite grocery store despite the pricing errors and occasional hair in bakery items. That all changed tonight when I witnessed a bakery employee excoriate a customer over some condiments. This bakery employee felt the need to scream her lungs out because she saw a customer grab some ketchup packs on the way out: AFTER PAYING. The manager on duty did NOTHING to stop it- he seemed to side with the female employee. As a journalist, I'm used to having to record on a moment's notice, and I did! Cannot wait until the public sees the bakery employee's outburst! In the meantime, I'm not coming back and I'll make sure everyone in my building knows about this. read more

I can't comment on the quality of food, however, this evening around 7:15pm I was riding my bike down Nevins street near Union street in Brooklyn when a Brooklyn Fare delivery truck nearly ran me off the road. He then sped up to yell at ME and flick his cigarette at me. He continued to yell rude remarks about me and my appearance until I eventually turned off onto Union street. It may not be a marker of the quality of this company's product, but I will absolutely never purchase anything from them because of this incident. read more

I've been doing groceries at Brooklyn Fare at 37th Street for over 2 years now and I cannot say anything bad abouth this shop. It is not cheap, that's for sure and you can buy cheaper vegetables and fruit at Terra Market on 9 Avenue, but it is close, it's convenient and it has a huge variety of all things grocery. Whatever you like from veggies to meats to artisanal honey or beer. The staff is dedicated and helpful. And their loyalty programme is pretty good - 10$ off for every 200$ spent is OK. read more

Warning*****5 Star Alert!! I'm intentionally very stingy with my stars on reviews so when I dish out 5 stars, I hate to say it but the place deserves it. I had heard about Brooklyn Fare in BK of course but I live in Hell's Kitchen and was completely unaware that there was one 5 blocks away tucked on a street which basically has no foot traffic so this means you have a Whole Foods type store but cooler because it is smaller has more local products better pricing and far less people in the store, the only people that would come to this store is the people who live in the immediate surrounding neighborhood, that is both a pro and con for me, it's a pro because you get to take your time and roam around the store check out the organic and local fresh produce and not feel like your being rushed up and down the isles of the store like a bull run when your in Whole Foods or Trader Joes. It's con because it makes you feel like will they be able to survive in this location? They offer a wide range of organic and local produce, hard to find spices, key specialty products like Gluten free cake mixes etc. I even found a wide array of bitters for those pre-prohibition cocktails I'm learning to master at home. ;) I also came across Truffles and cheeses brought in from France, I'm telling you this store is amazing and with all the Manager Specials they have going on around the store it makes there price point better than Whole Foods so this is definitely my go to store from now on. read more

(Note: As of this writing, there are 2 complaints against Brooklyn Fare filed with the Better Business Bureau. Only one is resolved. Their overall grade there is F.) I used to shop here. Not anymore. First of all, it's very overpriced - but many other reviewers have already noted this. Second, they don't take responsibility for their product. Third, their store manager lacks basic understanding of customer service. I bought a carton of Pete & Gerry's USDA organic, "certified humane" eggs. I've bought this brand before at Whole Foods and never had a problem. Here, I cracked the first egg and it was ROTTEN! It spilled all over my kitchen, and I spent 1 hour cleaning up and throwing things away. The next morning I brought the remaining eggs to the store for a refund. The manager never apologized, but he did open the carton, smell an egg, and say that it smells rotten to him too. However, he also spent 10 minutes telling me that his responsibility is "only to check the expiration date -- that's it. Otherwise, how do I know if it's rotten or not? I don't make eggs." So, in summary, nothing you buy at this store that isn't made there is guaranteed any level of food safety or freshness. If you try to bring the items back, you will be interrupted, questioned as if you're a suspect criminal trying to get another carton for free, etc. Would you want to shop at a place that doesn't stand behind the food they sell? No thanks. It's Whole Foods & Trader Joe's for me from here forward. read more

Living in Hudson Yards has its pros and cons. Pros being that there is less foot traffic, but a big con is that you're far from many things. One of those things was a grocery store, until Brooklyn Fare decided to come and make a grand entrance. Located on 37th between 9th and 10th, Brooklyn Fare is literally the only organic supermarket around here, unless you travel to the Whole Foods on 24th and 7th. Well I should be incredibly happy right? I mean walking to Brooklyn Fare from my apartment literally takes 30 seconds. Even so, I kind of still prefer going to Whole Foods, even after factoring in the 20 minute walk. Brooklyn Fare is incredibly clean. The fruit and produce all look great, and there's not a blemish in sight. The aisles are neatly organized, and you can hardly see a speck of dirt throughout the store. The store itself is laid out into two halves. When you enter, you'll be where the fruit, produce, and frozen food are. Walk towards the back, and you'll find the dairy products. Now this location is set up like an upside down "U" so you kind of half to walk around to get to the other half of the store. There, you'll find the deli, coffee bar, and all other misc snacks. Selection-wise, Brooklyn Fare has tons of local brands, which is pretty amazing. However, since this location isn't particularly large, selection is a little limited if you're looking for something specific. What kind of is a bummer are the prices here. I swear that some prices here are even higher than Whole Foods, if not equal. I understand that organic produce is a little higher, but I should't be paying Whole Foods prices if I'm not shopping at Whole Foods. Stiles Farmers Market has fruit that's just as good, and its 25% of the price. Even with my gripe, Brooklyn Fare still does the trick from time to time. If I need something and I don't want to walk more than a minute, then this place sure comes in handy. Brooklyn Fare is clean and has the essentials, but I do wish I wasn't paying an arm and a leg for some of their items. Brooklyn Fare believes in three things: good foods at great prices offered up with outstanding service. However, I think their prices could be a little better. read more

Hi, I used to go to this location often. They have nice selection of foods. I always buy cheese from there, everything was good since last few weeks. I feel like this the worst place to buy cheese now. So many expired cheeses in the case and I also found excessive amount of mold when I open one of my cheese that I bought from there. I waited months and months for this supermarket to open, and when they did, I started shopping there almost every day. It is relatively expensive but initially, the quality of the food was great. Lately however, their produce has been getting less and less fresh. The last two bags of baby carrots I bought were already slimy when I opened them so I had to wash and cook them and could not eat them raw (they werent rotten, but no longer fresh). In addition, you have to REALLY WATCH OUT FOR THE PRICE SIGNS. They will offer say 50% off a certain type of yogurt or sauce, etc. BUT, they would put the sign in between the brand/type that is discounted to the one that is not. If you are not careful and read the tiny print on the price sign, you may end up picking up the one that is not on sale. This happened to me 3 times now but I would be too lazy to walk back to the section where I picked up the goods from. I love cheese. Unless you know the brand, I would not recommend buying. I have tried some of the ones that they cut and wrap and they tasted like plastic. Not good quality cheese (not expensive, but not good either). I do have to say that I am glad that the store opened and I dont have to walk to 42nd street anymore to get food. However, the things that I mentioned above are really starting to annoy me and last weekend, I grabbed a city bike to the Whole Foods in Columbus Circle and took a taxi back. Im sure I will be doing that more often, especially when it starts getting warmer. read more

Brooklyn Fare is my favorite grocery store in NY. The Midtown location is very small but I'm always impressed by their selection. Plus I'd say 70% of the employees seem to enjoy their job, which is always a plus. The only thing I don't like about Brooklyn Fare is their delivery service, which is actually a huge negative. I placed an order online and quickly realized a note I wanted to add to my order. I immediately called Brooklyn Fare and the person who answered the phone acted like he had never received a phone call regarding a delivery order. I didn't feel very confident with his assistance. My food was delivered very soon after that phone call, much to my surprise. When I looked at the food every bit of the frozen food was melted. Two cartons of ice cream and frozen dinners, all melted. My meats and cheeses arrived warm. I immediately emailed Brooklyn Fare to express my concern. Even if I couldn't get a refund on my melted, leaking ice cream I at least wanted them to be aware of the situation. No response was received whatsoever. I was very disappointed. A few days later I walked past a Brooklyn Fare delivery man on the street with a full cart of food, leaning against a wall, casually talking on his cell phone. Maybe that was how all of my food arrived melted, despite only living THREE blocks from the grocery store. My sad, full container of strawberries rotted just two days after delivery and I can only assume the delivery conditions didn't help. In addition to my concern with their delivery methods, the Brooklyn Fare website combines their store inventories. For example, I located on the website and added to my shopping cart a particular type of cheese. After my order was placed, I received multiple calls from Brooklyn Fare letting me know that that item was only available at the Brooklyn location, not the Midtown location I was using. Other inventories just weren't available at all. Approximately $100 worth of groceries were only available at the Brooklyn location, a problem I realized after a call from the person putting together my order. There's no option online to shop by store. You only input your zip code when shopping. I really hope Brooklyn Fare works out their delivery kinks. read more

In a neighborhood where there weren't many supermarkets several years ago Brooklyn Fare was an exciting place to shop. Since then they have the attitude that they can get away with whatever they want. The weekly brochure doesn't alway offer what is in stock (they claim with only 3 locations that all items are not available in all stores, a violation of NYC Consumer regulations) and they refuse to offer replacements. Checkout registers often do not have sale prices and one has to be careful to watch at all times. Catch a mistake and the attitude is the customer is always wrong. Jessie, the head cashier, acts as if she is in charge and leaves a customer waiting while she runs to confirm the sale prices. read more
