Was out in Buda for a few hours and came here for lunch. Did not expect to find such a gem here! We enjoyed walking down their Main Street and popping in some of the shops. I was impressed by their menu and would like to return to try some other options that caught my eye. Wanted a light lunch today so we split the crab cakes and had a cup of lobster bisque and gumbo. Pretty standard bar food with a hint of creole flavoring. There is no option for 3.5 stars, but if there was that would be my landing spot for a rating. The service is great, the staff was super attentive; they were regularly checking up on us and brought our food pretty quickly. I would say the food wasn't anything to write home about, it was pretty standard with some southern creole dishes (e.g gumbo, catfish, boudin, etc). I tried their Bayou burger - it was up to par with other bar burgers I've had, pretty messy to eat, one bite and the insides come sliding out, you know the deal. We also got the gumbo, fried catfish and the boudin balls. Again, things were good, just not the best we've had. The restaurant is located in Buda's town center, which is where there are lots of other restaurants. I decided to sit at the bar and was greeted by Logan, who took wonderful care of me. The menu has a vast selection of items that all sounded delicious. With Logans help I decided on the spinach dip for an appetizer, a cup of gumbo (which was spicy and extremely appetizing). For my main course I went with the salmon filet, a side of the spicy bacon brussels sprouts, and the Pontchartrain sauce. AND LET ME TELL YOU, I wanted to bathe in that sauce. Enjoyed the fried chicken and waffles at Brooklyns Down South for brunch today. The blue corn waffles look strange but taste good. Kind of like cornbread. It was lightly topped with a slightly sweet and spicy syrup that gave it a nice savory flavor. The fried chicken was good but not traditionally fried. It was well cooked all the way through but kind of fell off the bone. The coating had a shake n bake quality but was tasty. I think maybe they fry it partway and finish in the oven. My friend had hotcakes with bacon. She mentioned the bacon sort of tasted like the microwave kind but she enjoyed the pancakes. Over all a lovely brunch. I came into this establishment last Saturday with another party. We sat at a table near the window. We only came in for a night cap and some dessert. The chocolate dessert was absolutely decadent. My wife and I were looking for a new place to try tonight, so I got on Yelp! and found Brooklyn's Down South. We drove to Buda and we were not disappointed. We started with the fried green tomatoes. They were amazing. It was the first time I'd had fried green tomatoes with what seemed to be onion ring batter. My wife tried the Shrimp and Grits with andouille sausage. It was magnificent. It came highly recommended by our waitress, Liberty, who was awesome! She came to check on us multiple times and made sure we had everything we needed to enjoy our meal. I ordered the sandwich/soup combo with the classic burger and chicken and andouille gumbo. The margarita was not bad for $4. Dinner service has been disastrous for me every time we've gone. Bartenders aren't friendly. Casual dining spot-the left side of the restaurant has a bar with large TVs and the right side has booths and tables. Menu offers such things from alligators bites and crab cakes to burgers, sandwiches, and salad. We ordered the hush puppies (4 for $2) and split the meatloaf sandwich ($11). The meatloaf sandwich was pretty good , it had a hint of Bbq flavor, and not dry, Just needed a dipping sauce on the side. Our server suggested the remoulade sauce. Branching out and trying new Sunday brunch spots. Buda isn't too far south of Austin so we popped in hoping to be wowed. They were moderately busy but no wait. The young man at the host station grabbed 3 menus and set them down at a cramped booth right behind his station. I am slightly claustrophobic so I asked if we might be seated at any of the other 4 empty bench and chair seating in the immediate vicinity. He got visibly upset and huffy as he led us to another bench and chair combo. Rosie, our server came by for our drink orders. My husband and I ordered a French 75. Rosie asked us the ingredients and my husband recited them to her. Rosie said she would ask the bartender if she knew how to make them. She returned a short while later with two nicely presented cocktails. One sip and it was apparent the simple syrup had been omitted. Our meals arrived. Our bacon was nicely crisped as requested. My biscuit was covered in gravy, also as requested. My biscuit was hard and dry. My husband said that his pancakes had a great flavor but were hard on the outside and difficult to cut. The website needs to be updated as to pricing and they say meals are made to order. Pancakes and biscuits tend to dry out under a heat lamp. Our son enjoyed his meatloaf sandwich. The young man that came by to top off our coffee was friendly and polite. We wanted to love this place but I believe they have a few kinks to work out. My sister-in-law found this joint on the map when we were all craving some southern food. What an excellent pick! We had a short wait to get a table since we came at a busy time of the night and there were five of us. The staff were friendly and attentive; the waitress checked with the kitchen about their "gluten-lite" options on the menu (apparently it's meant to be gluten-free but there is the potential for accidental contamination, so depending on the severity of your allergy, you may choose to steer clear, but my dad was all good and got to enjoy grits-- he hasn't had 'em in a long while!). I wanted this place to be knock my socks off good!!! From the moment I walked in I was impressed with the music they were playing and the ambiance. I think if they turned the lights down just a little bit it could set a mood but I loved the music! We were greeted right away asked to wait a moment. It was not too busy we arrived around 8:30 and they closed at 10. Service started out a little slow. We ordered fried green tomatoes for an appetizer. These fried green tomatoes tasted more like fried pickles to me and the batter they used was very thick and they seemed to be slightly over cooked on the outside and undercooked on the inside. I was literally playing tug of war with each bite. Sadly it was husbands first time trying fried green tomatoes and he kept asking are they supposed to be this spicy, are they supposed to be this heavy. It almost seemed like they used the same batter as the hush puppies. The hush puppies had a good flavor on the inside but the outside tasted like they had been fried in old oil. They had a bit of an aftertaste too. My husbands food was very good. He had the grilled catfish, cheesy grits and sautéed spinach. I tasted everything on his plate and kind of regretted it because I liked his food way more than mine. I had the blackened snapper (Med spice), Mac and cheese and hush puppies. The snapper was pretty thick and it was dry. It had a lot of spices but it was bland. The Mac and cheese was edible. It reminded me of when my 8 year old daughter makes me max and cheese from the Velveeta box with the liquid cheese. The jalapeño corn bread was bland. I didn't like it. My husband said it was missing something. I think growing up in the south I was expecting Louisiana, Arkansas, Mississippi flavors. I had the improved old fashioned as it was recommended in one of the Yelp reviews I read. I think I'm going to stick to what I know because the old fashion seemed very sweet and almost syrupy. It had a very nice presentation. I drank as much as I could but I don't blame the bar tender I just think I'm not a fan brown liquor (bourbon). The bread pudding was good. The vibe has become sad and it's clear that the owners are trying to nickel and dime the customers.
