We called Brooks Oil to hook up our propane fireplace in our living room. The fireplace was in our home when we purchased it, but the fear of potential propane leaks, and not knowing how to run it properly, prompted us to call a professional. Our first appointment, for a technician to come and access the work needed, was rescheduled as "there were many emergency calls coming in of customers in the area without oil before the cold". After the assessment, the owner Mark told us that we could do the hook-up in two parts: the outside part of adding a regulator and connecting the propane line to the house line could be done at any time while we weren't home as that was all outside work. The inside part would need to take place at 3:30 so that myself or my husband was home from work. The secretary Karen called that same evening and we scheduled the work. Day one of the work came and went, and a technician never hooked up the regulator. I called the next morning to see if they were planning on just doing both parts on our second scheduled day. Karen said that she couldn't find us in the list of scheduled appointments, but assured me that someone would be there that evening. No one showed. The appointments were rescheduled after again calling Brooks and being told by Karen that she noticed our file on her desk and assumed the work had been completed, and had actually already sent us the bill for the work that never began. On the newly rescheduled Day one, a technician came and hooked up the regulator, but never connected the tank to the propane line and regulator as we were told would happen. On day two, the technician and the owner arrived two hours late. A half hour after my scheduled appointment I called Brooks, and was told by Karen "well we have you at the end of our work list for the day since we have to wait for you to get home from work". As far as I'm concerned, I scheduled an appointment for 3:30, and left work early to ensure that I would be home by that scheduled time. The technicians were there for a while, until determining that the regulator that they gave us and installed was faulty, and would need to come back the very next day. The next day came and went, and the technician didn't show. I again called Brooks, and was assured that a technician would come the next day. A technician did arrive and hooked everything up and turned the fireplace on, but still could not get the unit to run smoothly. Since we didn't have a manual on how to use the unit, he said he would follow up with his boss, and would have him contact me regarding proper use of the equipment, and would get us a manual based on the model. We didn't hear back from Brooks, until recently when I got a phone call at 8:15PM regarding payment for the services. I had to explain the situation to the woman on the phone, telling her that we didn't get a bill after the work had been completed. I was told that she would send out a bill "without the additional finance charges attached". A few days later we received two bills- one with finances charges for being 60 days late, and another without. Not once during this fiasco did anyone from Brooks apologize for the inconveniences that they caused my husband and me. This company is not professional, and I would not recommend them to anyone. read more
