Jan 2023 I attended an event here recently. It's been a while, but the club is as mediocre as it's ever been. There are beautiful views of the golf course from floor to ceiling windows, but the room itself is relatively generic and basic. The buffet was also basic and wasn't being kept up. I had a drink from the bar with a friendly bartender. The biggest problem? Lack of COVID-era hygiene. There were no hand sanitizers anywhere; especially needed at the buffet table where the serving pieces weren't being refreshed. The buffet just didn't feel safe in a triple-respiratory illness environment. I can't recommend Brookside, but I never could. Their prices must be a real value, because I don't consider them competitive in any other way. read more

The balls come over the fences occasionally near West Drive by the golf course. I have had three near misses, the ball whistling near my shoulder. My wife also experienced having a golf ball whiz past her, very near. There were at least two events in the past where someone was critically injured when a golf ball which was driven from the course struck them in the head. I enjoyed the Brookside Golf Club. Could it install a higher fence around their property, particularly along West Drive north of parking lot K. Maybe the city of Pasadena could pay for it. A tall screen was constructed some time ago near Salvia Canyon Road and West Drive. The way I see it: A protective barrier should be constructed along West Drive between parking lot K and W Washington Blvd. I don't see balls going west up Salvia Canyon Road. read more

I guess they have new owners? The staff is different and not friendly at all. I've been playing there since 1986 and always looked forward to it because it's a nice experience over all. This time, not so much. The pro shop is renovated and almost empty now. My friend and I walked in said "Hello!" with a friendly tone and smile only to be greeted with a gruff, no eye contact "Name?" Then in a commanding tone, "Come back at 2:50 to check in, we ONLY do 10 mins now." Seriously unfriendly and we both felt very unwelcome. That's a first at Brookside ever for me. The range was so backed up there was a line, never seen that ever there; or anywhere. I asked if we had any chance of getting on and was treated to joking comments about we will have to take our chances. So "buy the balls and good luck!" This is why I'm assuming American Golf sold the place. What an unwelcome change. The good news, the course was in good shape but no Marshall's moving play along. It was really slow. The restaurant staff were nice still but the bar was full of insanely loud drunks making it hard to even speak. A different place; a shame. Lastly, the lighting and decor in the restaurant used to be warm and comfortable; now it's like you're in a hospital. All white with really bright, poor quality lights. It was definitely NOT relaxing like it used to be. But again, the course was in nice shape and the round was fun. Since 2001, my three good buddies and I have gotten together once a year to shoot a round of golf for our annual Turkey Cup. Literally, it's a large glass cup with the word TURKEY emblazoned on it, set atop a trophy, and the winner's name is engraved upon it. Each year, we play at a different course; for 2017, we played the Nay course at Brookside. Yes friends, for a mere $60, you can enjoy a ride through a drought-forsaken golf course bisected by a massive concrete flood control channel and peppered with large swaths of avian feces left by no fewer than three species of waterfowl. There's nothing quite as satisfying as a chip shot from the fairway that stops short of the green because it landed in a spray of goose poop. Where's the ball washer? Lots of STUFF lying around on the course-- light arrays for Rose Bowl parking (did I mention they PARK CARS ON THE COURSE for Rose Bowl and events??? I'm sure that keeps things nice around here), machinery, trash in the bushes, superfluous amounts of leaf litter and tree trimmings sort of just thrown along the edges... cluttered looking. One could argue that if I play better, I wouldn't have seen all the stuff along the edges... Alas, I don't play that often or that well. A $60 course should be a little more forgiving in my opinion. I should not have to negotiate a tractor to play from the rough. We were a slow foursome, admittedly... lost balls and other rusty play made us offer to let the team behind us play through. They declined twice, but still whined like kindergarteners that we were playing slow. So much fun. The highlight of the round was the 10th hole green that would not hold a putt. No matter where it was hit, unless you sunk it, the ball rolled onto the fringe. If I wanted to play mini golf, I would have gone to Skandia. Even the Marshal said it was nonsense, and told us to take a two-putt score on the hole and play on. Playing lousy golf like I do, I'm not complaining about my poor game-- that's not the kind of thing I get upset about, and I don't like golf enough to waste entire Saturdays wandering around a park with 18 holes drilled in it. Still, I had an A-OK time playing golf with my buddies, which Mark Twain described as a "good walk spoiled." I guess what I mean is that even in our drought, I've played at cleaner, greener, and seldom-meaner places. Next year, we will. read more

We had a retirement party for 100 guests and it went so smoothly. The Brookside people all were exceptional! When arrived to see the set-up we were amazed at how beautiful it was and everything we asked for was there! What used to be a somewhat enjoyable course is now in terrible shape - fairways are uneven with patches of dirt, thick weeds, and gravel. The bunkers were rocky and had no sand. There was zero warning of punched greens online so imagine patron shock when arriving to check in and seeing a sign that they just punched. There's always a line for the driving range, so warming up is not an option. Yet with all of that crap going on, they still charge full price - $63 for WALKING. For these prices and conditions, it is definitely NOT worth it. Safe and sad to say that I will not be returning to this course. Brookside Golf Club is located on Rose Bowl in City of Pasadena. It is a beautiful and tranquil location. It is known to have wedding ceremonies, receptions, corporate events and private celebrations. I came on Saturday for a private event. It was my co-worker's retirement. The parking was confusing, but it was free. The exact lot for parking is Lot 1. I still had my camboot on so to walk so far to get to the venue was ridiculous. It was not friendly for people with disability Once I entered the venue, it was simple, clean, but nothing special or extraordinary. Staff(waiters, waitress, bartenders) were extremely attentive, however, the food were so horrible and bland. They served Lime Scented Yellow Basmati Rice, Fire Roasted Caribbean Chicken Breasts,, Grilled Tri Tip, and seasonal Vegetables. I can't even cook, but I think I could do better. Did we forget to put salt and seasoning. It was a buffet style, but there were plenty of left over. I did not see anyone going back for seconds. I would have given this a lower score, but the free alcohol did keep me happy and entertained. I also gave the staff extra star for being awesome. If you like slow play, you'll love Brookside Golf Club, especially the Koiner course. This is the only California public course I know that encourages and sets up FIVESOMES. Guaranteed five-and-a-half hour round for sure! The course is really a beat-up cow pasture, since it serves as a parking lot for the Rose Bowl and all the events at the Rose Bowl. I wouldn't play here again ever, knowing that all Brookside cares about is putting as many people as possible on the course to make money, to the detriment of all golfers dumb enough to play this course. read more

Played a golf tournament here today. The fairways were in good condition and the greens were short and fast. Getting on the greens was the easy part with ample fairways and few bunkers and trees in the way. The greens are undulated and sloped, and very challenging. Overall, great conditions given a hot and humid weather. Played a full 18 holes in about 4 hours. Great COVID-19 precautions in place and accurate technology in the carts to aid with distance. Previous reviews indicated cart path only, but today we had the carts on the fairway. Perhaps it might have been due to weather or watering of fairways. I would play this course again. Very reasonable for a round of golf with cart included. The driving range has few bays and can have a wait time, FYI. read more

I've gone to range several times and the course and range are closed due to events at the Rose Bowl. Which is fine, just wish they would post these somewhere, especially for members. Today, midday Sunday (2 pm) I went to range and the ball machine was closed. Someone finally asked when the balls would be replaced. They said it was closed Bc no one came in. Poorly run operation. Smalls hurdles that could easily be resolved with better (or any) decision making or planning. There were no ppl in line for the starters. One of the folks could've rounded up balls. The person cleaning the golf carts was another option. Analysis- all is well if nothing goes wrong- apart from the crowded 5 hr 5-somes. Incompetent. The location gets so much traffic, they don't need to think. read more

Stay away from this courses for the time being. Fairway condition is worst I've ever seen. It used to be a really good course until it became many concert venues this year and parking lot for the Rose bowl. next to rose bowl stadium...36 holes....a longer 18-hole c.w. koiner course...a short 18-hole e.o. nay course....playing the longer koiner course for $252 ($63 per person) for a foursome with 2 carts to share on a weekend...no discount for rain and no cancellation...they charge full price...gps enabled carts with maps and distance...when staying on the cart path is required, they really mean it...cart will stop and only reverse available to get back on the path...course was in decent condition on december 2021...challenging sloping greens and deep sand bunkers...wide fairways, but with many obstacles...no marshalls to keep order, so play can be slow and painfully difficult when behind players with no care...some frustration, but taking things really slow...practicing hitting some driving range balls back near the range nets to pass time... read more

This was such an incredibly disappointing experience. Before I say anything else. Keep in mind that we payed $80 each for this course. The fairways were in horrible condition. The fairways were 1/3 dirt patches. On top of this 15/18 holes were cart path only so we paid for a cart to not even be able to drive it on the horrible course. On top of that, while we were on the cart path. The cart would constantly tell us that we needed to return to the cart path and would lock the cart while we were on the cart path. If this isn't enough there were people working ON THE GREEN while we were hitting our shots toward the green. There was not a single ball cleaner. On the whole course. I have been to a $20 course that has ball cleaners on every hole. And if all of this wasn't enough; since this course is next to the rose bowl, they allow cars to park on the course for the rose bowl!!! That is unbelievable!!!! We are not even allowed to drive our carts on the course but they allow cars onto the course! This was an experience I wouldn't recommend to anyone. Do not go here just to waste $80. read more

So play here alllllllll the time but it's gone to far. Sure concerts sure football sure what ever else to make that dime . But when you charge full price for a course that weaves around between 2 courses to satisfy your needs to park concert goers and then have par 3 with no green and car tire tracks . After a long pause from golf, I took a lesson today with Tim as I want to get back into my initial obsession with the range and hitting balls- my form of meditation. Tim was extremely patient and very informative (he's a pro so I didn't expect less) I appreciated his attention to detail and not glossing over the basic fundamental "rules" of golf (posture, stance, follow through etc) By the end of the lesson it was beginning to feel organic again. Looking forward to more lessons and practicing at their range. read more

The golf course is cart path only! It's actually really painful to deal with and the golf carts will lock up if you take it off the cart path. The greens and course condition are just ok. It really shouldn't be cart path only. It's not a bad course but it's definitely on the more pricey side for what it is. read more

If I could leave half a star for this shit_hole that would be too high of a score, hands down Brookside Nay is in the worst condition of any course I've ever played in Los Angeles over the past 10 years ...And they had the nerve to charge $64/rd WITHOUT warning that none of those dollars go towards upkeep. The entire fairway for hole 1 was under repair, so you get to play out of the rough -which was clumps of mud. I recently played here and booked a tee time for a Foursome. Unfortunately, one of our players had to back out due to Covid. Not only did I still get charged for the cancellation, but they paired us up with a single anyways. Obviously this company cares more about profits than the health and safety of everyone else. Golf course review + restaurant review, 2 parts! GOLF COURSE REVIEW: Course 1 is longer and more challenging than course 2. I like both courses, I like Brookside golf in general MINUS the high green fees. Pasadena residents use to get a big cut off the green fees, now you can find some affordable tee times off golfnow.com or some other golf tee time website. Do play both courses when the UCLA Bruins football is OFF SEASON...the fairways are much nicer and green when Brookside doesn't have football fans parking on the fairways throughout Brookside course 1 and 2. Do check out the nice scenery around the golf course...especially outside the golf course fences (you guys will know what I mean if you've played Brookside on the weekends with the new views). RESTAURANT REVIEW: If I could give the restaurant 5 stars, I would definitely do. Brookside's restaurant has probably the best Monte Cristo sandwiches (next to Andersen's Split Pea). I've eaten at the restaurant for years now (usually after practicing at the range or playing 18). Their appetizers are also muy delish! Chili cheese tots, buffalo wings, fries, onion rings, etc. Oh so good! Come for the golf (if you find a good deal on a tee time), come for the delish foods inside the restaurant, don't hit your golf ball into the flood wash! 5-some tee times available for play here. read more

First hole is basically a dirt parking lot. It gets better but pace of play is real slow.

The course has never looked so nice before. Great looking greens. The attention to detail exceeds expectations. In my opinion, Brookside is currently a better course than Industry Hills Golf. read more

Came here for Arroyo Seco Weekend Music Festival. If you take Uber like we did it drops you off on outside lawn about 300 yards from front gate. The festival was a blast. I can't say too much about the golf club as it's mainly just neat cut lawns and some trees not much shade and it was scorching hot this weekend. Once the sun got on other side of mountain about 5:00 it did cool down. Lots of food trucks and drinks and of course live music. This was the inaugural year and we will be back next year hope you guys can make it. read more

Brookside's recent decision to change their range balls to "LF" Limited Flight is awful. Golfers go to the range to work on their skills and distance control and knowledge is vital. These balls are junk. Like hitting stones on a range. Brookside management please pivot, reverse your decision and provide true value to your customer base. If you don't I and many others will simply decide to go where we can hit balls that somewhat resemble golf. Extremely dissatisfied and disappointed. read more

OH WOW!!! What happened to this golf course?!?! Under new management perhaps? I don't know exactly what happened or if it was just this past Saturday but the course conditions improved greatly. Most importantly, our pace of play was AMAZING!!! My 3 buddies and i were able to finish the round in less than 5 hours on Saturday morning at 10:30 am! Crazy i know! To top it all off, they upgraded their golf carts with comfortable seats and GPS! The bar/restaurant is probably one of the best out of all the public golf courses. There's always this little grill outside by the 1st tee box on Course #1 where they have the most amazing cheeseburgers and hotdogs! I always see the same very nice Hispanic gentleman who always seems to be loving his job and is always so very wonderful! Not to mention he grills the meanest cheeseburgers and hotdogs! Solid 4 stars but added a star for the Hispanic gentleman at the grill by the 1st tee box of Course 1! Keep up the good work Brookside! read more

It was late in the afternoon and I noticed an older Asian couple who had nearly crashed into me in the parking lot jump out of their car snd proceed to start playing without checking in or paying. I told the young man in the sign in booth to tell them to pay. He drives the cart over and talks to them. He returns and says it's not worth my time to argue with people who want to play 6 holes and not pay. I noticed several other Asian women who showed up and did the same thing. No registration or payment. Now I know. Just show up late snd get free golf. The guy in the booth was very rude. He threatened me and said, "Do you have a problem with that?" Zero stars, never going back. - Made a Sunday tee time...no where did it say more than half the course was closed down to be used as parking for a Rose Bowl event. - Thought I was getting a good deal on GolfZing and now I know why. We were to be lumped in a public shotgun start, with 8 players at each hole (an A and B group). - We only got to play Holes 1,2,3,4,5,6,7,8,11 due to the parking sold to the Rose Bowl...the clubhouse "claimed" to have "tried to call everyone" but every single person there said they did not get a phone call. What a load of crap. - The holes we got to play were in terrible shape. Poor fairways, pocked and beat up greens, areas yellow-taped off to route golf carts here and there...just a waste of time and money. - It was an hour + drive to Pasadena for my friends and I and if we had not taken the drive up there, we would have just gone elsewhere. - GolfZing refused to refund the reservation fee though the course info was completely misleading. Will prob not use them again either. - The facilities are old, smelly, and the clubhouse coffee was terrible as well...not good...not good at all. - The area is nice up there in Pasadena, but the course could be better, events and golf could be mixed together better, and the entire morning was a HUGE debacle. We bailed out after 9 holes and didn't care to play the same 9 again. Very, very, very disappointing golf experience and I will not go back there, under any circumstances. read more

Plan your golf dates here carefully because you may run into some traffic since the Rose Bowl is literally next door. So if the Bruins are playing or if there's some sort of event like the monthly flea market going on the day you booked yourself to play at Brookside, you may want to leave a little earlier. Brookside has two courses: #1 Koiner - Legend (the harder of the two) and #2 Nay. Usually there's a small price difference between the two but not by much. You may use Golfnow.com or Golfzing.com to make your tee time reservations. We chose to go with Golfnow because it actually tells you which course you're booking with while Golfzing just lists it at "Brookside" in general. For a Friday 10am tee time on the #2 Nay course, it was about $50 to play with cart. Overall, I have played the Nay side more then the Koiner. The Nay is shorter in total yardage and the rating is also lower. There are no water hazards but a decent of bunkers that are stuck right next to the green. Most holes are pretty straight forward so it's a little more amateur friendly. There is a big ravine that runs through the middle of the course so at times you may unwillingly and unhappily shank one in. The greens are well maintained and never too fast. The nice thing on this particular day and I don't recall in the past was that they had a guy drive around the course offering fresh, cold, and free water. He also didn't mind us refilling our empty water bottles from his big Gatorade style cooler. Maybe they did this because it's been extremely hot lately. Right when you cross the street to the back 9, there's a little snack shack next to the par 3. Also, we never saw the beverage cart lady. The only time we saw her was when we returned our cart at the end of the day. I think she was busy with the other course on this day. Brookside has always been a fun place to play for me. The Nay course isn't too challenging yet the fairways are sometimes narrow enough to make it difficult at times. They do allow 5somes here so expect a full day of 18 holes. There's a driving range and two small putting greens to practice. The pro shop has plenty of stuff and I hear the food at the restaurant is pretty legit. read more

Two great golf courses, 1 overbooked location... the majestic views of the San Gabriel mountains in the background seem to draw many golfers to these two courses. And I am one of them. Course 1 is a bit longer, is pretty forgiving (as far as trees go) and the greens aren't as crazy as course 2. Course 2 is shorter, BUT, the greens are a challenge. I love both courses and like most human beings have had good and bad days at both ;) I HATE the 5 somes, but, it is a part of this course and no one can change it. So deal with it ;) Either way, you're getting a round in between 4-5 hours. It's an f'd day if it's more than 5. For that reason, I don't golf on weekends. read more

The Korean guy who checks you in at the front has to be the rudest person I know at Brookside. Treated me as if I was a criminal when I gave him my American Golf membership card saying that he needs to see my I.D. and that a lot of people use other people's memberships. All the American Golf courses I've been to, I've never been asked for my I.D. but I totally understand and I'm always willing to cooperate but the reason why I say that he treated me like a criminal is because the tone of his voice and the way he kept giving me attitude like it was me that was trying to cheat him every time. If it wasn't for the starter, marshalls, and the other staff, Brookside would've gotten a one star for the sheriff that works in the front counter. And because of his nasty attitude, my golf game suffered that day. Thank you Sheriff Korean guy in the front. (I'm Korean too...) Course is fun, can be slow at times, most of the staff are friendly and helpful (except for you know who). read more

One of my clubs spent $$$ to hold an outdoor event here with the promise of lush greens. However, on the day of the event, everything was dead - grass was dead, trees were dead, the cockroach I stepped on inside the clubhouse was dead, and general morale was dead. Not only that, midway through our event, the sprinklers came on, which not only soaked some guests, but also had the potential to ruin $130K in electrical equipment. The management, admitting fault, said they'd make things right. We took them on their word. However, a month after the event, they delivered a message indicating that they were just kidding..... yea. read more

Greens are hard as concrete, pace of play is ridiculously slow, and pin placements are near illegal. If you do not care about these three issues, then this course is great for you. I will not be playing it again. Many other nicer courses closer to me. read more
