I ordered take out yesterday & was told it would take 15 minutes. My group of 4 adults & 4 teenagers decided that the adults would be outside/walking in the area/strip mall. We notified the cashier who took the order. The teens stayed & sat at a table. Came back this Sunday for a family brunch, and this visit definitely deserves 5 stars. In the past, service could be a bit slow due to being short-staffed, but this weekend was a complete turnaround. They had plenty of staff, dishes were cleared immediately, and water and tea refills were constant, something dim sum lovers know isn't always guaranteed. Now the food: just as good as I remembered. For a family of five, I may have gone a little overboard and ordered 11 dishes, from har gow and siu mai to rice rolls. Everything was fresh, delicious, and came out in under 10 minutes. Driving through Cherry Hill around lunchtime and decided to give Brother Seafood Restaurant a try for their dim sum. The beef short ribs and the two rice roll dishes were pretty good. The sticky rice in lotus leaves was decent; but the shrimp dumplings were not up to standard. For a dimsum place in a plaza, this place certainly defied my expectations. Our table of 7 ordered a huge selection of dishes for a birthday celebration, and everything we ordered was delectable. Based on my experience from another dim sum place that shall not be named, I thought it'd take a long while for us to get our dishes. To my surprise, food came out pretty quickly and everything was on point taste-wise. Some of my faves were the fried shrimp balls, salt & pepper calamari, bbq pork buns, and fried dough rice roll. Not a lot of vegan or vegetarian options, but that's normal for dim sum. Duck was good but I wish they had the thin wrappers instead of the buns. We ordered some of the classics, including pork and crab dim sum, salted baked shrimp, a noodle dish, and General Tso's chicken. While the presentation was nice and the portions fair, the flavors didn't quite meet expectations this time. Some of the dishes tasted different from previous visits particularly the shrimp and the General Tso's was a bit underwhelming, with a sauce that didn't quite hit the mark and chicken that lacked the usual crispiness. There is a convenient dim sum menu with photos where you can check the boxes next to the items and then hand to the server who takes your order sheet to fill. The dishes come out as they are prepared, but they arrive swiftly and piping hot. We ordered: shrimp dumpling, pork shiu mai, shrimp shiu mai, chicken feet in black bean sauce, beef short ribs in black pepper sauce, Shanghai pork and crabmeat juicy bun, cream custard bun, roast pork bun, crispy egg tart, stuffed hot pepper, pan fried turnip cake, salt pepper white fish, fried quail, pork rice roll, shrimp rice roll, pork and thousand year egg congee, cold cucumber, Chinese broccoli, mango pudding and a couple of dishes off of the menu which is also extensive. Service was excellent and initially we were sat at a small table for four, but after we ordered; they moved us to a large round table with a lazy Susan in the center which made for a great eating experience. My husband and I ordered 7 different dim sum options. The soup pork dumplings were very slimmy. I know that sounds weird but my husband described it the same way. Fried dumplings were just okay. Pork buns were greasy and the dough texture off. The shrimp dough rolls were way too thick and fried wonton I would not even try due to how greasy they were. I previously gave them a great review but I am sorry to say I have to modify it. I ordered take out. I saw the total $39.98 and I signed it. It was not until after I left when I looked at by receipt to see that the cashier circled 20% tip for take out. I asked for paper plates. Someone went to the back and brought out one foam plate and 2 paper plates. Then I noticed the foam plate had bite marks on the edge as though it was chewed on and the paper plates had specks of dirt. I went back in and said quietly that the plates looked chewed upon. He said don't use that one. I said I don't want to use any of these plates and I got a slight eye roll. I asked for take out containers to use as plates. Tried Dim Sum in South Jersey for the first time and it was good (comparable to Dim Sum in Chinatown, Philly). They had all of the varieties of Dim Sum available such as Shrimp rice roll (which is my all time favorite), chicken feet (my husband's favorite), tripe, fried shrimp ball. Service was fast (but we were there mid day on a Friday so we were seated immediately). Staff was friendly. Prices were comparable to other Dim Sum places (considering inflation and all). I usually tip a few dollars for takeout but to pre circle and charge 20% on any takeout is absurd. Adding on top of this my mom discreetly and respectfully went into the restaurant to let them know one of the one styrofoam plate had chewed up marks in the corner (looks like rats) and he said he gave us other paper plates to use too - which were dirty to begin with. He rolled his eyes at her and she asked for takeout out boxes and he reluctantly handed her some styrofoam boxes. Talk about terrible service and attitude. Custard bun has a bit too much dough and not runny because it was cold. Chicken feet, spare ribs, and shui mei were also cold. It would've tasted better if they were hot. Stuffed eggplant - came out fresh and tasted good. But sooo oily. Crueller wrapped in rice noodle - the dough was still crispy and warm. My family & I crossed the bridge from Philly to come here bc my brother claims that this place has good dim sum and really wanted me to try it during my visit. It is located in a shopping plaza next to a huge Asian supermarket with ample parking. The restaurant is really spacious, there are no push carts here but instead you check off what you want on the menu paper. We got here around 10:30 am, 30 minutes after they opened on a Sunday. All the food came out relatively quick even though it's supposed to be "made to order". It was more like "pre-made", the food was cold and the buns were hard when they brought it out. My mom suspects it was probably from last night. Most of the the dim sum dishes were bland, some were OK, service was bad and the pricing seems more expensive than Philly and NY, how is that possible? The bill was almost $200 for the 4 of us. Wow, this place is quite delicious. May be my go to spot when I visit NJ. Everything came out steaming hot and very flavorful. They have a full Chinese menu and they also give you a sheet with a pen to mark what you like for the dim sum side. So, no standard push carts here, which is ok with me as I feel it's a lil fresher doing it this way. We ordered a bunch of stuff from the dim sum side. The one item I may skip next time is the beef short rib. Although it was flavorful, it was way too fatty for my liking and a bit too chewy. I couldn't bite through. Lastly, I was searching for tendon, but I couldn't seem to find it. As for menu side, we only got 2 things as I knew we overdid it on dim sum. Beef chow fun with gravy was yummy. I spoke Cantonese with a staff person who told me that the cooks are from Center City Chinatown who commuted to work there. We ordered har gau 虾饺, siu mai 烧卖, shrimp in rice rolls 虾肠, beef meat balls 牛肉丸, and Shanghai-style soup dumplings 小笼包. They tasted from good to very good. I'll go back again to have dinner there. We decided to give this place a try after watching a vlog on YouTube. We were excited to find out that there was dim sum being served in South Jersey and didn't have to go into NYC or Philadelphia. We were immediately seated after arriving. The restaurant is the size of a small ballroom, with fancy decor that's reminiscent of a banquet hall. There are square and round tables that are available for seating and most of the chairs have red seat coverings with big golden bows on the backs. Both table types have pink and white tablecloths, but only the round ones have glass lazy Susans. A golden dragon and golden bird are mounted on the wall nearest the round tables and an ordering counter and fish tank display can be seen in the very back. I'm pretty sure they hold wedding receptions here on weekends. We ordered the following: Jumbo prawn steamed with garlic and cellophane noodles- it was a little overcooked, but a great concept. Hubs said it gave him ideas on what to cook at home. Daughter thought it was a pretty dish but thought the shrimp should have been bigger. The head was bigger than the rest of the body, so there wasn't much shrimp to eat. Mixed mushroom dumplings- this was surprisingly good and had lots of mushroom flavor. Daughter and I thought it was a little cool on the inside but it was still tasty. Pan fried chives dumplings- this was pretty good, but average. Stuffed hot peppers- hubs liked it and missed it but said there was nothing special about it. Coriander rice rolls- awesome . Flour was thin but cooked all the way through and cilantro was awesome. This is my favorite dish and I haven't had it for a long time. Didn't realize how much I missed it. Beef rice rolls- daughter liked it and thought it was a classic dim sum staple. I really do enjoy this place and love having a place like it so much closer to me than chinatown. Brings me back to the days when I was kid and used to go to Joy tsin lau with my Lolo and family for special family events and celebratory gatherings. I've tried them throughout the years on several occasions to see if my opinion or palate has changed and it's been a fail everytime. Except..for this time!? I had a chicken foot. One, but it was prepared so well, I didn't mind eating it. Texture is usu the issue and this was prepared so well and soft; nice job! Snails, take it or leave it bc the ROI just isn't worth my appetite..but the sauce was excellent. The pig feet, like the chicken feet, do not look appetizing but this was cooked w oysters so that was a nice switch up for me and it was pretty good! Now, I don't know if it's cause I'm older now and give less Effs or I'm broadening my horizons even more but, decent work on them! Could have been softer as the fat and skin was a little too chewy and gelatinous but I'm sure that's an easy fix. Little more time in the pot and I would have been all over them. Service is also excellent ... as they promptly refilled our ice waters and took empty plates very quickly. The bad ... only the price tag.
