Incident date: 5/20/2025 Vehicle: 2017 Fiat 124 Spider (for sale, showroom condition) Brothers Welding sent José to quote a railing extension. He parked about an inch from my car. I twice offered to move the car; he insisted for me not to worry, and that he would not hit my car. As he left, his car rolled straight into my rear bumper. José initially denied it until I pointed to the camera that I had in the front of my house, then phoned his boss Yesenia, who then told me that the car had no insurance but promised to "make this right." Repair quotes - * Caliber Collision: $1,200-$1,600 (+ sensor calibration) * ACR Collision (written): $3,409 Offers & silence - Yesenia offered $675, then $800. I accepted if she could name a reputable shop willing to repair the bumper for that price. She could not. I later asked for $1,200 (still below both estimates) and then after a few days, I agreed to settle for their original $800 just to be done. No response since 5/28. My insurance deductible is $1,000, so even going through my insurance, I would be out of pocket $200 for Jose hitting my car. The whole experience was surreal -- especially with how many times I made sure Jose knew that we needed to prevent hitting my car, and me offering to move my car 2 times because of how close he parked. Two weeks later I'm left with a damaged bumper and no payment. I'm now filing in small-claims court for the full repair cost. The lock in one of our exterior doors broke and it was more complicated than just replacing it because there was welding that needed to be done since the handyman that helped us before had done a terrible job. Re the person, Jose was paid in full just hours after he completed both railings ( one for the front steps & the other railing a few feet away that led down a steep slope to the garage. ) I couldn't review his garage railing work since I'm temporarily disabled with a big metal split on my leg . Anyway, the next day I saw that the railing to the garage. Though it looked good & felt secure, I had concerns how it was bolted to the house & there was black spray paint on the white wall. We called Jose late on a Friday afternoon for an odd job that required cutting rusted automotive parts--torsion bars were seized in crossmember and lower control arms.
