I love the food, but am put off by the sour-faced staff. I don't require obsequiousness, but it would be nice if the employees greeted you when you entered, acted like they're happy to take your order, and made the least little bit of effort to please the customer. Instead, their attitude is flat, like they're doing you a favor by talking to them. Also note: there is no customer restroom, so plan accordingly. read more

They need a lesson from the Duke of Perth on making fish and chips, the fries were so bad I could not eat them, think they were instant potatoes made to look like fries and then deep fried and the taste turned my stomach. It's a blessing and a curse to live and work in a neighborhood that is so close to many eateries. Shamelessly, today was the third day in a row of getting the Curry Fish Cakes with greens and grains - very delicious and well cooked! I came in because I wanted to try something different and with Aaron's recommendation, it brought be back in the next day. Others' recommendations don't typically turn out for me, but I was pleasantly surprised :) I also had the Buffalo bleu tator tots and gingerade for a drink, which is a mix of lemonade, ginger, and I believe club soda - perfect for the summer! I asked for the extra protein so had more of the fish which I was very satisfied with. It was tasty, fast and value for money. Disappointing and not worth it. I was charged $34 for the lobster roll which is priced for $26 on its menu. The staff explained the surcharge was due to "lobster shortage". No signs, no reminder, no warning. They just hope the customers don't notice this surcharge, and they apologized only when they got caught and confronted. Incredibly inappropriate and deceiving to the customers. I am not even sure if this is legal to do so. Many things were not set up in the restaurant-- they sell chowder but they don't put out the spoons; there is no water bar either. The food was honestly mediocre -- tatter totes were cold and watery, the lobster roll doesn't have much taste, and the buns were too soaked and it broke apart very quickly. A friend and I visited Brown Bag Seafood in Division yesterday. We were immediately greeted by everybody on staff. Gary went out of his way to show us the menu and how everything worked. He was exceptionally friendly and charismatic and his recommendations were on point. The food was excellent as well, especially the Lobster role and Parmesan tots. We weren't fans of the cole slaw but it did not affect our experience. The ambiance was cute and the place was very clean as well. Anyway, I never write reviews but it was so nice to walk into an establishment and feel like the staff actually wanted you to be their. It really does make a huge difference. Gary really made our day. He deserves a huge raise. read more

Went in for lunch yesterday and was blown away by the taste, quality, and service here! We got a bowl of clam chowder - delicious and creamy with lots of chunks of clam - and curry fish cakes on a veggie box base. The curry fish cakes were pan fried really well and the flavor was better than I've had at high end restaurants. The veggies were nicely cooked and bright. After the meal I felt full but not overly so - the perfect way to feel after lunch in my opinion. Staff was friendly and helpful too. Highly recommend!! read more

Yes, the food is great (perfectly cooked, seasoned well, and fresh ingredients) but the true star of this location is the service! I had a better dining experience here than at many fine dining restaurants I've gone to in Chicago. The four employees that were working when I had dinner there tonight really owned their roles. All were extremely friendly and were super customer-focused. Two stories, just from tonight, that I think exemplify this. First, when I was waiting for my food, two women behind me had questions on food allergies. The cook came out from behind the grill (there were no orders going on at the moment) and answered all their questions in great details. But what truly impressed me was when I was wrapping up, a woman who was finishing ordering mentioned to the man taking orders that she didn't want a loyalty card because she was from North Carolina. Instantly, the staff knew all the locations in NC off the top of their head and were able to figure out the closest to not only her, but to her daughter. Like, what?! By the time I left, the restaurant was busy but the infectious niceness of the staff had rubbed off on everyone who was there. Can't wait to go back! read more

Grabbed my food immediately tried the tater tots they were greasy cold and stale. Love this place, especially the quick order pick up process. My go to is the grilled salmon plate with spinach and quinoa and some sriracha sauce. It's somehow a bit oily but good overall. I tried the fried fish and it wasn't great. More breading than actual fish and fries were too salty. I think they have a rewards program but not very clear on how it works. Overall I'm glad to have another food option in the area, this place hits the spot! Oh PS, maybe they shouldn't staple their bags bc I nearly cut myself every time trying to open them. read more

Very excited to have this in the neighborhood. Ordered pick up and grilled salmon with veggies and rice which was incredibly filling and great value for $13. Also ordered a side of the fried shrimp -- fried food is hard to do for takeout and I thought it was still wonderfully crisp and warm by the time I got home to eat it. I think the sauces also deserve a mention -- lots of variety and very flavorful. My one piece of feedback is that the veggies are a smidge too salty. What a great experience! I generally don't expect much when it comes to customer service at restaurants these days, but boy was I mistaken. My experience began with Ryan who took my order--she was quite friendly, and helped me navigate the menu--I was a new customer to this establishment. Then, Aaron who seemed to be a manager type expedited my order an apologized for my wait which was minimal thanked me for for coming in...asked me if my order looked good, packaged me up with a smile and told me to have a great night. Another employee Greg was making sure the restaurant was in tip top shape also thanked me for coming in. WOW! What an out standing interaction, and the food was FANTASTIC!!!
