All I had was the kanella roll! Voted the best cinnamon roll in the country. Is it? It's really good. It's not like a traditional cinnamon roll in appearance, or composition. But it has all the flavors. Got it go, ate in the car. It was hot, gooey, goodness. The icing was more inside than on top, a little cream cheesy, just slightly. Dusted sugar on top. The atmosphere was great for a morning / breakfast / brunch spot - bright & lively: good morning energy. Honestly LOVE this place! Such a great addition to Wells street, I come here often when my parents are in town because I know the food is going to be good, and we never fail to get a table without a reservation. The patio is going to be so nice once the weather starts warming up- which I'm counting down the days! The Mediterranean omelet is my favvvvv.... the spicy feta is SO good- something I have yet to find at any place since. It's now set me up to be disappointed by most places because they can't compete with the perfection Kanelas provides when it comes to all things breakfast. I think Kanelas is simply okay. I like the new Old Town location, very cutely decorated but the tables are incredibly close together. If you're sitting towards the front of the restaurant when it's cold outside, you will be constantly hit with a blast of cold air -- so wear a sweater! The service is typically hit or miss. I think all the workers are generally nice, perhaps a bit sassy at times... I think the food is alright. I honestly rather get breakfast at one of the other breakfast places nearby. I think the potatoes taste (lowkey) like they're frozen out a bag. The waffle apart of the chicken and waffles isn't anything special. It gives hotel continental breakfast energy. read more

Right off the bat, before receiving my food, I feel very connected to this restaurant. The inside is beautiful. It's clean, it's spacious, and very energetic! I'd love to give attention to the modern, yet cozy vibe this place brings. From the white clean tiled walls to the vibrancy of color that makes this restaurant pops. Our server was amazing. I forget his name, but man was he a goofball and super fun. That's what I look for in a server, is the fun energetic and warming comfort. The location at which this restaurant is located in is amazing! It's a super cute street filled with storefronts, plants, and overall great vibes. The food was really yummy, very filling and yummy. My matcha was a perfect blend of tart and a hint of sweet. Just like it should be. I can tell their matcha is authentic powder (at LEAST I think). I'll be coming back here for sure. I am an online food and entertainment critic and influencer. Went to Kanela Breakfast Club on Wells Street in Old Town Chicago. It's one of their 4 locations and I am sorry to say they failed in many areas . Unusual because their mission statement says, "Every Kanela plate is carefully inspected to meet the highest standards and our quality expectations". Ordered the Monkey Bread as I rarely see it on a menu and the anticipation was high because it was made with cinnamon, honey butter, caramel, toasted walnuts topped with powdered sugar. The gold standard for Monkey Bread is one I regularly have in St Louis. Kanela's was very poor in that it was dry, almost stale consistency, had no flavor, and just plain bad. To add insult on injury, the server came over and asked how it was. When I explained it to her, she never offered to take it off the bill or to bring something else. All she said was, "next time order the cinnamon roll". Wow! I could not believe that response. The Lorraine Scramble, eggs with chopped bacon, sautéed onions, and scallions was very good but could have been great if not for an over abundance of onion which took always from the other flavors. The toast was overdone, and they brought enough butter in a little cup that hardly buttered one piece much less two. I was very disappointed and the server certainly did not help. Having been a regular customer at Kanela Old Town since its opening I was away for the past few years. I recently came back and found the same excellence in hospitality and dining. Breakfast dishes are of great quality and reasonably priced. Coffee is the best! Cesar, the manager for several years, does an excellent job at keeping the place going. He is friendly, welcoming and it is easy to tell he has trained the staff well. I commend Cesar for his years of service to Kanela and for his professional management. He remembers guests and treats them well! Best dish on the menu is the Lorraine Scramble. It is consistently delicious and most satisfying for breakfast. Indeed it was - we ordered lox, plain bagel, cream cheese , capers, onions with a side salad (she told us the bagel was from 3 figs bakery in Chicago-not sure where that is), caramel apple oatmeal, side scrambled egg, with coffee and two hot teas. Oh we were very relaxed and had a yummy breakfast but I was upset that they charged me $4 for each tea. That was a crazy $8! I did check in on yelp where you get a free appetizer1 but since we didn't get any appetizers, our waitress, Aminta let us take home a dessert- loukoumade (Greek donuts with honey and walnut). I came here with a friend and had a really nice time. The highlights were the Kanela roll (looks only okay but it was delicious) and a hazelnut latte macchiato (delicious, but I ordered decaf and I think I may have received caffeinated). I also ordered the Cheesy Breakfast Sandwich and a side of Pork Sausage, and I was really not impressed by either. The sandwich wasn't very cheesy or otherwise especially tasty, and the sausage (I got two for the side price) was pretty overcooked. Our waiter was friendly and we were able to get seated just walking in at brunch time. Overall I did enjoy my visit but it was pricey especially for the quality of the food, and I think it's super important to make sure that customers receive decaf and other similar customizations if they order them. read more

Sunday morning at this location can be busy busy! It was about a 45 min wait for 5 people, so plan accordingly if you have a group. It's a pretty casual setting-- more cozy attire than a dress-up brunch. My meal was just fine. I ordered the Lorraine Scramble, which came with toast and breakfast potatoes. Definitely not a "must see" breakfast spot, but it gets the job done. My favorite part was probably the wait staff. Everyone was really friendly and they kept the coffee flowing. Despite it being a weekend, we were able to be seated immediately. I checked in on Yelp to help prompt me to review later (natch!), and got an offer for a free Monkey Bread -- score! It was hard to decide exactly what we wanted when perusing the menu, but I decided on the Lorraine Scramble. Once the food came out, I was pretty envious of my friend's tasty-looking lox with all of the fixin's. The Lorraine scramble was pretty much a deconstructed quiche Lorraine, and it was deliciously savory and filling. Highly recommended if you need something to keep you powered up throughout the whole day. The monkey bread was good, very sweet, and sizzling hot. We were both more in the mood for something savory, so we only nibbled at it. This is a hipster Greek breakfast place in the Old Town. On a mid Thursday morning, there was plenty of space here to seat a group of six of us. They do serve excellent bloody Mary's here and play classic movies though without the volume. While there they played "wait until dark" a noir classic starring Alan Arkin and the prettiest girl in history, Audrey Hepburn. For my breakfast, I had some kind of chicken omelette and it did the job for me. Inside, it is rustic classic Chicago and an excellent place to socialize and catch up with old friends. I don't know how to make a burrito but I would have liked, if possible, for the ingredients to be more spread throughout the burrito. I don't take enormous bites so one bite of one side of the burrito would be mostly chorizo and the other side mostly egg and avocado. This was the perfect brunch after a night out! Seek out this gem amongst the various other restaurants in the neighborhood! Definitely a place you want to walk to. I loved how their menu was divided by "sweet" and "savory" options. Their starters are a little under $10 - definitely shareable portions. As for their entrees, it ranges from $13-$16 a plate. Definitely worth it! After deciding between the various menu options, I ended up getting the fried chicken and waffles. That sriracha honey sauce poured over top was fantastic! Came here for brunch before walking the Old Town Arts Fest. Surprisingly, even though my friend and I arrived around 10am, we didn't have to wait long to be seated. I put my name down and they texted me about 15 minutes later saying our table was ready. Inside was ... cute but poorly planned. I was seated at a spot near the door and we were constantly crowded on by large groups trying to get seated or to put their name on a list. I can imagine it's absolutely miserable in winter with a constant draft. The food was ... okay. The monkey bread was good but Smoke Daddy (in Wicker Park) has a much much better one.
