This is one of my go to spots! It's located in a cute plaza. It's a clean space when walking in with pretty cool decors and tables. There's also a little patio area outside as well. The staff was friendly and answered any questions we had. I got the grilled catch with the veggiebox. Loved that it was freshly made to order & a good portion. Some of the other items on the menu that I like are also the salmon, lobster roll, clam chowder, and truffle tots. Don't think you can go wrong with anything on the menu though, honestly. So glad I found this place! Definitely the place to go to for healthy eating. I love seafood and this was just what I needed. I got the large bowl and it was plentiful with leftovers remaining. I have been wanting to try Brown Bag Seafood for a while, and I finally got to try it today! Despite it being a delivery, the flavor is still delicious. The marinated salmon had such good flavor, and it was cooked perfectly. The salmon was still tender and not overcooked. I got grains and greens, and it paired really well with the salmon. I didn't get any sauces, and I thought the flavor was already good enough. The only reason they did not get 5 stars is because the portion sizes are small. After eating it, I felt like I could eat another bowl. I ordered the original size, so maybe next time I should try the larger size. I didn't get any sides, so maybe that also was the issue? Regardless, I would still come here again since everything tasted great. I just know to order a little more food next time. read more

Naperville is beyond the reach of my foodie radar but we were there, it was dinnertime, and I consulted my trusty Yelp app. The Missus and I were in the mood for something fast-casual but not a pub or burger joint. Bingo! Ordering our food involved a bit of a learning curve. Here, you "design" your meal by marking your selections on a laminated menu using a washable felt-tip marker. A friendly and helpful cashier patiently guided us through this step. The simple but clever décor practically screams SEAFOOD! even though the sorts of visual clichés found at other seafood chains (e.g. shells, anchors) are minimal. The two all-gender restrooms are thoughtfully designed. We found a table next to a large window where we could watch the threatening skies (to be taken seriously in this particular town). We had barely settled in when a cheerful server brought our food. Both of us opted for the dinner plate (currently $21) with grilled shrimp as our entrée. Our sides were "Ancient Grain Blend," "Classic Tots," and "Classic Slaw." Garlic bread was included. Everything tasted freshly prepared. The mound of medium-size shrimp had a spicy kick and the "Boss Sauce" was the perfect condiment. The portions were not supersized but adequate. We might've lingered longer, but the storm was closing in. We hope they will eventually open a Brown Bag in the north 'burbs. read more

I guess we're a little late trying this place. It was perfect on a Friday in lent. The lines to order was not as bad as some reviews suggested at 6pm, but it got linger while we were eating our dinner. Counter service was friendly and quick. And we were able to find an open booth for 2. The portions were not big, but not tiny. The fried cod in the fish and chips was very good. Light, flaky, not greasy. And several sauces to choose from. People rave about the tots, which taste good, but they were a little damp/mushy (under the fish) so every one fell apart when you try to dip them. And the side order was a small paper cup. (Not overpriced, but not enough to share and the enclosed space in the cup made them more mushy.) The food was good, but not exceptional. It would be 4 stars on food/flavor. Service however was a little less than good. My wife's dinner came out fast. But there were no utensils to eat with. We asked and it was a while before they came out. They use real utensils from the dishwasher. But the young employee dropped one of the forks, picked it up and put it in the bin with all the others. (Not cool.) My meal and the order of tots never came. I had to go looking for it more than 10 minutes after the field came out (as my wife was finishing her meal) and it was sitting behind the counter under a heat lamp. Maybe that's why my tots were mushy. They seem to hire a lot of kids and did look like they were working hard to move food out quickly for a big crowd waiting for take out, but that may be to the detriment of the dine in experience. That turned 4 stars into 3 for me. I will surely try it again, but likely for take out. read more

This restaurant is my go to for fresh and sustainable seafood you can add different sauces and a good options on the menu to choose from. I like they have tater tots instead of french fries. I always get extra garlic bread which is so soft and delicious.The service is great they always welcome every guest with a smile. They don't accept cash card only.It automatically charges you a tip but it is divided among the staff which they deserve. They have plenty of seating inside and warm days you can sit outside . It shows through in everything from the light exterior, cool interior with wood, fish nets, rope, and teal accents throughout that give that beach/sea vibe. The staff are warm and friendly plus there are booths, regular tables, standing room, and a patio with umbrellas to take in the fresh air. Mason jars are used for drinks, and the whole atmosphere is inviting and easy to settle into for a quick bite or a longer meal with friends. The food was delish. I had lunch with a couple friends and we just did family style. We ordered curry fish cakes over veggies, seared tuna with tots, fish and chips, and chowdah. All of it was incredibly fresh, cooked just the right amount, and it all tasted very clean. Even the fish and chips were lightly battered and wasn't drenched in oil. The fries are crazy good so watch out. There wasn't much seared tuna, but it was cooked to perfection. The broccoli was cooked just enough to maintain its vibrant green and tasted great with the spinach and carrots. The curry fish cakes were probably the heaviest of the items ordered, but had just enough curry flavor to stand apart from regular fish/crab cakes. The chowdah was more creamy than seafood-ish, and I wanted it to be a little bolder in flavor. Otherwise, everything about Brown Bag Seafood was satisfying, and I'll certainly be back. read more

Naperville is not short on sushi restaurants or poke places, but it can be challenging to find just standard seafood options (other than that lone salmon dish at a steakhouse or shrimp tacos at a Mexican place). So I was delighted to see Brown Bag Seafood Co. open up! This nautically-themed place with a beachy vibe is a chain, but don't be a snob about it, because there are lots of good options, and most everything is quite affordable (unless you get the lobster roll, then there's an unsurprising jump in price). From shrimp to cod to salmon and more, you can get them served on a variety of bases (grains, veggies, salad etc.) There are also a wide range of sides (I got some tater tots.) Staff was helpful to newbie diners in navigating everything. A few comments: - Don't try to figure out the dry erase menu thing up front: they will take your order at the register. - Not sure why there were only 2 salt and pepper shakers by the condiments, rather than packets or a set on each table. I felt guilty if i would keep it at my table, and yet making extra trips is hard on me with a disability. (The food is brought to you at your table.) - Gingerade is a good idea but needed more ginger. Overall, we'll be back to try more of the menu! read more

There's both inside and outdoor seating but we came on a hot day so all of the indoor tables were taken. We were lucky to snag a table inside since it was pretty busy. We all opted for the create your own. I chose the seared tuna, veggie box (a blend of sauteed brussels, broccoli, green beans, kale, fresh spinach, and herbs), and truffle-parm tots. The tuna was prepared well and both the tuna and veggies were fresh. I didn't add any dressing/sauce to my veggies so they were a tad bit plain but they were still enjoyable. The tots were crispy and I couldn't stop eating them. We will be back for more! read more

This place is actually kind of cheugy-it's trying SO hard to be "hip" and "Healthy". I read about it and wanted to go there and when I got there I wanted to leave. But I was hungry and...never up, never in. So I stayed. I got the feeling nobody was actually doing any cooking back there, and there was some sort of Star Trek "replicator" that produced the picturesque plate I was given. I sat at a 2-top and dug in. I had tuna, truffle tots and "L.A. Slaw". What made the slaw "L.A." I'll never know, it was pretty much coleslaw. The tuna was ok, the truffle tots were barely "truffle" and the L.A. Slaw could have been Boise slaw, for all I knew. Another resto that was "Not bad", but "not really good" either. The sauces on the Sauce bar were the best part-"Boss Sauce" (these hipsters couldn't have thought up a better name?) was damn good, and the Ranch was exceptional. The clue here is grilled tuna and truffle fries shouldn't need any sauce at all, except a little extra salt if you are of that persuasion. The folks there were all nice--its an "order and pick it up" place, so there was no table service. Not bad, really--but I'm not in a hurry for a return visit. read more

Hard to find a decent lobster roll so far from New England - so although not a high bar set but this place was ok. Abundant lobster although the bread seemed too buttery for my taste. I like the tater tot idea but truffle is a love it/ hate it and just seemed odd paired with a lobster roll. Shaved Parmesan just sitting on top of them, seemed weird too since you eat tots with your hands usually. Not inexpensive but portions seemed fair. If I return it'd be to try something else and I'll wait for my trip to Boston for my next lobster roll. read more

Chef Christian knows his seafood! Let me first get started by taking a moment to credit the beautiful scene and friendly vibe of this corner restaurant located adjacent to Trader Joe's plaza. Come here for a quick bite after your shopping, believe me, it's worth the pit stop. Crab cakes: not your traditional sweet crab taste, but actually is more yellow in color and packed a punch with Asian flare as these crab cakes are mixed with curry powder. The pickled red onions and freshly sliced jalapeño gave this dish all the right accompaniment's it needed, and to my surprise- it was not overly spicy at all. This dish came with a sauce that resembled a Tabasco which I almost finished in the tacos. Fish and chips: this dish came with steak fries, two sauces, one a vinaigrette dip and tarter of course, also a cup of really good coleslaw. I really don't think anyone can mess up fish and chips but I know a few, so it was very pleasing to see my kiddo finish his meal bite after bite without prompting him to eat. A+ for making this dish simple but SO tasty. Clam chowder: I was feeling a tickle in my throat the day I came in for lunch, so yes, I order a piping hot cup of chowder on a 87 degrees sunny day. And let me tell you, I did not regret it, not one little bit. Cute little bouncing potatoes and generous perfectly sized chopped bits of clam floating in a sea of creamy abyss. This cup felt like heaven and healed Wtvr I was about to come down with. Asian slaw: I preferred the original slaw over this one, but it wasn't bad either if you're into the zing. Catch of the day was exotic St. Peter's Fish also know as Tilapia, a not-so-exotic farm raised fish. I had grilled shrimp veggies box. Passable for a good fast-food meal, but very salty. My companion had a grilled salmon half powerbox/half Veggie box, which she enjoyed. Truffle tot side order was small, and cold. Ech. I did not like the fact that to order, you pull a marker out of a jar and use a laminated menu. There is no hand sanitizer to be seen in the restaurant (and I asked). Also, you get nickel and dimed on the sides and sauces. Maybe I'm a cheapskate, but I like to have such condiments gratis. They did have different sauces at a "condiment" bar/soda station for no charge and they were very good. We'll give them another chance. read more
