We eat here all the time. The food is really good but I think the managers have completely lost their marbles. Today I came in to order 4 to go plates. The restaurant was half empty but I was told that they weren't taking to go orders. I had to sit down at the table order the 4 plates and then ask for to go containers to put them in once the food arrived. As far as the restaurant is concerned it was about the same thing but they made me pack of my own to go. When I asked the wait staff why I had to do this there was absolutely no logical reason for it. Given this economy and they do this to customers this is unacceptable. Just because of this incident I may never eat here again. read more

Great food, excellent service. I opted to sit at the bar since there was no wait. The bartenders were very friendly and the service was excellent. I ordered a sweet tea and the Apple Butter sandwich with a side of Mexican street corn. The sandwich was absolutely perfect and the corn was good but needed a little salt and pepper to my taste, but it had plenty of toppings on it which helped make up for it. Parking can be difficult since it's just off the street but the food is definitely worth it. I'm glad I chose to stop in here, I highly recommend it to others. read more

Not Equipped for large groups. Tried to get a table for 13 people and were told we would have to separate. We asked if they could move tables together to make it work and told no. They struggled to bring drinks to us bringing two at a time with several minutes passing before the next set of two people got anything. I was one of the last set of two to get my drink (just a soda) making it a really long wait for a simple fountain beverage. Understandably the food took a long time as we were a large party. Small tables after us were served first before they completed our large order and it took about 45 minutes from arrival to get our food. Unfortunately though my food arrived cold and after the wait I was too hungry to ask for it be quickly microwaved. The brunch food menu is pretty small with around four items for breakfast and four items for lunch. It's a one page menu with limited options. My food did taste good even if it was cold. read more

The only reason I'm giving this experience 3 stars is because most the food was good, and my waitress was so adorable and sweet. I believe her name was Kat? I saw an employee that worked in the kitchen with her hair down. She wasn't wearing a hair net and didn't have it pulled up. I've worked in food service before, and I know if you are working around food your hair needs to be pulled up! She's lucky I didn't have hair in my food, but yall are warned! Now to the food. My sandwich was amazing. It was flavorful and hot. My fries were cold. They were fries that had been sitting out for a while. I sent them back and requested new fries. Those new fries also cold. Order the house burger but instead of the regular cheese, substitute the Wicked Pimina cheese. Keep everything the same. The burger will change your life. It's my favorite burger in the world. Everything else here is top notch, including the wait staff. I don't drink but I get more than a little tempted by the house rendition of the bloody mary. Holy cow. Be prepared to wait then wait some more. We got here and there was a "30 minute wait." It was almost an hour but finally we sat. We sat and immediately ordered our food. Three tables came and went and we're still waiting for our burgers. From when we put our name in until now it's been 2 hours and still no food. Very disappointing. Should have gone across the street to the Tex Mex place. I can't rate the food as I'm still waiting for it. We asked the waitress to check and she said it'd be another 10 minutes. We'll see. Update: finally got the food (2 hrs 15 minutes in total) I got the blue cheese bacon burger. Ordered it medium rare, it came really well done. Mac and cheese was not hot at all the cheese set. Poutin was pretty good but again, not hot so the cheese curds were meh. Fried green tomatoes were the only saving grace. Our server Becky was really nice so at least there was that. First time here, Won't be back, hopefully not everyone has this experience. read more

With a 45 min wait the bar shouldn't allow holding seats for folks not there. The food was pretty good, the street corn was warm as was the Mac n cheese. My main pork chop was a touch tough but tasted good. My wife's blackened entree was tough. My wife and I visited the Brown Dog in Carrollton last night for dinner. Happened to be driving by and it looked quite inviting. Greeting staff was cordial. We waited about 25 minutes for a table. There is no good place to wait inside during cold weather so you kind of awkwardly stand in between the bar and 2 high tops crowding the folks sitting at either. They have a great mix on the menu. Literally everything sounds really good. Our server was kind and attentive. We made our selections starting with their version of a traditional spinach and artichoke dip served w/ pita wedges. It was good, served hot. Now surprises. My wife ordered the grilled chicken street tacos w/ the Mexican street corn. She loved the tacos although she said they needed acid and some kind of sauce. The corn was tasty but hard to eat and the creama sauce was a little much. I had their BLT w/ added salmon and a side of fries. The Whistle Stop BLT consist of fried green tomatoes, pimento cheese, bacon, lettuce, buttermilk ranch, local pepper jelly on ciabatta. The presentation was great but the sandwich not so much. The salmon was over cooked. But the biggest issue with the sandwich was the jelly... way too much! It over powered the entire flavor profile. With much less sweetness and properly cooked salmon I think the mix of flavors would be delicious. One other thing - let me just start by saying, I love salt but my fries were so over seasoned I couldn't eat them. I should have said something and sent them back but choose not to. Overall I will definitely go back and try them again but we all know how important first impressions are. read more

We were passing through on a family road trip. Everyone loved the food -- we all agreed that it was one of the most memorable places on our 9-day trip. The "-1 star" for a couple things: - My sandwich -- the "Mac"intosh ("Beer braised short ribs, mac & cheese, bacon, veal gravy, cheerwine bbq sauce, smoked bourbon onion aioli on baguette") was tilted a little too much on the bread-to-filling ratio. It was a much lighter sandwich than it sounds on the menu. - The pace was a little slow. Service was wonderful and the atmosphere was super, but a couple times the wait at the table with nothing happening was at that borderline uncomfortable feeling. While waiting for the food (or the check, I can't remember), my kids (teenagers) actually went outside for a bit to goof around in the warm sunshine. Flavors, ingredients, care of the kitchen, friendliness...everything else was 5-star. I'd love to have this place nearby. read more

My wife and I were in Carrolton for doctors appointment and, knowing nothing about the town, went to Yelp for a lunch recommendation. The description and reviews led us to Brown Dog Eatery. Wow, what a find. The service was exceptional (thank you, Dawn) and the food was fabulous. We both had salads (a Salmon Caesar and a Shrimp Spinach salad) which were delightful, and the Banana Pudding for dessert put it right over the top. Needless to say we will be back often. read more

The service was great and the menu is interesting. My problems was that the Philly steak sandwich was salty. My friend ordered a Pimento cheeseburger medium rare. It had a spot of red but not much. My friend said her cheeseburger was good and took half as a left over. I didn't take mine home. OK, so we were traveling and stayed overnight in Carrollton, GA after we just had enough of the road. Looked for a spot for takeout. Went to get the food. First of all, what a quaint restaurant! Love the vibe! Drove about 10 min back to our hotel. Food was INCREDIBLE!!! usually takeout doesn't do justice, so I cant even imagine how AMAZING THE FOOD would have been in house! We had the white bbq chicken& mac n cheese - daughter ordered we all tried. Bc she raved about it! It was so good! I had the Apple Butter Jeans Sandwich with a side salad and cup of crab soup. So freaking delicious!! Better half had a house burger and fries and loved it! We are from Dallas, Tx, we are total foodies! We can't wait to eat there again! We were in town from Nashville TN, the Gulch to be exact, I only share this because we have our fare share of fine eateries, and here to enjoy the Historic Banning Mills, and was recommended the Brown Dog. We loved everything we had. The Fried Green Tomato set the tone. What an amazing dish, exploding with flavors. We all ended up sharing the House Burger, Seafood Pasta and the McIntosh Sandwich. This place had a good vibe. We sat at the bar. My fiancé ordered a Bloody Mary and I ordered an old fashioned. My fiancé didn't like the Bloody Mary, so she got a glass of champagne instead. My old fashioned was good, but I thought it was strange to use crushed ice. Our food took a bit longer than I expected, but that was fine. We had the shrimp and grits, and the black bean burger with fries. All very delicious!! I will say the ketchup was in a Heinz bottle, but it tasted like off brand. I am picky about my ketchup.
