Stopped by on the way to Florida my first time eating here. They have good food but small portions and very expensive.

We ordered bacon cheeseburgers all the way with onion rings and they tasted great. Fast friendly service.

This is a zero-frills burger-and-shake hole-in-the-wall. We didn't try the food, but the shakes and service were excellent.

10/10--absolutely worth the stop!…read more If you're heading to Lynchburg for the Jack Daniel's Distillery (or any of the nearby whiskey distilleries), do yourself a favor and eat at Barrel House BBQ afterward. First things first: if you're a die-hard brisket lover, just know they don't serve brisket. But honestly? Their ribs more than make up for it. Coming from Florida, where truly great, non-franchise barbecue can be hard to find, we're always excited to try local BBQ when we travel. Barrel House absolutely exceeded our expectations. We ordered the three-meat platter with sides (and couldn't resist adding a couple of extras), and every single bite was fantastic. The meats were tender and juicy, nothing was dry, and the barbecue sauce was incredible. What really made the experience stand out was the atmosphere. It's a small, tucked-away hole-in-the-wall that feels welcoming the moment you walk in. You can grab a marker and sign the walls, which was a fun touch, and they also encourage guests to leave signed dollar bills that are donated to a charitable cause each year. It's those little details that make places memorable. The owner (or manager--I never did ask which) was outstanding. Even during a busy lunch rush, he was everywhere at once--helping customers, running food, supporting his staff, and making sure everyone was taken care of. You could tell he genuinely cared about both his employees and his guests. Sometimes the best restaurants are the ones hiding down a side street, and this place proves it. We'll absolutely be back the next time we're in Lynchburg. Highly recommend!

The waitress was friendly and gave some amazing recommendations!! The sandwich was a nice touch. Very original and filling. Their potato salad was one of the better ones I've had in a long, long time. The vinegar slaw was great and original as well. Nicely done. The best part of this meal were the ribs. I have got to say that these were the best ribs I've ever had in my life. And, let me tell you... I've had a lot of ribs... the meat just melted off the bones. The flavor was next level. And, the proportions of meat to bone are ones I've never seen in my life, not even at a backyard barbecue. If you haven't been and are in the area, go check it out!!! You won't be disappointed. Ah-mazing!!!

For entrees we had the double smashburger with sweet potato fries and the turkey burger with a lettuce wrap and cowboy caviar. We also had a cookies and cream milkshake. We tried a few beers from Five Wits and per her recommendation got the creamsicle shake as well. Solid beverage choices. The shake tasted part float part milkshake and it was absolutely delicious. Would order again. The food on the other hand was a bit eh. We ordered the Asian q burger and the mushroom melt burger and it took quite a while for them to come out and when they did they had unfortunately been left on the grill for way too long and were charred and crunchy. One set of our fries was cold and the bun to burger ratio was extremely off. Luckily, the staff agreed that our burgers were accidentally overcooked and they remade them no questions asked. The remade burgers were moist and better but still not fantastic. They were just burgers with minimal toppings on them. Not really seasoned and the flavor came from the toppings themselves. The buns were still too big for the burgers so there was a lot of extra bread and they have potential to be great but they were just average. Would have probably been a three star review but the staff and drink selection really earned the extra star. Would go back to drink and maybe snack but probably not order a burger.

Some highlights were the burger (the best I've ever had), the trout (also the best I've ever had), the charcuterie board (delicious), and the beef tallow fries (also delicious). The service was amazing; the servers were very nice and the food was very quick. Also, the ambiance was very nice; we were there on a Tuesday night and there was a waitlist (I recommend coming around 5 PM to beat the crowd). Overall, amazing! 5 stars.

Nothing arrives looking like it spent twenty minutes being positioned with tweezers. It's meat, bread, potatoes, pickles and sauce--the sort of food that requires napkins and leaves evidence. The Reuben is borderline obscene. A heap of deeply colored, tender meat barely contained between aggressively toasted bread, melted cheese and pickles. It's messy. It falls apart. You stop caring almost immediately. The turkey club is the quieter surprise. Thick slices of actual turkey--not the sad, uniformly circular stuff that's been haunting office refrigerators since the Eisenhower administration--piled onto grilled bread with bacon, avocado and enough richness to make the whole thing work. Then there are the potatoes: thick, fried rounds with crisp, dark edges and soft centers, served without ceremony alongside ketchup and a creamy orange sauce. Simple food done properly. There's nowhere for bad technique to hide. And that's really the appeal of Main Street Meats. They're not trying to convince you that lunch needs a backstory. They butcher animals, understand meat, make sandwiches and appear to take all of it seriously without taking themselves too seriously. Michelin noticed the place. After eating here, it's not particularly difficult to understand why. Come hungry. Order too much. Get the Reuben. Wear a shirt you don't particularly care about.

So on my first mainland trip in a couple years, I have been trying different burger shops. Jack Brown's had really high reviews, had a super fun vibe, and a really creative menu, which I love. Service was on point. Let's get the elephant out of the room right now - the size. lol I was prepared for a small burger from all the reviews, but, Shake Shack has a small burger, Jack-in-the-Box has a small burger. It's not the size of the dog in the fight, it's the size of the fight and the dog. But I ain't gonna lie, that is one tiny burger! It's like...five bites? One for each corner, and then the middle. lol They might be better off coring the middle, and marketing them as hamburger donuts. The easy fix is just order an extra patty for a few bucks more. Same as Shake Shack. The other thing I have a problem with is the, "we don't do lettuce or tomato..." line. Sorry, that's like a pizza with no toppings. Really, it just sounds like they found a way to reduce overhead by not having to prep and pay for vegetables. But whatever... if great burgers can be made without lettuce and tomato, and without a big patty...let's get it on. I'm sorry, but that patty was charbroiled to the point of no juice. This is where a tomato might help with moisture. lol I don't see how this is actually Wagyu. A Wagyu burger should be melting in my mouth. I don't know what happened, but it reminded me of my first job at Burger King, running whoppers through the flame broil conveyor belt. If you got one that just came out, you scored big time. But if you got one that just sat in the warmer for 10 minutes, you got a dry burger. It was a very disappointing burger. Then again, I just had a Shake Shack burger yesterday, and it was nomnom greasy goodness. Of course I was going to be disappointed. It's like Ozzy Osbourne following up Slipknot as the opening act. The fries were great. They came in a huge basket, and the price was very reasonable.
