In from out of town and Clumpies was recommended. They didn't open until 12pm on Saturday, but that was perfect after doing some walking around and coming from the Chattanooga Zoo. They had plenty of workers on staff, so while one was prepping, the others could serve. So after coming in shortly after 12pm, there was no wait to be served. Orders were prepared as requested and tasted delicious. Great stop if you're headed to the splash pad by the river or just enjoying a stroll downtown. On a recent trip to we came here twice in 24 hours because it was that good. First day line was smaller and quick. We got the Whiskey Caramel Cornflake Crunch on top and espresso chocolate chunk on bottom in a cup. The whiskey flavor was delicious. Can't decide how we felt about the crunch. But the espresso was 10/10! So good. Tables in front and in back with bench seating and standing tables in front. People come and go quick which is nice since it was so hot. We grabbed a table pretty quick. Second visit was night of Pops Concert and fireworks. It was packed. Long line that wrapped around. Not only did it move fast, the workers didn't even seem stressed and were so nice with crazy line 30 minutes before closing. This time we tried the blackberry mojito and it was so refreshing! Every now and then we'll get a sweet tooth and walk into a Clumpies for some Ice cream. The place is always slammed with people especially in the spring and summer months. It's a large, clean, well lit space with a few tables and chairs in the front and back of the shop. The brownie sundae is my go to dessert of choice. What an amazing experience. Even with the long line, their ice cream is worth it. There are seasonal and signature flavors and they make their own waffle cones. There is limited indoor seating and there is some outdoor seating, but a lot of people just seemed to get it and go. After all, isn't that the purpose of an ice cream cone? You can get your ice cream without a cone, in a dish, or select from a variety of things. They have things to top your ice cream with as well, and their sundaes are phenomenal! By far one of new favorite spots in Chattanooga. We came after the holiday music festival in the park. There are so many options to choose from. I love that you can create a flight which is actually what I opted for. The flight is $12.50 for 6 flavors. I decided to do mostly sorbets which included strawberry hibiscus sorbet, lemon basil, mango tajin sorbet, raspberry lemonade sorbet, strawberry basil sorbet and the blackberry mojito. I think the basil option were very herbal but not enough that I didn't enough them. My favorite was the blackberry mojito. I think for the price you can't beat a flight if you want to share and sample several flavors. The staff were helpful in providing patrons suggested. They moved pretty quickly as the line was from the counter all the way to the back stairwell when we arrived. read more

Anyone else try to find the best homemade ice cream places when they travel? I hope so! I mean who doesn't like ice cream and being able to taste them in different places is not only refreshing but fun! I started with trying the blackberry mojito since it was a featured item. I know what a blackberry taste like and I know what a mojito taste like but I wasn't so sure the combination hit the mark in this flavor. So I reverted to my standby favorite butter pecan. I also got the blueberry muffin in a waffle cone. Note to self: those two flavors doesn't go together well. The blueberry was more overpowering than the butter pecan and it felt like it was only eating the blueberry. BTW, I was pleasantly surprised to be handed a real mini stainless steel spoon for the tastings. Clumpies deserves a gold star for this environmental move! Parking: It looks like there is parking in the back of the store which we did not know. We risked parking at the Walgreen's across the street. I love a good ice cream spot and this place delivered. It has an old diner feel. They have a wide variety of rotating flavors, some which are pretty unique. The portions are big and they'll let you try a lot of flavors. The kids loved the bubblegum flavor where they add pop rocks which is fun. Three stars, because in the context of, all things considered, Clumpies was part of a great experience during our stop in Chattanooga. However, I found the staff to be quite disengaged, just moving through the line taking orders, not offering much help, and lackadaisically responding to our questions. Our selection was good, Clumpies indeed offers good ice cream, but if you add good service to a good product, the end result is a much more pleasant experience. Just a heads up though I don't think they make more of one flavor after they run out for the day. The service was great. When we tried them the Staff was just two teen girls. They were super into Taylor Swift, and so we were stuck, listening to awful music upon our visit, but it's understandable and we just dealt with it. The facility is clean (and adorably decorated).
