My best friend and I could not decide on what we wanted so we bought the Salmon BLT with sweet potato fries and the Soul Food Burrito and split both. The food was awesome!!! The salmon was tasty and I'm not a big salmon eater. I've acquired a taste for it for health reasons. I put some blue cheese on my fries because ketchup doesn't go with sweet potatoes, I've determined. Our food was neatly packaged and still hot when we received it through delivery. Let me start this off by saying the containers of hot sauce in both of my containers of food when I opened it they both had spilled out . I don't know if someone did not put on the tops correctly but unacceptable especially for the chicken and waffles the hot sauces can easily be put in the bag it does not have to be in the container because things like this happen. The waffles were not done not edible at all ,nothing to do with the hot sauce they just were not cooked properly the chicken 10 out of 10 The soul burrito 7/10 the catfish was the best part ,Mac didn't have a taste and there was hardly any greens inside of it also lacked flavor . My husband and I have wanted to try this food for a while and finally got the opportunity. I got the cat fish plate and it was divine. It's perfectly seasoned and slightly crispy and came with a bed of seasoned fries. We also got the 2 soul food burritos - 1 catfish and the other was chicken. The filling is a creamy Mac n cheese with collard greens and then the meat - this blew my mind! I liked it better than the cat fish and I thoroughly enjoyed that! The place is small but luckily they have one table because that thing was not making it home, it looked and smelled amazing and was it good. Finally after seeing the soul food burrito one too many times online, my boyfriend and I decided to order to go after a hike at cedar ridge. We had just sweat out pants off, so this level of carbs were necessary'!!! We ordered the catfish burrito, the chicken burrito, and a three piece catfish tray as well!! All three were banging!!! Because I ordered the chicken burrito for myself, it was lovely to still have a bit of fish. The Mac and cheese was creamy, the greens were flavorful but not overtly seasoned and the chicken was perfectly coated. I would use more tender chicken pieces. This was so unique! I got the soul food burrito with catfish and I really enjoyed it! Especially with hot sauce. Though I don't think any of the items in the burrito are strong enough to stand alone, they blend together in the burrito perfectly. I only take a star away because the greens are very soggy almost like the texture of spinach. But nonetheless I do recommend this place and have taken a few folks here when they're in town! I saw you guys on Keith Lee's TikTok, and living in De Soto, I've been eagerly waiting to try your food for months. Today, I finally pulled the trigger and, honestly, I hate to say it, but I'm pretty disappointed. Let's talk about the catfish. It tasted like... dirt. Yes, you read that right--literal dirt. The crispy coating was nice, but the flavor? It was so earthy that I half-expected someone to inform me I'd been served a side of potting soil. Maybe I got a bad batch? I've had bad catfish before, but this was on another level. Then there were the grits and shrimp. Oh boy, they were so salty I thought I might as well have been eating salt straight from the shaker. I had to wipe the sauce off the shrimp just to salvage my few shrimp. And as a self-proclaimed salt lover, I can tell you, this was not the good kind of salty. I really wanted to love everything, especially since I adore soul food! On a brighter note, I did enjoy the catfish dip you included--though I only managed one bite because, you guessed it, I couldn't touch the catfish. The macaroni and cheese? You guessed it again--over-salted. Not over-seasoned, mind you; just plain old over-salted. The Soul Food burrito wasn't bad, but it wasn't anything amazing. I was a bit disappointed, it tasted like some stuffing was in it, and I didn't expect that. The greens also didn't have much flavor. The catfish was good, though. The brisket Mac & cheese was the best thing there; it was full of flavor. The portion here is good for the price; nothing was small. The service wasn't amazing, but not bad. I'm not sure if their air was out, but it was really hot and loud, so you had to yell to talk to your friends. Located in Desoto, TX in an indescript strip center, the food here is anything but indescript. I ordered the catfish, fries, the sweet potato cobbler. The catfish was super flavorful and fresh, with delicious homemade tarter sauce, but the cobbler, WOW, it was literally one of the BEST things I have EVER eaten. And ive eaten at a 3 star Michelin Restaurant. If you are in Desoto, do yourself a favor and stop by and try this out for yourself. read more

We got there early directly after church so we waited in the car for them to open. When they opened they took our order and they were very nice. The ambiance was cozy and the staff made the trip. We talked with the man that makes the desserts while waiting on the food and he was so nice. We took our order to go and when we got home, we noticed they didn't add in our dessert after talking to the guy all that time. We called and they said we can come pick it up or refund. Quite honestly I'm on the fence about this spot. I ordered chicken and waffles and a side of greens. To me, the chicken lacked flavor and the waffle and syrup saved the entire dish. The greens were spicy ..... and cold. The one thing that I didn't appreciate was being asked to leave after an hour as they needed the table for another reservation. I want to start off by saying they have excellent customer service, very friendly and inviting. My biggest red flag is I didn't smell food. I didn't hear a fryer going or see a cook. People in the back were kind of standing around but I still ordered. 2 chicken and waffles and a catfish plate with greens and Mac an cheese on the side. The chicken was at minimum a day old, not fresh by a stretch. My son picked over it as it was very dry and he didn't like the waffle. The catfish was decent but that Mac and cheese made me want to fight. My son tasted it and said why is it spicy. They top it with like maybe oregeno I'm unsure but hated it. I don't know what everyone else is tasting buy my experience was less than enjoyable. I ordered the solid food burrito and peach cobbler. The hot sauce made the food tolerable. Someone reviewed the "southern burrito reminded me of eating in New Orleans" and that is unbelievable. I'm not sure if it was an off day but it was not good. We sat on the patio, their ordering is online so somehow they didn't get our order even though we paid when we ordered, and the waiter never came to check on us while were sitting there with no food for 45 minutes. We asked for a refund even before they started making the food and they didn't want to oblige so we waited some more and just took it to go. I just don't understand how that is going to be your format and you haven't perfected it yet instead of still having someone take your order. They had a few empty tables and told us that unless we had a reservation, it'll be a 40 minute wait. No worries, we were good with that. The hostess was really nice. We went back in our truck to wait. 45 minutes went by and still no text. An hour, no text. We finally decide to order it to-go via online. That was a quick easy process. We went to the pick up window, 20 min later, as instructed, and our food was even being made. I had to physically give the staff my phone through the window (showed him my recipe) and he said, "aight, I got you!" Lol, I can't make this up. We finally get our food (shrimp in grits & soul food burrito). It took about 9 minutes. 1. The Shrimp and Grits were so watery/greasy. I couldn't believe my eyes. I was even more disappointed when I tasted it. It had no seasoning. I really wanted to love this. I'm from South Carolina, HOME of the LowCountry Shrimp/Fush and grits. I know this was designed to be like anything in SC but, I was upset! The shrimps were big (tasteless) and it came with two sausages. Even they were tasteless. 2. The burrito was pretty good. This review is about 7 months overdue, so the details are not as fresh. It took me a while to post because I wasn't really sure how I felt about the entire experience to be honest. That said, I'll start with something I was very happy with, the food. The food was phenomenal, packed with flavor, and clearly freshly made. I ordered the shrimp and grits. The sauce was perfectly balanced, the grits were creamy and the perfect texture (you can't eat everybody's grits), and the shrimp were perfectly cooked. I was thoroughly pleased with the food, and while I wouldn't make the trip from Waco just to visit, if/when I'm in Dallas again, I definitely wouldn't mind revisiting. Everyone in my group loved the meal! As far as the overall experience, I don't have anything to complain about at all, but I don't have anything to praise either. My group sat inside, and there wasn't much going on as far as decor. It was simple and intimate; just a few tables, very clean and tidy, everything seemed to flow well. I didn't like that there's a time limit on the table given that we had to wait past our reservation time, but it really wasn't an issue at all as far as having enough time to eat. The food did take a bit, but it came out piping hot, so the give and take was to be expected. As far as customer service, it was non existent, but not in a bad way, we ordered from our phones so we never really saw/engaged with anyone from seating until the food was delivered, which didn't bother me at all...but if you're a needy diner it might not work for you. Overall the experience was ok, but the food was great. If you need a lot of face time with the employees, you probably won't enjoy the process of ordering, eating, paying, and leaving with minimal interaction. Not enough food and food poisoning!!! We ordered their catering service for our wedding. They were supposed to supply plates and cutlery. First, they didn't bring enough plates and cutlery. They left to get more plates, which put us eating lunch back another hour (our guests were starving). While they were gone, they left the food out and by the time the food was served, much of it was cold. They showed up with food and plates for around 80 people, when we ordered for 180 people, so half of our guests did not get to eat. Then, about half of our guests that did get to eat, got food poisoning. On top of that, our coordinator was in contact with Jessie, the owner, in order to try to get more food for us (the amount we originally ordered), and he just stopped responding to her. One of our good friends ended up leaving our wedding to go get some Chick-fil-A platters, so he missed part of our wedding, and by the time he got back with more food, the damage was done and people had already left. He ended up missing half of our reception. My husband and I are big dancers and we wanted to have a big dance party after lunch (we had a brunch wedding). Instead, over half of our guests left early because they either didn't get any food at all, or because they got food poisoning. I'm very thankful that I didn't know any of this was going on until after (my husband and coordinator knew it would seriously negatively impact the day for me), but nonetheless, my wedding day was not what we hoped and planned for it to be because we used this company to cater it. In addition to that, we have been trying to contact the owner for weeks now, with little to no response. When he does respond, he has made excuses and has not refunded us one penny. We changed our original head count from 200 people to 180 people before the wedding, paid in advance, and tipped him 20% when we paid him and he has still not even refunded us for the change in headcount. He has talked about making it right for us, but has continued to drop the ball in every aspect of making it right. Every time we have tried to contact him since our original contact after the wedding (to tell him what all went wrong) he has ignored us. Whatever your event is, Use someone else. read more
