    Seafood Platter

The food, service, and ambiance were all absolutely amazing. I started w the stuffed shrimps. Sorry- my stomach was growling and I forgot to snap a photo. Then moved to the seafood platter. Finished my meal w bread pudding to go and an order of the crawfish pies to go. So I have groceries for the week.

    Bring your appetite! Flavor overload!!

This is an amazingly cozy, inviting space, with a very quaint and relaxing ambiance. The soft, uninterrupted jazz in the background, cascading like a waterfall. The service was hands-down top notch! You didn't want for anything, and the pace was perfect like a tailor made jacket. The staff catered to the needs of every table in perfect tandem, like poetry in motion. The food was absolutely DIVINE!!! I would like to buy the cabbage by the pint, as a side dish at home. Never tasted anything like it. The oxtails were stewed to fall-off-the-bone perfection. And I wrapped things up with the old-school, remembrance of grandma's decadent, mouthwatering bread pudding, which was spot on! Would love to see those stuffed shrimp in a 6 or 12-piece option with sides. You have something special there, for sure. Keep up the great work making memorable first impressions. We'll undoubtedly be back. I want to try everything!

The pelican house is amazing! Each dish is made with that signature New Orleans love and care. Not only will you leave more than satisfied with the food, but the welcoming atmosphere will make you feel right at home.

Sweet on-the-house treat for our anniversary: a warm, cinnamony, pineappley bread pudding-- with a perfectly yummy strawberry on the side ;)

My husband and I had first visited The Pelican House three years ago. We loved it, but we don't go out to eat that often, so it had been a while . . . This past Saturday was our anniversary and we decided to treat ourselves again. TPH was just as good! In an area where unique restaurants don't seem to last long, we're thrilled with the longevity of this place. What's more, the same friendly host/ owner, Louis, greeted us and walked us through the menu, just like three years ago! We took his recommendations and had the deep-fried rib meal and the seafood platter-- both were scrumptious, and too much food to eat. I especially loved the crab cake, which was delightfully spicy (yummy Cajun seasonings!) and not at all bland. The house-made potato chips are to die for. The house-made sauces are delicious, too. Most of all, you really get the feeling that you're in a place where the owners take pride in the food they're creating. I highly recommend dining in; this isn't "to-go" food in my opinion: you want the full ambiance and this food should be devoured fresh from the kitchen, while the chef looks on in pride and asks you how you're enjoying it. :) (We said we didn't have room for dessert, but they gave us this scrumptious bit of warm pineapple bread pudding when they found out it was our anniversary, and . . . YUM!! It didn't last long!) Go ready to fully interact with the hosts & enjoy the foodie experience! :)

Where to begin with this wonderful portal to New Orleans flavor and flair? As soon as you enter this establishment your ears are greeted with a good selection of music. It feels like you're entering an open air jazz festival. The decor has a distinctive inviting NOLA vibe, clean, vibrant, and welcoming. We were an arriving party of 8 (please do call ahead to make sure the restaurant can accommodate your party as we did) set to celebrate our great uncle's birthday. Parking was ample and easily accessible for some of us who use mobility devices. The owner, Louis was very warm, jovial, and inviting. We were immediately seated. We were told the chef's specialties of the day (a delicious sounding oxtail dish and a unique stuffed wing delight), as we perused their offerings. I appreciated their very detailed, yet streamlined menu. Louis suggested an off menu option of a family style meal which would have been several dishes of the chef's choice, which could have been budget friendly. However, upon discussion we decided to le bon temps roule and ordered several dishes from the menu. :) For starters I had peach sweet tea, which checked all the boxes and came with one complimentary refill. It was a refreshing summertime tea. The table shared a fried alligator and stuffed shrimp appetizers . The fried alligator nuggets were well seasoned, fried to perfection, tender, and subtlety savory. The crab stuffed shrimp--honey! The shrimp were huge, fresh, so succulent with the crab mixture they generously paired with each shrimp at just the correct proportions palette wise and aesthetically!!!! They placed these well fried delicacies atop a shredded bed of cabbage and carrot accompanied by in house made dipping sauces which were --chef's kiss! In addition to those starters I had a cup of seafood gumbo without rice. The roux was deep, smooth, and everything you wanted it to be. The sausage, chicken, and shrimp were well balanced in the cup. I was the odd person out, who felt the gumbo was just a touch salty, but given how my two other uncles devoured their cups of gumbo I think we may be able to scratch that up to a personal preference, and not a reflection of the chef's numerous skill sets. The meat in the gumbo was not salty at all. It too was well portioned, tender, and cooked well! I didn't happen to try the two slices of French bread that accompanied the gumbo, however they looked beautiful and were cut to an appropriate thickness for the portion. The plating was nice. For my main entree, I ordered The Seafood Platter with a side of marinated sautéed cabbage. The Seafood platter came with three good sized fried catfish strips, around five fried jumbo shrimp, one substantial crab cake, atop a mountain of delightful medium thick in house made sliced potato chips with a side garden salad. Every item on my plate was so marvelously juicy, seasoned, breaded, and perfectly fried! The crab cake packed such a unique flavor explosion with just a little bit of sweet heat at the back end of the the bite. The crab was very flavorful! The platter itself was a beautifully platted sampling of Neptune's kingdom with generous portions. I could only eat half and and I had plenty to take home. The sautéed cabbage was also amazing. I had to pass it around the table for others to try. Every bite was filled with unmatched flavor and love. It reminded me of my Grandmother. You know the food is good when it creates strong memories associated warmth, family, and love. They were kind enough to let us bring in a birthday cake for our great uncle. One of my family members ordered a dessert from the menu that he really enjoyed. We sang happy birthday and Louis, the owner got great pictures of our group. Thank you for preserving those memories for us sir! By the way, if you're looking sharp or are just feeling photogenic they have a really neat photography area with a backdrop that says The Pelican House. It's a fun opportunity for guests and a great branding idea! Our service was impeccable. They were working on a large catering order when we arrived so we very much appreciated what it took for the chef to switch gears to get everyone's orders satisfied. The food and the service were so spectacular I had to thank the ebullient owner, expert bartender, and the fantastic chef who all worked so hard and well together to make sure we had a fantastic time and were well accommodated. The ambiance was inviting, music selection was fantastic , the food was well priced, well portioned, and crafted with skill. The service was everything it needed to be and beyond. I will definitely be back to support this business. Whether you're dining solo, with friends, family, a date, or organization The Pelican House will have you feeling right at home and darn near saying, "Thank you baby!" in the wonderful way in which only folks from New Orleans can say to you.

The Cajun Kitchen has been here in the Red Bird area of Oak Cliff for 10 years and this was our first visit. Only open M - F from 11 - 5:30p, this is a busy place. Nearly everything is cooked to order. The Gumbo was terrific. I like mine with okra and peppers and onion that I can SEE and it didn't have that, but their smooth spicy dark roux was delicious. I counted 6 large perfectly cooked shrimp in my pint of Gumbo with some diced chicken and sliced sausage and little bits of ham. I also like garlic bread. But honestly, it's hard to be too picky with something this good! Pint - $10.99 Next time, I'll just get it to go and do what I want to it at home. Lol. We also had the posted special - the Catfish Special for $10.99 The Catfish is some of the best that I've had in awhile! The cornmeal is seasoned to perfection, then the fish is fried to perfection and gently cradled on a slice of wheat bread. Um hm. Wheat bread. OMG. Two perfect pieces were served with some AWESOME red beans and rice. I just wasn't feeling fries and a substitution was made for the most glorious red beans and rice! So very good. A can of soda or bottle of water is included. Whole pickled jalapeños are available for 59 cents each. Yes! Have to have some of those, too. I stuffed myself and then took the rest home. As did my husband. For whatever the dining room may have lacked in ambiance, it more than made up in a good time. The A/C was good, the tables were comfortable and the service was friendly, kind and helpful. There's plenty of parking. They have to go and pick up spaces for food out front. BTW There's both baked and fried fish and chicken which sounds amazing. I hope to try both!

It was ok. It is dark inside. But I love the sit in your car and order and they bring it out to you.read more

Whenever or anytime we have guests in town and we know that enjoy Cajun cuisine, we always bring them here, if they haven't been to a Pappadeaux's. We come here for the food, but especially for the friendly staff members and managers that work here. Their instances far in between where sometimes things don't work out, like the kitchen or the type of service for example, they've always made it right here very friendly, very professional as long it's communicated they can fix it. And as far as locations go, we love the flavors here. Like maybe it's because of the demographics, but we feel like we get more taste and kick within the seasonings of the foods at this particular location. We tried them all throughout DFW area and this by far is our favorite. It's closer to where we live very convenient and as always, very clean and delicious with the signature Pappadeaux's decorations all around. I ordered the salmon with king crab and asked for my salmon medium because I don't like it rubbery. Unfortunately, the texture just wasn't for me, and I could only manage a couple of bites. What really stood out though was the service. Our waiter immediately noticed and offered to get a manager to take the entrée off our bill. We told him it wasn't necessary, but he still went out of his way to make sure we were taken care of. We also realized we didn't even check what time they closed (the boys made the reservation), and right as I was finishing my Bloody Mary, we asked for another. He came back and let us know the bar had already closed and said he wasn't sure why they didn't make a "last call." You could tell he was worried it might affect his tip, even though we reassured him it absolutely wasn't his fault. That level of service and care is exactly why we keep coming back. Always a great experience.

We like to eat local whenever possible and thought fish and shrimp would be a good light dinner so we found Krab Kingz and read the reviews. Most of the negative comments were about how long it took, so we prepared for that. Hubby tore into it before I could take a picture. We ordered a fish and shrimp combo online with no problem. I received an email saying it would be ready in 30 minutes so we arrived right on time, expecting a delay. When we arrived it was hot and ready. Now there are several large signs that say Check Your Food Before You Leave. It was kind of crowded and dark in the restaurant but I opened the bag, saw fried fish and fries, and figured the shrimp were under them. Nope, I was wrong. They forgot the fish. It was too late to go back since they were closing by the time we noticed. So if you go CHECK YOUR FOOD BEFORE YOU LEAVE THE RESTAURANT! I'd advise you use your phone flash light (afterthought). The fish was fried hard, just like I like it but I couldn't taste seasoning. It also tasted "fishy" to me and that is when I realized that I didn't know what kind of fish it was! The fries and corn were good and they give you condiments and napkins. Overall I really wanted to add this to my Good in Dallas list but I can't. Maybe someone else will have better luck.
