I went there at lunchtime because I was afraid to go for dinner because a lot of reviews said "fish was not fresh", "Fish smells very fishy", or "The food quality and price doesn't match". Seemed like lunch had "Ramen" which is NOT fish things. and pastries look good. (Looks like most of 5-star reviews are for the pastries) 1. I ordered Truffle Turkey Shoyu Ramen, but it was not warm enough. It's almost cold. My 2-year-old child can eat directly without blowing to cool 2. They didn't bring a Ramen spoon (or any spoon) until I asked 3. They have a delivery/pick-up option for pastries but they don't have any bags (Plastic/paper). I put my pastry box sideways and it messed of course 4. Ramen's taste was okay. For me, it's a bit sweet. Maybe someone likes sweet ramen, I think it's a better option. But if you seek "Japanese Ramen", it's totally different. 5. Dessert was really good! Looks gorgeous and tastes awesome! I don't understand why they push more pastries and desserts instead of not-good-review sushi. I suggest they start high tea/ afternoon tea. Look at this cute spoon! It's a little strict review but if you want to take an Instagram photo, that's the best. But you should order not the regular menu, I recommend pastries or dessert! The OG Brush in Decatur introduced my wife and I to omakase style dining, and we have been hooked ever since. Despite numerous additional omakase meals both in and out of Atlanta since then, our first meal at Brush stood out for its hospitality, creative touches, and quality seafood. When the restaurant relocated to Buckhead, we revisited to celebrate our anniversary and see if the magic persisted. Brush 2.0 feels appropriately swanky given the surroundings in the upscale Buckhead Village development. Parking occurs at the nearby garage and is $5 for 3 hours, and parking is validated for omakase diners. The ambiance of the restaurant itself feels dark and moody with geometric wood accents marking the dining room. Whereas the original appeared more a neighborhood restaurant, the new location suits date nights and other fancier outings. Upon entering the restaurant for our 8:00 reservation, our dedicated omakase host provided us complimentary glasses of rosè for our anniversary and seated us in the dedicated omakase room. We got lucky in that the chef/owner Jason carried out the meal and we had a semi private experience as only two other diners joined us. Chef Jason expertly hand prepared each bite of food using the highest quality ingredients such as artisanal soy sauce, perfect sushi rice, and quality nori from Toyosu market in Japan. The seafood itself tasted excellent and fresh, as it does at any other good omakase. Brush distinguishes itself, however, with creative and ingenious touches to the food that makes for a truly unique dining experience. For example, charcoal rather than a usual gas blow torch is used to sear pieces of fish, adding a distinct hit of smoke. Chef Jason dry ages quality cuts of fish and offers them side by side to their fresh counterparts to highlight the differences in flavor and texture. Non sushi dishes such as a savory riff on a Taiwanese wheel pie, a miso soup with cuttlefish, and a chawanmushi with cod roe punched above their weight despite usually being afterthoughts at standard omakase meals. Of course, a huge part of the experience is the hospitality, and Brush delivered on that critical aspect too. Omakase diners have a dedicated attendant who takes drink orders, clears plates, and explains dishes. Chef Jason, too, freely explained his process and acted as a humble, kind host who even escorted us out of the restaurant upon our meal's conclusion. The meal felt personal and the service warm, which positively evoked our first omakase at Brush years ago. With nicer digs comes increased price points compared to the old Brush ($185 per person for the base 16 course omakase and even higher for more elaborate plans). Ultimately, the experience remains well worth the cost of entry and still one of the (slightly) less spendy options in town for an omakase. Any fan of sushi should consider Brush a must visit for one of the cooler omakase experiences in the city, and we look back on both our experiences here fondly. read more

My friend and I came here to celebrate the beginning of summer! This was probably one of the most enjoyable sushi experiences I have ever had in Atlanta. Brush sushi is located in Buckhead Village facing Piedmont. We ordered a variety of hand rolls and one Toro sushi roll as our meal and we were honestly feeling very well fed. We also tried two different cocktails and a sake that was really light and refreshing. My favorite thing about this place is that the happy hour is worth your while. We went here for happy hour, and we're a little late for our reservation, but they were completely understanding. They allowed us to be sat where we wanted to, and they gave us ample time to order and kept us informed about the time in case we wanted to order anything else before happy hours was over. I really enjoyed the food here. Toro, Hamachi, and well executed sushi are always number one for me! I honestly cannot wait to come back here again and I know it's going to be just as good and I can't wait to try more of the menu. They have an omakase experience hear that I am so excited to try whenever I get the chance! And they also have a tuna cutting event that you can buy tickets to! If the Michelin guide is involved, these things should be a given (based on similar caliber places I've dined at). I like these guys. The decor, atmosphere, and plateware are impeccable. The attention they put into ensuring that every plate and glass that lands on your table perfectly reflects the dish or drink you are enjoying is incredible - it is a detail focused and elevated experience. This is a great place to go if you are a couple looking for a special evening out or are looking for a statement business dinner. For the food - the Chawamushi was incredible and we had several temaki (on happy hour) that were excellent. For the regular rolls (maki) I was honestly disappointed - we had a Negitoro Ikura (chopped fatty tuna) for $37 that was quite forgettable, and an unagi roll for $19 that was good-ish. Reading between the lines, my take is that perhaps it is the non-maki areas of the menu where they really shine. Service was pleasant and knowledgeable but our server got swamped and we probably spent 30 minutes longer than we ideally would have. Not a big deal in such a pleasant environment, but on their end they definitely missed the opportunity to turn the table a lot quicker. Overall my suggestions are (1) tighten up the service side so they can turn tables faster and avoid patrons waiting, (2) really consider the higher priced items on the menu and ensure they deliver. Regardless of ingredients used, there's a certain price point where the dish just absolutely needs to be a hit or should be removed until it can be perfected to impress. read more

Brush Sushi is highly rated; however I felt that the entire experience was lack luster. The lighting is off and rather rudely bright. We sat at the bar and thank goodness for that because the tables all looked awkwardly placed and every time someone was seated they wanted to move no matter where they were. We wanted something to start to wet our palate and they had nothing, offered nothing until we finally nudged them and they brought out this sliced octopus thing, which wasn't bad but not the sort of thing to welcome your tongue to a sushi meal. I wanted to start with Nigiri which was easy, but we also asked if the chef could prepare something he thought we'd enjoy no matter how exotic. They brought out nine pieces of additional nigiri! That's it, nothing spectacular nothing "wow." Did I fail to mention the portion of wasabi was less than 5cm and the soy sauce came in a spray bottle... I think I kinda liked the spray bottle. Even the soy sauce seemed diluted! We are visiting from New York City and I brought my fiancé here for omakase for his birthday and he LOVED it. The restaurant was elegant simple and beautiful. Not to loud it was perfect to speak at a normal level and hold conversations. I am not huge on sushi but I enjoyed most of the courses and I truly enjoyed the service. The main server I believe David, was so hospitable and welcoming. He was super attentive and there for every need. He suggested the perfect drink which I had rounds of the entire meal (the last word). He also offered recommendations for where to take the remainder of our night. The chefs are the perfect balance of in the zone and informative about their cooking and techniques. They were open to answering all questions and just overall made it an immersive experience. Had my birthday dinner at Brush on a Saturday night, and I am so disappointed in the overall experience. First off, the prices are ridiculously high, and one would expect the quality of the food and service to reflect the prices. That is not the case. The menu is overly confusing. Even the members of our party who frequent MF and Umi on a regular basis were kind of lost. Our server, Rob, who was very patient and knowledgeable, explained the entire menu to us and we were still confused when the things we ordered showed up not looking at all like the things we thought we ordered. Please fix and simplify the menu. The two menu items we were most underwhelmed with were the Hamachi Kama and the Hay-Smoked Miso Duck entrees. Both very high in price; the hamachi was fishy and the duck was tasteless and bland. The hamachi comes with several accouterments such as cilantro salsa, lemon, and other things I can't remember, that we were told must be combined all together in order to get the full flavor experience of the hamachi. I get that, but if they have to cover up the fishiness of a normally not fishy fish with multiple "enhancements," then I'm dubious about the freshness of said fish. My biggest gripe was how this restaurant handles gluten-free diners. The restaurant knew at the time of reservation about my gluten-free allergy, so they had plenty of time to prepare. There was an obvious communication breakdown between the members of our server team, where we were told an item would be modified a certain way to be gluten friendly, only for it to show up at the table just dripping with gluten; or I was told a certain dish was fine and gluten-free the way it comes on the menu, only for it to show up looking sad and bare because they had to take off ingredients that turned out not to be gluten friendly. I'm especially peeved that the aforementioned cilantro salsa, which shows up in multiple plates, is made with soy sauce. Like, why? It's so easy to modify this to make it tasty and gluten-free. In this day and age its pretty shocking that a sushi restaurant of this caliber wouldn't know how to properly accommodate and please their gluten-free guests. I've never had a problem at Umi, Nobu, or MF before. To top everything off, service was very slow. We were a party of six with an 8:30p reservation and didn't end up leaving till after 11:30. I will say that their otoro was pretty damn delicious, so maybe I'd come back just to have this again. Then again, Umi has delicious otoro too, so if I can get in at Umi I'd rather just go there. read more

My expectations were high after reading reviews from Eater and seeing peoples Instagram stories this past week on their opening. The positive is the food was pretty good. We got the jalapeño yellowjack, tofu, chef's nigiri sushi and the Wagyu which was all delicious. Also shoutout to the hostesses for being very friendly. The cons - service was very slow (our dinner was 2.5 hrs long), they ran out of a lot of things in particular sake and cocktails (which is strange since it's opening week), and our server either forgot to put our order and drinks in or just paced out the service poorly. Also the cost was super pricey...with everything we ordered and a bottle of sake and two cocktails, we paid nearly $500 between two people. We paid that much and still pretty hungry and we even contemplated if we should go to Shake Shack across the street for a burger. Two stars for the food and using a mini spray bottle for our sushi (which is a great idea!). Not sure if we would go back. read more

The presentation of food was stellar, however the items can late, not at all, or greatly undelivered at times when they did not impress. If it doesn't justify the price point (a $35 seasonal veggie plate ordered as a side (came as basically grilled starch vegetable kabobs without the stick) take it off the menu. The Waygu items are top notch. Sashimi and maki are good quality but lacking in flavor. Yellowtail starter was worth getting again. There is also an extensive zero proof selection. We ordered one along with other cocktails out of curiosity and they were okay. Our waiter was polite and knowledgeable. The food runners were not rude but had some attitude when there was confusion because food came out with different sides than described on menu and was placed with wrong person/wrong order previously. Understanding they made a swap based on seasonal availability was all that had to be said. We had a larger group and no one wanted to take someone else food which was understandable.
