Place was dark when we arrived a half hour early. It appears the staff was sweeping up inside. We drove around to the walk up window and my husband, determined guy as he is, went to speak with the sweeping girl to ask if they were still serving ice cream. Turns out they were! We've had Bruster's before in MD. He got me chocolate and Oreo for himself. The girl gave us huge heaping cups-enough for two servings. Generous...maybe because we were so persistent or maybe because they are just like that down in Culpeper. As in MD, my chocolate was good but not superb. They didn't have the premium flavors at this location. Oreo was superb. If you are a chocolate lover, I highly recommend you skip the basic chocolate and go for the Death by Chocolate Premium flavor ( that is if they carry it). read more

If you're looking for the best hot fudge brownie sundae than Bruster's is it! Today was my first time here and their ice cream was a hit! We ordered a banana split & a brownie sundae. The banana split was good and my husband really enjoyed that one but my fave was the sundae. Some places serve the chocolate syrup at room temp which I hate but Bruster's was hot. The brownie in the sundae was also very good. They also have great customer service. A gentleman assisted us and he was helpful with the menu as it was our first time. I am that girl that orders chicken strips no matter where I'm eating. I can tell you where the worst strips are, and the best strips. Honestly, the strips at Nathan's /Bruster's are fantastic AND I get to eat ice cream afterwards. They always have a special flavor to try. They will let you try the flavors with sample spoons so that you can determine what you're in the mood for. We've visited this spot for ice cream several times. Talk about good stuff! We've only had ice cream here, although Brusters and Nathan's Hot Dogs go hand in hand. I don't know who owns who, but they obviously have some sort of symbiotic relationship, & both franchise's products can be enjoyed here. While ice cream flavors (made daily in house) change, my tastes don't vary widely, & the "Dark Chocolate" and "Butter Pecan" are my favorites. Husband has yet to veer from the "Butter Pecan", and with good reason. You've never seen "Butter Pecan" ice cream like this unless you make it yourself. The ice cream itself has a mild buttery slightly-caramel flavor; the pecans are WHOLE PECAN HALVES!! No weeny little pieces - whole pecan halves that have been lightly salted. It's an ethereal Butter Pecan ice cream experience - lol! Again - don't know about the Nathan's offerings, but the ice cream is A+. read more

Located off 29/15, we spotted a sign and detoured for a hot dog and ice cream. There was a group of touring Europeans when we got there and only one employee working so it was a bit of a wait. Not too bad. They serve Nathan's hot dogs. I was hoping for plain coffee ice cream, but they only had a version with sweet fudge sauce mixed in. The family and I were driving from Charlottesville, VA to Washington D.C. and saw a sign that pointed to Nathan's hot dogs. We pulled over and found Brusters Real Ice Cream which served Nathan's dogs. If you are in the mood for a hot dog then a Nathan's dog is definitely the way to go. The bun was warm and soft and the bacon bits were crispy. I personally like my hot dogs with shredded cheese and not melted nacho cheese which is why I only gave 3 stars. The fries were pretty good but of course the melted cheese made the fries a little soggy but my boys ate them up. When we left we decided to get a banana split. Thank goodness we only got one as it is huge! It was big enough for all 4 of us to eat of off and it was actually really good! read more

I stood and watched as 1 dog at a time was prepared, refrigerator to bag, ...then the the next one was started. Agonizing wait whilst trying to be compassionate and understanding. If you are in the Culpeper area, a must! Delicious, made-in-store ice cream in interesting flavors. We had banana peanut butter chip, key lime pie, coconut chip (coconut ice cream with chocolate chips) and Boston cream pie ice creams. All delicious! Coming back from a camping trip in a hot summer weekend, stumbled on Bruster's ice cream and I was wowed with their ice cream! They were out of bananas to make my banana split but they gave me the alternative of brownies at the bottom at the same cost. Totally worth it! My daughter likes going here but I don't. The restaurant is always dirty. Service is ok but the filth in the restaurant is such a turn off.

I really wanted to like this place...it has a lot of good reviews. But, I cannot tell you why. I stopped in for a burger and fries. The burger was clearly a frozen patty before they turned it into a flat, dry, flavorless disc of "meat" that I barely noticed under all the bun anyway. Normally I don't give bad review's but tonight was awful. The place was clean and facilities were exceptional. It was the employees with hygiene issues. The one with glasses and Beard was loosing his mind about making ice cream. He was making orders that already made and forgotten about our order completely. None of the employees were wearing gloves and the one with glasses going nuts touched his face and then scooped ice cream for other customers with no gloves!!!. So we're the other two with no gloves as well. I've been in food service since I was 16 and you always wear gloves while serving and making food. My girlfriend and I demanded a refund since they was ignoring our order and served other patrons after us. The kid in the glasses looked like he wanted to come up to us and say something that he would regret. If he said something nasty to me or my girlfriend, we both would of wholloped him one. I don't know what his issue was but never will be going to Brewster's for a long long while. read more

Went there on a Friday afternoon and could not seem to get the attention of the single employee running things, but after seeing her handle the food then handle money and then food again with her bare hands and no washing in between we walked out. I don't care how good the food is, I just have a thing about being poisoned. Even 7-11 employees have much better food handling practices, they wear gloves when the get your food. read more
