I hate negatively reviewing businesses, and it might just be me, but Bruxie is just kind of a sandwich shop on a waffle. I get the texture, unique delivery device of the waffle, but I have eaten there before 3, or more times, and choosing different sandwiches, trying to get somewhere in choosing where Bruxie stands out. All I can say is, Bruxie makes decent sandwiches, using a waffle instead of bread. The shops have been clean, the staff kind and happy. Nothing wrong there, I just want to know what makes Bruxie stand out. I will go sometime in the future, and continue my quest. Keep your hearts and minds open for amazement. What the heck... it's a damn waffle paradise! Located directly next to Chapman University sits the little waffle hut, Bruxie. Don't let it's size fool you, the food churned out here is kind of amazing. First off, let me say that this whole outdoor eating thing is really great. I mean, we live in SoCal, let's make the most of our fabulous weather. Who needs A/C when you have a cool breeze? Parking sucks, period. You'll be lucky to find a spot somewhere deep into the residential area. Luckily, we managed to find parking less than a block away on Sunday mid-morning. I opted for the Green Eggs and Ham waffle sandwich. Eggs, ham, and pesto sandwiched between two waffle halves. It's like a waffle taco. Why didn't someone think of this sooner!? I ended up doctoring my sandwich/taco/waffle Beast with Cholula... which I highly recommend because... well, Cholula is amazing. Here's a tip - douse the waffle in sauce and it'll soak it right up. Less drippage = less mess! If I wasn't so full with one waffle sandwich I'd have ordered one of their dessert items. That pumpkin creation looked magnificent! Saw a commercial on tv while in our hotel and was going to go to Roscoe's however the reviews for them were not that good so we decided to stop here after visiting the Orange Outlets. I loved that they have outside seating with the walk up window and some of it is covered in case of rain. We placed our order for a holy chicken, 6pc tenders, and two chicken and waffles. We also got an Irish waffle, 2 root beer floats and a strawberry Palmer. Not too expensive at $63. The runner/waiter was great. Used my name and even pointed out the change we made for the thigh to a tender could be a breast. I declined but I like that he offered anyways. I'm hindsight I wish I would have taken his offer I would have had food for tonight. I must say it was great! The waffle was crunchy on the outside but soft in the inside the chicken was seasoned perfectly and the fries were yummy!! I had to question all my life choices after I ate this food but don't regret it at all. We ordered the holy chicken, B.A.M.F and the El jefe. The holy chicken was just ok, I feel like it was the weakest of the three. The B.A.M.F was pretty good! I wish it had a little more Mac and cheese. The El Jefe was amazing. If you like spicy food then you should get this. Too bad it didn't come with a waffle. It has a strong flavor that punches you in the mouth in a good way. Those where the good, now the bad. I dunno if it was this time or normal but our food took over 40 mins to come out. I had go ask where our food was for it to come out. I suspect that they forgot our order and left it just waiting there because the food was cold when we got it. Cold fried chicken is just not good. As amazing as waffle sandwiches sound, they actually taste even better. You know how sometimes a concept sounds so amazing in your head that you hype it all up and there's pretty much no way around it - you're going to be let down. Kinda like senior prom or your 21st birthday or most New Years Eves. Well, imagine just the opposite for Bruxie. The waffles are perfect, crisp, fluffy, just airy enough, and not too heavy. A slight hint of vanilla but not nearly as sweet as waffles from Roscoe's. Seriously, these waffles are so perfect, you could put fried toads in between them and it would still be delicious. But, luckily you don't have to resort to fried toads, you get amazing options like fried chicken, hamburger, nutella, red bean, prosciutto & gruyere and more. Alas, they were out of fried chicken when I went, but the prosciutto & gruyere was quite tasty. The burger was the most surprising, because the actual meat of the burger was delicious too and the texture of the waffle with it made a delish lunch. In waffles we trust, Bruxie or bust. The love on Yelp for this outdoor waffle counter just north of old-town Orange is never ending, but first-timers should be warned that Bruxie does have flaws. It's specialty seems to be waffle sandwiches featuring two halves of a thin waffle around meats or sweets. The atmosphere is relaxed with several booths on the sidewalk patio where you can wait for your waffle sandwich to be delivered to you. Street parking was easy for us on a Sunday afternoon, but I can imagine it would be tough during peak periods. Fried Chicken and Waffle ($7.50) - 3 stars The crispy waffle was fine and two pieces of fried boneless chicken breast were ok, but I was expecting juicier meat and fluffier waffles. I didn't like that the chicken was drenched in Maple Syrup because I like my Fried Chicken with spicy Southern sauces instead of sweet. Lemon Cream & Berries ($6.50) - 4 stars Kudos to Christina P. for the Yelp recommendation! This turned out to be the favorite of both my wife and I. My tourist friend came to visit and I gave her choices to pick for dinner. She was staying at Anaheim Convention Center so we didn't want to go too far from her hotel. She picked Bruxie because it was hot right on yelp and she wanted waffle. Kudos to Nick H for recommending this place. I ordered chicken with waffle and she got something else I couldn't remember. My waffle was delicious but I wasn't too impressed with my fried chicken. The chicken wasn't greasy but it was missing something. 5 stars for the waffle itself and just 3 stars for the chicken. I went back there again to try its Hot Chocolate, Hamburger and Cheese Bruxie. I even ate in my car because the place was crowded. Hamburger: The hamburger was amazing. Perfect combo of waffle with meat, very thin and long slice of pickle and tomato. 5 stars. Cheese Bruxie: basically grilled cheese waffle. Rainy day in Disney and we had Bruxie delivered to the telly. We ordered the Original Chicken and Waffle Sandwich, waffle fries, and a strawberry Palmer. Even after the car ride over, the food was on point. They took the time to separate the sandwich so it didn't come over all soggy. Hey Bruxie! Who in the hell do you think you are??? Ever since Bruxie has moved into Old Town Orange, it seems like it has been hogging all the business and leaving the other surrounding eateries scrounging for customers. So again, I ask you Bruxie, who in the hell do you think you are? Let me tell you all a little about Bruxie. This tiny place used to be a hole in the wall burger joint that went under a few months back. Now it's a bustling little joint that only has about eight tables, which are all out doors, two small windows where you place and pick up your orders and a line of patrons that is usually five or six people deep. Bruxie's menu is made up of breakfast sandwiches, savory sandwiches and dessert sandwiches. What makes Bruxie stand out is that they use waffles instead of bread on their Sammie's. That's right, waffles instead of bread. I have been here two times now and I have tried a bunch of different things. These are the things I have ordered: Bruxie Burger- Angus patty topped with cheese, tomatoes, pickles, lettuce and mayo. I also added sliced avocado to my burger Buttermilk Fried Chicken- Buttermilk fried chicken topped with chili honey and coleslaw. I also added sliced avocado to this Sammie Prosciutto & Gruyere- Prosciutto topped with Gruyere, chives and whole grain mustard PB&J- Loads of creamy PB and black berry preserves S'mores- Belgian chocolate, graham crackers and toasted marshmallows Waffle Fries Liege Waffle- Topped with butter, powdered cinnamon sugar and Nutella. Egg Nog shake made with Wisconsin frozen custard Both the Bruxie burger and the Buttermilk Fried chicken sandwich were phenomenal. The burger was juicy, flavorful and cooked to medium rare perfection. The buttermilk fried chicken was juicy, tender and because of the chili honey it was both sweet and spicy. The Prosciutto and Gruyere was flavorful but needed a whole lot more meat and cheese. Every bite contained much more waffle than prosciutto and Gruyere.Their waffle fries are a bit bland. They definitely need some more seasoning on them. The two dessert Sammie's were both fantastic, especially the PB&J. The Liege waffle was light, fluffy and really sweet. Next time I want to try a PB&J made with Liege waffles.Their egg nog shake was the best egg nog shake I have ever had in my life. Because they are so busy, and because they make the waffles fresh when they are ordered, it can take a few minutes to get your food. All the young college kids who work here (Chapman University is across the street) are really friendly. The prices here may be a tad high for some folks but I never complain about high prices if the food is great, and Bruxie's food is indeed great. Waffles just aren't for chicken anymore folks!!! Well, at least not at Bruxie, where the creative menu runs the gamut from savory & sweet creations to classic favorites! We arrived at around 12:00pm Saturday afternoon, and I could already see a pretty substantially sized line forming. In all honesty, the line was moving at a pretty quick pace, so I was not feeling discouraged from trying out the waffle sammies at this local favorite. While my friend ordered, I took the opportunity to hunt for a vacant table, since seating was very limited here. This type of tag team set up is highly recommended if you plan on finding a table at this busy joint! They typically have specials, as well, and today they were featuring two waffle sandwiches in honor of the SuperBowl teams. I wasn't entirely impressed with the specials so I went with some of my trusty Yelper recommendations which included: the Bacon, Egg & Cheese Waffle and the Chicken & Waffle sandwich with maple syrup on the side. We ordered two tasty Peet's coffees and we were good to go. Luckily, I was able to grab a table for two, just as my friend finished ordering. Whew! Moments later, our food and coffees were brought to our table by the friendly and efficient service staff. The waffle looked freshly prepared and all the ingredients looked incredibly delicious! Shortly after I snapped a few obligatory photos, I quickly sunk my teeth into the tasty waffle. As soon as I heard that beautiful "Crunch," I knew it was going to be good! The texture was perfect. It wasn't too dense, but rather light and airy! The eggs were fried nicely with a soft golden center that didn't run all over the sandwich (and my fingers!) The bacon was crisp and the cheese was warm and gooey! Yum! To add an additional layer of flavor, I dipped the waffle sammie into the maple syrup, which added just the right amount of sweetness to this delightfully savory sandwich! Next up was the fried chicken waffle sandwich. Now I'm a huge chicken & waffle fan, so I was a bit leary about this combination. My main concern was that the waffle would get very soggy with the moist chicken inside. After the first bite, I realized I had nothing to worry about! The chicken was crisp and tender with a sweet and mildly spicy finish from the chili honey that was drizzled on top of the crisp golden battered filets. The shredded cabbage added a refreshingly pleasant crunch to the sammie, as well. The combination was pleasant, but I would have preferred the chili honey on the side. After a few subsequent bites, the waffle started getting a little wet from the chili honey. Next time, I think I'll order the chicken & waffle sammie without the chili honey and dip it in the maple syrup, instead! That maple syrup combined with the savory flavors of the waffle sammie was absolutely delicious! As soon as we finished, our table was immediately snatched up by the next hungry patron. Everything moves at a quick pace here, so be prepared! Overall, I had a very enjoyable first experience at Bruxie. The waffle sandwiches were delicious and the addictively sweet maple syrup on the side was a MUST! At about 6 bucks a pop, this satisfying meal did not leave my pockets looking thin, either! Add to that a friendly and helpful staff, and you have yourself a winning combination! IMO, stick to the classic recommendations from Yelpers, and you can not go wrong! My one hang-up you ask? The darned Wi-Fi, or lack thereof! If you can get it to work, kudos to you! I was unsuccessful at achieving a connection (after several frustrating attempts) with my iPhone 4 :( Nonetheless, here's hoping your experience is as wonderfully satisfying as mine was! I came with fellow Yelper Fia R. to check out this iconic waffle sandwich spot one afternoon, and the line was 30 deep with a transient crowd that moved at a steady pace. We sat in the outdoor seating area with plenty of shades to shelter us from the sun. The food came out quickly, and based on Jayne L's review it is best to eat them hot and fresh. The Buttermilk Fried Chicken & Waffle ($6.95) came with fried chicken, chili honey, and cider slaw served between a folded waffle. The fried chicken was juicy and easy to bite into, but the buttermilk flavor was faint and the chili honey could have more pop. As for textures, there were some crispy qualities to the waffle and slaw, but I wished the exterior of the chicken could be more dynamic in terms of its coating. Overall, I wished the waffle wouldn't be so flimsy, as I prefer the ones with heavier sustenance with pronounced buttermilk flavor from Syrup. Lemon Cream & Berries ($6.50) was served with blackberries, strawberries, and lemon cream to hold the flavors together. The mixed of berries were fresh. I liked this waffle better simply because the sweet on waffle concept offered more coherence than the mild-tasting counterpart. Service was fast food-like, quick, friendly, and efficient. The best part of the experience was that the food wasn't too greasy and the sandwiches were easy to share. Interested diners should also take the lighter, more airy version of waffles into account. Additionally, the first come, first serve seating arrangement is unpredictable so I wouldn't recommend this place for big groups. Despite these limitations, I still believe it is a novelty worthy of the experience but parking in this busy area is one major factor that may dissuade me from coming back. Popular spot, Bruxie's. After having tried them, though, I'm not thoroughly sold on waffle sandwiches. It's not to say that Bruxie's doesn't deserve a lot of credit for their style. They do. In fact, Bruxie's certainly offers a fun place to relax and have a bite--I'll bet Chapman University, just across the street, swarms this place!--but I just don't feel that a waffle, any waffle, makes a sandwich exceptional. Bruxie's, however, counts on its waffle fare. That's its selling point. After all, replacing it with any other sliced transport device leaves you with what you've probably come to find most elsewhere. Creativity then wanes. An ordinary Chicken Club is ramped up when served upon a waffle. A simple Tuna Melt, delivered in a waffle, seems that much more glamorous. My cousin was graduating from Chapman University and we thought that we'll eat here 1st, before attending his graduation. We already expected the line to be a little long, so were not surprised to see a bunch of people already waiting in line as we pulled up. The Waffle was not soggy and had the right texture to it. The chicken was tender and soft, with a light breading to it. You take one bite of this, and you'll want to continue eating it. It's just that good. The Waffle with Eggs and Bacon was pretty good, but just not as good as the Chicken and Waffle. The Waffle with Eggs and Bacon may be suitable if you are in the mood for breakfast food, though. They do charge $1 extra for maple syrup (what a money maker!). A very SoCal experience. You order from the walk up window, there's plenty of outdoor seating, and it's just people hanging out in the warm weather kinda vibe. The line was a little long but it moves fast. I liked it. What sets Bruxie's apart is their made to order light and crisp waffles. I shared 3 waffle sandwiches with the wifey, around $7 each. They're a little on the smaller/lighter side so you won't feel all fat and obese after. 1. Buttermilk fried chicken and waffle sandwich. The chicken patty was OK. Didn't get much buttermilk flavor or crunch from the chicken or slaw. It's not gourmet by any means but it comes with a chili honey that gives it some zing. 2. Burger waffle - If In-N-Out wrapped their burger in a waffle (minus the onions), this is what it would taste like. 3. Creme bruele waffle - Definitely do not skip one of their dessert crepes. My favorite out of the three. Fresh strawberries and the brulee action created that addictive texture and flavor. I wanted my own of these. I can see why it's popular, especially with the college crowd. The price is right, the food is good, it's a fun easy spot. I'd come back. Great cheap eats with the SoCal experience. read more

On my latest foray to Los Angeles, my local Yelp Elite friend CherCharm C kindly took time out of her schedule to meet me at Disney. When we had to decide on a spot for lunch for a post of lunch, she mentioned that she had wanted to try Bruxie for awhile. "Gourmet waffles?", I said, wondering what they were but I've always learned to trust the instincts of my local Yelp friends. Well, they're not Yelp Elites for nothing! So, off we went, navigating using CherCharm's trusty iPhone. Luck was with us for parking as we eased into the last parking spot in the small lot at Bruxie. You order at the window and friendly runners deliver the food promptly Well, yes, they have transformed the humble Belgian waffle into a substantial meal. We went with the buttermilk fried chicken and one of their special, ham and green eggs. Both were tasty. The waffles are a good alternative to bread, being a little crunchy and not sweet like normal waffles. It's fried chicken. It's waffles. It's syrup. It's chili sauce. It's sweet. It's savory. It's spicy. It's like the Sybil of foods. We've never been to a chicken & waffle place. I've had C&W at restaurants but not where this was THE featured item. So it was with great anticipation as we pulled up to Bruxie. Located in the Chapman College neighborhood, this place is neat for those of you who enjoy people watching and maybe crave a little bit of nostalgia of being on a campus. I admit. I miss college. Come on, your biggest worries were tests and not getting arrested at parties (for the record I was a complete nerd and my version of going wild was mixing root beer with Pepsi). Now it's mortgages, doctor appointments, making sure your kids don't do the same stupid things you did while you were little. So sitting in the good sized patio at Bruxie allowed me to mix among the college crowd. I almost felt young again. We hit the shop just around the beginning of lunch and there was already a good line building up and several tables taken (some by the prerequisite ONE student who just needs a whole kriffing table for their work-really you little mf?). Still it allowed us time to investigate the menu. A staff member constantly worked the lines greeting and seeing if we had any questions. You walk up, order, pay, and the server brings it out to you. Staff was very cheerful and constantly checked on you. The mandatory chicken and waffle. The waffle is fluffy with a crisp outside. The chicken is coated to perfection and seasoned well. Though both savory, you obviously add some sweet maple syrup to come up with a delectable combination. The waffle fries order that came with it was appropriately portioned as a meal-combo and did not disappoint. It comes with coleslaw which is not overpowering with the mayo giving enough moisture otherwise it could get kind of dry. There is also a chili honey sauce that is really good. All together the sandwich hits all sorts of wonderful notes. Pulled BBQ Chicken waffle sandwich. This was my order. I liked it. The chicken had a tiny bit of heat and came with crisp shoestring onion rings. I'd order again. Pastrami Salad. Sometimes my kids amaze me. All this fried food and she orders a salad. The pastrami was tender and according to her "the best pastrami ever." The salad was part of a special where you also got an affogato. That was kind of a miss. The coffee was good but the ice cream was really runny. All in all, a great first time at Bruxie and would definitely love to go again to explore the menu. read more

Bruxie lives up to any hype I have heard. In fact, my expectations were exceeded by the delicious waffle sandwiches and waffle fries. Going on a weekday, we found a long line that was moving at a good pace. This is an outdoor setting and we were lucky to get a table right after we ordered. The staff here was friendly, accommodating and pretty fast considering the constant arrival of customers. I tried the pastrami sandwich, a special listed near the front of the line. This was even better than what I sampled from the chicken sandwich my husband ordered, in my opinion. The waffle used in the sandwich is made on the spot, soft and not a sweet waffle and it goes perfectly with the meat. This is a very indulgent and satisfying meal. We tried the waffle fries, which are seasoned with salt and pepper. They are so good but the next time I visit, I am planning to stick to the sandwich only. Peet's Coffees and teas are served here. When we visited, they also had strawberry lemonade. Parking can be crowded and I believe some of the streets in the vicinity are permit only. A good option can be to park at Chapman University, which is across the street. read more

The stand, which features both savory and sweet concoctions as well as outdoor seating (almost picnic table style), reminded me of Dairy Queen locations I knew growing up. We went for dessert and I tried one of their waffle sundaes (topped with frozen custard). The waffle sundae featured a liege waffle topped with frozen custard, chocolate, caramel, whipped cream, and roasted peanuts. The sundae was big. There was also a lot of stuff on it even though none of it was really great. The whipped cream, chocolate and caramel were all standard stuff. The waffle was okay though I prefer a softer waffle to this one; this one had more of a crispy outside. I was also disappointed with the frozen custard. I think you are always going to lose something with soft serve instead of hand scooped, but I've had frozen custard soft serve that had more of a custard flavor. The frozen custard at Bruxie did not remind me of frozen custard at all. Service was quick and fine. Prices were reasonable. You get a fairly big dessert for around $6 (more than enough for 2). I was not a huge fan of Bruxie's waffle sundae. The frozen custard was disappointing so I think you might be better off opting for one of their sweet, non-soft serve waffle creations instead. I am not sure if I would like any of their sweet waffles, but I might come back to give the waffle and fried chicken sandwich a try. What a genius idea! Sadly though, the FC&WS fell short in the flavor department. Even with the added maple syrup, it was very bland. The cole slaw was bland and there was not enough of it to add anything to the sandwich. I could see the glistening of the syrup and could feel the stickiness but I didn't taste it much. The chicken was tender and juicy but there was a seasoning in the breading that I did not like at all and actually made it not appealing to eat. Towards the end I left off the chicken and just ate the waffle. The Cheeseburger Waffle Sandwich was the one I expected the least from but stole the spotlight at this meal. Somehow the waffle as a "bun" worked. At first it was odd but it was really really good and I had no problem finishing my half. The meat was a juicy medium and the classic toppings (lettuce, tomato, pickle, mayo) worked. I would totally order this one again. The waffles themselves were very good. Made to order they were light, airy, crispy and had good buttermilk flavor. Their waffle fries were also really good and seasoned just right with salt and pepper. We didn't get any of their sweet waffles as we had dessert plans elsewhere but as you can see from the review below this one we should have had dessert here. Jars of nutella lined the shelves inside. And the PB&J waffle is now calling my name. According to the gal out front greeting everyone their Hot Chocolate is the talk of the town. They also have floats, shakes and frozen custard. If you like Root Beer then I would recommend skipping it from here. At first sip both Isabel and I were like umm this is gross. It was bad to the point of I wanted to ask to switch it for a coke but the cup is so big I felt bad wasting all that sodie. I took a peak at the menu and it said all sodas are pure cane sugar sodies so that may have had something to do with the odd taste of this root beer. Dining at this little road stand is outside only. Perfect for a hot summer day or sunny day in spring but not so good on a "finally its chilly" December night. Street parking was plentiful and there was not a meter in site. Being from El Lay we snagged the first free street spot we saw. We ended up parking a block away which was not bad but in turn arrive at our destination seeing their own parking lot! We thought, Man the city of Orange has it made with parking! No do you validate or leave your keys with the valet in this town. Actually, Leave those quarters at home! Who would have thought a gourmet waffle establishment would ever blow up as big as Bruxie did? As soon as the ordering windows of this very cramped waffle joint opened, they instantly became a hit! Swarmed since the beginning by college students, Bruxie became big after introducing their new take on a sandwich by using their unique Belgian Waffle as bread for classic sandwiches such as Tuna and Pastrami. Unlike most sweet waffles, Bruxie makes sure each waffle is light, crispy, and non sweet so it could go with both Savory items like their Buttermilk Fried Chicken or Sweet dessert items like their Seasonal Creme Brulee or the smooth Wisconsin Frozen Custard to top off the waffle! The only way this first Bruxie was able to go was up. In the few years Bruxie has been around, they have opened up six more stores and expanded their menu. Salads along with more sandwiches and desserts were added to broaden their range of customers. Customers seem to enjoy just about any item on the menu. As for sandwiches in my opinion, their Hot Pastrami is so simple but so savory and delicious! Depending on the salads, most are overpriced and unsatisfying like the Classic Caesar. If you're wanting more flavor and bang for your buck, go with the Grilled Chicken Cobb! Desserts are a different story! Everyone has at least a small sweet tooth. Took my two finicky daughters (6 & 12) to Bruxie after a basketball game yesterday. I've seen some pretty mixed reviews of this place but I was in the mood for something different and knowing that both of my girls are big waffle fans I figured we couldn't go wrong. Waffles at a place with a cute Hello Kitty kind of name on a great summer evening. We lucked out as I was able to park right across the street and there was only a few people in line when we arrived. The line was 20+ deep by the time we left. While in line one of the staff there asked us if we'd been here before. I told him no and asked him what was good to eat. He told me that the Chicken& Waffle and the burger were the most popular but he was burned out on them and preferred the pastrami or the cheesy Bruxies. Cool I like pastrami. So by the time we go to the window we kind of had it figured out. Food & Drinks: I ordered the Hot Pastrami Bruxie #6 Got the Buttermilk Fried Chicken & Waffle #12 Got the Bacon Egg & Cheddar One order of Waffle Cut Fries to share 3-16oz Strawberry Lemonades The Pastrami ($7.95) was very good , I liked the spicy mustard and the sandwich thin sliced pickles, could have skipped the slaw and added more cheese or pastrami IMO but the waffle add a nice touch with its crunchy buttermilk taste and the way it held the whole deal together despite the slaw making it a little too wet. It would have been 5 stars without the slaw, and more cheese. 4 star **** Chicken & Waffle ($6.95) probably not a good choice for a 6 year old, but hey she picked it. She only liked the waffle (should have asked for no slaw) and didn't care for the chicken. I tried a couple of bites of the whole deal and a bite of chicken only. I agree this is a crap sammy. The kid has taste. The chickens coating has a bad taste and the slaw sucks. Go to Rosco's for the real deal. Service was pretty good and quick too, but they were in a hurry to take away almost empty plates, kind if felt like they wanted to make room for new customers ASAP. Also skimpy on napkins. This place has a license to print money at this location hope the greed doesn't ruin the business for them. I have not visited this particular location yet but the idea of sandwiches on waffles sounded interesting enough to try. I visited the (former) Irvine location. Clever pairing of ingredients, fresh and great flavors, thumbs up! Sorry to see the Irvine location gone but will try this location in Orange. Here's the best part, I think. For the past year, or so it it seems, every single day one of my yelp friends is writing a review on Bruxie. Some love it and others think it's so-so. Bruxie! Bruxie! Bruxie! I see it over and over, the name pelting me mercilessly like rocks thrown by the neighborhood bully. Has everyone on planet earth eaten here except me? I was tired of feeling left out so made a special trip to see what all the hype and hoopla was about. I walked up to the ordering window feeling like this place really had to prove itself - I wasn't going to go easy on them. I decided to try both savory and sweet so I ordered a seasonal special Pastrami Bruxie and also a S'mores Bruxie. The handful of tables were taken so I stood at the counter at the side of the building. That was my preference anyway as I was alone and wanted to people watch while I ate. In less than 5 minutes my name was called and a friendly young fellow delivered my food. First of all, I have to say that seeing a waffle just makes me smile. Whoever thought of making sandwiches using waffles was brilliant enough to know that happiness is contained in a waffle. The federal deficit could be eliminated in one year if they printed tax forms on waffles - we would all pay more than our share of taxes with a smile. Okay, I know I've gone too far. The Pastrami Bruxie consisted of Boar's Head pastrami, gruyere, spicy brown mustard, cider slaw and sliced pickle. The pastrami was tender and tasty - all the flavors blended perfectly (even the slaw, which I'm no fan of). Of course the waffle was masterfully done; firm so it wouldn't fall apart yet soft in the mouth with a crunch on the outside. How do they consistently make perfect waffles? I must admit it was a great sandwich. The S'mores Bruxie had melted chocolate and marshmallow with bits of graham cracker wrapped in a waffle. Rich and sweet and wonderful. The waffle had powdered sugar sprinkled on top which I managed to get all over my face, black trousers, and the counter. A young woman came to clean the counter when I was at my messiest and she just looked at me and laughed. I also got a vanilla cream soda which was good but nothing special. I tried hard to come up with negatives to keep this from getting high marks but there really wasn't anything except maybe the parking. You pretty much have to park in a public lot, the closest being two or three blocks away but I actually welcomed the walk after putting away all that waffley goodness. Was in the area and my friend mentioned a $5 deal for chicken tenders if you show a Facebook post. At first, there were only 2-3 other customers when we arrived to order food. There was a very nice worker who asked us if we had any questions. He answered our questions about the desserts and suggested the Nutella and banana waffles. I ordered two 4 piece chicken tenders and waffle-cut fries, Nashville style and Buffalo Style. Even though the menu said 4 piece, both orders came with 5! The Nashville style tenders were crispy and peppery and came with pickles and ranch on the side. The buffalo tenders were tangy and also came with ranch. The Nutella and banana waffles were more like a sweet sandwhich. It had a light lemon cream in addition to the Nutella and banana slices which helped balanced out the sweetness. The crispy, tasty waffle held it all together. The nice worker brought people their food and went around asking if people needed refills on their drinks or anything else with their meal. He even brought ketchup, syrup, napkins, etc to people even though customers could easily get up and get it themselves from the condiment table. My friend and I really enjoyed our meal, especially for the price. Total came out to around $16 for the two of us including dessert. Despite the rainy weather, the place was very busy around noon, and people were waiting for tables. read more

I hope I'm not jumping the gun, but Bruxie definitely deserves my 5 stars! Came here on a whim when we missed the closing time for Anepalco's (chilaquiles!). It was close by and pretty easy to find. We parked a couple streets down (where the Perfect Circle Cupcakery is) and walked over. I love the area, it has such a hometown feel. The place itself is quite small but very adorable. I can see how you have to fight for seats at peak hours. They even had those water mists going to cool you off in the hot heat! Awesome (and thoughtful!) idea, but I hope the water's clean since it gets all up in your food while you're eating :P The servers here are suuper friendly and highly highly recommended the pulled pork sandwich, so we decided to go with the Carolina BBQ Pulled Pork ($7.95) and the Strawberry Creme Brulee (both seasonal items). Wow, so did not regret our choices! The minute they brought this out to our table, I was amazed. The strawberry creme brulee ($4.95) is a great portion for the price and it is dang delicious. It comes with a creamy custard with bits of caramelized sugar and sweet sweet strawberries. I'm a messy eater so the sweet cream kept squishing out when I took a bite, but it was so good I couldn't just leave it there! I scooped it all up and back in my mouth it went! Mmm, lip smacking delicious. The waffle itself is nice and crispy, providing a great crunch with every bite. Not soggy in the least! Nam didn't know what to expect with these waffle sandwiches, but he was very pleasantly surprised with the pulled pork. It was every bit as good as they made it out to be. It comes with some cole slaw sitting on a bed of a juicy flavorful pulled pork, along with a side of tangy sauce and pickle that adds the perfect crunch! We added some sriracha too which was such an excellent idea, I'm surprised I never thought of adding sriracha to BBQ before! Again, the waffle itself was perfect, not too soft or soggy, but just the right amount of crispness to make the whole thing come together. We walked away super happy and satisfied. I can't wait to come back and try the rest of the menu. I admit the sandwiches are a bit pricey (except the strawberry creme brulee :P) but they are so worth every bite. Yatta for Bruxie! read more

Finally! After months of listening to my friend Cammie D. rave about this place... the fam and I finally made the trek to the City of Orange to stuff our faces at Bruxie. I guess I am not as good of a Yelper as I thought I was. I should have Yelped Bruxie prior to my visit. Then, maybe, I would not have been surprised to see a food stand with limited seating. My bad... hahahaha. I tried the buttermilk fried chicken waffle with chili honey and cole slaw. It was very simple but delicious nonetheless. I wish they added more chili honey to enhance the flavor. The waffle itself is not sweet or overbearing at all. My two kids shared a S'mores waffle. You can never go wrong with s'mores when it comes to my 3- and 5- year old. They both ate their half as quickly as they could. Luke S. ordered the strawberry creme brûlée waffle. He commented that this was GOOOOD. He was shocked that the waffle had caramelized raw sugar. The custard was okay... he wished that it was more vanilla flavored. The service was great! As we were standing in line, one of the employees came by to ask if it were our first time at Bruxie and if we had any questions. Another plus was the fast service. This place is busy... but we still got our order within 5 to 10 minutes. The only thing that bugged me was their lack of drink choices. They offer sodas, hot tea, coffee, and some pricey strawberry lemonade. Maybe ice tea or non-soda fountain drink choices would be great. Other than that, everything was great... We will definitely be back to try the other waffle combos. Quick Tip: Apparently, the stand itself has been around for years. Due to the old piping, there aren't any restrooms. read more

Bruxie has been on my radar for far too long, so during my visit to the OC, I made it a priority to check them out. Service was solid, but I am absolutely in love with the two waffles I chose. Smoked salmon and chive cream cheese was amazing, but the berry and lemon curd waffle stole my heart. Based on those alone I give this place five stars. The berry and lemon curd flavors were so good I could eat this all day, every day. I love the quaint outdoor seating and all the varieties promise that there is indeed something for everyone. We need one of these in Vegas ASAP! read more
