I have been here once before, and it was great. Just went there Sunday for lunch, and it was not the same experience. I ordered the sirloin medium rare and when I got the steak it was well done. Waitress took it back, and they brought me back another steak, with an extra piece, that wasn't medium rare, but medium so I didn't mind much. The problem was that there was no crust, it was like a sweaty, slimy piece of gray steak. I feel they tried to make up for the fact by adding more food, which wasn't what I wanted. I just wanted a good steak. I want to give this place another go, and maybe get the ribeye this time, but I was very disappointed. read more

I would leave 0 stars the only difference from the last time I visited was the fact that they had a fire happen so they had to shut down for a rebuild inside which I might add makes the place look better than it did before but nice decor and updating the interior doesn't change the way the food is still made or tastes it's still has the feeling that they cater to only the elders in town cause the food is mushy flavorless stale I asked for a med well steak and got a well done steak instead even ordered a kids plate chicken nuggets and we paid $9 for my sons plate and he got a boatload of fries a piece of bread and 3 chicken nuggets only I would understand if it was steak fingers cause every restaurant does 3 steak fingers but 3 nuggets for almost $10 definitely a waste of time and a waste of money tbh would never come back and the last visit I had I was 16 I'm now 25 either update your menu or get better cooks read more

Saw the line out the door and decent reviews so we decided to try it. I had the rancher sirloin and it was good. My son had the belle sirloin and liked it but it was over cooked from the medium rare he ordered. For years.. has been my go to place. Today...was not what I'm used to. I ordered a ribeye...as did the other two at my table. It was delivered and presented as a ribeye, but as soon as I cut into it, I realized it was NOT a ribeye. I ate a few bites and wasn't going to make a big deal, but as our server was at our table, I informed her...really not wanting to make a big deal. She said "oh" and walked off. I only ate about a third of the steak...sent it home with my friend for his dog. I'm more incensed about her lack of interest than anything...I may go back but I'll be an ASS if they screw it up next time. Wife had several people talk about how good the steaks were, so I decided to give it a try. $15.10 Ribeye, hands down a Standard Choice Steak which is the lowest cut available, over seasoned with salt so bad I couldn't eat the steak. Wife's Ranger Sirloin was over seasoned also, but a little better cut of meat. Grandkids got Chicken Fried Steak and Popcorn Shrimp they said it was good. Salad bar was very good. The server getting refills was excellent. They don't take any type of card also, had to go find an ATM, nearest one is Market Street and Ave Q. But for $62.00 for 4 meals ya get what ya pay for. We ate there tonight based on reviews. We are completely puzzled. The ribeye steak was just plain weird... strange texture, gray color and very salty. It seemed like the steak had been sitting in a brine for 2 days. I ordered my ribeye medium and it was completely gray through the whole steak. The ribeye was very thin at only about .5 inches at it's thickest point. The baked potato was fine. Salad bar had some options but was basic. I guess this place is OK if you're just looking for value but it was FAR from a good steak. Would not recommend if you have ever had a really great steak to compare it to. read more

This place has really great steaks for a really good price. The prices for the steaks were roughly around 12 to $15 for about 10 to 15 oz. Decides are unlimited but you do get only one plate so make sure you get a little bit of Everything. read more

The 1st clue should have been that they offer a "filetSteak" for $13.30 including fries salad bar and ice cream cones - the good news is that the salad bar is good. Clearly this place has a lot of regulars that know better than me what to order. On the bright side the staff are wonderful - a very young waitress went above and beyond to make sure I was happy - she couldn't have been better if her family owned the place. I would go back - but I'd find a regular to guide me as to the best steak to order. Stopped at this no frills steakhouse while passing through Lubbock on a road trip. Initially attracted by the large bull outside the restaurant I soon realized that the parking lot was absolutely packed and overflowing to the closed business next door. Stepping inside there was a line and the restaurant was full. The steak was made nicely and flavorful. I already made a review in the past but this one is for my husband. He said that it's the best stake he ever had and to ask everyone who will read this to do the dull knife test. He is so amazed how he's able to cut the steak real easily using the dull side of the knife and how the meat melt in your mouth. Their price is so affordable compared to other steakhouses. This is a throwback...an old school steakhouse. My ribeye was cooked as ordered and the baked potato was nice and soft. Simple salad bar with several additional sides- green beans, pinto beans and really tasty fried okra. OK I have seen some bad reviews here. Well I've been coming here for 30 years and I've eaten at some high end expensive places. Like $250 dollar steaks in Vegas and Hawaii. Having said that I order the Rib eye medium and I have never been disappointed! Cooked right and tender with great flavor and the price is amazing! I don't live here in Lubbock, a good thing because I would be here more often. But when we are in town or traveling through, I'll stop in and eat. Place closed waiting for the city to sign off on all the permits after a fire and a complete remodel of this Restaurant, I am Hungry!! Great service and a personal touch. I speak to the owners every time I am there as well. As for the bad reviews I've seen those are most likely from people who are never pleased with anything and stay mad at the world. From the salad bar, potato salad was tangy and tasty, macaroni salad was flavorful, coleslaw was similar to what you get at Popeyes. Green beans, corn, and okra were standard. Sweet pea salad was not so good. My wife's chicken friend steak bland, but decent, although heavily doused with cream gravy. My ribeye was perfectly medium rare, nicely salted, with little to no other seasoning. Baked potatoes were perfect, with plenty butter and flavor. For the $38 price tag, the meal was well worth it. The atmosphere is pretty basic, as expected, and was somewhat marred by some of the patrons, which the restaurant had little to no control over. Tipping was not requested or presented as an option, and yet servers provided drink refills and were polite. I'll eat here again. My star rating is mostly a result of the atmosphere, which was plagued by poorly mannered children and careless parents allowing their three year olds to attempt to serve themselves at the salad bar. It's almost fair of me, but I suspect the crowd is often similar. Overall, they are trying hard. read more

Well we found this place on Yelp as we were nearing Lubbock on the Yelp map! Went off freeway a piece but worth it!! Glad I read a few reviews cause of cash and checks only. So two thumbs up to those folks! We ordered both the Rancher ribeye with baked potato. Did salad bar. It has enuf to interest ya. Some warm vegis along with some salad mixes and the ref shredded salad and fixings. Almost got the salad down and our steaks came!! Wow it smelled great. Our drink girl kept a comin round too!! came in on a crowded Tuesday evening. the younger brunette manager was super nice and super cute and answered all of my family's questions about the menu. ordered the filet and it came out super tender. but unfortunately my family was made VERY uncomfortable by another manager - the blonde woman with horrible makeup. she was rude and obnoxious, and then the old man owner racially profiled us before escorting us out. My wife and son and I have become regulars here recently. I can say confidently that you will not find a better value for steak anywhere. The menu selection includes several delicious steak choices, also chicken and fish, and nothing costs more than $15. All dinners include baked potato or fries and unlimited trips to the salad bar, which includes several sides like beans and fried okra. (If you want sour cream and cheese for your baked potato that's also on the salad bar). The decor is sort of rustic old west cowboy, and I like that there's not a TV showing sports anywhere in sight. You order your food at the counter, and if you get there right at dinner time the line can be pretty long. Also be sure to bring cash because they DO NOT take plastic or checks. As busy as this place is, the staff is friendly and good about bringing drink refills and making sure you have everything you need. read more

We had dinner here yesterday and it was very good. I had the Southern Belle Steak and my wife had fried shrimp. Both dishes were cooked properly and the baked potato was also fresh and moist. Unassuming, but so good. Inexpensive steaks that are to die for! Usually get the Southern Belle Sirloin and it is so good. Exceptionally tender and flavorful. The baked potato and salad bar can't be beat. The bacon bits are old-school crunchy bacon bits that you buy in the grocery store. Reminds me of childhood. The steak was deliciously seasoned and cooked perfectly to order. The chicken fried steak was tender, perfect breading. The "salad bar" was a fun and delicious throw back to my Arkansas grandma's kitchen - delicious black eyed pea salad, marinated carrot salad, fried okra, pickled okra, lots of other choices - and ambrosia to top it all off. On a recent road trip across the western United States, my Mother and I stopped in Lubbock after a lengthy day of driving. After acquiring our lodgings for the night, we set out to find something to dine on, and we beheld an enormous fiberglass bovine looming on the horizon. The hand-painted flame job on the sign and the quaint wood siding beckoned us nearer. We found a spot (in the blissfully full parking lot) and, as they say, "moseyed in". Once entering the restaurant, we headed down an inexplicable hallway past some even more inexplicable "art" (possibly purchased at a Hobby Lobby?) and to a sign that read: "PLEASE" Do not seat yourself before placing your order All questionable punctuation choices aside, we walked to the counter where we were greeted by an especially chipper teenage girl and an astonishingly cheap menu. Never in my life have I been to a eatery that boasts a sirloin steak under 9 dollars. After recovering from the shock of such competitive rates on slabs of meat, we placed our order only to be even more shocked by the fact that they only accept cash and check. Wondering when we had wondered into the wormhole that transported us back to the 90's, we had the girl hold our order while we went to hold up the KFC that lies next door. After scaring the love of god into a few bewildered fast food customers and a very stoned cashier, we returned to Bryan's and picked up our salad plates. As we headed to what may possibly be the most interesting salad bar I have ever crossed paths with, we noticed that there was a complimentary soft serve machine. Taking mental note of this, I gazed upon what I can only describe as "mushed things arranged in containers". The finely chopped iceberg was a bit mushy, and past the salad related end of the bar (see: carrots, tomatoes, croutons, and 4 different ranch-based dressings) was the what I will assume they call the "brick a brack" section where you could scoop up anything from nachos to pudding pie. I sprang for the cole-slaw, ambrosia and the pickled ocra. We sat down with our bizarre salads and the steak and potato came in due time. I cannot say enough good things about the steak (cooked perfectly, appropriately tender, good flavor) but the "salad" and cole-slaw were controversial. The teenage staff was well trained and was very persistent about keeping our teas filled. After finishing the steaks, and giving the salad a college try we decided to grab our soft serves to go.
