This iteration of Los Cuates doesn't come even close to the original on Lomas. I hadn't been there…read morein several years. but had occasion to have dinner there recently, and it was--in a word--terrible. The management needs to realize that not everyone who walks in the door is a devoteé of fiery food, and the salsa with the chips was very much too hot, even for my friend who loves "hot stuff." Not only that, but it is "sweet" and has a very different and unpleasant taste. My chicken burrito was dry and the tortilla wrapping the chicken was so tough that I had to use a knife to cut the bites. The beans are really good, and I enjoyed them (I don't eat rice, so I got to eat a double dose). Even the sopapilla was so tough I couldn't bite it---I had to tear off pieces to be able to eat it. Once "burned", twice shy. I did not enjoy my experience and won't be back.

Leaving off an entire entree and bringing us something else we didn't even order. So after waiting for 45 minutes for food, our friends couldn't eat because their food still hadn't been delivered. Manager comes over apologized, rushed the food orders. They finally come, okay cool. We ask to split the check, it's wrong. He goes back to fix the check, it's still wrong. My friend says it's fine I'll just pay for this and I said yeah I'll Venmo you. The manager comes back out with our card, and said we "accidentally " got charged 72$ instead of 40 whatever.... He says we will see the two charges the 72 and 40 and the 72 will be refunded. No discount no nothing after completely screwing up our order. Many others have complained about service previously but this is the first time ours was abysmal.

THE REVIEW REMAINS VALID BUT THEY ARE OUT OF BUSINESS. Sometimes the newspaper gets it right. A nice review in the Albuquerque Journal enticed the boys from the VA Creative Writing Group to venture along 4th Street, NW, to a relatively new eating establishment. Everyone tried something different, and everyone wants to come back. Good food. Order at the counter. Nice tchotchkes (good ambiance). I stopped by for lunch and found the menu offered a nice variety of choices. I ordered the Los Ranchos Turkey sandwich with homemade chips and a Lavender Iced Tea. Both were flavorful, and the homemade chips were an unexpected treat. The iced tea was ready right away and was a refreshing complement to the meal. My sandwich arrived about 24 minutes after ordering, which may have been due to the lunch rush. Including tip, lunch came to about $30. While the price point felt a little high for the overall experience, the quality and flavor of the food helped balance that out. Overall, I enjoyed the food and appreciate having another locally owned option in the neighborhood.

Finally got the chance to try the Birria Tacos from Fuego 505- and they did not disappoint…read more Personally I've always thought nothing can top Los Pookies, but I feel these are in a different lane. Wildly different while still being so freaking amazing. There's a certain spice or something that they use in the Birria that hits just right. That's the only true way I can explain it. I can't tell if the 'consume' is chili or what from here? At Los Pookies it seems to be like a broth, but here is a thicker & spicier sauce which compliments the tacos so well. (please let me know!). It gets quite busy in here especially with it being setup as more of a sports bar, with the TV's and such. They have a shaded patio which I believe also may have a TV* (don't quote me on this part) . All the servers I have had have shown great hospitality. I will continue to return. -- Follow up before I post.. Last time I was here and it was really busy (like 30 min wait busy cuz of whatever game), I was feeling dizzy and they gave me water and a chair & made sure I was okay.. I feel especially this day and age is not something you see ever or expect. So thank you.

Tried again to go have a drink and some appetizers here…read more Quesadilla was ok, much better at other places. Was not crispy, cubed chicken inside was dry, was hoping for some guac but only came with some tomato tasting salsa. Here's the thing for the nachos. The ingredients individually were good, you can tell it's quality. However all together the flavors did not mesh well. Had queso, shredded cheese and Cojita. The asada was tender and good but the red sauce they make and put on top was not very good. Can't say I'll be rushing back anytime soon. Especially for the cost. But is a cool place to hang out at the bar for a drink.
