Funny enough as I arrived at the Taylor Ranch Dr. location, after leaving the Coors Rd. location I heard a group mention "the one on coors ..." I asked if they were talking about the Garcia's. The person who answered for the group said "yes," chuckling. I said "do you like it?" He responded "no." I said "how funny, I just left there because of the terrible service." Although the parking lot was full, I got front row parking and my party and I only waited 10 minutes to be seated :) I had a stuffed sopapilla for under $10. We thought we would have a quick dinner before going to the movies across the street.Everytime we drive past, we always said we need to check out Garcia's. Well, tonight we did. It was very causal inside and we were told to pick our own table from the mostly empty restaurant. The place has been in business for 50 years and the decor looked very outdated.. We were greeted and ordered our beverages. I had sweet tea and something about it tasted "off". The chips of the chips and salsa tasted stale. I ordered the chili relleno and asked for rice only, no beans. I had clarified this with our waitress when ordering because when she repeated back the order, she messed up. I was served it with beans, and asked her to take it away and bring back with what I had ordered. I got it now with rice. They were small 2 very small relleno and nothing special. Not much cheese inside. My dinner mate enjoyed the chicken tacos and took most home. Now that I have eaten here, I can say "One and done." read more

There's only one or two places in town with worse new Mexican food, bit Garcia's is consistent at being disgusting. Over the years I try to return to any of the locations and all are disappointing. It's now worse how they nickel and dime you for every single add-on and also make you pay for chips and salasa. The food looks good but it's soggy and not good. The pancakes are decent. Always love coming here when I am visiting the Albuquerque area. The food is so fresh and so good. I've only been for breakfast. Had the omelette with bacon and whole beans the first few times. Loved it. The beans are so good. This last time I had a stuffed sopapilla which was pretty good. Love the green chile. Always spicy but never too spicy. And the flavor of the green chile is so good. I used to love Garcia's. Their catering is always good, but our most recent visit to the Coors/La Orilla location has put Garcia's on our no-go list. We went on Sunday around 1:30, hoping the lunch rush had slowed down--and it had. The place was a ghost town. We ordered lunch: 2 cheese enchilada plates for the adults, a side of refried beans and a tortilla for the youngest, and the picky-as-ever 8 year-old ordered a cheeseburger. The enchilada plates were good. Lots of chile, not enough cheese, but still good flavor. The littlest one happily ate his beans and tortilla--which was pretty close to a homemade tortilla (yum!). The 8 year old was complaining that his burger was gross. This is typical, so I reached over and took a bite. The kid wasn't lying. It tasted like the meat was rotten. We let our server know, who let the manager know. The manager told us that the kitchen was closed, so we wouldn't be able to get anything else ordered. The kitchen was closed? At 2 on a Sunday?! What?!! We didn't know the restaurant closed at 3 on Sundays--that explains why the restaurant was empty. We felt bad for coming so close to closing--but we got there 90 minutes before the closing time. We asked if we could get another side of beans and a tortilla to replace the burger. We were reminded that the kitchen was closed. I figured that if they sold packages of day-old tortillas at the register that the likelihood of leftover tortillas from the day would be in our favor, you know, since the kitchen was closed. We were told that the leftover tortillas were already bagged--but we could buy a dozen if we wanted to. AND they were out of beans. Growing up in a New Mexican household, running out of beans is practically impossible, so a restaurant saying they were out of beans was a shock to me. My SO and I hadn't had more than a few bites of our food, and we were given the check. We were told they needed to close out all bills and we needed to pay right away. The rotten burger was still on the bill. We asked about the charge, and we were told that the manager was on her break and couldn't change the ticket. SO paid the bill and we continued eating. So my picky-pants kid had to share a side of beans and tortilla with the little one who had already consumed half of their food while the grown ups ate with the sounds of our server operating a vacuum cleaner right next to us. We finished as quickly as we could and left. Generally speaking, service at most ABQ eateries has gone downhill, but our visit to this Garcia's location was by far the worst experience ever. read more

I saw a slogan on the menu along the lines of them treating you like family. They didn't specify what level of family because I felt like a distant cousin. I am new to Albuquerque and have been taken aback by the amount of kindness in every establishment I've visited. This place fell short. We didn't get our complete order, but I did enjoy my nacho plate. My husband was less than impressed with his burrito because it was drowning in sauce. I'd order the nachos again, but not at this location. What appeared to be the manager felt the need to wear a mask, yet she had her pants sagging so low, we had to be exposed to her underwear and butt cheek. I don't understand....you cover your face, but not your behind in a food establishment. She had a little attitude, too. No greeting, rude to the hostess who was actually friendly and tried to be accommodating (I think I heard the hostess state she's new). The manager lady did seem to perk up and get flirty when one lady came in, but otherwise she gave off awful vibes and needs to reevaluate for employment choices. Management sets the expectations and she only seemed focused on fashion statements and flirting- doing her actual job seems to create anger/disinterest. As we walked out to leave, there was cash left sitting, unattended at the to go register adding to the "I don't care, I don't want to be here" feel. I wouldn't be shocked if someone swiped it. The first time we ate here was for an afternoon meal, today it's Sunday morning breakfast. There is a definite difference between the 2 different times. So it was the Chorizo con Huevos Omelet style and the Menudo. The chorizo was ok - a little too salty tasting. The menudo was great. So Dirty!!! We walk in and it's so quite with no music. It was so quite and uncomfortable lol The seats were so gross and dirty, which is cool cuz sometimes stuff get dirty no big deal right? Nope there's tons of dust all over the table area our forks were still dirty. There's a big trash can right next to us that's full where they throw all the trash from the dirty trays there. In the middle of the balloon festival, I called Garcias to prepare a catering order to deliver to a loved one who recently lost a family member. Garcias was quick, flexible and most importantly tasty. On her day off, the catering manager personally delivered the food - no questions asked on a same day large order. Within hours I had a text and a call from my loved one raving about how Garcias has been a family favorites forever and was so impressed with the cheese and chicken enchiladas tasting the same at home. I have to say I was surprised when Village Inn closed and this placed opened. We have a Garcia's just a few miles away up La Orilla rd. Anyway we went here and it was okay. The service was good and quick. The main gripe was the prices were about 2-4 dollars more than the Garcia's up the road in Taylor ranch. I ordered the Chile relleno which was very tasty. All in all it was alright. Next time I would just go to the Taylor ranch Location instead. read more

We like this location, laughed that it still has a Village Inn vibe. Our favorite is the Huevos Rancheros. It's hard to choose anything else though if I don't have menudo I'm bringing some home for later. I'll even go so far as to say I like their refried beans and papas cause they taste homemade. The service and staff are great. Friendly and attentive. The food has always been good. That is until today (and I'm hoping management sees this). It was an unusual morning, I woke craving steak and eggs for breakfast. I normally wake with no idea what I want for breakfast. We checked out some places on Yelp, decided on Garcia's. The sad thing is today my desire for steak and eggs was a bust. I ordered my steak medium rare, eggs over medium. What I got was a leather hard over cooked steak. I called our waitress over and she was most helpful. (She was very apologetic the whole time, though I don't blame her for what happens in the kitchen). Now I could understand if it was cooked medium and I would have probably eaten it. But it was to the point of toughness and grey colored meat, I just couldn't. So another steak arrives. I must have pissed off the kitchen. I think the steak did touch the flat top grill for a few seconds rendering a slight appearance of having been cooked but the inside, cold and raw, not rare but raw meat. Our waitress returned and was shocked when I showed her the inside of said steak. I told her not to bother I would eat the rest of my plate, which now was cold eggs, beans and potatoes. (I did bring the steak home, heck they charged me $18!!). The price alone made me think it was going to be a good breakfast. Lesson learned, don't have a craving unless you've actually eaten the item before. Or someone gives a good recommendation. read more

I went in and got a burrito to go. My order was wrong so I called to see what they could do for me. Basically the only thing the Manager Janelle was willing to do for me was force me to drive all the way back. She was extremely rude to me. I told her I don't have time to come back because I need to eat and then get to work so I asked if I could get a refund and her response was "so you're gonna eat the food and you want you're money back". No I don't want a free meal. I want what I ordered and that's not what I got. It is not my responsibility to drive all the way back to your business just because you made a mistake. Considering I've been playing this review game for the better part of a decade and posted 1600+ of 'em, the fact that I've never posted a review of Garcia's Kitchen (seven ABQ locations) should be telling. When it comes to New Mexican cuisine, there's a lot to choose from, and Garcia's just doesn't pop up in my mental rolodex when I'm craving chile 'n rice 'n everything nice. But Garcia's will do in a hankering. The fact that they serve a "honey sauce" (blasphemy!) alongside their sopapillas is nearly a dealbreaker, but the prices are right, and you can always get your grub to-go and slather those greasy pillows in your own fancy clover honey at home. That's what we did. This location, which recouped a failed Village Inn, was a somewhat welcome sight in my backyard, and it was inevitable we'd give it a go. Reviews out of the gate referenced poor service and inaccurate orders, but we experienced the opposite. Efficient, friendly employees, the order was hot and ready at the quoted time, it all worked out. I can't rave about the food, but it was fine. I did note that this stuff kinda "stuck with me" a few hours later, if you know where I'm coming from, but I will say this, these peeps make a good chicharrón: about the size of tofu squares, they're a mouthful, tough but not overly fried, salty but no overdose, you'll be gnawing through those bad boys slowlike. My 87 year old grandma was visiting from out of town so we took her out for brunch. As we got there a group of six was waiting but because their party was not all there they had to wait the server asked if we were all there. I told her yes and she took us to a table as we were about to sit the manager walked over and asked the server what she was doing.... Did not let us sit and made us go back and wait only to go sit us down at the same table a minute later. She has no people skills, rude. After we sat we notice the manager walking around with her pants down and her butt showing it was so inappropriate with my little sister pointing it out and we had to ask our server to go tell her to pull her pants up. read more
