    Chicharrones Burrito

I've been to a few other Garcia's restaurants in town, but I have not been to this one yet when I came in the person at the front was extremely friendly and helped me right away and I had to say the burrito was phenomenal and I really really enjoyed it And there's a reason why Garcia has been around for so long in this town. They are really good.

Breakfast Burrito smothered in Christmas and Carnitas with eggs over easy smothered in green. Small side of chicharrones.

Andy Garcia's legacy lives on. He started Garcia's in 1975 and the family continues on with several restaurants scattered around Albuquerque. Today we ate at the Coors location. My wife had the breakfast burrito with bacon smothered in Christmas. I went for my standard Carnitas and eggs over easy smothered in Green with a homemade flour tortilla. A small side of chicharrones rounded out our meals. Bam Garcia's continues to deliver quality food almost 50 years after opening.

Stopped on here on a Saturday afternoon. The place was clean and the service was fantastic. The food came out pretty fast and was hot and fresh. My wife had the Flautas and they were definitely home made. They tasted great. I had the Huevos Al Mexicano. That was also delicious and had just the right amount of spice. Definitely give this place a try

Always love coming here when I am visiting the Albuquerque area. The food is so fresh and so good. I've only been for breakfast. Had the omelette with bacon and whole beans the first few times. Loved it. The beans are so good. This last time I had a stuffed sopapilla which was pretty good. Love the green chile. Always spicy but never too spicy. And the flavor of the green chile is so good. Looking forward to returning. Next time I am getting some Carne Adovado.

Carne adovada breakfast, pint of chicharrones (always) and a fajita burrito!

The first time we ate here was for an afternoon meal, today it's Sunday morning breakfast. There is a definite difference between the 2 different times. So it was the Chorizo con Huevos Omelet style and the Menudo. The chorizo was ok - a little too salty tasting. The menudo was great. A little greasy (expected) but not overly so, well spiced and with a nice amount of pansa. Service was great considering how busy it was. We'll be back for breakfast.

Garcias is OK Mexican food, it's not the best in town - it's also not the worst. It's pretty consistent normal Mexican-American fair. However if you don't order off the menu, and you ask them for a fish taco, Be prepared for an unexpected treat! They are TASTY! however if you come on a Sunday night at 7pm, and you happen to be driving by and you see not one, not two, but THREE "open" signs in the window, AND a tv on, and you think "oh it's pretty dark, but it looks like they're open..." and you pull into the parking lot... THEY ARE NOT OPEN! A-holes

Leaving off an entire entree and bringing us something else we didn't even order. So after waiting for 45 minutes for food, our friends couldn't eat because their food still hadn't been delivered. Manager comes over apologized, rushed the food orders. They finally come, okay cool. We ask to split the check, it's wrong. He goes back to fix the check, it's still wrong. My friend says it's fine I'll just pay for this and I said yeah I'll Venmo you. The manager comes back out with our card, and said we "accidentally " got charged 72$ instead of 40 whatever.... He says we will see the two charges the 72 and 40 and the 72 will be refunded. No discount no nothing after completely screwing up our order. Many others have complained about service previously but this is the first time ours was abysmal.

Unfortunately, my take away was that the owners, maybe managers, are new in the restaurant management space. It feels like a lot of different ideas are happening but not converging as well as they could. The general impression I got was: confusion. A few specific issues stood out: * Friendly, enthusiastic counter service, but overworked, focused on too many tasks. * Drip coffee was not ready at 10 a.m. * About a 20-minute wait at the table for coffee to brew * Huevos were nicely presented but uneven in execution (papas flavorful but a little too salty, beans bland and unseasoned) * Outdoor seating is a nice idea, but tables felt small and cramped * Heavy direct sun on outdoor tables (limited shaded seating; north side might be worth exploring) * Exterior branding does not clearly communicate that this is a restaurant - feels more like branding for tattoo parlor/vapeshop/auto detailing * Overall concept feels pulled in too many directions * Menus are difficult to read (cramped text, color choice, and font) To the owners: I really hope you make this work. I would consider bringing in a consultant re service, hiring a graphic designer to up the branding/menu game, and focus on food consistency. It may be worth looking at books on customer service and restaurant psychology such as: * Service Design: From Insight to Implementation * The Science of Shopping * the Restaurant & Bar Marketing series by Erik Shellenberger I would love to delete this review and replace it with 5 stars in the future.

Every time I go here, Lavender Cocinita goes higher in my esteem. It's solid New Mexican cooking by…read morea skilled artisan - notably tastier than most local places _even in spite of_ the fact that no animal products are used in the chile. Yes, the chiles are vegan. (So are the beans - pressure-cooked to creamy tenderness.) Yes, they're delicious - both the red (from pods!) and the green. (And, yes, it's me - noted grumpy traditionalist who usually wants an extra scoop of bacon grease in pretty much every dish - who's writing that.) The room is small, but well thought-out. There are nice little two-top tables outside along the sidewalk/patio in this pleasant part of Los Ranchos de Albuquerque. Lavender Cocinita is popular, with a steady stream of folks coming in - but I've never had a problem getting seated and I've never felt rushed (even when sitting a while, jabbering in the chile afterglow). (Free parking is plentiful in the area, but a little weird in the Los Ranchos pedestrian area: your best bet might be trying for street parking on Tyler Road, the E/W street just N of the restaurant.) The chef is friendly and will answer questions. The counter folks have always been friendly and kind: checking on us periodically. Really nice folks. It's an order-at-the-counter/pay/take-a-seat/they-bring-it-to-you place, but the service is good enough that you'll kick yourself if you don't tip heavier than usual for such an arrangement. Get your own water at the counter. Food is cooked to order (perfectly in all my visits thus far) and will take a few minutes to get to your table, but you'll be happy. Portions are always large (I leave full, and I'm a big eater) and the cost is on the low edge of today's pricing. The chiles are real-deal: they tend to be notably more piquant than at most places in town but they're real chile and vary in heat with the batch being served (I am used to and appreciate heat and one time the green was HOT!). As noted, the flavors are just wonderful. Bear in mind, NM red and green chiles are relatively simple sauces with few components: the artistry of the chef and the quality of the ingredients are absolutely vital to the flavor impact of the finished product served - and Lavender Cocinita absolutely nails this. Foodies have written the place up over and over, and they've won awards that would impress folks in the know in the short time (less than two years) they've been open. Without being melodramatic, this place gives a serious-about-the-flavors vibe that reminds me of those noted in places that have won James Beard American Classic awards. Lavender Cocinita is a reasonably inconvenient drive for me, but every time I've made it I've driven back with a grin and a vow to do it again soon.

The sunrise burger is still one of hubby's favorites in the city, and the fries are incredible. I tried the High Point Mac & cheese (green chile mac w/steak sliced on top) and yowza. So much flavor, and the steak was perfectly tender. The restaurant has food nailed. And our server was amazing. Unfortunately, th manager did a poor job estimating how busy they'd be on a Friday night, so the two servers were running ragged. The manager pitched in, but they were playing catch up with the silverware and we had to wait for it when the food arrived. Which, no biggie, but it was a fork when I had steak and my husband had a messy burger. So we right away asked for knives. I pointed out my steak, and the manager got snarky with us like she got it. But then she brought us butter knives. When I got up and went to the bar to ask for a steak knife, her attitude was even faker. I don't abide fake when someone's eyes and mouth clearly say they think you're stupid or annoying or both. As a manager, you learn how to school your face and keep people happy or you don't last in management long. Also, if she miscalculated staffing, then it should have been her job to get into the bathrooms and keep them presentable. They weren't. Paper everywhere, and the walls need some serious touch ups. It's hard for people to trust the food safety if the job-food public areas aren't kept clean and well-maintained, you know? We'll be back because the food IS awesome and we always have an enjoyable meal. But they definitely need to turn an eye toward building upkeep and service.
