Maybe I'm a bit harsh I don't know... I came here because I was told it would taste like authentic Mexican food. Not New Mexican because that's a different flavor but Mexican the kind you get when you go to your abuelitas house. I was kind of disappointed. I went in for lunch and only had my debit card but the minimum to use it is $10 so there was that.. I ordered the shredded chicken torta which comes with lettuce, slice of tomato, slice of kraft cheese and avocado. It was ok not a lot of flavor in the chicken or anything else. Thankfully they added a small cup of green Chile salsa which I'm assuming was intended for my chicken burrito. That's all this was shredded chicken rolled in a flour tortilla with no additional seasoning or salsa. Even tho the menu said burrito smothered in salsa of choice... hmmm a tiny 2tbsp cup isn't exactly going to smother my burrito. Well this simple order took 20 mins to receive. So overall not my kind of food or place but i suppose it's always better to try it for yourself. read more

Loved finding this locally owned restaurant near the airport for lunch. The food was delicious and the service very friendly.

My friend just brought me a Molè butrito from here. The flour tortilla was soft and thin but sturdy enough to withhold the mushy molè. The Molè was spicy but in my perspective not too spicy. It was nice and sweet too. Sweet and spicy is the best combination for Molè. The chicken was a bit dry, but still very enjoyable to eat. Its shredded so you wont need to chomp at it. It gets a 4 because I wasnt involved in the service they provide. I love spicy molè so if you do I 100% recommend. read more

This is one of my favorite places to eat when we go to New Mexico. The chili is amazing! I usually get the breakfast burrito smothered in red and green chili, my boyfriend gets the huevos rancheros Christmas style as well. The food is fresh and authentic! The atmosphere is not that great since it's a hole in the wall, but the food and Juanita's service makes up for that! With out a doubt you should stop here if your ever in Albuquerque!! read more

Sure the beans are a tad watery but the flavors of everything are amazing. We had the three tacos plate and the cheese enchiladas...they were delicious and we devoured them without stopping to breathe. The tortillas must be homemade! The salsa is unique with a spicy kick and the chips are phenomenal. Loved this place and if we lived in New Mexico, we'd sure visit again. read more

I love Juanita's Mexican food, I come here at least twice a month! (I seldom eat out) this is TRUE Mexican food, none of that New Mexican flair. Her beans taste exactly how my grandmother made them. Which is amazing. My favorite plate is the cheese enchilada plate with green chile. Superb food I've been coming here over ten years. UPDATE: After being a loyal customer since like 2002. I had a bad time. I ordered my usual (I'm vegetarian) the green Chile cheese enchiladas. She had repeated my order like 3 times. She still wound up giving me the green chicken enchiladas. I calm told her I don't eat meat... she apologized like crazy and said it was her fault, which it was because she even repeated my order 3 times. She took it back and brought me my food finally. She seemed annoyed with me. I would think after being a customer for over ten years she would apologize plus give me further discount. Well when I went to pay between my sister and myself it is usually like 17.00 this time my total came out about 25!! She charged me more for her mistake! I was appalled. I would think being her fault she would give me a stooped discount. Well she took it upon herself to punish me for her mistake. My grandparents and I would frequent this restaurant every day when I was a kid and I never got tired of it. I would always order the carne asada burrito smothered with green chile and an extra tortilla. Juanita is an extremely nice lady and always treated us with such respect. I haven't been back recently but I always crave the burrito and wish I was able to stop by. This place is a bit difficult to eat at if you're not a Spanish speaker, as Juanita's native tongue is Spanish. I can imagine a non Spanish speaker feeling a bit out of place here, but nonetheless, the food is great and worth giving a shot! read more

This little hut of a resturant is worth a review. Food was authentic and service was kind. Felt like walking into a resturant in the heart of East LA. I ordered the shredded beef flautas with refried beans and papas. Yup, 100% real deal. Beans had been fried with Goya Manteca (lard). Let me tell you, Juanita does not mess around, she knows what shes doing. I would eat food like this all the time, if I could. Unfortunately, I don't have a gallbladder anymore so indulgences as such are few and far in between for me. This was a huge treat for me and worth every bite. My mom ordered a coke~cola with her meal. Came out in a glass bottle that was bottled in Mexico. The drink tasted different then the Coke product we get in the states. After looking into it further, found out that Mexican Coke~Cola is made with real cane sugar opposed to Karo syrup (corn syrup). It made a difference and was a nice touch to the meal. Clientele was mostly of elderly locals. They always know whats up. We should take more queues from our elders. They honestly know a thing or two. Area to eat was tight quarters but doable. The small space created the temperature to rise making it hot throughout the area. Only reason I didn't give Juanita's a five star rating. Currently Albuquerque is in the heat of the summer so in a few weeks the temperatures will subside and Im sure Juanita's will be pleasurable to dine. read more

Park in the shade of the 50's aluminum overhang, and notice all the sparrows who have made their homes in the rafters. Open the flimsy metal screen door and sit yourself down; sip some of the watery yet somehow enjoyable iced tea and rest your elbows on the sticky table mat. Order the enchiladas if you're not looking to take a risk; order the ranch plate if you're a bit more hungry and your heart's looking south. Dear mother of all things holy. This place is as good as I remembered. I used to be a freakish regular in the mid-late 90s, eating the same exact thing two to four times a week. The best bean burrito known to man. I hadn't been in like a decade, but a friend of mine was asking where the best bean burrito was in Albuquerque, and my kind immediately went to my old faithful, Juanitas. I've been thinking about it for weeks and just HAD to go today. It's everything I remembered. Homemade tortilla (they are more on the firm side for you tortilla freaks out there that need to know). Homemade beans that are too good to be healthy. Homemade red chile. Covered in gooey asadero cheese. I don't have a pic of it because I was too busy stuffing my face. It's THAT good. The only thing that has changed are the hours - which are great now! They used to close early afternoon (this my long stint of not going there.) No English is spoken but they easily can. The clientele is local (my tiny British car is surrounded by pick-ups.) Chile is tasty but not hot. Novellas are on in the background. Food is delicious. Go. Now. Be warned, when I say best burrito, don't expect a fancy burrito with a bunch of weird ingredients. Their burritos are simple, and straight to the point. Juanita's, hands down, has the best nachos in Albuquerque. My wife and I regularly visit after going to the zoo and have never been disappointed in them. When we've had out of town guests, we bring them to Juanita's for authentic Mexican food. I tried the flautas my first time and found out I don't like flautas. Since then, we've only ever bought the nachos because they are that good. They are only open in the morning to late afternoon which can be a disappointment when you want Nachos at night. read more

Went inside at 3 in the afternoon to buy a soda and use the restroom (out-of-town visitor for the Baloon Fest). My oh my! Heaven is this place on a sunny, lazy afternoon. Door is left open with just a screen to the outside--just like at home on a sunny Summer day! Small interior but full of sunlight and simple charm from days gone by. Absolutely no pretentiousness. Place is clean and colorfully decorated. When I went up to the cash register to order the soda, there is an opening that lets you see into the kitchen, and that is when I knew I had to stay and order something. I ordered a chili relleno and it was fantastic! So authentic, just the right amount of cheese and the green chili inside was perfect! Tasted delicious--totally homemade and fresh. The owner then brought over homemade tortilla chips that were a nice change from the run-of-the mill ones you get at most Mexican resturants. I ordered a breakfast burrito to go (eggs, sausage, potatos, cheese and green chili and it was one of the best I have had. Very nice staff. This place is simplicity defined, but it is nice, because there is care put into the food.
