The shrimp, whiting, fries, slaw, and hush puppies were great! The service was great and I'm going to assume it was the owner because she was so happy. The food was hot and fresh and definitely tasted like they made it.

We don't normally drive to Gloucester, but since the comic book shop Jerseys was a shop away, I guess it was meant to be. When I hear Bubbas shrimp I think of forest gump lol. The inside is spacious and clean. The employees are extremely nice and helpful. The hubs and I perused the chalkboard menu. We ordered the catfish, shrimp, and crab cake sandwich. It came with fries and hush puppies. Since they were made to order we picked a table and the waiting game began ;) One of the employees brought our food and asked if we needed anything else. She was great and filled our waters. The catfish was freshly fried, thinly coated, and seasoned. I would say that it was a bit heavy in the salt area. Shrimp was thick and plump. Fries were standard. I think the winner would be the crab cake sandwich. There was no filler which is great. The hush puppies were really good with a crunchy exterior. If we are ever in the area again this would be the stop to satisfy your seafood cravings.

Whiting and fries with two hush puppies

Spending the night in the area and decided to try some place different. Bubba's had a good rating so I went there. The shrimp, fish and chips were good and hot. Also comes with two hush puppies. Service is very friendly and the ambiance is small and cozy. Lots of take out orders from the locals. Good for small groups to eat in. If you do not ask for the fish options you get catfish. I chose whiting and it was hot and crispy. The house made sauce is good too.

She Crab Soup with Oyster crackers

Friendly service, good portion sizes. Crab meat is placed on top of the soup. So, you get a good idea of how much crab you are getting. The fried oyster platter came with three sauces, tartar, cocktail and the third seems like a mixture of mayo and Old Bay Seasoning.

Fried Catfish and Shrimp Basket. Served with fries, coleslaw, and hush puppies.

Absolutely the best fried Catfish and Shrimp I've ever had. It is cooked to a delicious exterior crunch, but is tender and moist on the inside. The hush puppies were incredible. They were little crunchy balls of cornmeal and dough, with whole corn kernels rolled in. They had a very slight touch of sweetness that balanced the kick in the remoulade sauce (they call it Bubba sauce) perfectly. Their fries were served fresh and were very good. I have no complaints but the coleslaw lacked flavor and could have benefitted from some extra bite and creaminess, perhaps some vinegar or heat, but maybe that is a regional taste thing. My mouth is watering thinking about this meal. Too bad I am 1,000 miles away but I will be back!

The area is small but they do have places to go. As a matter of fact, this restaurant is located behind a church so chances are you'll blink and miss it like I did. Let's see how the visit went, shall we? The restaurant is spacious where you have a bar section on one side with a gaming area and hi-top tables and another section with a bar area, pool tables and seating tables where we were located. The decor is really nice (didn't get a chance to take pics) and spotless. Definitely a place where you can catch sports games and such. After our party arrived, it was time to place our orders. I selected their fish and chips (rockfish was the protein) along with red crispers and I replaced their coleslaw with green beans. Overall, the dish was really good. The fish was crispy and well seasoned and the red crispers tasted wonderful with their homemade tarter sauce as the dipper. I wasn't a big fan of the green beans as I prefer mine to be soft though. But I was plenty full with the dish overall. The reason why I gave them 4 stars was service for our group. It wasn't bad as we were attended to by the welcoming staff, but it was 3 total servers which was a little weird. One server was new and messed up some of the orders. And for one person, their dish came out a little different than how she imagined so she sent it back and paid nothing. Again, not bad service but much needed training for the new guy. Even with the slight mishaps, the drive was worth it. I could definitely go here again and try different dishes. Till next time :)

The service was friendly and very informative, which was nice as we made decisions. The ambience was also excellent; we sat outside, but would've been happy to sit inside in the lively dining room. The standout dish of the meal was the baked Chincoteague clams. These were flavored with Thai green curry and were excellent bites. The smoked pork taco was also very much a stand out, the smoked flavors contrasted well with the freshness and it relief belt as if this taco provided bang for buck. The other dishes were well executed. A crab gazpacho with grape and other aromatic flavors as the base was well done but there was not much crab and so did not feel as if it was a particularly worthwhile dish to get. The grape flavor was also somewhat too prominent for my liking, but the dish was refreshing and light as promised. The brussels sprouts were solid but not particularly memorable. The oyster taco was slightly overburdened by slaw and proved somewhat more tangy than what was called. I would definitely come back for the clams and the smoked pork taco and would be interested to taste the raw preparations as well as the fried chicken taco next time.

Situated right under the York River bridge, not far from the Yorktown museum, is the cutest village. I'm sorry, they can't claim it as part of the original Yorktown but it is cute. There is a lovely river walk...hence the name of the restaurant. They have some of the BEST views in the area being right there. We had reservations however it being the busiest day for restaurants, we had to chill our heels for a few moments before being taken back. I was more than ok with this as we ended up getting a window seat (see above for reference). Thank heavens they put the name of the server in the receipt cuz y'all know my Swiss cheese brain. Cara was the wonderful server who took care of us. She was always there ready for me to get my mum good & spoiled. Super friendly and very helpful. The buffet, it was impressive for a buffet and while not a big buffet, it was specialized. First up were 3 different kinds of salads, then a fruit platter, and bagels & cream cheese. They had a raw bar with shrimp & oysters next, then breakfast stuff (eggs, potatoes bacon etc) mac & cheese, garlic mashed taters & then a carving station with turkey, ham & lamb. Finally a small but respectful dessert table. If you couldn't find something to fill you, you weren't looking. The single sour note of the buffet was the salmon and Mac & cheese. I'll know better next time. Overall the River Walk has come back with perfect timing and style. I highly recommend a visit. Parking is a pain but patience will help

One part safe bet, two parts interesting options. After reviewing the cocktails, and asking waitstaff for recommendations, I ordered the Liquid Sword. This cocktail was a unique combination of flavors that accentuated and complimented each other to make something more than the sum of its parts. For my meal, I ordered the safe bet: the Prime Ribeye. My wife took the adventurous route (not normal for her) with the Gochujang Bolognese. Everything was amazing. The steak stood on its own, but the compound butter (Black Garlic) took it over the top. The Bolognese had amazing flavor with a little bit of a kick, which she was nervous about, but wanted to try something she couldn't get anywhere else. In a tourist town, there are many mediocre restaurants that survive on one time tourist visits. Ones that would quickly be out of business in any other town. Ember is not one of them. It was obvious to me that the waitstaff had respect for the guests and the guest experience, which is so rare and so refreshing. You could tell they actually genuinely cared. I noticed several small details that may have went unnoticed to some, such as pipelining solutions to possible issues to improve guest experience. Don't sleep on this restaurant. We came into town and didn't realize that most of the "nicer" restaurants close early (8:30p) and that you need a reservation. I'm so glad we looked at other places and found Ember. It was a wonderful experience and we look forward to going back the next time we're in town. Ember, if you are reading this: keep on keeping on. Do not turn into the status quo of tourist trap restaurants. Keep a menu that has approachable items and continue to keep the unique interesting items like you have, while empowering your staff to help the guests to connect with the dishes that they will enjoy.
