This is one of our favorite spots in the Williamsburg area/Embers. It's located near downtown, surrounded by several other great restaurants, but we always seem to find our way back here whenever we get the chance--usually at least once a month. The staff is consistently friendly and welcoming. My wife and I often order the shrimp salad, and it's always outstanding. The drizzle they use is absolutely amazing. We've also enjoyed the scallop risotto, and on this visit, we tried the sushi rolls--every dish has been delicious. It's not just the food that keeps us coming back. The atmosphere is wonderful, the service is excellent, and the overall experience is consistently top-notch. If you're in the Williamsburg area, this place is definitely worth a visit! read more

We dinned here twice months ago but I have been traveling extensively for work. The ambiance is first rate, beautiful interior and fantastic bar options. The drinks were very good, so hats off to the bar staff. The first time we went we tried a variety of things but the star of the whole meal was an appetizer. The bone marrow with wagu was so original and fantastic, but so rich. The burrata was a little flat compared to the bone marrow but we will let that slide. Dinner was sushi for my wife and steak for myself. The sushi at this place is some of the freshest you can find, I have only had better in Vegas at Michelin star restaurants. The surf and turf roll is amazing but expensive (the first time), second visit not so much. Someone has forgotten how to season the steak at this place. This happened to my steak on the first trip, my steak had no seasoning. For such an expensive place, I should not be needing to season anything. The deserts were very good but the steak issues have me questioning a return. The first visit everything but my dinner steak was great, the roll with steak was seasoned well but not on the second visit. There is inconsistency here or maybe they are falling pray to people in Williamsburg not enjoying seasoning. I have experienced this was some very well reviewed places before here in Williamsburg. I am keeping my review high as the sushi is first rate but expensive, it might as well be Vegas prices. The steak needs love but I am not going to let that dim the excellent sushi, apps and bar drinks. We celebrated our anniversary here last night, and the entire experience felt like a little velvet-wrapped celebration from start to finish. Our server, Jenn, was absolutely fabulous. She was attentive, knowledgeable, and genuinely went above and beyond to make our evening special. I mentioned wanting a cocktail with strawberry purée, and instead of just offering the menu options, she actually spoke with the bartender about a few custom ideas. Whatever magic they created did not disappoint. The drinks were refreshing, perfectly balanced, and honestly tasted like summer in a glass. For appetizers, we ordered the tomato & burrata and the tuna crispy rice. The tomato & burrata was AMAZING. Everything tasted incredibly fresh, the pesto was vibrant and flavorful, and the presentation looked like something out of a food magazine. The tuna crispy rice? I could happily eat that every single day without complaint. Crispy, flavorful, and completely addictive. Our entrée was the prime ribeye, and I can honestly say it was the best steak I've ever had. Cooked perfectly, seasoned beautifully, and melt-in-your-mouth delicious. We also ordered sushi, which was beautifully presented and tasted just as amazing as it looked. I have been waiting a long time to try this place... The hostess and manager accommodated us being so late in the day .. The waitress didn't really recommend anything special , just kinda took our order and shortly after gave us the check. I got the miso cod and my daughter got the sushi roll but I wasn't wowed . The restaurant itself is beautifully decorated . The seats however are too close for comfort . I don't want to be staring into the eyes of other people when I'm trying to enjoy dinner . Stopped in on an extremely busy weekend, but fortunately we were able to snag a reservation. Parking is subject to the masses of tourists in Colonial Williamsburg, so be prepared. Very nice upscale setting for Japanese inspired fusion or traditional style. I had my go-to, a chirashidon bowl - one of the best ones I have had. Lunchtime portion was decent, the rice (very important) was cooked properly, had the right amount of vinegar and not too much sugar. It is a delicate balance all too often gotten wrong. They nailed it. Seafood was fresh and tasty, and the accompanying salad with a mango vinaigrette was delicious. My wife had one of their speciality rolls, the Tempo Roll. It must have been good since I didn't get a taste. Nice bar on the way in, and the menu of liquors is fairly extensive. My boyfriend and I came here for our anniversary and had a very pleasant experience! We were fortunate enough to get a reservation for Saturday at 6. I have heard that reservations are strongly recommended. As soon as we walked in, the restaurant itself is beautiful with a perfect date night atmosphere. Our server spoke with us almost as soon as we sat down and drinks/food came out very quickly. We were in an out within an hour. The food was absolutely delicious. We started with the crispy rice, which I highly recommend. Both of our entrees were amazing. The umami rush roll was probably one of my favorite rolls I have ever tried. A very special place with wonderful staff. My husband and I made last minute reservations to celebrate our anniversary and were lucky to get an early table. When we were seated, we were presented with two glasses of champagne. What a nice way to begin our meal. I ordered the miso soup and the sushi combo. While the miso soup was not outstanding, the sushi was. The fish was fresh and delicate and the rolls perfect. I had a glass of apple flavored sake, which went nicely with the fish. We had our mind set on eating at Ember especially since our granddaughter's name is Ember. We had a long day of travel but made it by 9:30. We did not have reservations which is almost a necessity at this classy busy restaurant. We sat at the bar & watched as the bar tender Unumi ? moved quickly & efficiently. She made the best cocktails & even recommended a great wine. We ordered the tempura mushroom appetizer which was amazing! Taste the different mushrooms w/o the sauce first as each were unique. Some were sweet & earthy. I ordered the chicken fried rice & Hubby ordered the Surf & Turf roll which had lobster & wagyu. The chicken was grilled, tender & plentiful. There was no dry rice, only a flavorful medley of rice, wirh a perfect amount of onion, carrot & bell pepper. They were so busy but I saw employees serving dish after dish with a smile, even at 10 pm! We met Steve the GM & learned that he helped dream up this upscale concept. Best and most fresh sushi. The fish looked like it was alive before the chefs prepared our meals. My husband had the Chirasidon which he does to judge sushi places. The fish was incredibly fresh (salmon, hamachi, eel, tomago, and tuna) and the rice was perfectly seasoned. He was served a side salad as well. I got the Tempo roll which was spicy tuna on top of wrapped avocado and mango. Soy sauces were offered as regular, low salt or gluten free. Byron was our server and he was prompt to fulfill our needs. This is a fancy restaurant but the clientele was full of tourists who were not dressed up at this 2:30 lunch. We didn't feel out of place. My friends and I had a lovely Saturday lunch here. Tyler was an excellent server. For an appetizer, I got the tomato and burrata. The tomato/buratta itself was just okay, good but didn't blow me away - but the basil/pesto/balsamic/olive oil mixture on the plate definitely elevated the dish, that part was so good. For an entree, I got the classic burger. I was surprised with how juicy and tasty it was. My only complaint is the thick bacon - I personally don't like fatty meat, so that was no bueno for me but if you like fat, you may like the thick cut bacon. And the sweet potato fries were delish. My husband and I visited Saturday evening for our date night. I will start by saying the interior is beautiful... visually a great place but unfortunately the rest left us hanging. Service was just ok, we waited approximately 20-30ish minutes to be able to put our order in, and almost left due to waiting so long. We tried 2 sushi rolls which were both good & also the filet mignon & shrimp fried rice. We ordered the filet medium (my husband and I like to share everything)... we waited approximately 30 mins for our food. The filet was burnt on the outside & completely raw in the center, so rare cook. I couldn't eat any at all & by the time anyone came over to the table to ask how anything was, we didn't have time to sit & wait for one to be cooked as asked. It was served on a very small bed of mashed potatoes. With how staff were raving about steaks to the tables next to us, we really thought we were in for a treat but unfortunately not. Great experience! Always fun to try a new restaurant. Jenny was a great server and it was great to meet Rick. Very rarely does a Maitre D ever visit our table at most restaurants. Great service! We started with a bottle of red wine and I got a Toki Whiskey smoked old fashioned. We both got the Filet. I got a Caesar salad. It was authentic with a very small fish. My wife did a 6oz filet and I got the 8oz. The steaks were perfect. I loved the Bone marrow butter. The whipped potatoes and asparagus were great. The dinner was 5 stars. We got a side of fried rice. If you like bell peppers their fried rice will be awesome. I'm not a big pepper fan so not my favorite but I wouldn't penalize them for that. Had a fantastic birthday experience at Ember this evening. To start, the service was great from the jump, and they were able to seat us 20 minutes before our reservation time. Our server was nice, and the front-of-house manager/ Maitre d' was also extremely friendly. The decor was very chic and modern, and even though we were next to the kitchen, it didn't feel cluttered or too loud. I will say, the music didn't really match the vibe (why am I listening to Taylor Swift while I'm eating beef tartare?), but I'm just being nit-picky. I do have one minor complaint, which is that I was underwhelmed by the cocktails. Maybe I'm a bit of a cocktail snob, but I think my old fashioned was far too sweet & Briar, my girlfriend, said the same thing about hers. The food was excellent! To start, we ordered the some bone marrow beef tartare and spicy tuna crispy rice (pictured-- both were phenomenal). We also ordered tuna belly nigiri, which was "Yummers delish" according to Briar. I agree! For our entrees, I had the scallop risotto and Briar had the "Umami Rush" roll. The "Umami Rush" roll absolutely lived up to its name-- it had crazy potent umami flavor. The scallop risotto was great. I'm not a big risotto guy but it had everything I want in a Winter seafood dish: it was warm, homey, buttery, rich, and delicate. My Grubbing Buddies and I picked the newly grubbing establishment "Ember, Steak, Seafood and Sushi" in the Williamsburg Town Square of Virginia - a beautiful and touristy location in Virginia. We normally meet up to do an early Saturday brunch, but a noon lunch gathering worked out for us this time just fine. When we arrived, we entered a welcoming establishment, which still had a post-Christmas holiday tree on display. Our welcoming and inviting waitress "Bam" was very attentive and took good care of us. As a group, we first tried the Ember deviled eggs, which were simply delicious. One Grubbing Buddy ordered a crab cake with whipped potatoes and asparagus. After sharing a taste, I confirmed all of it was the bomb! Our other Buddies ordered lunch-sized fried rice meals, complete with a hearty medley of fried pork rice, shrimp and vegetables. As for my meal, I chose the Steakhouse Salad, which should have been a 6-ounce sliced bistro steak, a salad dressed with Gorgonzola cheese, a hard-boiled egg and a load of other ingredients; however, instead of the bistro steak, I received a teriyaki infused, well-done generic steak and a dressed house salad. While there, I saw many people trying the espresso martini, which I ordered, as well, and it was incredibly delicious. I do plan to return to Ember because of the ambiance, location and the scrumptious food, ensuring that I order the steak and salad again. During our week-long vacation in Williamsburg, we dined at over half a dozen restaurants and Ember was the unanimous favorite for our entire group. This new addition to the local food scene is truly something special. From the moment we sat down, the experience impressed us. The cocktails were phenomenal and our server offered spot-on recommendations tailored perfectly to our flavor preferences. It set the tone for what became an unforgettable meal. Every small plate we tried was outstanding. The tomato burrata salad was one of the most unique versions we've ever seen. The tomato was hollowed out and filled with creamy burrata, served alongside a beautiful microgreens salad with what we believe was pesto, pine nuts, and delicious bread for dipping. The shrimp tempura roll may be my favorite roll ever and the street corn and deviled eggs were equally fantastic. For entrées, we ordered three filets and one wagyu strip, and every single steak was cooked flawlessly. Still, the wagyu strip stole the show! One of the touches we loved most was the ability to customize each steak with one of Ember's house-made butters. We tried the bone marrow butter and uni butter, and both were absolutely divine. Even the sides were standouts! The mashed potatoes and asparagus were prepared perfectly, and the chicken fried rice we shared as a table was so flavorful we'd come back for it alone. We wrapped up with coffee and two desserts: the chocolate pot de crème and the bread pudding. Even though we were already full, we couldn't resist and would have happily licked the plates clean if we had any room left in our bellies! Both desserts were rich, balanced, and the perfect finish to the meal. As incredible as the food was, the staff truly made the evening. Everyone from the runners to the servers clearing plates was kind, professional, and genuinely welcoming. A special shout-out to Steven, the manager, who was wonderfully personable and took the time to check in with each table. His presence added to the warmth and polish of the entire experience. The ambience at Ember is beautiful, modern, elegant, and cozy. Sitting by the window with the Christmas lights glowing outside made the night feel especially festive and magical. It really does have my 5/5 rating, how could it not? The ambience is off the charts, old colonial Williamsburg romantic setting and lighting. The menu is a comfortable mix of classic Japanese cuisine that excites you with new and modern twists for the palate. I loved the Miso deviled eggs and the grilled pork belly appetizer. I has a NY strip with mashed potatoes and asparagus with a pickled tuna sushi roll and a side of scallops. OMG so amazing. My dinner date had scallops with risotto which she devoured. Let me start by saying I went there in the 3rd week since opening. I was sat promptly from my reservation that I made and the vibe of the restaurant was chill. I will not go into full detail, because it is so new but let's say they struggled with the knowledge of their menu, speed to initially serve and following directions on my order. That being said, the server and manager were extremely friendly and recognized the issues. They are attempting to do an Asian/Italian/Jewish fusion was is intriguing so I tried the Gochuchang gnocchi bolognese. In my opinion, they either need to change to just a bolognese or increase the Korean flavor it was advertised as. The crispy rice spicy tuna appetizer was very good, could have been a little more spice forward. The filet was cooked perfectly and one of the best I have had. The bread pudding was one of the best I have had in a very long time and would come back just for that. They told me they also own the Jewish Mothers Deli around the corner so I will try that as well soon. I will come back in a few months to see if they worked out their kinks but I will definitely come back again. read more

We came to Ember on 1/28 to celebrate my birthday. Every year my bestie and I go somewhere new and this year Ember was on the list. We are locals (ish) and absolutely loved this experience. The food is so fresh and perfectly prepared and the cocktails are amazing. The staff was so very friendly and helpful and particularly Jenny our waitress. What a gem!
