Look like it had some good food, I gave it a shot. I tried their pork banh mi with a side of fries. I was extremely disappointed with it the pork it had no flavor and I should've read the ingredients because they add avocado. I like avocado but not on my banh mi. Pretty solid cafe located in the marina of Richmond near plenty of businesses. I didn't have high expectations of this place as cafes near offices tend to be less than stellar, but I was pleasantly surprised by the Asian fusion inspired menu here. I ordered the banh mi sandwich which included a side of fries for 9 bucks, not bad. There were plenty of fries, and the banh mi was good with some good portions of pork. There's definitely some enthusiasm and energy in the cafe which is always a plus, and they had a good mix of catchy throwback jams (think O.P.P. - Naughty by Nature). Decided to bump up my rating just on their friendliness, energy, and of course music. They have a pretty diverse menu so it might take a while to get bored of this place. One of my fellow yelpers, Albertino, asked me to check Bubbaloo Cafe out and offer my opinion. First of all, I don't make snarky remarks of other people's reviews, opinions, what nots, or even opined "not to listen to stupid ass reviewers like Albertino" as a tip. There's a saying, "to each his/her own." Then, there's also "agree to disagree". In this case, and I know my friend's rating was 3 stars, I agree that he is entitled to his opinion; however, the disagreement is my rating Bubbaloo Cafe, which is 4 stars in my book. Now, Nico, if you want to think "I told you" and/or do the Beavis & Butthead laugh (heh, heh, heh, heh, heh), go right ahead...dude, ain't no stopping that...it's all good. Mike, I have plenty of time on my hand; I'm retired from the labor market. I read other people's reviews and write reviews myself. Another factor that drew or lured me to this out in the boonies cafe - Gio's photos of his fine eatery and his menu offerings. My doing this review is an attempt to be fair, impartial/unbiased and objective. The namesake of this cafe is a creative one, making me think of an old TV musical series in the 60's...Hullabaloo. Bubbaloo is hulla(hella) cool, and Gio & Candace, owners, they're friendly and won't bite, unless they send the French bulldogs after me...j/k Gio. Ambiance: Casual and comfortable atmosphere, except chair was too low for my husband who is about six feet tall (minor detail). The missing tiles on the ceiling - totally cool with me as long as nothing is falling from above. It's the industrial look and I like it. Reason for the missing tiles on the ceiling: Landlord of the building does not want the ceiling covered entirely by ceiling tiles per Gio. I'm there to get my "grub" and "chow down". One can even relax and chill in a corner area where the dragon drawing is - comfortable lounge chairs and flat screen TV. Communal table seating 8 people, 2 tables seating two people and a table for one on right side of entrance. On the left side of the entrance several tables and chairs; my guesstimate for maximum seating is somewhere between 25 - 30 people. There's also an area just outside of the cafe to have one's lunch. Customer service: friendly and helpful staff. My husband and I ordered our lunch. Excellent service by the owner, Gio. He served us. Where can one go dining and get served by the owner? There aren't too many places that will do that. My compliments to Gio and Candace for the photos of their business on the Yelp site and for making our dining experience an enjoyable one. Cleanliness: Not pristine clean (not to be expected), but clean enough to deserve an A. Cafe is quaint and quiet, nice "get away from the hustling crowd and all that rat race down in the street" over on east side where Cutting Boulevard is (Hold up...what...wait a minute, I am not "Up on the Roof" and drifting away as the Drifters would sing)...lol, but just chillin at Bubbaloo, and facing the Richmond Marina will get me there - drift mode. Eats/beverages: Pastrami & bacon sandwich on whole wheat, served with a garden salad. Appetizers: lumpia (12 pieces) and veggie egg rolls (3 pieces). Entree: grilled pork chop and rice, served with a garden salad. Beverage: 2 bottles of Argo tea - hibiscus tea sangria. I have never had this brand of tea. Y'all get this tea while ya can...refreshing and a nice thirst quencher. Food and cafe were ono (relaxed in the Hawaiian language); not to be confused with "oh, no" it was terrible. Cost including tax: $36.14. Ratings of what I have eaten: veggie egg rolls (3.5 stars) - not greasy; fresh tasting and sweet chili sauce complemented it well. Lumpia (3.5 stars) - also, not greasy; flavorful, but I would have preferred a container of garlic vinegar for them (minor detail). Grilled pork with rice and garden salad (4 stars) - a generous portion...pork chops were grilled perfectly - not under cooked - fresh, tender and moist, just a tad salty for me. The garden salad was a spring mix with diced tomatoes and the salad dressing was superb. My husband's sandwich looked scrumptious. He enjoyed it. I asked for his rating of Bubbaloo Cafe since he does not do any yelping. He gave the cafe a four star. Final thoughts: A 3 star of any venues is not a doom and gloom thing. Suggestion to Albertino: My friend, go back to Bubbaloo Cafe and give them one more try. Definitely I will return to Bubbaloo Cafe for relaxation and enjoyment. Keep up the good work, Gio. read more

I have to switch up my review because of my last two visits. The place is going downhill. I cannot believe I had to wait 20-25 minutes for a sandwich today and previously a plate of teriyaki chicken. My entire party sat together and ordered together except I NEVER got my order OR an apology either time. They actually told me that food gets cooked at different times but hey, if EVERYONE else is eating and has been for minutes why is mine not ready at around the same time? Bubbaloo has become a go-to for me during shelter in place, as it's an easy and efficient way to get a delicious and affordable meal in between work calls. Pick up service is quick and well packaged -- food is always ready within 10-15 minutes of placing an order, and they keep it in a warmer for you until you arrive. I highly recommend the shaking beef salad, and the house cilantro dressing is a must! I would buy a gallon of that stuff if I could. Their banh mi and fries are also delicious. Tough to find since GPS will drop you off on one side of the building Bubbloo is on the other side. This is a cafe where you pick a drink from the cooler, sit yourself, order at the counter and pick up from the counter when your name is called. The Bunh Mi pork sandwich comes with either a salad or fries. I went the less guilty way and ordered the salad. The Pork had a zingy slightly spicy flavor. It had a soft interior and slightly chewy exterior. It wasn't over cooked. Just perfect. On top was the usual marinated carrot and radish strings topped with three sliced hot peppers you can remove. The bread is an essential part of the bunh mi sandwich. It should be crunchy on the outside, soft in the middle and warm. It was. The sandwich sauce and bread completes the sandwich. A great experience. If people are willing to drive to this out of the way to eat here, it must be good. I plan to come back to try other items. read more

I've been hearing about this place thru a couple of co-workers. I decided to go and check it out. When I got there the front desk Asian girl was on her cell phone didn't even greet us. She then decides after 3 minutes of us looking at the menu that it's a good time to put her phone down. We give her our order she politely takes it. My salad came out 15 minutes after ordering it. My co worker ordered a burger which took 20 minutes but because she was on her phone not paying attention she waits to hand out the customers food. Then I'm watching a red haired girl at the front finishing a ring up of another customer on her phone as well. So we got back to work late because the staff there would much rather be on their phone than to serve their customers. It's sad because I heard good things. The portions are good but the service doesn't make me want to go back. I ordered a chicken Caesar salad which was 10$ but it had 0 croutons and more cheese that could make a second salad. It over powered the chicken and the dressing I decided not to eat it. After the owner reached out to me, he assured me that my next experience will be more pleasant. Well he didn't disappoint. I went back and ordered the lemon grass chicken plate, I have to say it is an amazing dish. It had flavor, chicken was cooked perfectly and the service was great. This was the perfect stop on our bike ride along the Bay Trail! With few choices for takeout in the area, especially with the pandemic, this was a gold mine full of delightful options. Though I typically would've ordered the Vietnamese dishes, we ended up getting a California burger and fries instead along with a Vietnamese iced coffee. Burger was a generous portion, perfectly cooked, stuffed with avocado, bacon, etc. Fries were crispy, light and plentiful. The coffee was bomb, giving us a perfectly sweet and caffeinated jolt for the remainder of the ride. We are looking forward to our next meals from here whether it's takeout or dine in. read more

Amazing food with even better service! Today I got the Longganisa Breakfast plate. I didn't think I was going to get full but I was stuffed! The longganisa was perfectly cooked and the garlic rice was super flavorful. I've never met the owner Gio, but I can tell he's a very generous guy! Today my meal and drink was on the house. At first I felt shy to blow up Bubbaloo's yelp.. but I really feel like they have a good thing going and I love seeing great businesses thrive! Bubbaloo has become my daily coffee shop.. I'm totally obsessed with their Thai iced tea!! And I'll switch it up every now and then to an iced Vietnamese coffee to get me through my longer shifts at work. The service here is really amazing! I've only had their Cobb salad, but it's absolutely delicious and loaded with all the things that make a salad unhealthy :D Their staff was polite and efficient; the space is a good size and very clean. It's tucked away in an area I wouldn't have thought to look for a good restaurant, and the parking is kind of difficult if you don't work in the area (the spots in the lots surrounding Bubbaloo are reserved for employees of the nearby offices and school). I started going there, since I work nearby. Sweet owners. Beautiful legacy of their late Pet hence the name of the Café. Bubba and Loo I believe. I think Loo passed away but I see him everyday on the wall and the warm spirit is definitely in that establishment. I get a delicious Aztec Mocha every time I go. So delicious. At one point I thoroughly enjoyed the food and service here. Shout out to Marvic! I normally call in orders due to my not so flexible work schedule. However, it is in consistent. I always get the wrong bagel, or (1-2) less lumpia/ chicken wings. It's always something, but today... I ordered a Bubbaritto, usually enjoy it as is, however I asked for no spam or sausage, just bacon. You would think they would compensate the amount of bacon due to the lack of other meats, but no.. just crumbs of bacon throughout a mound of scrambled eggs and other stuff. They were not busy and I reconfirmed my order a number of times with the cashier and cook, since the window to the kitchen is open. Great food, but I've had it with their inconsistency in regards to their hours. They are rarely ever open by 6am like they say and rarely answer the phone throughout the day for call ahead orders. Really a bummer because the food is great and there's not a lot of options right around here.
