I had Bubba's at work one day and it was so good, we had them cater our daughter graduation. Years later, we are still eating at Bubba's BBQ and Bash. We have never had a bad experience ever. My only problem is, is their ribs are SO good that now I cannot get ribs anywhere else. I have tried and NO other ribs around the East Coast compare. Literally you can pull the bones right out. The service is fantastic, which is hard to find these days. When you dine inside it feels like a great down-home atmosphere. If you haven't tried this place, you owe it to yourself do so. I ordered the beef hash over rice with fried okra, macaroni pie, and hush puppies. The beef hash has a really good flavor. It is a little on the salty side, but I still thought it was really good. I would liked to have had more rice to go with it. They put way more hash than rice. The macaroni pie was so good! The fried okra was good and so were the hush puppies. The slaw was a bit too spicy for me but was good; it was chopped smaller than most. The Mac and cheese was good, not creamy, but very southern, and the beans delicious. The ribs fell off the bone and they satisfied my craving for BBQ. The place is bright with a couple of TVs on different channels both on mute. There was music playing. The temperature was a bit warm. A complete win....from the quality and taste of food to the portion size to the affordable prices and the friendly service. I tried the pulled pork, Mac and cheese and potato salad. I was impressed by each, especially the clearly homemade potato salad. And I must mention the divine little hush puppies too. Personally, I wasn't totally blow away by the banana pudding, but I was so full I shouldn't have attempted dessert anyway. Update: it's been a little less than two months since I ate at Bubba's. I just ordered to-go via phone and unfortunately the other reviewers seem to be right about drive-thru service. I read that drive through is rude and I found that to be true. They only give 3 sauces per order?? But I ordered two different plates for two different people?! I feel a little jipped; spending an average of $20 for two people should extend to more than three tiny ramikens of bbq sauce...seeing that it is a bbq restaurant. I politely asked the lady to include five sauces and I would just have to pay for the two extras; as I said "thank you," she hung up on me! We were excited and are still eating left-overs* We ordered two brisket plates, three hush puppies included with each plate (tasted just like my grandpa's hush puppies! Mind blow), macaroni pie (which is their code name for a serving of homemade Miss'ssippi macaroni), baked beans, 1/2 pint of their homemade pimento, one pint of their delicious chicken salad and a side of potato salad. There are three bbq sauces offered here. There is the basic red that is very good (not spicy), a red that is more vinegar-based and spicy and there is a mustardy-based sauce. Stopped here the other day while spending a weekend in Spartanburg. I had the ribs and my wife had the chicken "hash" (which was totally new to us from North Carolina). In these Covid times, they had close off about 1/2 tables per law (I guess). The available tables were clearly marked. The food came out quickly and was good. The ribs were tender - just borderline mushy- but still good. My wife enjoyed the hash. Sides were tasty. Drink service is self-serve. There was plenty of hand sanitizer around the restaurant. We paid with credit card - but no place to leave a tip. Luckily I had some cash to drop in the tip jar. read more

I was in Spartanburg SC on business and my trip wouldn't have been complete without some southern bbq. I am from Austin, Texas originally so bbq means beef brisket to me, but I like the southern style pork bbq as well. My tastes are not sophisticated enough to get involved in the sauce wars between eastern NC, western NC and Northern SC. I like them all and can't tell that much difference. Bubba's was near my hotel so based on local recommendations and Yelp, I gave it a try. I had the combo plate with sausage and pulled pork with hush puppies, fried okra, and mac and cheese. The food was good and prices reasonable. I have had better bbq but this was fine. The okra was particularly well prepared. Mac and cheese was - well mac and cheese. The smoked sausage was excellent. Place was a little divey but that is what you want at a bbq joint. Bbq was definitely an order of magnitude better than what we have in Minnesota. All of the meats had a delicious smoked flavor. All of the sides were amazing as well. The sweet potato fries are the best that I've ever tried. They have a nice crispy crunch to them but they are also soft. They have cinnamon and sugar on them but they don't over power the flavor of the sweet potato. Be patient with the process of ordering at the counter and figuring out what is available, the food is worth it. Embarrassed to say I got the burger... at a BBQ joint! BUt when I was in line and saw them cooking ,they were too good to pass up. It was very good. Fresh cut fries were very good too. Guys I had lunch with got the pulled pork. They said it was a good choice too. Plenty of parking - albeit tight spots.
