"I'm done. It's Memorial Day weekend and I just wanna feel like a normal American!" So when friends FB live messengered me from the pool at a hotel Yuma to tell me to get in the car and meet them for a normal holiday weekend good time, I jumped in my car and drove 2.5 hours from San Diego without a second thought. I get there and I'm starved. I ask where to eat and they tell me that they just had breakfast at Bubba's Barbecue. Okay. Understand. I'm black. They had me at both Bubba AND Barbecue. Now if you've been following my reviews you know I'm a story teller. I can make this long and drawn out or get to the point. Smoked pork ribs drenched in smokey barbecue sauce that was neither too sweet nor full of vinegar. Yes People. The sauce came ON the ribs. ((Angels Singing)) So I sat down in the mom and pop style diner reminiscent of my parents roadside barbecue restaurant in our front yard on the side of the 44 highway in Lakeview, Arkansas, and asked which sides come with pork ribs. There was never any question as to what meat I was gonna order. Did I not mention that I'm black? They let me sample their coleslaw and it is delicious. However, the coleslaw is half the reason I did not give Bubba's 5 stars. It was too runny. It would have been an easy fix to simply add more cabbage. But the flavor profile was there. The garlic bread toast was sooooo good. Thick, buttery and crisp on both sides. People forget and ignore the importance of getting toast right. When you have perfect toast with your bite of perfect barbecue...... heaven. I also had their sweet tea. This was the other bad mark. Not strong nor sweet enough. It tasted like regular tea with sugar. Sweet tea is supposed to be almost too strong and sweet. Thus the name Sweet Tea. The service was soooo fun. I love fun service. It's just fun. Totally makes your dining experience awesome. Getting my order right is a must and child's play. Just write down what I ask for,. Aligning with my good nature and actually having fun serving me, well, that takes a quality server. Way to go server!! (Is waitress insulting?) Will I go back? It's not even a question. As a matter of fact, I'm planning a day trip with my family to spend the night just to eat there. Yep. This quarantine has me driving state to state to dine. But believe me, I wouldn't drive this far for just any restaurant. read more

Something must have changed. This had been one of our favorite spots in town. Very disappointed in today's meals. French dip was made with skimpy amount of brisket instead of the normal roast beef and had onions. Bun was squished out and fell apart trying to dip it. A first for us after living here most of my life! Tracy was great, service and friendly. Chili had plenty of onions & cheese , patty melt was toasted perfectly a bit different with cheddar cheese but very yummy, the Tar Heel was presented nicely, a tad dry but the coleslaw paired great with it. Bubba's BBQ is somewhere we've been wanting to go to eat, but the strange hours it's open (non Snowbird/Winter Visitor season) made for difficult choosing. So we decided to go for breakfast. The motif is not unlike a cross between a Denny's from the early 90's and a Lodge-type diner. I did enjoy the spacious seating arrangements though, and the breakfast meal wasn't anything too special...but it wasn't too bad. Like an IHop breakfast "with feeling" if there is such a thing. We'll have to come to try the 'famous' BBQ on another day. Maybe that'll garner 4 or 5 stars, we'll just have to see. It's not a bad place, worth looking into, though. read more

We discovered that Bubba's is a breakfast and lunch diner even though the big sign indicates dinner is also served. However, stopping a couple nights before we figured the big sign was long long ago. Brunch or lunch was what we were after today. A few cars were in the drive and a few customers in the diner. Server indicated where we should sit and brought drinks immediately. However, getting her back to the table was different. She had to have an argument with another server, seat a couple, take other orders and stand around. We weren't sure whether we should be walking out the door or wait. We waited and finally she decided to take our order. I wouldn't say she was friendly or unfriendly. Once turned in our food came out of the kitchen fast and hot. Food was good and there were absolutely no complaints there. Not tickled with our server and that had a lot to do with our attitude. Was recently in Yuma for the Dove Hunt and we ate here twice, the first day the service was very slow but got better after we ordered. The place is great and the food equally good, I had a dish that was everything combined called the scramble or something like that and it was excellent the 2nd day I had the Corned Beef Hash and eggs and that was also excellent with the home fries! Our service the 2nd day was excellent and overall a good experience, it's old school diner and has the rustic ambiance to go along with it! Sorry Bubba but I didn't think your food was very good. If you have a restaurant in Yuma and most of your customers are in their 80s you don't have to serve good food. We had biscuits and gravy, the biscuits were dry and hard and the gravy was bland. Also dried out scrambled eggs and what seemed like boiled potatoes reheated on a flat top and not even reheated enough to crisp them. Bloody mary for $7.00 was ok but it didn't even have an olive or celery. The only good thing was the service and I could sit outside with my dog. read more

This girl is amazing, hilarious, beautiful, full of energy all the while on top of her game in serving. The Customers of Yuma know her and love her! In town for work, we were looking for a place for breakfast. Bubba's was open and near where we were working. It reminded me of an old Denny's. Since this is the time of COVID19. The waitresses were wearing masks and they were doing social distancing seating. We sat down, we were given menus and asked for our drink orders. The menu has options for both vegetarian and regular eaters. We order the all meat omelet, the pancakes, two eggs & bacon and the bubba breakfast. It came out hot & delicious. My only compliant was the bacon. It wasn't cooked properly. Bubba's is definitely a local spot with several regulars. Good food and a good price. read more

Our visit to bubba's was wonderful. I am a group organizer out of San Diego and we stopped through for breakfast on the way to Phoenix. They accommodated all 45 of our members and the food was wonderful and served in a timely manner. The ambiance is country style and very homey. I'm a foodie and if you are also, this is not the place for us. This place was more like diner style or country dining, lots of older folks (lots). Nothing against older folks, but they tend to stay away from well seasoned food. My mother and I had breakfast, dissapointed that its not Southern BBQ (I was tricked). My mother of course loved her breakfast, she ate it all. I had a scramble and pancakes. Like I said diner style, nothing fancy or special. If you do like crackle barrel, you'll love this place because the food is similar but less costly. We didn't get no kind of greeting, just asked us table or counter. The best part of this visit was the offensive disrespectful words exchanged in english-spanish by a waitress and a cook, it added some type of surprise excitement. For years we ate here. The food was good, but mainly because of the staff. The waitresses had an amazing repartee with their customers, and we all loved them. They knew us all by name, joked and laughed with us, cried with us, and served our coffee and food with humor and good cheer, and even a little attitude! Then Bubba's was sold. They got rid of the old staff and brought in their own, and it's never been the same. Many customers have left, and haven't been back. Although it sounds like stalking, we tracked down our favorite waitresses and let them them know to stay in touch, and keep us posted where they land, and we'll be there! read more

Bland food, chorizo scramble was awful. Even the bacon was bland how do you do that? I have always been noted as having a cast iron stomach, and at 5:50pm my stomach still feels off, at what little I ate of the chorizo scramble at 8am. Very greasy too. Hubby got the breakfast combo it was so bland. I got grits for a side & it was bland as could be. I used salt, pepper, and margarine, which was what I got when I asked for butter. The staff and the atmosphere really make the establishment special. The food is good but not spectacular but the friendly staff are worth a shout out. Best way to find a good cafe for breakfast is to see how full the parking lot is. This morning brought us in for the first time. Greeted immediately and sat at an old fashion booth. Kind of sank down in the seat but still comfortable. Looks like a great place where locals come to have coffee and good conversation. We had the Hillbilly breakfast consisting of biscuits & gravy, eggs and sausage. Hot gravy and soft biscuits. Delicious. My wife had the every day eggs, sausage patty, toast and hash browns. Didn't leave me anything it was so good. If you want to get away from the chain restaurants, this is a place you have got to try. read more

Stopped in for Sunday brunch. Food was of sufficient quantity and quality. The ice tea came in a small glass and our waitress never asked if we wanted a refill. Well the time has come for my first 1 star review... Here is the lowdown on Bubba's version 2.0. Bubba's changed hands a while back and the owners went on to open another BBQ joint near the foot hills. This place has gone down hill from there. We went there one evening for BBQ with some friends and we tried the following: The chicken The beef(maybe brisket??) The ribs The best item was the chicken and that wasn't great. The beef was undercooked(in terms of BBQ, it wasn't slow cooked long enough so it was tough to eat) and the ribs looked very tough to eat(they were ordered by our friends) The service was ok but they were out of a few items... One being Mac and cheese!!! I was not happy... the other was baked potato. Now on the baked potato the server said they could Microwave it and our friends agreed. (This is a food industry trick and I am sure many people have eaten microwaved potatoes and not known it.) Now the food took over 40 minutes to arrive to our table. (btw potatos can cook in the oven in about 45 minutes) and it just didn't taste that good. The garden salad was just iceburg, some cheese and dressing. The BBQ sauce didn't taste right... not sure if it sat on the table too long or if that was the taste they were going for... The only positive I have on the places is value for the amount of food you get. They did give me a lot of Beef(looked like at least a pound) for the price. Nice local BBQ place in a town with few BBQ options. Overall it's a standard "Meat and three" but one of the three seems to have fallen off the menu at some point so it's more of a "Meat and 2". Good variety of meats/cuts and decent selection of sides. Staff is usually friendly and service has always been prompt for me. Never been let down by the food - though the price is just a tiny bit more than I would expect for only 2 sides. But I guess that's the way things are now. read more

Son ordered the Tar Heel , it was RANCID ! Sent it back server was told by cook that the smell and taste was due to the hog wash sauce they use. The food is still great, service friendly and wonderful, and the price is low. Listen to me now, go at 6:00 am, eat some fab offering and do it repeatedly. We ordered a chili cheese omelette with wheat toast and hashbrowns and fried eggs with biscuit and gravy and sausage links. The biscuits and gravy's OK. The hashbrowns not that crisp not hot. The Fried eggs were cooked perfectly. It was actual wheat toast not that white toast that they are kind of a brown a lot of places serve. The chili cheese omelette was a plain omelette and then they just poured chili on top of it and some cheese it was ok. Nothing here is wow. It's all reasonably priced middle of the road breakfast. Menu wise, this place has gone down a bit in the last few years. But it's still my favorite spot for breakfadt. Great senior menu and daily specials. Breakfast is served all day. Barbeque wise you used to be able to order many beef dishes. Now it seems to be primarily pork so I only go for breakfadt...sorry but barbeque pork rind dies nit come close. I really prefer supporting the local business and NEVER went to the national chain for barbeque that is until Bubba sold this. Now when the craving for barbeque beef is unbearable I have to go to the chain. read more
