We were so hungry and floored on how outstanding the meet and potatoes were, that I never even got a chance to take a picture of it beforehand. Let's just say, we plan on visiting again...soon. Finally found the best BBQ spot in Yuma! As soon as I walked in, the smell of smoked meat hit me right away--in the best way. The pulled pork was juicy with a great smoky flavor. I also tried the tri-tip and brisket--both were tasty, though slightly on the drier side, but the BBQ sauce definitely made up for it. I don't usually order mac & cheese, but it came with my sandwich and I'm glad it did. It was hot, fresh, and really hit the spot. Next time, I'm coming back to try the pork ribs and burnt ends. We love brisket and have ordered it all over traveling the US. Well, we hadn't been to Holy Smokes so this was the day to give it a try. To begin with a partial reason for the stars above was the location and interior design. It is really cute. It looks like a fun place to go and perfect for BBQ. We ordered 1/2 brisket, beans and cole slaw. The food was not up to the hype. What was wrong? After eating there I went back and compared pictures of the brisket others had posted. Theirs appeared to have a good smoke ring and good bark. Ours had no smoke ring and very little bark. Was it cooked too fast? You guessed it --- not good. It was okay but if you go for the brisket, this trip would not have done it. Along with the brisket we wanted to taste the beans and the cole slaw. The beans and cornbread was delicious. The cole slaw had a sharp taste and the cabbage was cut too big. Overall, I was very disappointed. I would have given a 2 star rating but the interior is cute. However, doubt we will ever go back. The food arrived quickly and the side was nice and hot. The chicken was nicely roasted and juicy but no signs of being smoked or grilled. No evidence of a rub or sauce during cooking. The sauce provided was more fruity and no smoke. It seemed like someone had a concept of a thing called BBQ but had never actually had it. Let me talk about the service. My family and I stopped in 30ish minutes before Holy Smokes was set to close (we did not realize they closed at 5 and did NOT mean to be these people). That being said the hostess was amazing and was willing to accommodate us even though they were getting ready to close. We got the family dinner deal and the food was so good. I love a smoked meat and all of the meats on this plate knocked it out of the park. I think the chicken was actually my favorite - so moist and smokey. I also loved the corn bread and mac and cheese. They also have some really cool decor and swing seats which would be great for people with kids who just can't sit still. 10/10 experience and shout out to the staff for accomodating us. No, I didn't like the meal, but if each of the items had been balanced with other than sweet, the resulting dishes would've been great. So, the food is good. But this combo wasn't.
