A friend of ours took us to this restaurant out by the River over the Memorial Weekend. We were not sure if we would find a parking space with all the boaters, but we got lucky! This restaurant has a farmhouse rustic feel to it. We were greeted by friendly faces when we walked in the door. We didn't have to wait long to be seated. The waitress was helpful going thru all the options on the menu. Food took about 25 min or so, but not surprised with how crowded it was on Saturday Evening. They have a few TV's showing sports and Country Music. We had the Barnyard Brawl with 3 sides! So much food!! Everything was delicious!! We had to ask for a to go box! The Mac n Cheese is homemade and the best we have ever had! The Brisket had so much flavor! Plenty of cold beer and mixed drinks! The waitress informed us that it was family owned. The chef from the back came out to see how we liked our first visit to their restaurant. He informed us that he was part of the family. We came for Memorial Day weekend to a friends place. They told us about a new restaurant on the property, called the Hen House. We chatted with Kimmi, the bartender, who helped us with creating a big stick blended drink, which resembles the popsicle. It wasn't a drink they were used to making but she was all game for making it! It came it so good! Everyone here did such a great job with serving everyone in the place! I want to thank Smoking Hen House for giving me food poisoning. They fed me a raw sausage . As i ley here in bed at a hotel cause i could not make the drive home just makes me so angry. Donot eat there bad food and way over priced. Blond waiters didnt want to serve us so the owners sister helped us out after sitting for about 15 min. When i got my food 25 mins later.. i took a small bite from the pork sausage and it felt mushy. It was already in my mouth so i just spit it out. The most crazy part is that onced i showed it to the waiters she then took the same sausage and just finished cooking it. Like 15 mins later . We got to go boxes and just threw it in the garbage outside. This people seem to care more about money other than food safety and customer service. I waited in line for about 2 hours at the Barbeque and Brew fest in Yuma and after that wait got ribs so bad they were inedible. They were undercooked, and a couple of them having no meat at all. They were charred, black and burnt, yet raw inside and with no flavor anyway. I understand if your stand became overwhelmed with people at the fest, but instead of turning people away, you charged us $90 for 3 meals that we threw away! Shame on you!!!!! If it hadn't been so late already, we would have returned the food but couldn't because after standing up for 2 hours waiting, we took the food and immediately went home (it was already 6pm by then). We were super excited to try this place because it's so close to YPG but after going there for lunch today I would not recommend going here. At first we both ordered the pulled chicken and then out waitress had to come back out to let us know that the did not have any chicken at this time. This would have been understandable if the place were packed or we came later in the day, but we were there 30 min past opening for the day and the restaurant had only one other table of people. We changed our order to brisket and tri-tip. We entered an basically empty restaurant but still waited over 45 minutes for our food to come out. Our server was very sweet and apologetic, however, unfortunately aside from that there were not any redeeming qualities. I got the brisket which seemed dry and old. It had no flavor so much so that it was served with BBQ sauce (which to us just tasted like store-bought sweet baby rays) already on it. My Mac and cheese came out cold and was also pretty dry. The french fries were also cold and tasted like they had been fried house before and were just sitting under a heat lamp for hours. Not sure why we waited so long to be served cold dry food. Super disappointed overall and feel as though we wasted $50. read more

First time in Hidden Shores (another review is needed for the park ) Thanks to my BFF who invited me for the weekend to visit her "happy place"  . Of course one's got to eat, there is one restaurant on the property The Hen House, WOW OH WOW!!!! I am not specifically a fan of BBQ places but Everything about The Hen House including the owners, the staff and the FOOD oh my th e food. You enter the restaurant, right away feel welcome the decor is warm & inviting to enjoy a wonderful meal but also have a great time with the family or/and other patrons. Now I know why this is my friend's "Happy Place"  Now the food!!I am kind of a health junkie so I didn't know what to order the first time around, well Johnny took care of us, he is not only part of the family, he does genuinely listen to what his customers like or don't like. Gives suggestions and will customize your order to YOUR want and he does it with a fabulous sense of Humor. Every plate can be prepared to YOUR taste. My first meal there was fish & chips, the fish was cooked to perfection, the batter was crispy but not greasy at all, the chips were also a delight , fabulous first impression. The next morning, we came for Breakfast, a lot of choices available. We both chose scramble eggs and hash brown. Everything was cooked just right, eggs were perfectly seasoned, Hash Brown cooked just the way I like them, crispy and not greasy at all, served with a homemade biscuit that melts in your mouth (no butter needed) Our next meal wasn't any different, every item we ate was absolutely delicious, a MUST have when you visit The Hen House, their smoked chicken served with Homemade Mashed potatoes that have so much flavor that you will want more and take some home and another item you absolutely need to have is the Coleslaw with Apples. The best Coleslaw you will ever have... Of course every good meal need to end with a sweet, fabulous desert, The Hen House will offer you just that, a succulent list of sweets but my Favorite was the Caramel Crust Apple Pie, this apple pie is one that you will remember, The crust is made right there at the restaurant fresh each day, the combination of apples, caramel cooked on this fluffy, crispy crust is absolutely the perfect marriage of textures and taste. Tried this great little spot in Hidden Shores. We ended up eating here every day during our trip. The service was great, super personable staff and make you feel like a regular as soon as you sit down. We had drinks, and chef Johnny delivered with the food!!! We had breakfast and lunch here- the biscuits and gravy are incredible! Don't sleep on the brisket! We smelled it cooking all day and it was divine! The BBQ sauce is made from scratch and if I could bottle it and take it home, I would (hint hint ). I never had enough room for the peach cobbler, but can't wait for o try it next trip. read more
