Extremely Disappointed - Unprofessional Experience I've been a salon owner and licensed stylist for 35 years, and I'm still actively working in the industry. While visiting my son in Olney, Maryland, I decided on a whim to get a haircut at Bubbles. After a brief consultation with the stylist--whose name management later refused to provide--I chose to get a trim. I clearly asked for one inch off. Instead, the stylist immediately started at the front and chopped off more than two inches without verifying the length or discussing it with me. When I asked her to stop, it was already too late. The result was an uneven, poorly executed cut that was much shorter than what I requested--especially in the front. The next day, I returned to the salon and showed the manager the damage. Rather than taking accountability, she made excuses for the stylist and told me there was nothing wrong with my hair--which was completely unacceptable. She also refused to give me the stylist's name or the contact information for headquarters. Her response was, "If you want it, you can look it up yourself." Unbelievable. As a professional in this field for over three decades, I can confidently say this experience was completely unprofessional on every level--from the stylist's technique to the manager's dismissive attitude. My friend referred me here to Jane. I was literally overdue for a haircut and because it's summer and I got all these nasty white hairs, I wanted to dye my hair. Jane was so nice on my first visit when I got my cut and even when I came in the second time to color my hair. For the hair coloring, she knew it would be a bit overwhelming for me to dye all of my hair so she recommended doing the partial balayage highlights. I gave her a picture of the color I wanted, and SHE DELIVERED PERFECTLY! I also loved that she gave me post instructions and recommended me what products to use for my hair. The whole process for this took 2 hours and the pricing was fair! I'm so glad I came here before I booked an appt for another place that would charge me $400+ and take more than half a day to finish. I'm sorry, Erin is a really sweet person (and so was the last stylist I had too), but it's clear that Bubbles doesn't know how to do highlights. I know that I have dark hair. I have hair that looks black and turns brown in the sun. So, yes, it's pretty dark, but they're very thin strands of hair (I just have a full head of hair that makes it look "thick"). But my previous stylist, whose name I forgot, was able to get BLONDE highlights on me in the EXACT BLONDE that I wanted. Not that weird, mustard brown yellow, which I have now. She was able to get PLATINUM blonde, the kind of blonde that's not gold/yellow but BLONDE. Before the procedure began, Erin asked me about the tone I want. I told her exactly what I expressed above: I loved the platinum blonde I got back in August, and I want them again. Erin told me "Your hair is too dark, so the blonde won't pull through in one session." This is the same thing the previous stylist told me, however, I told her that I was okay with damage to my hair since I want the color. I told the same thing to Erin, and she responded: "I know, but I personally don't enjoy damaging my clients' hair. So I personally don't go that deep with the highlights." I assured Erin that it's okay, and that I'm paying you $238 to get me BLONDE highlights. You're not cheap -- my previous salon, who I will now return to for good after these repeated bad experiences with Bubbles, only charges $150 for blonde highlights on my hair. $238 for a broke college student who just wants the same blonde highlights that her friends from out of state have is a *very big step up* in price. Erin made chunk sizes of my highlights so small and tiny that they looked like blobs of gray hairs at first. I will say: she made them larger than my previous Bubbles stylist, but they're still not big enough to be called "highlights". These are very very skinny, about the diameter of a ballpoint pen's ink cartridge, and they are not $238 worth. Frankly, I'm not sure what I even paid for, because I didn't get the blowout. Bubbles -- why are you training your stylists to make highlights that skinny in diameter? You take a trip downtown and look at girls' hair with highlights and you see how THICK and CHUNKY their highlights are? They didn't get "balayages", which is what Erin suggested to me if I wanted chunkier highlights than what she did -- my friends don't even know what a balayage is. They just get highlights, and somehow, THEIR stylists know that the chunk size of a highlight has to be AT THE VERY LEAST the diameter of your pinky finger. This is my last time ever at Bubbles. I don't have the time or the gas money to make another trip back to Olney to get it "fixed", because frankly, you don't know how to fix it. My hair's "just too dark", I guess, which is odd, because the first Bubbles stylist was able to get the blonde *juuuuust* right. I hope the target demographic of your salon enjoys the salon's services -- it's clear that it's not for me. read more

The person who cut my hair was asking me weird questions that were not meant for a hair salon, her fake nails were popping off in my hair, and she asked the stylist next to me how to cut my hair. She squatted down behind the salon chair I was sitting in and whispered to the stylist next to us asking how to do the technique I wanted done, thinking I couldn't see/hear her. She had no idea what she was doing and it took 1 hour and 50 minutes to trim off 1 inch off my hair and didn't know how to do a V-cut. My two front framing pieces are completely uneven and cut straight across. I am extremely dissatisfied and frustrated with the experience I had at this salon. read more

Sent my girlfriend here for a haircut recently. They picked the stylist. I called to request someone specific but did not realize they all had different pricing. I know hair is expensive nowadays but kind of ridiculous for a normal, easy haircut to cost $50 plus tip $60 (and that is WITHOUT a BLOWDRY) I mean isnt that what the stylists went to school for..to cut hair..a haircut should be a simple appointment to them. Not too long ago we paid $20 for that same haircut but now hair is robbery with their pricings. Well when she got home no one could even tell she had the haircut. I came in for a haircut from Mehrnoosh. It had been awhile so I knew that I would need more than a simple trim to get my locks healthy. I asked how much and she held my hair by a lock and showed me what was clearly 3 inches. My hair was so long it covered my breasts. I left with a freaking "lob" aka a long Bob that lands about a centimeter above my shoulders. She cut off 6-7 inches. Did I complain? No- what's the point? She can't glue my hair back on. But, i can't say nothing since hopefully others can avoid the same mistake. I hate that I had to pay someone to essentially rob me of all of my confidence by giving me a haircut I despise. I get nothing my comments of shock about how short my hair is now.... Not to mention one side is longer than the other since she didn't cut it with my hair parted how I wear it except to do the final layers. Yet I can't go get it fixed or it'll be even shorter. In a world where we are forced to wear masks and cover our faces, our hair is the only statement we have. Beware when going to this lady. I have been trying to find a hair salon and based on the reviews and price I decided to try this place. All I can say is, if you can't do what the client wants you shouldn't cut the client's hair. I am not a picky person. I needed an 1 1/2 inches cut off with the hair angled around my face. Really not difficult. I even showed the stylist visually what I imagined. I do not cut my hair often but that would have done the job. I even commented how I liked having my hair long right now. Nope. Instead, she showed me the length cut wet of probably 2 inches. The stylist then stated, "it needs it." I hate to tell you that's not what I asked. Typically, when I go to salons, they double check when it is more than a trim since people tend to be pissed when they go in with long hair and come out with short hair. She did not. She also did not angle my hair and now I have shorter side bangs that will fall in my face while doing my job. I left the salon annoyed and immediately put it in a pony-tail and am now hoping it grows out fairly quickly, though I know it won't. Moreover, she seemed to spend more time trying to put useless products in my hair that frankly did nothing. Why would I buy products if you cannot trim my hair? Needless-to-say, if you do go here, make sure you have a stylist who listens. I will not go back to this salon and will have hair I hate during the holidays. read more

I needed a trim and booked a last-minute appointment with Jess. This salon is on the new side and it's in the heart of "downtown" Olney. Upon arrival, I was greeted with a smile from the adorable receptionist and Jess was ready to get started right away. I asked for a deep conditioning treatment before my service, which was well worth the $$$. She did a fantastic job cutting and styling my hair. She took her time and explained how to style my thin hair to give it more volume. It's always nice to have someone take the time to do this because it's easy to fall into a style rut and forget how to properly style your hair. The prices are very reasonable here. I paid around $90 (not including tip) for a haircut, style, deep conditioning treatment and two salon products. I'd suggest making an appointment to save you time but they do accept walk-ins. ******Also, bring cash for a tip!! ******** Some places will allow you to add gratuity to your total, but they stopped doing that earlier this year. read more

Overall, I was satisfied with the cut provided by Bubbles and would return here again. The customer service is nothing like that of independently owned salons, but for the $40 price, you get your money's worth. I asked for a simple trim (about 3 inches) when I visited this Bubbles location. My hairdresser was extremely quiet and did not try to initiate conversation, but that personally did not bother me at all. She was professional with the cut and did exactly what I had requested. When I checked out, I was pleasantly surprised to see that Bubbles was offering $10 off the haircut for any customers new to the salon. My cut only ended up costing me $30, plus tip. Great location, parking can be a difficult on the weekends due to it being in a busy shopping mall. Starbucks is a few doors down, and very convenient for people who need a little liquid fortification before an appointment, although the salon provides flavored waters, coffee and tea. The salon is clean, well-lit, the atmosphere is pleasant, and there are a lot of high-end products to choose from. My stylist Jane went above and beyond to fix a botched color/haircut. First time customer at this location. As I arrived, the stylist proceeded to go outside to take phone calls. When she came in, she did not bother to introduce herself or to ask me my name. She looked at my hair and said you want long layers? I clarified that I had an a-line bob, wanted an a-line bob and that I did not want layers. The stylist asked me how much I wanted her to cut. I said 1 inch. I am not sure about the stylist's qualifications, she was very nice though, but I am not happy about the cut after styling it myself . The sectioning was iffy at best, little to no crosschecking. This is supposed to be a precision cut, that is not what she did. I came in with hair touching my shoulders, it is now barely past my ear lobes. She probably cut close to 2 inches. There's a clear and sharp 'V' at the back of my hair. I need a haircut now as badly as I did before - my hair doesn't fall into place. The layers are BUTCHED. I had long way overgrown hair which I wore up in a bun. Decided to get some of it cut off. The cut looked okay but not great with a blowout -- I could already tell chunks were taken out and it was nothing like I asked for. It was much, much shorter than requested and I did have bangs grown out past my chin. Now I have a few pieces up around my eyebrow but hey, only on one side. With a lot of work I can disguise it - more work than I wanted. I have naturally curly hair and it's so hacked that I can't even let it air dry. There's no fixing this hair. It just has to grow out. My kid just got a trim and she likes the haircut but she can't see the back like I can. It looks exactly like a home haircut. It falls in a crooked line across her back. read more

Today was my fourth experience at bubbles and I can say I will not be going back. My first hair cut was ok- the girl was not very knowledgeable about curly hair though. My third haircut was awesome with Jessica! She was super friendly and cut my hair perfectly. At that third appointment she told me I was the perfect candidate for keratin treatment with my massively frizzy hair. I was weary because I am 8.5 months pregnant, but she reassured me that she herself did it both times she was pregnant and there was nothing to worry about. I tried booking my keratin treatment with Jessica but with timing it didn't work out. I made an appointment for this morning with someone else. When I walked in I was informed that in fact I couldn't get the treatment and that they would not do it because I am pregnant. I'm not irritated they wouldn't do it, because if it's their policy it's their policy. However, I am irritated because one person at the salon told me one thing and got my hopes up. My hope that even with two little children at home and a third on the way I wouldn't have to spend the 2 hours a week to straighten my hair anymore. I'm irritated that their employees don't follow the same rules/guidelines. I'm also just irritated because I was really hoping to look beautiful again with my huge ass belly and had to walk out empty handed. read more

I have been going to Amanda for my hair for a little while now, but was excited to hear of her move to Bubbles of Olney because of how convenient it is. Amanda is a stylish up-beat hair stylists, nothing like the stuck-up stylists I've been to in the past. She always listens attentively to my changing hairstyle wants (always changing for the season!) and I always leave smiling. I had sticker shock (in the best sense) when I was rung up for my full process color, cut, and deep condition for $90! This salon is quite new from what I've heard. They've only been open for about a month. It is located in a shopping center that has its own spacious parking lot. I did not have trouble finding a spot at all. They accept both walk-ins and appointments but I made an appointment to make sure that I wouldn't be waiting forever for a haircut. My hair stylist for the day was Tiffany. As soon as I walked in the door, I was greeted by the person at the desk and directed toward Tiffany. There was practically no wait time. Tiffany was very friendly and made sure we were on the same page in terms of what I wanted. I have straight Asian guy hair, which is one of the more difficult types of hair to cut, but Tiffany managed to cut and style my hair exactly how I wanted it.
