BBQ ribs, Fried Okra, and Coleslaw
    Earl S.

Georgia South, Dear Lord, Georgia South! This black-owned and -operated family establishment is a favorite of local Barnesvillians and who can blame them? This has to be some of the best bar-be-cue I've ever eaten. From the get-go, you get the feeling of being one of the locals and family when you walk in to this place. It has a rustic feel to it with pic-nic tables and people all speaking and greeting when you walk in as they eat and enjoy the delicious bar-be-cue and other menu options. I had the lemonade to drink, and it was okay. It wasn't the particularly best I'd ever had (My Mother's homemade lemonade is the best), but the food here is all the way on point! I ordered the 4 ribs, and they were juicy, tender, hot, and freshly made. They have a sweet covering of BBQ sauce that just gives that added flavor in true Georgia style. I love the fact they are true to the sweetness of the BBQ sauce that is germane to true Georgia BBQ, which I've eaten all my life. I had sides of the coleslaw which has the taste and flavor of a home-made slaw, not the store-bought stuff. It was good. The fried okra was both juicy and crispy, which is often difficult to accomplish at the risk of drying the okra out, but they did it perfectly. I had the flavor of the okra and the crispy texture that a Southerner loves to taste when eating the Southern's Popcorn, which is our Fried Okra. I wanted to try their BBQ sandwich, and it was one of the best I've had and is served on a toasted bun, which I requested. You have the option of toasted bun or sliced loaf bread. It was hot and freshly cooked and is akin to more so small-town type of BBQ sandwiches, similar to Perry's Big in Augusta, Georgia, my hometown. We also tried the Lemon Pepper Wings, which, if you know me, I can eat Lemon Pepper wings all day and every day. They were hot, perfectly cooked and flavored, and were just finger-licking good. These folks here really know how to cook. I cannot way to return to try their Shrimp and Fish offerings as well. Bravo, guys, on a job well-done and sticking to the wonderful traditions in this charming small town of true Georgia BBQ.

The REAL deal for Southern BBQ. Pork was out of this world, baked beans, cole slaw & Brunswick Stew were fantastic!

When we arrived the parking lot was packed and vehicles were in the overflow area. We waited about 5 minutes to be seated. The table they brought us to had not been wiped down from the previous patrons. Went to the restroom to wash my hands. The men's bathroom certainly could have used attention and the paper towels were out. We all ordered a root beer. All of us agreed the Rootbeer was completely flat and tasted watered down even though they said it came from a 2 liter. The next round we ordered sweet tea. But it was barely sweet and sadly no packets of sugar on the table. During our entire time the waitress didn't remove one dish or glass from the table. We were seated at a small square table and it became very hard to sit and eat properly due to this. Gloves were provided at the buffet serving station. I tried a little bit of most things. 01 Coleslaw, hush puppy. Average on both 02 Grouper sea bass, cat fish. Not much seasoning at all, and very slightly over cooked 03 Sautéed shrimp, very lightly seasoned with what looked like boil seasoning 04 Baked imitation crab, barely seasoned 05 Crawfish, the first batch went through a full seasoned boil and the tails were flavorful for the ones I could actually eat. Quite a few the tail meat was mushy and a very dark gray. The 2nd batch they skipped a formal and proper boil. The meat was flavorless and tasted as if it was simply boiled in water. 06 clam strips and fried scallop pieces, average at best. 07 cheese grits very soupy and not much flavor 08 peel and eat shrimp, decent flavor with a slight lemon undertone. The cocktail sauce was on the table in a red squeeze bottle. 09 banana pudding, I liked it quite a bit 10 Chocolate pudding with wafers, weird chocolate flavor. Everyone at our table pretty much agrees with the assessment of what I just wrote. The building inside and out needs updating. The seafood buffet was I think $24 dollars each or so. Sadly I was pretty disappointed overall and we will not be eating there again. Especially with the waitress leaving everything to stack up and not remove anything at all. We sat at the table for at least 5-7 minutes in a quite obvious manner that we were done. She visited the two table right beside us and never brought the bill. I decided to take it upon myself to just go up to the cash register and tell them what we had. She must have noticed me waiting in line to pay and brought our bill to me.
