The Mammoth Sampler
Karen L.

The Mammoth Sampler is huge! It is definitely for sharing. The portions are generous and oh so good! Their bbq sauce is to die for. The staff are friendly and attentive. If you like bbq, it is a good place to try.

Beef brisket with sides: green beans, smoked cabbage, and cornbread.

Stopped in for lunch (2:15 p.m.) on a Monday. Our server was on top of it. Brought refills before empty and our food was brought out in ~ 5 minutes. I ordered the beef brisket with smoked cabbage, green beans, and cornbread. The smoked cabbage was very tasty. The green beans were nothing special. It could have been any of a dozen kind of beans. The brisket was okay. Again, nothing special. Their spicy bee sauce (which is on the table) had a lot of smoke flavor and was tasty. The ambiance is a casual family style setting. According to the menu, it looks like Guy Fieri from Diners, Drive-ins, and Dives stopped here because there's a menu item that he is credited for creating. Overall, I would give it 3.5/5 for food. 5/5 for service and 3.5/5 for am

We dropped in here for the first time, I had the Balboa Philly Steak Sandwich, which is inspired by the movie Rocky, and is chopped beef brisket, grilled peppers and onions with Swiss cheese and grilled hoagie bun, with one side, My wife had the Hornet's Nest, which is pilled high with Smoked Pork served on the house made tortilla chips, topped with jalapeños, white queso, lettuce and tomatoes. For Dessert we had the White Chocolate Raspberry Cake which is a a two tier white wedding cake layered with a raspberry filling and is topped with white chocolate buttercream. If you get the chance please try Kayla's Dessert, it is a unique homemade dessert that is done daily by the owners daughter in law.

Huge portions at an awesome price, great service and delicious food. What more can you ask for. We stopped here for dinner last night and was pleasantly surprised. There was plenty of seating and a salad bar! For dinner, we got the mammoth sampler and the king potato. The amount of meat alone on the sampler is enough for 2 days for 2 of us let alone the 4 sides and bread lol. Overall, definitely recommend for some down home cooking in the area

Sliced pork butt

Located just off I-65 interior really can't decide what it is... some diner vibe with Elvis and Marilyn... they allow people to write on walls... I don't particularly like that but it ain't my place. Food was well within bbq standards. I got the sliced pork butt. Basically a thin cut pork chop but 3 or 4 in an order. Flavor was good but a little tough. Decent menu. They have a pulled pork baked potato I regret not getting. Waitress was Kaylee... nice kid. Service was efficient and friendly. Price was what you would expect for interstate adjacent... overall I'll probably stop in next time I'm in the area

Brisket baked potato

Our family had three King Ransom potatoes, one with brisket, one with grilled chicken, and one with pulled pork. All three were delicious, but the chicken was the absolute best. Very flavorful, and the portion sizes were enormous. Service was great, never had to wait for a thing. Great experience and would highly recommend.

The atmosphere with the decor and music was fun, the food and service both amazing! Very friendly staff and our food was out within 10 minutes. Our table had the loaded nachos, King potato, grilled cheese, macaroni, fried green tomatoes, BLT and pork chops. Serving sizes very generous and only 1 person finished their food. Was sad I was full because their chocolate chip cookies looked amazing!

I know I have ignored this place when I've gotten off to gas up at this exit but that won't happen again. Great family run BBQ joint. Service is spot on the menu is easy to navigate spotless floors and tables. Wait what is best about taking time to stopping in is the flavor and I really enjoyed the over the top baked potato loaded and then smothered with pulled pork BBQ huge potato with a half pound or more pulled pork the sides my wife got were very well done and I always love the flapjack cornbread. You will be glad you stopped by.

Forgot to get the pic before we dug in. This is the Mammoth Sampler and I had the King Size baked potato with pulled pork. Food is really good. Lose one star for no diaper changing station in the bathrooms. Super important amenity when you're traveling with a baby! Decor is cute country. Along with photos of famous people and historical events. Wait staff super friendly and helpful. Will stop again when in the area.

Brisket Tacos

SUPERB! Spent the morning at Mammoth Cave and had a 5 hour drive ahead of me and wanted something substantial so I wouldn't have to stop and eat-- this was so perfect!! Staff was very sweet and the atmosphere is what you want in a sweet little bbq spot. Definitely recommend the tacos, but so many other things looked great

Sampler

Staff very friendly. Place is quaint. Has a lot of memorabilia. We got the sampler and wow we could not finish at all! Reasonable pricing.

Lemonade (NOT too sweet!)

Top notch place! The Bucky Pie was absolutely delicious! Hubs ordered the Pork Shoulder Dinner and was VERY impressed with the flavor and tenderness (we call 'em pork steaks). 2 huge pieces!!! The service was excellent and the building is cute, clean and comfy. Considering how much food you get, the prices are very reasonable. Loved this place!

Let's start with the expected: chicken fried chicken was amazing. The loaded fry appetizer also amazing. Sides were great. Mac and cheese and green beans both well above average to me. The waitresses were all so helpful and sweet. But let's talk about the other amazing part. This place feels right out of a post apocalyptic movie! If you've ever wanted to feel "out of this world" or in a community fenced off from the zombie apocalypse and struggling to make you feel some normalcy in your life... THIS IS THE PLACE. My goodness I loved it. An old couple in the corner was playing some Garth Brooks covers to set the mood. A "straight from the 80s arcade room" in the back had some flashing lights shine through the doorway into the main dining room. Also... this place was packed. The dusty parking lot did not have a single spot for us open and we had to wait on a parking spot. No wait when we got inside luckily. But back to the post apocalyptic vibe... I really can't explain it much better. The 80s arcade... the wood paneling on the walls. The old toy heavy machinery and trains lining the walls. The smell of the food thickening the air. Even the staff... all unique as can be!!! Don't forget the overstock Christmas plates they pulled out for us to use!!! Highly recommend this place for the food... but if you've ever wanted to experience what a restaurant would be like after the zombies take over... Give yourself a treat and come here!!!

Today we had the best Cracker Barrel experience ever at the Cave City, KY location…read more Quick backstory: today was the big ice/snow storm sweeping across the U.S. Our family was vacationing in Florida when our flights were canceled, and the airline offered zero real help. So we made the tough call to drive from Florida to Chicago -- a 16-hour journey. As we headed north, the weather kept getting worse. After about 8 hours, we decided to stop and rest, hoping the roads would improve the next day. They didn't. Instead, we were met with glistening ice-covered forests and roads that looked like they were made for ice skating. Nearly everything was closed -- McDonald's, restaurants, even gas stations (thank goodness for Buc-ee's). Then, like a miracle, we found Cracker Barrel open for business. From the moment we walked in, the hostesses greeted us with warm smiles and seated us by the fireplace. Every single person we interacted with showed true Southern hospitality and genuine kindness. It felt less like stopping at a restaurant and more like being welcomed in from the storm. The food was exactly what you'd expect -- consistently amazing -- but the service is what truly stood out. In the middle of a stressful, exhausting journey, this place gave us comfort, warmth, and a much-needed sense of care. If you're ever near this location, expect great food -- but more importantly, know that you'll be in very good hands. Sincerely, Your friends from Chicago!

Someone decided to pay for our meal. That was a very sweet gesture. The waitress states that every now and then someone does that. That made my friend tear up a little bit. Nice to know that there are still nice folks in this world.

I walked in the front door and about 10 people came in from a "side area" and lined up right in front of me!! Maybe they had all been in the Restaurant section. I don't know but it didnt start out well. A young girl finally took my order. My dog was in the car...as I had to drive there to order.... and when I ordered the girl said 15-30 mins. I said ok. I returned to my car as my little dog was there. I waited 20 mins and went back inside. I asked the other lady if it was ready and I couldn't hear her reply, so I asked again, and omg she SCREAMED at me and said "it's almost done"! I said I'm sorry I couldn't hear you. The restaurant was full and the ovens etc were all on so there was a lot of extra noise. I have a little difficulty hearing so I asked again how long. I was on my phone (trying to kill time) and even my friend could hear her over the phone and said oh my. What happened? I said this lady just screamed at me!. I was soo embarsssed I could have cried. She was so rude and unnecessarily so. How embarrassing. I travel here for work. I'm a professional. My med pizza was $30 and mediocre. The mushrooms were not fresh, but canned or jarred. It was just she was so mean it took me off guard. I'm almost 70 and have a little difficulty hearing but she didn't need to scream at me. I was mortified. Please do not do that to your patrons. It's not nice. You never know who you're taking with!!! I believe the taller lady in back with the sauce was the owner and if she wasn't so busy I would certainly mentioned it to her. I am not from here and it was not a pleasant experience. I won't return and feel that if they had just left their phones on and answered one by one they would have done just as well?!! If you have the time, patience and don't mind being rude to.... go ahead and try it. Me, I won't go back. I'd rather drive thru McDonald's!!! People may not remember what you said but they will ALWAYS remember how you made them feel! I may need hearing aides but she needs to take a course in kindness and respect. Sorry. I hope she wasn't the owner. The staff member at the cash register with a scarf around her head.
