On our little road trip, we decided to stop at Cracker Barrel. Food and service were great. It's been a while since I have been to Cracker Barrel but it looks like they have added new items to the menu. Our waitress was very, very nice. We also had a blessing while inside. Someone decided to pay for our meal. That was a very sweet gesture. The waitress states that every now and then someone does that. That made my friend tear up a little bit. We've seen Cracker Barrel stores around but have never been in so we were quite confused when we walked through the door and it was a shop instead of a restaurant! Food/Taste/Flavor: 5/5 - ordered Grilled Catfish and Country Fried Steak. We were debating between the grilled and fried and the waitress recommended the grilled and it was AMAZING! It was so tender, light, and flaky with just with a touch of citrus. The country fried steak was fried well with a delicious gravy to smother it with. While the mains were on the saltier side, the mac and cheese and mashed potatoes where on the milder side so it went perfectly. We never had fried apples before so decided to get it as a side and it was delicious! Service: 5/5 - they assume everyone has been in the store before and knows where to order and where to pay. However, everyone we talked to was extremely friendly and helpful once they realize it's our first time! Ambiance: n/a - ordered food to go so we didn't step into the restaurant itself. We ordered take out. Always check your order before leaving. I didn't and lived to regret it. I ordered the pancake dinner. My father couldn't eat the sausage and they didn't give him any syrup! I also ordered the turkey and dressing meal. No cranberry sauce. I asked for extra butter and napkins. They skipped that too. They highlighted everything on the receipt like they had reviewed it but it was obvious they didn't. Today we had the best Cracker Barrel experience ever at the Cave City, KY location. Quick backstory: today was the big ice/snow storm sweeping across the U.S. Our family was vacationing in Florida when our flights were canceled, and the airline offered zero real help. So we made the tough call to drive from Florida to Chicago -- a 16-hour journey. As we headed north, the weather kept getting worse. After about 8 hours, we decided to stop and rest, hoping the roads would improve the next day. They didn't. Instead, we were met with glistening ice-covered forests and roads that looked like they were made for ice skating. Nearly everything was closed -- McDonald's, restaurants, even gas stations (thank goodness for Buc-ee's). Then, like a miracle, we found Cracker Barrel open for business. From the moment we walked in, the hostesses greeted us with warm smiles and seated us by the fireplace. Every single person we interacted with showed true Southern hospitality and genuine kindness. It felt less like stopping at a restaurant and more like being welcomed in from the storm. The food was exactly what you'd expect -- consistently amazing -- but the service is what truly stood out. In the middle of a stressful, exhausting journey, this place gave us comfort, warmth, and a much-needed sense of care. Diner Character Founded in 1969, Cracker Barrel is a unique diner and a gift shop experience that now sports over 660 locations in 45 states. Cracker Barrel specializes in American comfort foods and has always had a pretty decent breakfast in my experience. We popped into this Cave City location after a long, hot day at nearby Mammoth Cave National Park. The Good: *The prices are downright ridiculously inexpensive, but we're from Cali, so take that with a grain of salt. *Our waitress, Morgan, was excellent. Friendly, fast, and checked on us just enough without being obnoxious. *Complimentary biscuits were fire. Make sure to get their house apple butter for a nominal 50¢ surcharge. *Fried Chicken dinner was delightfully crispy and cooked perfectly. My only complaint was that the batter could've used more flavor, but overall, it was very not bad. *Turnip greens were fire and about as good as I've had at any southern restaurant. The Meh: *Gift shop is a little hokey, but it's part of the charm. The Ugly: *I wasn't a fan of the hasbrown casserole, as it was a stodgy, flavorless mess. Excellent customer service, tasty breakfast! Overall, the breakfast was very good, but the sides for the breakfast were lacking. The chicken fried steak and the chicken fried chicken were amazing. The breading on each was done right. It has the right amount of crispness to it. The eggs were also good. They were cooked perfectly. We ordered over hard, over medium, and scrambled. All eggs were cooked to perfection. The biscuits and gravy were also delicious. We asked for extra gravy, and they delivered! It is a must! I ordered the vanilla iced latte and it was so tasty! It was not too sweet or bitter - it was just right! The sides for the breakfast are subpar. This is why I docked 1 star in my review. They were forgettable. However, the star of the breakfast stole the show. The country store is also quite cute. The rocking chairs are amazing. I travel the US on long distance road trips. I keep giving CB a chance. Yet again disappointed on a 5000 mile road trip (Sept 2025). Ordered the grilled catfish dinner. The service/wait person was great. Friendly and attentive. The catfish part of the meal was really good. The cornbread muffin that was served was a cold dried "clinker" to say the least. My same complaint about CB's biscuits. Dry and hard, often not warm enough to melt butter. Old out of a package? Same with their tasteless topping they call sausage gravy. It's across the chain (Which is why I was giving the grilled catfish a chance). Not one to complain, make a scene, or send things back, or not want to pay. (If I get to that point I definitely will not return - it makes for too much of a negative personal experience) I left the server a handsome tips because she was not the problem. But once again disappointed by the quality and taste of CB. Their executive managers need to eat in their own restaurants across the county. Incognito, dressed like an average Joe. Fix your recipes and delivery of your products, if you want new customers, or old ones to return. I only stopped once at a CB this trip. Normally it's multiples. read more

This is the main place to eat in Cave City. We headed there for dinner, looking for something lighter to eat. There were only 2 salads on the menu, neither of which sounded good at that time so I opted for the veggie soup and a baked potato. The soup was good and relatively full of veggies. It also came with 2 saltines. The potato was a good size but ice cold. Husband had the loaded potato and also cold. We kindly asked our waitress to warm them up for us and they came back steaming hot and much better tasting. The staff was all masked. They bussed tables immediately and the restaurant was clean. If you've read my reviews, I don't typically go to chain restaurants, but I do love Cracker Barrel mostly for country store & their reasonably priced food...and of course, hashbrown casserole My only complaint is that they don't open until 7 am. Food was consistent. Our waitress was attentive, yet allowed us time to catch up. My favorites are the BYO Breakfast, Grandma's Sampler, grilled chicken with sides of fried okra & hashbrown casserole, & grilled chicken salad. I'd like to try their impossible sausage next time. Hard to review since we were not able to get a table. We tried three times on our travels this weekend. Each time we we had to wait 10 minutes or more to get our name into the system. On top of the 30-40 minute wait for a table we were told there is not enough staff to provide the service so there would be a wait once we were seated. CB generally has a long service time to get the wait staff to take your order then a long wait time to get your food. When your traveling you don't want to spend an hour or more for a meal. And by the way, in each location there were open tables, many open tables. But what I discovered this weekend at three different locations is that CB really doesn't need or want customers. In each situation we were able to find a comparable diner that would do anything for customers since they were small business owners providing excellent service, quality food, served timely, and for a price that was less than CB. As a multi location establishment CB needs to turn this around before it is too late. read more

I was hesitant to visit because of some of these reviews but Cracker Barrel experiences seem to be hit or miss... and this one was definitely a hit!! We travel a lot and our kiddos love Cracker Barrel, 3/5ths of us had a dumplings craving so we stopped here. Jaime was our waitress and she was the best! Friendly, always checking on us, and getting whatever we needed right away. Very patient with our kiddos and every order was correct and delicious. This experience felt like the good, ole' pre-covid Cracker Barrel. ALL the rockers were out front with checkers, the store was full of the classic Christmas and Thanksgiving merch, and we got a basket of biscuits right in the beginning without having to ask! The portions were not lacking, and our food came out from the kitchen fast and hot. The bathroom could be cleaned a bit better and that was the only thing. One of the stalls did not lock. But in my opinion it wasn't a big enough issue to knock a star off... we're just so happy that Cracker Barrel seems to be coming back! We thought covid and inflation was killing it.
