The place is cool, it looks and feels like an Italian restaurant from a mob movie. Thats kind of where it ends for me. The service was not great. Fantastic. Atmosphere. Service. Food. Everything here sets a good night. It is classy inside without being too formal. Seating is comfortable. I like the dark wood and there was a gorgous tree for the Holiday season that added to a romantic and classic atmosphere. I am sure that anything on the menu here is good but we always stick to the pizzas. Amazing crust. And they balance the toppings like a symphony. Each bite has the perfect combo in your mouth. We sampled two The Godfather and the Cappricio. Both were excellent. My husband liked The Godfather because of the meat ratio but I was equally happy with mine. Although to be honest the best pizza for me is Dante's Inferno if you like spice. Service was friendly and prompt. Defeinately a place to check out. I came to Ragazzi for lunch a while back. They had nice décor, good service, and a relaxing atmosphere. As for the food, I tried their Pescatora. Proportion of everything was nice: shrimp, clams, and linguine. The linguine was fresh and the shrimps were quite sweet. However, the entire dish was slightly saltier than expected. One thing to note is that they also have a lunch portion that has less food and is also a few dollars less than the regular. Overall, I'd give them 8.3/10 read more

Ragazzi's Bistro Italiano 8110 Whyte Ave was a great find. I've driven past this unassuming black awning establishment many times and today acted on my curiosity. Getting greeted by both front of house and the chef in the kitchen was very welcoming and the interior is cozy and intimate. We both opted for pizza but there is a lunch menu for pastas mainly that looked tempting as well. Service is great and the pizzas were presented on individual pedestal stands that I love. Very high quality ingredients and the crust was stellar- thin but delightfully chewy and flavoursome- my friend had the vegetarian and I had the deluxe(prosciutto, Italian sausage, mushrooms, and fresh- yes fresh, artichoke!) small pizza is 12 inches and one with a glass of house wine was $32- I'll be back to try the pasta. Good pizza in Edmonton sure is a hard thing to find. The only place that pops into my mind is Tony's Pizza Palace (sorry not sorry Famosa, Lovepizza, insert any other crappy chain restaurant). Well, my Italian bud L was craving pizza so he suggested we try out Ragazzi Bistro Italiano. Originally beginning as Pizza Boys, they changed their name to the Italian equivalent of boys and the rest is history. Family run and off the beaten track, it sounded like we would be in good hands for our Wednesday evening dinner. You'll find Ragazzi east of the main strip of Whyte. I've never spotted their storefront myself even though I've driven by many times. Their restaurant blends in with the rest of their tiny strip mall compatriots. I think what deterred me from going sooner was that their website has no menu prices up. Seriously, hate that. The inside is interesting. You see the bar and kitchen the moment you walk in. We were pleasantly greeted by both our waitress and one of the chefs who was busy making a pizza but stopped to say hello. Nice touch. A stone arch splits the restaurant into half (original in the front, old in the back with a few more comfy booths). The place already had a few occupied tables when we arrived around 6:15pm but the front half was completely full by the time we left. The menu is split into appetizers, pizza, pasta and grill. Wanted to try their famous Soprano bread but seeing as there were only two of us, we opted to go big with two 16" inch pizzas instead. Maybe next time as several tables ordered it! 17 pizzas to choose from. Way too many choices and sadly, I asked the waitress after our meal and they don't let you do half flavours. Bummer. Three sizes to choose from (12", 14" and 16") and price ranges from $15-$30. Prices are on the higher spectrum but this is pretty much on par with Tony's. Not sure about their pastas - saw a large group of old grannies order a couple different dishes and they looked pretty ordinary. Sometimes you have to stick with what a restaurant does best and here, it's their thin crust pizza. - Davide's inferno ($25.00 for 16") - marinated tomatoes, Italian sausage, casalingo salami, mixed blend of cheese and spices. FYI - this one has a four spice level rating. FOUR spice. No big deal right? Well, that's what we thought because normally these things aren't accurate. Well, you've been warned - we both took our first bites and were greeted with a delicious wave of hot chili flakes and spices. Oh and these pizzas come out straight from the oven - maybe wait a minute or two before you start devouring them. I may have slightly burned the top of my mouth - totally worth it. Flavours were great with the variety of meats, sweet tomatoes and spice level. Get it. - Pizza con spinaci ($25.00 for 16") - spinach, black olives, a blend of Parmesan, mozzarella and feta cheese. Our only complaint was that the centre turned out a bit soggy. The rest was good as you could taste each ingredient on it's own accord. First time for me having spinach on a pizza - I think I like arugula more so as spinach doesn't have much flavour while arugula has that slight punch of anise. L liked how they used a subtle, neutral tomato sauce to keep things classic. - Caffe latte ($3.75) - a typical after dinner drink my bud always gets. Smelled great. Add tons of sugar, mix and enjoy. Think of at like a dessert drink. Simple, homemade and unpretentious fare. Stick with the pizzas and you can't go wrong. Maybe there is hope for pizza in town after all... read more

Best of everything as usual. Table for 4 reserved. Ready upon our early arrival. Drinks arrived quickly. Just wine and beer, so nothing fancy. They don't have draught beer. We had the calamari and antipasto plate to start. Both were lovely. Our pizza selections were the margarita and the deluxe. The only thing that could make the deluxe pizza better would be the addition of mushrooms. Since the pizza boys don't like customers screwing with their ingredients, don't even ask. The margarita pizza was good, but they could have used more basil. The spinach salad with added chicken was beautiful. Huge!!! You won't have room for pizza. We ordered way too much food and took lots of it home. The staff was super nice to us. It's quiet in there. You could have a romantic dinner. It's been renovated since my last visit. I decided to try this place for the first time tonight for my mom's birthday. We ordered a pizza and the cannelloni. As everyone has said before, the pizza is just like me and others have had in New York- very crispy and thin with tasty sauce and great toppings to make it a perfectly authentic Italian pizza! The cannelloni was very flavorful too and the service was friendly and attentive. We also ordered the red velvet cake and tiramisu for dessert and both tasted very authentic and delicious. We were looking for a place to go close to home, and we were really, really impressed. There is a serious sketchiness to the outside of this restaurant, which is located in a strip mall. Once you get inside, however, that all changes. I love Italian food. Both mine and the bf's meals were great- I had the spaghetti al pomodoro & basilico and he had the fettuccine alla panna. We also had chocolate cheesecake for dessert which was totally worth ignoring my lactose intolerance for. Our server was friendly and funny, and service was good. I came in for a quick lunch on Friday and it was okay. I ordered a chicken panini that came with a side Salad and my partner had a peperoni & bacon pizza. Our server was not the best but she was the only server in the entire restaurant, so I was forgiving. I ordered a coffee and contemplated on a glass of wine... I of course had just one lol Our food came and it was ok, it was still good but it didn't knock our socks off. My panini was just a sandwich with lettuce, tomato, grilled chicken (kinda dry), and a little bit of pesto sauce on my bread. My salad was just tomatoes, garlic, a very small amount of basil (which I love basil so I was disappointed with the tiny amount and I mean I saw 2 small leaves). The dressing was good though, it had olive oil in which I dipped my bread with. My partner said his pizza was pretty average. Since being home from our European tour, me and my sister have been on the hunt for authentic Italian food (read: no more Olive Garden!!!). So for her birthday, I googled places where we can get an Anchovy pizza as that was what we frequently ordered when were on our trip. Ragazzi was my husband's recommendation as he had lunch here previously with former co-workers. First up, the service was very prompt and friendly. Our server Emma answered our questions about the food readily and helped us make decisions especially since me and my sister was torn between the Pizza Toscana (Anchovy pizza) and the Frutti de Mare. We chose the latter and was just floored at all the flavours that came right at us. Molto delizioso! We also tried the Polpette - meatballs in tomato sauce. The kids loved it that we barely had enough to share. The Euro calamari came with this spicy tomato sauce that worked well with the almost naked calamari. The men opted to go for the pasta. One chose the Carbonara and the other one ordered the Rigatoni alla Bolognese. Both of them enjoyed their meal and the little of the Bolognese I tried was pretty tasty. Overall, this place is top notch. Can't believe I've lived here in Edmonton for 9 years and only now just discovered this place. I feel like I need to go more now to make up for lost time! I came here with a group recently and although we arrived at slightly different times and didn't know at first exactly how many of us would be present, the eight of us were seated relatively quickly and while the business served us relatively slowly given the size of our group, and they were out of soup, the food was absolutely delicious once it did arrive! Plus, I loved the fact that they offered a good selection of non-alcoholic beverage options that are traditional to Italy -- like Chinotto for example! The salad, bread, and pasta I had was wonderful. It was a great evening with friends and the food certainly hit the spot. My friend and I went for lunch on December 20th (Wednesday). She order a pasta dish and I ordered gluten-free pizza - Margherita. We loved our food; hot, delicious and my GF pizza was not over-baked and was really tasty with the special cheese and tomato sauce. I will be adding cheese for future visits. She had the house white and I had the house red - we liked our wines. And we ordered a piece of carrot cake to split (it was a late birthday present for me). It was gluten-free and not dried out at all. Lots of whip cream. The coffee was excellent - not too strong and really good. I did pay extra for my GF pizza. I will say that I have tried 4 other "pizza" places for GF pizza and they either were over-baked and burned; very greasy and terrible. I will go back to Ragazzi for any future GF pizzas. Overall, it was a busy lunch day and the servers were really good. My friend and I will go back again. We had kind of a lukewarm experience at Ragazzi. Definitely a cool little place, the decor is very nice and has a warm, Italian restaurant kind of feel. The service was friendly, but when a meal was "forgotten", there was no offer from the server of any kind of explanation or apology, nor was there any compensation for the error. The food itself was not bad, but, in this reviewer's opinion, certainly not the best pizza I have ever had. I always judge the quality of pizza by the ingredients and the crust. The crust was a thin crust but kind of "cracker-ey". The toppings were good but not overwhelming in terms of quantity. Overall, like I mentioned, lukewarm. read more

Been here many times. Very, very good thin crust NY style pizza. New York Spice is superb, as is the Margarita. Service, however is usually pretty bad. Inattentive, which is really odd, especially when the place is only half full. Only one waitress available. Always thought that these guys just had bad luck with their wait staff, and then realized the problem is that the kitchen staff are always seemingly trying to chat up the waitresses and distracting them from serving the customers. Hey, guys in the kitchen! This is a workplace, not a singles bar! Let the waitress do their job, so you can try to do a better job of yours. Like answering the phone, taking orders, and not just standing around talking and watching the waitress do all the work. Management really needs to work on the service because this place could be making a fortune... And start opening on Sundays, while you're at it. read more

This cute little place looks a little like a dive on the outside but the inside is very quaint. The service was good; we never had empty glasses. Very nice mood and wasn't too loud we were there. Appetizers were phenomenal. I had the calamari and my fiancee had the soprano bread. Both are a must try! Our entrees were not bad but a bit plain considering it followed such fantastic Appetizers. We had the spaghetti with meatballs and the butter cream fettuccine with chicken. Overall I think we'd come back! Perhaps next time we'll try the pizza! read more

I love it when diners put their menus on their website, so it saves time deciding. I find that the portions are bigger when you pick up versus ordering in. However, if you do dine in, they offer the best bread in olive oil/red wine vinegar sauce. YUM! The first thing that I have ever ordered from this family owned diner was Linguine Alle Vongole in white wine sauce -- still my favourite to this day. Their ravioli and cannelloni are very delicious as well; my significant other loves their gnocchi. Pizzas are great! We are often too full from dinner portions to try dessert, so no comment yet. Prices are very reasonable; it would come to about just over $30 for two people, which covers tips and non-alchoholic beverages. Around the Bonnie Doon/ Argyll area, this is by far the best Italian restaurant. We've tried Brioni and it's nowhere near as good as Ragazzi Bistro. I mean, the chef/owner himself (one of the brothers) is so friendly and remembers us. :) He genuinely cares about how we like the food. You can't get that anywhere else -- not even Sicilian Pasta Kitchen. It puts a smile on my face every time we visit. Now, that's Amore!!! read more

But usually I'm leaving happily full, and at times even uncomfortably so; hence it's no big deal. But there was no happily full departure this time; there was just departure. I left due a long wait, and the bad energy associated with a bunch of people that have already been hungry and waiting too long. I eavesdropped to find out it was due to a great newspaper review. So I thought I would add to their problems by writing another great review! Well, not quite! When I did check to see if there was one here already, and I was shocked to find that there wasn't. Because people that love thin crust pizza should really know about this place. I have tried many of the choices (with the traditional Margherita topping the list), and have never been disappointed with the quality. The Volare hand-tossed crust is definitely something these boys have mastered. And I love the fact that they have Italian beer to go with the flying pizza. So, go! But not quite yet... Give them some time to hire extra kitchen help and wait staff. Although, they may have to import them from Italy. These pizza boys are actual ragazzi (which means guys in Italian). They yell in Italian at each other and a waitress (that I can only imagine is part of their family), and I can bet their Mamma helped them decorate (it's the light fixtures that give it away). Great Italian food and wood-fired pizza. I like it in part because it's an independently and family-owned restaurant, and also because it's relatively close to my home. On my second and most recent visit, I was surprised by how much busier it was than the first time I was there. I was actually surprised to have been asked for a reservation, which is obviously good news for them and a bit of a faux pas on my part for not having made any. However, the hostess (who had a great smile) accommodated us. The two of us were seated in a booth and shortly afterwards a large group of people (a dozen or more) was seated next to us. They probably could have used our booth, frankly, which made me appreciate the restaurant making room for us all the more. My friend had the gnochi and I had pizza again: the Bronx. For a 12" pizza, it was about $19 which is a bit more than you'd pay in most city pizza joints ... but all the ingredients are fresh and delicious so no regrets. Our party of 7 made a 630pm reservation (highly recommended) on a Saturday night (it was busy), and were promptly seated. Water was served quickly as were our drinks. Our appetizers followed and while the main courses did not all appear simultaneously and took some time, the pizzas were well worth waiting for. Our waitress, while not overtly friendly, was pleasant and efficient. The Soprano bread appetizer was delicious (I removed the thin anchovy strips) and more than enough for four people. Thin crust pizza is my favourite, and it is exceptional here. There are many pizza combinations to choose from. You can even customize and build your own. The dry white wine I had as suggested by our waitress was quite enjoyable. The full bar is also a good thing. Will definitely be going back!! read more

Back in March, as part of our little school's "holiday" dinner out (yes, this is how we roll...time is well, when we can get it ;-D ). In any case, we wanted to make our way to Ragazzi Bistro because some of our teachers had never dined here. Finally open after the accident (car crashed into the building) and renovation, they are up and happily cooking! We were in 5 and ordered the Calamari for appetizer, 4 pizze (the Davide's Inferno, Deluxe, Pizza con Spinaci, and Ragazzi) along with a dish of Penne all'Andrea ... we also ordered the Soprano bread as part of the appetizer order. The Calamari were very good and crispy...they serve, on the side, a tomato sauce which we didn't use as they also bring lemon on the side which we did use and enjoyed. Not salty and certainly not rubbery, we looked forward to our pizze and pasta dish. The pizze were very good and if you like crispy crust (some do and some don't), they were all very well cooked...and our selections were very much enjoyed by us (we ordered the 12 inch pizze). I finished mine and so did one more colleague, but two of us took some of it home since it was too much for them :-) The penne ordered were al dente which is always nice (admittedly, for me, a hint overcooked, but al dente they were for the one who ordered them). Also, the sauce all'Andrea was not too much, well proportioned to the amount of pasta. Our only disappointment was the Soprano Bread--it was undercooked (which didn't happen the last time I ordered it). The chef was kind enough to take it off our bill...having said what I said, I think the glitch was that it was braided a bit too thick for the baking method this time. We will be returning over the next months for sure as one colleague couldn't make it and will enjoy more pizze and piatti di pasta :-) read more

Pouzano salad was great. The pizza though. Their namesake I'm sorry! But I don't remember this when I had my first and only pie from these brothers. I don't expect many fans here either but the crust seemed packaged and frozen before. In my photo you can see how perfect it is! Too perfect. Maybe it being pre froze helps the dough not droop?
