Overall I think Buddha Thai is the best Thai place in Boulder. Their curries and other dishes are flavorful and good, and they also have good size portions for the price. They have one of the better pad thais around, and the best pad see ewe and green curry. It's a slightly better place to take out of than to eat in, mainly because the eat in waits seem longer, and the restaurant atmosphere is so-so, not bad but not great. Definitely would reccomend checking out Buddha Thai if you're in Boulder and looking for Thai food. read more

I just had my first meal from this place. Meh. I called late so they only had curries left, so I went with the green curry. I usually make green curry, but I was lazy (and my fridge is empty) so I ordered instead. The service was exceptionally fast, and friendly. But the food was not so hot. The curry sauce was too spicy and too sweet. It's a strange feeling knowing there's a lot of sugar in the curry. There wasn't a finesse to the curry. The veggies they put in there were disappointing too. I've never seen zucchini and green peppers a green curry before, and I'm not a fan. Both those items were cooked to where they started getting smushy. It's a huge amount for just under $10, but I couldn't order this again. It was a slapped together meh-feeling meal. Came here for lunch. The prices were great, the service was good... BUT! The food. It just didn't have good flavor to it. I ordered a chow mein noodle plate and was all excited because I wanted to eat the broccoli, mushrooms, and cabbage. I took some cooking classes up at the culinary school. The chef who taught my class focused on Vietnamese and Thai food. He told us that for the best Vietnamese food in the area to visit Chez Thuy, and for the best Thai that it had to be Buddha. He may have been right on both counts. Get a seat outside at Buddha if it is nice. Start with a thai tea and make sure to get an order of satay for an appetizer as well as one of their types of homemade crispy dumplings. Whatever entree you go with make sure to get it at least medium spicy in order to experience the full flavors. It is inexpensive and excellent. I've been very happy with most of my meals at Buddha Thai - great serving sizes and pretty delicious, and I love that they offer brown rice. But, I have to take off stars for a few concerning reasons: First, even 1-star is pretty spicy here. I actually like spice, but anything over 2 stars is inedible here. Second, unlike some of the other Thai places here, they really don't do well with substitutions or offer healthy oil choices. I love that a competitor offers coconut oil for another 50 cents, and it would be awesome if Buddha Thai could do the same. Third, beware of their coconut tapioca dessert. This has always been one of my favorite desserts, but I can't order it here. Why? It's bright green!!! Disappointed, I asked the kitchen why their tapioca was green, hoping it would be a natural surprise of an answer. No luck. They said it just comes green. Was one of my favorite restaurants for so many years, but the food quality is dropping drastically the past couple of times I was there. Did they change the chef or what ? We ordered Tofu Pad Phed, Ginger Tofu and Red Curry. Had trouble eating anything but Ginger Tofu as the flavor seems to be lost in translation. Terribly disappointed as a long time customer. To add to the flavor I got (as I always do) the chilli paste, which unfortunately was stale and sour. I hope they fix their problems fast. Buddha is my favorite Thai food in Boulder and the restaurant is great. It is an authentic feel since the family that owns it are all Thai, they have nice photography on the walls, although the ambience generally is a bit sparse. The curries are my favorite and for my palette (which likes a good amount of spice), I choose 4/5 spicy for my food. 5/5 is wildly hot and meant essentially for native Thais (a good indicator that the place is authentic). Not vegan friendly and not the place to go if you like to customize your order. And Be wary of their spice!! I was looking for a new Thai place in Boulder and a friend recommended Buddha Thai. We started off with the tom Ka soup and asked them to leave out the fish and oyster sauce. It was delicious, I'd go back for the soup. Unfortunately they don't offer small soups and $10 for an appetizer soup is a bit much on a consistent basis. I usually order a small soup for half that price, which comes with my meal. The meal was really disappointing. I ordered the Thai basil and asked them to leave off all fish and oyster sauce and steam sauté it with water instead of oil. They left off all sauce and served it with just steamed vegetables. I was disappointed and asked for a side of sauce. They said all the sauce has fish or oyster sauce and brought a side of hot and sour which wasn't good. I didn't like the main meal. Also, I like medium so ordered 2/5. It was quite spicy and that's coming from someone who likes spice. The other people in my group don't like spice and ordered 1/5 and it was a little too spicy for them although still enjoyable. We just needed lots of water and napkins. If I returned, I wouldn't custom order my dish. But I want to see what other Thai places in Boulder can make my food how I like it. read more

We were wandering around boulder looking for a good meal when everything we could have hoped for was closed as it was new years day. We stumbled up Buddha cafe with positive intentions for tastey food. We were greeted by a friendly server and reviewed the menu. We ordered the Tom yum hot and sour soup and it was sooo incredibly tastey. We also got the drunken noodles and the cashew stir fry. Both fantastic!! I have gone back many times since this occasion and every time have been in absolute food bliss! The Tom Kha is by far my favorite dish, I have never been without ordering it. Offensive customer service. My family used to order Buddha Thai on a weekly basis... I ordered the same set of dishes that I have come to enjoy from the restaurant (some can be fantastic, some are not good). Unfortunately, the quality of the food at Buddha Thai steeply drops when busy, especially with delivery orders. I've called twice to complain about poorly prepared dishes (that I have enjoyed previously plenty of times in the past) and the supervisor/manager/whomever literally told me I "did not know Thai food and I just ordered the wrong dish." And they persisted!!! I told them I knew the dish and it was not its usual quality, and they stayed true, "You don't know Thai food." I finally just requested the restaurant send a new dish that is correct (noodle dish they sent had no sauce or egg; it was just noodles, grease, and vegetables) and they said it was Grub Hub's problem. The restaurant is NOT WILLING TO TAKE OWNERSHIP OF THEIR FLAWS OR IMPROVE THEIR SERVICE... go somewhere you don't get told you are wrong when the kitchen messed up. I get take out here pretty often for the curry. huge portions and very reasonable price. Their massaman is one of the better curries in boulder, in my opinion. It's thick, rich, full of veggies & your preferred protein, and has excellent flavor. Take out portions are enough to fill you up and still have leftovers for lunch tomorrow. For $15 including tip, it's a solid deal. I've also dined in a handful of times--the waitstaff is very friendly, and service is relatively quick. I've lived in Boulder for 3 and a half years and this is the best Thai I have had here. I have not gotten a single thing on the menu that I haven't loved. Everything is full of flavor! You can get it as spicy as you like (on a scale of 1-5) and level 3 has *plenty* of kick for me! The only thing is that you will have to be prepared to wait a little while. My friends and I went to Buddha Cafe for a birthday dinner tonight, and we had a great time. I got the Panang Curry, which was almost as good as my favorite place in college, which is my all time favorite. We were all happy with our dinners, and we all had plenty of leftovers for lunch tomorrow. Our waiter was really friendly and he brought us dessert for free. I've been eating Phad Thai for many years at a variety of restaurants. i've tried this place twice and the second time was my second worst meal at a Thai restaurant. You know where the first one was? This time the food was bland, I asked for a level 3 spice and it was not there. I asked for tofu. I called back after seeing only 3 small squares of tofu, they said there should have been 7. Really?? I sat down and was promptly brought a cup of soup and water and then a few moments later a menu. Good, cause I was STARVING. I really wanted Pad Thai for lunch (was the reason I sought out a Thai restaurant) but also decided to also get a Cashew chicken. The good- My cashew chicken was just the right balance of soy and sweet chili sauce. Almost the best Thai Cashew Chicken I have had. The hot and sour soup was also good. As I always feel like I have to do when I give good places three stars, here's my disclaimer: Three stars is NOT a bad thing, folks. This place is good. Not great, but really good. I was craving pad thai after a long day of climbing, so I came here by suggestion of my buddy who lives nearby and loves their drunken noodles. The service is a little slow, but who's in a rush? This spot isn't the best if you're tight on time, but if you have the leisure of enjoying the company of whoever you're with, it's not too painful to wait for your food. I saw a lot of people coming in to pick up take-out orders, so that might be a good option if you don't feel like sitting around for a bit. The pad thai here is definitely different from what I'm used to. Instead of a more creamy peanut base, this dish is heavy on the tomato. It was unusual from what I'm used to, but still totally delicious. Just ate here for the first and last time. I got the Massaman curry. It had a really weird taste. I couldn't put my finger on it, but there was something tart, like lemon. My mother had Buddha noodles with vegetables. I came with a peanut sauce that looked exactly like someone vomited all over it. She ate maybe 1/4 and gave up. My father had sweet and sour pork. Mmmmmmmmmm Panang Curry We have been big fans of this place for quite some time and go here very frequently. Both for lunch and dinner. I find their panang to be the best in town and the price is great. It is not fancy It is not pricey It is just good food at a great price and is always served with a smile. I have had items from all over the menu, but seem to gravitate back to the Panang Curry and the Chicken skewers. Panang isn't on the lunch menu, but it is available if you ask for it. Delicious, amazing, reasonably priced food. If you like wontons, do yourself a favor and try their crispy parcels. Their Buddha chow mein is addictive (even though it's closer to low mein), their curry is yum and their drunken noodles are divine. Unfortunately - their service leaves something to be desired. Don't try to eat inside, it regularly takes more than an hour for food to get to your table. What's worse is they don't stop very often to refill your drinks while you wait. I also still get a little sour about how they once got our takeout wrong, and then argued with me on the phone. They ended up charging me to remedy the order they got royally incorrect, after I had to drive back to the restaurant from our house and pick it up a second time. NOT AUTHENTIC Thai food! The restaurant is Nepalese. The food does not taste remotely close to Thai food. I am usually not the type to give bad reviews but this is bad enough to compel me to write a review. We ordered drunken noodles, pad woon seen and green beans dishes. The drunken noodles taste like it was made with Siracha and ketchup and all red. The other noodle dish was burnt and the green beans dishes made with frozen beans. When we asked the server - he said that their food is definitely not authentic Thai. The service was very slow (we waited almost 1.5 hours to get our food) even though it's a Sunday night. There were a lot of take out so maybe that's where the bulk of their business is. They did take off our appetizer due to the long wait. Well, the search for passable Thai in the Boulder area continues. Four of us had dinner here Sunday night. It's a cute little space that's dominated by the kitchen, where a lot of hustle and bustle goes on. Our waiter was lax in getting us water when we first sat down. Granted, they were pretty busy with to-go orders and such, but still, it seemed an inordinately long wait. No spring rolls, as they were all gobbled up by previous patrons of the day. Seriously, though, when you're running an Asian restaurant - who runs out of spring rolls? We had the combo app platter - tasty fried goodness with four dipping choices. Beef drunken noodles were okay - the meat was a bit chunky/chewy (if it's gonna be chewy, I'd rather it were thin). Cashew shrimp - lots of veggies...sauce was aight. Green curry chicken - a little alarming that the sauce itself was a bit *too* green...almost fluorescent. But still yum. And the chicken tom kha - whoa. Hold it right there, buck-oh. I've had my share of this coconut soup all over the nation, and this one was just about the worst I can ever recall. It's like they dumped a bunch of sugar in it to disguise something. You could barely perceive the coconut flavor. Yech. Where oh where to find decent Thai cuisine around these parts? Actually, wait - Chez Thuy has been good. Nothing exceptional about the service or location, which is fine by me. What really matters is the food. I had green curry with chicken. Flavor was a little off and chicken was pretty dry. But the color of the dish was bright green, not the normal slightly-green-cream color. I can only assume they're using food coloring and that really bothers me. Any cook that's willing to add unnecessary ingredients just to make a dish more appealing to diners that don't know better is probably making other compromises. East Asian cuisine in Boulder continues to be gross. Why are the only good East Asian restaurants on the coasts?! I gave them 4 stars because 5 stars is perfect and nobody is perfect....however Buddah Cafe comes real close. Small place with about 15 tables tucked in the strip mall at Iris and 28th. The service is fantastic and the food is even better. I went there with my wife and 3 children, 17, 7, and 3. Everyone found something they liked. I had the panang curry, medium, great flavor nice heat. My son at the last noodle dish on the menu HOT and he thought he was going to explode, so good yet so so hot. My girls had a mixture of the appetizer sampler (the best deal on the menu by the way) and the pad se yew. My wife had this basil shrimp dish that we to die for, no skimping on the shrimp or the basil. They also make their version of the cream cheese won-ton which was AMAZING. We'll be back just hope my review doesn't make the place get that crowded. read more
