First time at this restaurant and the menu is really extensive. Brought the kids and was definitely not disappointed! Husband had the breakfast burger and was so impressed! Very rare for him as he is a burger connoisseur! I had the taco salad and kiddo had a pizza and the other a Buddies Burger! Food was fantastic and the service was outstanding! Definitely recommend! The food is so good here - for bar food - I can almost forgive the ridiculously poor service. Almost. Still, the bar has an inviting atmosphere, staff and patrons alike are a diverse and interesting group of people, and truthfully there aren't many other bar options in Okemos, Michigan. 3 stars seems fair. read more

Buddies gets four stars for one main reason: Nachos. Some of the best ever. Being honest, they sometimes are off, not sure if a new cook was on the premises, but worth the gamble. The new updates have helped a lot. Looking forward to the no smoking law passing, because smoking is popular here. read more

a pub in a stripmall? yeah, the concept confuses me too. especially since there is not too much left in this particular strip (which also means there is plenty of free parking for you, haha). not expecting much, we walked into Buddy's (near corner of Grand River & Marsh). they had part grill on one side and pub on the other, seperated by a wall. the bar is in the back, which is a little weird. it also seems like they've got half the bar (and its supplies) in a closet. WTF?! it seems like their target market is to be a neighborhood place to stop for a quick drink on your way home, and nothing much else. they actually had a good selection of food on their menu. we had salads to go, but had to wait at the bar while they were made. average place, average rating, 3 stars it is. read more

There's nothing really exceptional about this place, except they have good nachos served just right in enormous quantities. As best I can recall, that's all I've ever actually eaten here. So I can't speak to anything else, but this at least kept it in the rotation when I lived in Michigan. And even earned it a return trip if I'm passing through. read more

Stick with fatty bar food here. This place went back off my list after being put back on due to a really good blackened salmon salad. Off again because today's: 1) salmon wasn't blackened 2) it was well done when I ordered med rare to rare 3) much of the greens had spots that looked wet? Pretty good selection of craft brews and decent bar food. Service was awful, we were there for a Lions playoff game but the place wasn't too full and she didn't seem too busy, just uninterested in helping us have a good experience. Craft beers were supposedly $1 off but after my first beer she didn't ask whether I wanted a pint or a mug (22 oz), just brought the mug every time. She also offered no guidance on pricing, so I ordered one of my favorite beers not knowing I would be charged $8 for it. I usually drink craft beers so it wasn't that big of a deal just surprising that she would allow me to order a beer that was $3 more than everything else on the menu without telling me that. I might go back but definitely prefer other places in the area and definitely don't order craft beers that you can get for half the price across the street (Old Chicago). read more

Sorry to say that last night I had a very bad meal at Buddies. I ordered the chicken breast dinner with mashed potatoes and grilled vegetable. The potatoes were stone cold. Evident they had just been taken out of the refrigerator and plopped on the plate with no attempt at warming and the grilled vegetables were swimming in grease. I left most of the dinner on the plate. What a disappointment! To be fair, the manager did take 50% off the meal but that did not quite make up for the lack of quality in the food. read more

Sports bar with a restaurant side. Lots of monitors for watching the game. Burgers, pizza, nachos, etc. Service leaves a lot to be desired.

I live pretty close to Buddy's and go fairly often. The food is always good, the staff friendly and the bill is never a shocker. The decor is nothing to write home about but if you're looking for a good, filling meal that won't break your bank this is the place to go. read more

I used to love going to Buddies, but, lately, I've noticed a trend. I went there on June 1st (a Saturday) and it was practically a ghost town. This isn't the first time I've gone there and thought the same thing. The other two locations aren't nearly as empty as the Okemos location. Then, I discovered the reason why. You need to reevaluate your regulars and the effect they have on other people. There were a few people at the bar and one of the hightops that were OVER-THE-TOP annoying. One of these men tried to trip a server. When she told me that he does that all the time and was a regular, I couldn't believe it. They were loud and obnoxious the entire time I was there. They monopolized the jukebox and, when I had the audacity to put some money in and pick out a few songs I like, they started loudly complaining and would have unplugged the machine if they hadn't already put in money themselves for another song. The staff seemed to go along with them and had a good laugh. I love the food and the prices are reasonable. However, I won't be going back to that location again. I wanted to relax and enjoy a beer, not listen to a bunch of drunk idiots criticizing my choice of music and trying to trip our waitress. I think it's time to clean house, Buddies. read more

Tried to come to Buddies on a Monday night to watch football and get chicken wings as I heard they were good and on special that night. It was a group of 5 that I went with and we got seated near the bar. We waited 30 minutes and nobody came to greet us. I watched every server in the restaurant walk right past us. The wait staff was too busy talking with a bunch of creepy old men at the bar. We were about to have some beer, wings and play pool and they lost out on a lot of money from us. Extremely rude people. We ended up getting up and walking out. We told the staff what had happened and got no apology whatsoever. I'll never take my business there again and I will tell anybody who asks that I had an awful experience there. Don't waste your time at this place its garbage. read more

I enjoy going to Buddies, except when they have trivia night! They reserve tables for people so no one else can eat in the bar. Bad move Buddies , you had all of those empty tables and we were not allowed to sit down. The waitress was so rude we left and went somewhere else. read more

Too many sensitive customers at this bar honestly I prefer the East Lansing location. Customers that issues about topics and discussion at the bar should sit in the restaurant side not the bar side. Also every bartender that served me a drinks complained about other staff members really the professional. read more

We had 3 in our group on Sun. 7/21/13 around 6:30pm. They weren't very busy, but it took a little longer than I thought it should have to get seated. All 3 of us ordered different types of burgers, they were all prepared correctly. but dressed wrong, (had the wrong topping on them). We had to get a menu to see whom got what burger, as the waitress gave us the wrong one, as we weren't sure what came on which one. Plus the burgers didn't come will all the toppings. The waitress was very lax in her service also. Which reflected in her tip, which she probably will just pass off to us being cheap customers. We should have driven a few more miles to East Lansing to another place as we were debating where to go that night, but decided to stop there, as it had been a while, and we had gotten good food and service there before. Visited recently and noticed a big change. It seems so dingy and not really clean. It certainly needs updating and a little more light. My first burger was overdone, so I sent it back. The next one was almost raw which included undercooked bacon & the bun was soggy. A piece of lettuce under the burger would help this. We have gone to Buddies for years and liked it. What happened tonight will keep me from ever eating there again. My step daughter ordered a Buffalo burger and sweet potato fries, The fries were cold. She took a bite of the burger and it was almost raw (was supposed to be medium/well). She sent it back. Soon, the waitress brought a burger and fries. The fries had been recooked (they were almost black). My step daughter opened the bun to see if the burger was cooked. It was grilled to medium/well and still had the bite out of it. They had scraped off the cheese and put it back on the grill, probably with other people's food. When I complained to the owner/manager he said "well, the grill is hot". I pointed out that the spatula to flip the burgers isn't that hot and that it was very unsanitary. He said he was going to be in the kitchen and would mention it to the cook. My step daughter said she had never heard of a restaurant doing that. He said "well, there's a first time for everything" and asked if she wanted something else. She said absolutely not. He said that he would take it off of our bill and walked away. Judging from his attitude and seeming lack of surprise, I believe this is a common practice there. Makes me wonder what happens to the partially eaten burgers that people leave. Chili maybe? Recycling is great, but not for food. read more
