It was a HUGE undertaking and inherently inconvenient for a lot of homeowners as they had to come into our backyards cut up cement or asphalt (depending what we had) to connect the line to our homes. Having to have your sewage pipe replaced is probably one of the least sexy home repairs that you can do. Would you rather have your kitchen remodeled, your bathroom remodeled, or your sewage pipe replaced? These days in Santa Cruz County, in order to do a remodel on your home or to sell your home, you have to pass a sewer inspection. If you fail, you have to have it remedied before you can proceed. A worse situation however, is having a sewage pipe break, which then becomes an emergency. We have had the misfortune of having to have our sewage pipes replaced at our last house in order to sell it and at our new house in order to do a remodel on it. The older the house, probably the less likely it is to pass inspection. If you need to have your sewage pipe replaced, I can definitely recommend Buddy Griggs. He's prompt at returning phone calls and getting on the job quickly. He's great at doing the inspections with really high-tech equipment, diagnosing problems and problem-solving, and getting the job done right. I needed a trenchless sewer replacement. I went to several plumbing companies for estimates and I was shocked at how expensive it was. Buddy Griggs. Master Plumber. I am so glad I picked Buddy Griggs. I have an older house built in 1938, and a younger ADU. At some point this last summer the sewer line to the old house had some problems. I had it snaked, but the problem happened again in March. This time I called Buddy Griggs and left a message. He called me back within an hour and offered to come out and give me an estimate. He showed up on time, polite and professional. He spent an hour and a half giving me my free estimate. He used a camera and scoped both sewer lines. He let me watch on his laptop, and then he gave me a very thorough bid. I asked for the price and bid to be in writing before I decided. That evening he emailed me a very detailed bid with a 10-year warranty on all the plumbing work described in the bid. The price difference between Buddy's bid and other bids was scary. Buddy's price was half of what others wanted. The next day Buddy showed up on time with a crew of two. Buddy's team is fast and tidy. I might add that his crew of two are exceptionally polite and respectful and clearly knew what they were doing. After two full days of work both sewer lines were replaced and repaired as needed. I was initially worried about the noise and chaos of having sewer lines replaced, concrete cut, mud and everything else. I don't know where Buddy got his crew, but they were quiet and delivered superior customer service. Each time I came out to watch or ask questions I was treated with white-glove customer service. And at the end of each day there was no mess. My point is, if you have an older house, or you simply want fast, clean, noiseless work done, Buddy and his team are who you want to call. Hot damn. Buddy Griggs is an old school, proper, real all-american professional. Our water heater finally gave up the ghost this last Halloween, and it was under warranty still, but it was a Home Depot Crap Special. I called six plumbers in the Santa Cruz area to get quotes for: "Go deal with Home Depot warranty for me then install. Just install it if I have it on site. Install a tank unit of yours. Install a tankless.". I asked for a lot of information, and a lot of options, and had a lot of questions. Buddy beat all 5 of the others to our place to do an estimate. Massive points for that. Buddy's employee Nick answered every question in detail, honestly, and directly, and provided an extremely comprehensive, excellent quote. All of his estimates were lower than, or competitive with the other players, and they charge less for the same tank unit than any other local competitor. His employee Nick was very respectful and not a hard seller. It was a breath of fresh air. It was great and easy to work with them, and they held a slot for us, even though we were getting other estimates and told them it'd be at least 48 hours before we made our decision. best of all: They showed up on time, and did the job, neatly, cleanly, and perfectly well. Communications were 100% easy, and there was no "shyness' about actually returning calls. There was no ambiguity about what parts and things would be used, and that kind of transparency is priceless to me. Best of all? The estimated price was the price we paid. There was no tomfoolery about extra charges or anything else like that. I have a low-flow toilet which not been flushing well. These guys showed up early, formed a hypothesis about calcium deposits in the drain, and augered the toilet - problem fixed. They also explained how the problem happened (hard water) and made a suggestion about how to avoid it in the future (occasional soak with white vinegar). Nice work! I'd actually give him 4.5 stars but i figured if I gave him the full 5 stars this review would get overlooked by all the other 5 star reviews. My roommate called this morning for a plumber to come out to our place to see our clogged toilet. I never spoke to the person on the phone, but I was there to answer the door, speak with the plumber (who I'm assuming was Buddy), and pay the man for his services. I must say it was probably the EASIEST AND QUICKEST $95 ANY PLUMBER COULD HAVE MADE. Honestly from the beginning it was an easy job. It was a simple clogged toilet (from a night of wasted college kids fighting over one bathroom with the toilet get nonstop attention from both ends...bleghh) that couldn't be fixed by our shitty plunger and all of us being girls, we didn't want to get down and dirty... So we called a plumber. We figured it shouldn't take more than 30 minutes with professional help, and we were sick of seeing a gross toilet with water leaking over the bowl. Timeliness: Prompt and on time. I was surprised they could get someone out to us so quickly. Roommate called around 8-8:30 this morning and he was at out place by 10am within the window of time he estimated. Estimate/Price: Here is where I was a little iffy. After evaluating the situation, Buddy said the toilet would require "augering" which he charged at $95 to do it. It seemed like a steep price for such an easy task to fix. I asked if that was the only way to fix it, and he flat out said "yes". Well that didn't leave me with very many options, so we agreed to have him fix it. When he brought in the piece of equipment, it was essentially a bigger version of a snake which he used to dislodge a large wad of paper towels from the plumbing. Service: Fast and easy. We knew it was an easy fix, and he was in and out in 20 minutes. The actual 'plumbing' took no more than 10 minutes. He did a brisk wipe down the toilet area with two towels I provided to him, but I wish he could have spent a little more time doing that. I understand he's not a maid and it's not his job to clean, but if I'm being charged $95 for 10 minutes of actual service, I was expecting he could have at least been a little more attentive to wiping down the seat so I didn't see chunks remaining. I also felt that since he was dealing with a couple of college kids and not a family/older adult, he didn't take much time to address the niceties..which is fine, but it makes me feel like we could have easily been taken advantage of (I'm in NO way implying that's what Buddy did, nor do I question his integrity) Overall: Friendly. Prompt. Efficient. He came in within hours of calling and was out in less than half an hour. Would I use him again? Maybe. But I would definitely call other plumbers to get an estimate to see how much it would take to auger a toilet for less than 15 minutes of actual service being done. read more
