I have never purchased used tires, considering that I felt they would either be a rip-off and not last very long (which would eventually mean wasting more money in the end), or they would be poor quality tires that no one wanted. Imagine my surprise when I found all-weather sport racing tires, with barely any kind of wear, for a heck of a deal.
My rear tires were completely shot. There was no tread left anymore, and I knew I was gambling with my life driving on the interstate from Miami to Orlando, and with rainy conditions, but I thought I would worry about it later. I felt my car hydroplane at one point while driving, and when my bud was in my car, he noticed that the rear of my car would not turn properly (as if the rear were skidding).
I sheepishly mentioned Tire Kingdom's comments about my tires being worn out and the danger I was facing in driving over 200 miles at high speeds on I-95 with those tires. He got out, called me over, and showed me that my rear tires were completely smooth. After scolding me for that, he said I needed to get this taken care of now or the drive back would be quite dangerous, as storms were in the forecast. He said I could easily spin out of control and kill myself and told me we should try this new tire place that opened up.
I told him I wasn't sure I trusted used tires, even though he buys them all the time, but he said to trust him when he said these were in-like new condition. The total was going to be about $80, so $40 a piece, and that is including installation. I looked at them myself, and noticed they were extra wide, and that is because they are racing tires. I also noticed they looked to be in excellent condition, brand-new practically. We decided to research the tire model (Goodyear Eagle Sport), and it seems that brand new, they retail for about $150 each. Considering these were almost like new and were over 50% cheaper, it seems like quite a bargain. They were a bit busy so we headed to the thrift store next door to browse while they finished the job.
Within 15 minutes, we were done, despite the fact we came when they were about 30 minutes away from closing time. Since the tires were so cheap and they should last me for a few years, even if I get a couple of years of use out of them, I will be happy and it will have been worth it, versus spending $300+ on two brand new tires at the dealership. I'm actually glad I found this place, as I am sure tires like this in Miami would cost a heck of a lot more just because the shop is located in Miami and they can get away with it. read more
